CWM and external sd card - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm sure many of you have this problem. Any solutions?
To elaborate: CWM doesn't recognize any of my sd cards.

I just installed one this weekend. Samsung 16gb ultra fast 48mb/sec Micro SD/Card, I bought at Fry's. First I downloaded my ROM into via an USB adapter hooked up to my PC, then popped the card info my phone. Started it up into recovery, flashed the ROM from external SD/Card settings. Works perfectly.
I am using CWM Recovery, not TWRP. Make sure you format the SD/Card first.

Twrp 2.4 or 2.4.1 fixed some sdcard issue I remember reading.

T-Mobile GS3 CWM?

I just want to confirm with other Tmo gs3 users which cwm version they are using. Ive been using 5.5.0.4 which was made by team epic for the Sprint LTE variant, and all other US gs3's. Everything seemed to be working and it was recognizing the external sd card and writing back ups to it. Then I got the new official Tmo CWM from rom manager but it would not recognize the external sd card or write backups to it? I tried both the regular version & the touch version with no success. I ended up back to Team Epics version because it was the only way Im able to use the external storage which is a must in my opinion.Im wanting to know if other Tmo users experienced the same issues, because in the other threads, it seems to be Sprint users only that are saying the official CWM from rom manager is working & recognizing external sd storage. This is one of those times that combined forums can get a little confusing I guess...
Bump.... C'mon Tmo guys, which CWM are you using and is it able to read and write to the external SD card?

I am using 5.8.4.7 and I am not having any problems with my external sd card.
I'm using 5.8.4.5 touch version. No issues whatsoever. The other versions wouldn't read my external but this one does. Btw I used the image file posted on the clockwork website
I was so confused last night on which cwm to use. Can you please post a link to the team epic version that recognizes the external sd? Thanks a lot

That's very strange, because I flashed the same version 3 times from rom Manager & it did not recognize my external sd, and the same with the touch version? I'm pretty confused here why it would work on one Tmo phone but not the other & I've found posts in other threads now that confirmed other Tmo users that experienced the same issue I did?

Works flawlessly

64GB Micro SD Card, EXFAT, and TWRP Recovery

BestBuy has the class 10 SanDisk 64GB micro sd card for 43 bucks.

I took the plunge. I've been reading a lot of posts that claim it doesn't work on the Note 2, but an equal amount that say it does. I know you can either format it in fat32 or exfat. Exfat allows you to store files larger than 4GB, such as HD movies. Is there any other advantage to using exfat than the 4GB file size option? Also, I'm pretty sure exfat won't work with TWRP recovery, right? I'd be stuck with stock recovery if I opted for exfat formatting, right?
TWRP is a recovery not a kernel. If you're running stock kernel exfat should work.
According to my reading...

It will not find the your SD card if you try to do a backup and restore if you formatted the card using exfat. I wonder what would happen if I went ahead and installed TWRP, but when I did my back up I inserted a smaller, back-up card that formatted with fat32. I could reinsert the fat32 card only if I needed to restore the backup...

I have no idea. All I know is on my ATT Inspire the nandroid backups were always stored on my SD card using CWM.
For CWM, if you want to back up to extSdCard, you have to select "backup to external card" or something like that.
for TWRP, the latest version supports exFAT & when you are in backup, you can select if you want to backup to internal or external sdcard. its a radio button.

Pretty sure I saw one of the TWRP developers say today that it does not support exfat... could be wrong though.

People are saying clockwork mod rom manager does not support note 2 yet. I think you can use Odin to install it however. Maybe it's just that the app doesn't support note 2 yet. I wonder if I should just wait until the goole play clockwork mod app adds note 2 support. I suspect it won't be long.

The latest version supports exFAT because I'm using TWRP with a 64gb formatted exFAT & the dev released a version that supports exFAT in the TWRP thread.

You don't need to use ROM manager because CWM & TWRP does everything it does and if you want to update CWM then you'll have to use ODIN.
Can you post a link to the version of TWRP that supports exfat. I can't find it. Is it just the latest version, 2.3.1.3?

Just download GooManager from the Play store and select to install Open Recovery (like previous poster said). The first few releases of TWRP did not support exFat, but the dev was nice enough to add it.
I just booted into TWRP and confirmed it's there.
Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for clearing this up! The developer of TWRP should consider noting that TWRP now offers exfat support on the TWRP OP. That's a pretty big deal IMO.
My phone arrives Monday, but my 64gb card probably won't be here for a while. In the meantime I will be using a 32GB fat32 card. Any harm in just powering down the phone and switching cards when the new, larger exfat card arrives? Switching cards never seemed to be an issue on my old Inspire. I mainly just use the card to house music and movies.

[Help] [Problem]Sd card auto ejects

My sd card would automatically unmount and mount itself while using the phone, and sometimes wont detect at all. It would do this every few minutes while using or during standby. I formatted the sd many times but doesnt work.
I was using Adata brand on my phone. it started showing me problems when i used a generic cable wire from ebay. I replaced my current Adata with a patriot, its still the same problem. I posted a log cat, never used it before.
I also tried different deviant rom but doesnt make a difference.
Any advice? Thanks
Have you tried backing up your entire phone and doing a complete factory reset. If on a ROM maybe doing an Odin to stock or restori ng a stock nandroid?

Not trying to bash the ROMs whatsoever.. but I had this happen to three different SD cards. Two while using the SII and one while using the SIII, and both times were after flashing an AOSP rom (I only use AOKP and CM10). It didn't happen instantly, so it's not like I flashed the rom then my sd card started auto ejecting. But it did happen, and I tried everything. I formatted the sd card, didn't put anything back on it, tried the sd card in my wife's stock unrooted SII; nothing fixed it. I also tried putting my last sd card from my SII into the SIII straight out of the box at the store, and it auto-ejected within 5 minutes. I have no idea what causes it, but I am pretty sure it has something to do with AOSP roms.

[Q] CWM 6.0.2.5 external SD card probs?

I just updated CWM to 6.0.2.5 and its not reading my external SD card. (32gb).
example: when i try to install something from the external sd i get an error message "E: Can't mount /external_sd/
so i go back and go to "mounts and storage" and select "mount /external_sd and im getting the error message "Error mounting /external_sd!
i rebooted my phone and went into my gallery and all of my sd card contents are still there and playing...
any way to get the external sd card to work with CWM 6.0.2.5???
I had the same issue with cwm I'm sure a lot of people running cwm 6 did as well. I don't have a solution. I would switch to teamwin recovery if I were you..I'm running 3.2.2.x I've had no mounting issues or aroma sticking issues. Until theres a fix for c.w.m 6... I'm on team win. Hope this helps.

I was using CWM and tried formatting multiple times using multiple different programs with no results. I just flashed the latest TWRP via ODIN and BAM!
Success!!!!! My 64gb sdhc class 10 shows in recovery, finally.
Life after CWM
I have been a life long CWM user and lover but after today I am a TWRP fan for life (until something better comes along). I was in a panic until I found this tread! My external_sd was not mounting in CWM. I flashed TWRP from goo manager right over CWM and boom - external_sd is alive and well.

TWRP version?
What version of TWRP you got? Latest TWRP also not working for me? If you can tell me the version you are using, that will greatly help.

The app is called goo.im, it is in the play store. once installed and open hit you menu key and bring up the settings drop down, fourth option should be install OpenRecoveryScript, hit that and fallow the steps, it will overwrite CWM. That is what I did. Flash at your own risk. Good luck. I attached a screen shot of the menu.

Using CM 10.1 based ROM - ExtSdCard no longer working

Hello all.
Got my Note 2, a couple of months back. Beast of a phone.
Rooted, and installed Team Asylum CM10.1 ROM [01-29-13]. Ever since installing that ROM, the external SD card used to get unmounted when i locked the phone, and re-mounted everytime I unlocked it. I thought that was how the ROM worked, until recently when the External SD card stopped working. Neither the CWM Recovery nor the ROM recognize the card anymore.
Lost my Nandroid backup too, since it was in the external SD card. But I'm hoping that if it ever comes to it, I'll be able to install Stock ROM again through Odin.
Any suggestions, guys?
Thanks in advance.
Cm10.1 doesn't support exfat format it to fat 32 via pc.
