[Q] Major problem HTC HDH. Need immediate help. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried to install this --> RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.1_Radio_12.21.60.12_26.02.00.09_M_test_148662. I thought it was some kind of downgrade, because i couldn't downgrade with Ace Hack Kit. In the midlle of installation, about 22%, when my HDH rebooted, said error, now my phone won't even boot antything, only when I put it to charge it shows orang led indicator, and after some time it shows black screen with silver HTC screen.. :/ Desperate, any kind of help, suggestion please..

Connect it through the ace hack kit, and start from scratch.
did it automatically download the downgrade ruu? Or is that one you downloaded yourself? Did you disconnect it thinking it had finished or something?

Thanks for answering..
When I've got my phone, it was stock 2.3.5, i've unlocked bootloaders, downloaded ace hack kit, rooted, instaled cwm, s-off, installed couple of custom roms. Then, i've locked my phone via fastboot oem lock. Today, I wanted to unlock it again, to instal sabsa prime, but when i reach fastboot oem get_identifier_token it points to some kind of bootloader err error command. When i started the ace kit it demanded the downgrade, but, when the downgrade is downloaded, pushed to phone, phone restart to hboot, but wont flush it. So, i wanted to downgrade on my own. I've downloaded as i said ruu, started flashing, and thats pretty much it.. It showed error, i havent disconnected it on my own.
I can only connect phone by pressing volume up and power, i have a blinking orange led indicator and it reports as qualcomm cdma technologies msm to my computer..

i thought that aahk can only be used for the stock rom.. if you already have s-off and have cwm, just flash the new rom in recovery..

You couldn't have run AAHK on an unlocked bootloader. Exactly what have you done to your phone up to this point in time? What does your bootloader say now?

i cant enter to hboot, i cant start phone, only when i push volume up + power i have orange led blinking, and when i attach phone to pc, pc recognize it as a qualcomm cdma technologies..
from stock rom, unlocked bootloader via htcdev, used ace AAHK, instaled few custom roms, then relocked bootloader via fastboot (fastboot oem lock), then flashed ruu RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed. After that i wanted to unlock bootloader again, in fastboot got the (bootloader) [ERR] command error !!!, when runed AAHK, AAHK needed a downgrade, downgrade was downloaded, pushed to phone, but when phone restarted to hboot, downgrade coulndt be flashed, it shows PD98IMG-GB2 as a wrong image or something. Then I downloaded RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.1_Radio_12.21.60.12_26.02.00.09_M_test_148662, started flash, my phone rebooted, and instead rebooting to ruu (black screen), phone just shuted down, ruu on pc showed error, that is it. I've tried to power on phone on different ways, but nothing, just once after i plugged it to pc, showd me black screen with silver letters, now won't even show that. Only with volume up + power, with orange led blinking, and somethimes, after some time attached to pc, phone connects, but how i figured out from computer managment, like a mass storage. Hope you understanded what i said.. :/
Thanks for answering bro..

HTC DESIRE unroot with RUU 2.3.3 failed

Hi guys.
I know there are several posts already opened about this, but I`ve tried all I read there and nothing worked.
I wanted to send my rooted Desire back for repairs(camera LED broken thanks to a Torch app), and wanted to unroot it before I do.
I`ve read on some posts that u can unroot the phone by running the official Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU found on htcdev.com (the official RUU), so I downloaded the RUU, installed hTC Sync, installed the Desire`s USB drivers(the same one`s that are required when rooting with Revolutionary).
The RUU started installing, the phone rebooted into the HTC splash screen and the "update" of the RUU started going, both PC and phone showed the cursor of the installing process, and at about 90% the PC gave me an error (update error).
I`ve tried again and again to run the RUU but everytime, it failed. And now, my Desire just won`t boot. I`ve taken the battery out, put it back, turned it on, and the only thing that appers on the screen is the white HTC logo on a black background, with 4 icons in each corner of the screen(looks just like the icon that appears when u plug in the usb cable with USB debugging mode ON).
Volume-down+Power and BACK+Power don`t work anymore, even though I press them, the phone just simply ignores the keys and takes me back to the before mentioned hTC splash screen.
I know this is probably something I did wrong, but if there`s any one kind enough to help me out with this, I`d deeply appreciate it.
Thank you!

It doesn`t say anything.
This is what I do:
1. Take the battery out.
2. Put the battery back in place
3. Try turning phone on using: Volume-down+Power -> the phone doesn`t show anything, it simply takes me to the HTC logo(white HTC logo on black background. It does the same thing if I turn it on using BACK+Power)
If I try running the RUU again, the installer gives me the next message: Error[152]: image update error.
From what I`ve read, this is a radio error which can only be fixed by hTC. Could that be true?
Also, after the RUU gives me the above error, if I unplug the USB cable, the phone shows following:
*************
RUU
Radio_V2 - OK
Splash1 - OK
Recovery - OK
Splash2 - OK
Radio_cust - OK
Bootloader - Bypassed
Userdata - OK
System - Fail-PU
Boot - OK

oh you're still S-OFF?
You're automatically in fastboot when you turn on since your phone is like that so just turn it on, plug it in first flash this and then flash this, Then run the RUU again.
Yes, I`m still S-OFF.
How do I flash them if I can`t access recovery using Volume-down+Power or BACK+Power?
I`ve downloaded the first one, renamed it into PB99IMG.zip, put it on root of SD CARD, turned phone ON and it takes me to the same htc logo screen as before.
LE
Tried with Android Flasher, but it gets stuck when trying to flash the bravo_alphaspl.img that u`ve given me.
So basically, I can`t enter Clockworkmod, I can`t enter the bootloader menu by turning on phone usine Volume-down+Power / Back+Power, and the phone is stuck in the HTC logo, while still S-OFF-ed, also the 2.3.3 official RUU gives me the error at the end of the installing process.
Does anyone have any idea what I could do?

I tried to use an RUU to install 2.3, I have alpharev cm7r2 installed and I get stack on the same step as i_cs_u. I successfully flashed bravo_alphaspl.img with "fastboot boot bravo_alphaspl.img", but which partition do I flash bravo_downgrade.img to?
Flash bravo_downgrade.img and then the RUU.

He probably figured out that he has to use the fastboot flash boot *name of img* command or Android Flasher on that screen with the 4 ! At the corner instead of renaming to PB99IMG and attempting to flash it on the phone.

[Q] Damaged bootloader

Hello all,
A friend has bought a DHD online and it came from Asia (CID 44)
He tried to downgrade using a guide found here but he forgot to read the small print that syas that you must not use this guide if you were in 3.xxx
SO now the phone appears to have its bootloader damaged, and I'm trying to bring it back from zombieland
When I press start nothing happens, after 5 minutes (yes 5 minutes) the phone lights, white HTC screen, no text, after 2 minutes it starts vibrating for 5 minutes and then the vibration stops and I am left with the white screen, greeen HTC, NO "quietly brillant" and nothing happens, I've left it like that all night but it does not go further.
What can i do to solve this ?
Thanks a lot
The Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK) will be able to restore the correct bootloader (fingers crossed). Look up it's thread in the DHD development section.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Well i've benn asking questions in this thread but i got told that it was not an aahk problem (which is right) and that i had to solve my bootloader issue first....so here i am
Thanks
Update :
If i remove the battery, then power and hold vol down (for about 12 minutes....) I get to the bootloader screen...BUT it is inactive and locked on fastboot
I have now
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
Oct 11 2010,12:47:02
HBOOT
and then the usual vol up, vol down and the choices
fastboot (on which I am stuck, vol up, vol down and power have no effect)
recovery
factory reset
simlock
image crc
I've tried to use adb shell to see if I could get the control over it but I get a "device not found".
What can I try now ?
Thanks
What I meant was that AAHK has an option to flash the correct bootloader. The bootloader you're running is an old one. If the device was shipped with Froyo then you should have the 0.85.2007 bootloader. If was shipped with Gingerbread then it should be 2.xx.xxxx bootloader. Try installing the correct bootloader using AAHK (there's an option for installing ENG S-off bootloaders for both Froyo shipped devices and GB shipped ones.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
The trouble is that AAHK cannot access the phone since it is blocked BEFORE sense and so on, so when i run AAHK version from 12/06 I get told that phone is not plugged, or driver is not installed or USB debugging is not enabled, and of course they are all running.
So i need to unblock the phone in "manual" mode and then I'll be able to run AAHK or make a goldcard or whatever....
Thanks for the help

I can boot into fastboot menu but then it is locked. See the first post, it's like the phone is super super super slow, and when i get to the fastboot menu it does not respond at all, or maybe it would respond in a super slow way.
Assuming I have control over it what am i supposed to do when i get to fastboot menu ?
Flashing the RUU seems a good idea, but which one and where do i get it ?
Thanks a lot
You said the phone came from Asia right? Then this is the latest RUU for Asia WWE (World Wide Edition) - RUU Ace Asia WWE 3.13.707.4
It's from http://www.shipped-roms.com which has collections of RUUs for many HTC devices.
noob question - can OP flash the 1.32.405 RUU directly instead of 3.13.707?

That's essentially what caused the problem. 1.32 is froyo based. Devices shipped with gb should not install a froyo boot(eng soff) or downgrade to a froyo based ruu/pd98img. The op best bet at this moment is to flash a pd98img that's meant for his phone. I don't think the ruu will recognize the device in its current state. Will say though that it will take forever to flash bit eventually will.(I believe its 30+ min)
What I would try is put phone in boot then run
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip xxxxx.zip (xxxxx being the name of your pd98/rom.zip

Thanks a lot, I'm getting the RUU right now and I'll try tonight.
So I Boot with volume down, get to the main menu (after the 12 mins HTC logo time and the 5 mins vibration time) and then try to access the phone by adb shell and fastboot erase cache and so on ?
Sorry for the stupid questions but it's the first time (and hopefully the last) that I do this.
Thanks.
Correct. To take out the rom.zip from the ruu. Simply run the ruu first two steps, then go into your temp folder and look for it. The place it in your fast boot folder.
You can try just running the ruu while in hboot. Usually this works but with a damaged boot loader i believe its gets stuck at waiting for bootloader
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
ok, thanks, I'm in the "power+vol down" boot mode, the entry is on "fastboot" (it is higlighted in color) but nothing happens when I press power (or vol up or vol down)....
What can I try ?
Thanks
. Its going to be a long process. But from that screen plug in your phone and try the fast boot commands
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
So here's the update
I renamed the rom.zip which i extracted from the RUU to PD98IMG.zip and put iut at the root of the SD card...
I rebooted the phone (long time), got in the fastboot screen, nothing happened, tried to use the dos commands (fastboot erase cache), got the "waiting for device" message in the dos windows....
I got fed up and went for diner leaving the phone as it was, I just came back and now I have the green message "checking [PD98IMG.zip] and so it looks like it might be a good sign, I'll leave it plugged on tonight and see what happens....
More to come in 8 hours
Thanks for the help
Ok, got it running
So here's the procedure in case someone else has the same problem.
1) Find the RUU you need to go back to what you had before, in my case it was the 3.17 asia
2) Get the rom.zip from this file : start install and when it tells you that it is not possible go to your my documents/user/local files/temp folder, sort the folders by DATE so that you have the latest used on top and open it, in this folder there will be the rom.zip file
3) Rename this rom.zip file to PD98IMG.zip, send it to the root of the SD (best way is to get the SD out of the phone and do it from the computer)
4) Launch the phone in recovery (power and then hold VOL DOWN) the phone will ALWAYS try to check PD98IMG.zip and if it checks it will ask you if you want to install it, just say yes (for me it took all night)
5) when you're back to your latest rom, you can use the aahk, for me I had to run it 2 times but in the end it it S-OFF and then install whatever rom you want.
Thanks to everybody who has helped me on this
my last rom build number is 1.32.405.1 , which rom i must choose ?

[Q] Desire HD Not Booting (Flashing Orange LED)

Hi Guys, hoping someone can help me:
I have a Desire HD that has been rooted with S-OFF, after flashing a new ROM, the device wouldn't boot, when trying to start the device up, it will vibrate 3 times and flash the LED. If I try boot into recovery, it vibrates 5 times with a flashing green LED.
At the moment all I have is ADB access (no fastboot) and can't boot into the bootloader screen.
Through ADB I was able to reflash the recovery using the flash_image tool and I can boot into recovery by connecting the USB cable, I have flashed a few different ROMS through recovery, but the device will still not boot after this, I'm thinking the issue might be the radio image, which I have not been able to flash through flash_image (get -1 error code when trying this).
Any suggestions on how to proceed or what to try would be much appreciated, I'm also not fully clued up on what all can be done through ADB, so any suggestions on that front would also be appreciated.

Thanks for your response.
I have tried running RUU from the PC, which I got from here:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
The utility gives an error saying it cannot connect to the device, does the update utility not require me to boot into the bootloader to work?
I also tried downloading a few of the RUU zips there, but so far I haven't been able to flash them, just get an error "Can't to open <Filename>.zip (bad)", however I have checked that the zips are not corrupt, and I am able to flash other custom roms, not sure why it fails on these.
I also tried a bit with AAHK, but couldn't get it to flash anything, I put the custom rom in the folder as per the instructions, but it failed... perhaps I'm doing it wrong? maybe a bit of a walk through on how I would just flash the ROM through AAHK would help.
When you rooted phone did it say if its s-off in hboot. Try entering hboot. Power phone off then power up phone holding power button and volume down button at same time. If you can enter hboot and it says s-off get the rooted stock pd98img zip which also includes radio. Place on root of sd (no folder) power back up into hboot and let it do its thing. Volume up for yes when asked to install power button when asked to reboot.

Yip, my phone was rooted with S-OFF a good while ago, only got the issue recently after flashing a new rom. I can't get into HBOOT, when I try, it vibrates 5 times and flashes the green LED with a blank screen.
Sounds like your bootloader is messed up and not the radio. Search how to push the bootloader img.
Edit: sorry I'm on way to work or I would help you search. But I know there is a thread how to fix bootloader since you cant enter hboot which sounds like its your problem. You need to fix the bootloader. Do a google see what comes up from xda.

I would say that its a fried emmc chip, if that isn't the case (I doubt) you can use a JTAG and a riff box to recover the phone over OPST, the equipment needed can be quite costly, so taking it to a mobile repair shop that does jtagging, should work

Check if it's S-ON or S-OFF by rebooting while holding power and volume-down. What does it say?

Is it rooted? If so, AAHK or HTCDEV? Is it S-OFF? Is there a custom ROM on it? Have you updated your HTC drivers using AAHK specifically? What did you do to get it in that state?

So, what is the problem? flash a recovery if you don't have it and reflash a rom. Don't use the Hack Kit is not for you if you are already S-OFF.

Unable to get into bootloader or recovery mode, stuck at white HTC logo screen

Hey everyone,
I have read the various topics with a similar title but none helped.
Here is my problem, I bought a used HTC Desire on eBay. It booted just fine on the first start, then I did a factory reset (from within the Android system menu).
Since then, I'm stuck at the white screen with the green HTC logo. I have tried to get into bootloader mode by removing the battery, holding vol down and power, but it just goes straight to the white screen again.
Also connected the phone to the pc, but adb isn't picking up anything...
Any ideas?
Try Power+Back button.
just got one step further:
I can get into fastboot mode with BACK + POWER. But volume keys doesn't work, is that a known issue that I can solve somehow?

So you bought a Desire with broken volume keys.
Are you s-off?

Then you'll have to flash a RUU to make it work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772499
It's official HTC Firmware. Your phone will boot after this.
So:
1. Install HTC Sync.
2. Download and extract the RUU.exe from the zip (It's somewhere in there)
3. Run the exe while you connect your phone in fastboot (Power+Back)
4. Wait for it to install
5. Boot

Thanks for the advice, I downloaded the 2.3 RUU and it starts the process, sais
rebooting to bootloader
erasing data
sending...
and after ~30 seconds it just shows me a screen that sais "ERROR_UNKNOWN"
On the phone I see a black screen with a silver HTC logo during the process and when I unplug the USB cable after the error it shows the hboot screen that now sais "update failed".
right before the error is shown it display "updating signature"

It only says "Error_Unknown"? No error number, anything?
Weird.
This may be the reason:
Now, that may not sound too bad to some of you, but there's more: the 2.3 RUU update is limited regionally, as well. It's not available to users in Germany, North America, South America, South Korea, or Japan.

You live in Germany, right?
Use this guide then:
Section 2, S-on

yes I am in Germany,
made some progress (or not?)
I noticed that the device was "unlocked", so I did "fastboot oem lock" and it was "relocked".
Then the RUU update went through - nearly. At the very end if failed again and now I am stuck at a black screen with the silver HTC logo and triangles in every corner.

wtf... tried again flashing the 2.3 RUU, this time it worked, YEAY
But now I have a bootloop, device starts, vibrates 1 time, waits for 3 seconds, and then vibrates 7 times. And restarts...
Ok. Tests are done.
According to the screenshot above and the 7 vibrations, you have a radio brick. It's a brick that can hardly be overcome.
The only solution is flashing the RUU and hoping that the phone will eventually boot.
That's why I don't buy second hand phones.

freecer did it, was able to flash the 2.3 RUU again successfully. But now I'm back at the bootloop, but now, it simply does vibrate once (no more 7 vibrations) and reboots after some seconds.
So what can I do now? RUU flashed successfully, I'm running out of ideas...
and again the freezer did it, put it in, normally started via POWER button, it booted right through into Android.
Well, let's see if it keeps running now or if this overheating issue also exists in normal operation mode...
Thanks so much for you help so far, the freezer hint saved this device and hopefully will make my gf very happy tomorrow
Hold on I thought it was some pvt1 devices that had overheating issues.
Thought it was fixed on your newer ones. Then again I've never had a problem with my pvt1 desire flashed both hboot and find countless times.

it is a PCT3 device.
but the overheating-reboot issue is rendering it useless. I can use it just fine outside (-2° currently) but as soon as I'm inside, boot-loop...
Anything I can do from a hardware perspective to fix that? Sending it in for repair/replacement is not an option, it's simply not worth the cost.
do you think installing a custom rom of any kind might help?

It's a motherboard fault. If you don't send it to repair, you just got yourself an "Ice-Phone", or a very complex paper holder.
i think a custom rom would help a small bit, like the rom in abaaaabbbb63 sig (mildwild redux) because its small and lite unlike a sense rom. therefor it mite not overheat as quick or as often. but thats only a guess. the only dodgy thing is trying to get ur phone s-off or rooted because if ur phone overheats in the middle of the s-off/rooting progress u could brick ur phone. plus charge ur phone using ur computer coz it uses less power and the phone does'nt heat up as much as plugging into the wall.
