I'd almost say it's bad flash/download and use of wifi hotspot hack.

Can you give a little more information about your situation please? Did you update from an earlier version recently? Did you flash the full ROM over another ROM? Did you make sure to wipe the phone before flashing?
The more we know can possibly help lead to a quicker resolution.
dont really know to much about this stuff im a newbie by i follow directions to the T.. I installed to sd card rebooted in custom recovery and did a calks wipe and installed... Also i made sure it was on a gb rom before anything... 3.2.6 to be exact.. So did i do something wrong or am i missing something...? Open to any opinions... I really wanna learn how to navigate through these processes..

You don't have to be on a GB ROM to flash it, just need GB recovery or one of the format files (Calkulin or Rujelus) to flash for wipe before installing the ROM.
Did you have custom recovery installed?
Did you make sure to grab the full ROM and not just the update?
Did you download directly to your phone or to the computer? If you downloaded to phone then I'd suggest download again but to the computer and then copy to your sd card. Don't re-use the download you already tried to flash, it may have been borked in the downloading process.
(also, GB is 2.3.6, Honeycomb is 3.x)

I am experiencing the same problem. Anyone come up with a possible solution yet? Or, does anyone know how to find out where/what is making it freeze/hang?

I would make a backup with CWM and then do a full clean install and see if that helps. If it doesn't help you can always revert back to your backup.
freeze
ive experienced same issue every now and then primarily after reboot it will hang / freeze ect so i just go into adw settings and restart ADW works everytime if your on another launcher try to restart that launcher...

tried that. no improvement
Very strange, try flashing the 1.7 kernel and flashing a different modem and see If that helps

Go into recovery and clear all caches and fix permissions, and go From there.

I have experience some of the same issues on 2 different E4GT. I like the the rom but random boots force me back to stock. The most recent phone does not have the EMMC bug in it so I triedd a complete wipe, but the rom would work great for about a day then have random reboots again and sometime blank screens.
Ok I'm really irritated right about now. I am unable to flash any custom ROMS on my phone. Actually let me rephrase, I can flash them but many things do not work. I have tried Wicked, FreeGS3 and CapROM. They all have the same issues. Let me explain.
Once the ROM is booted I get odd string of numbers and TXT in the status bar, (goes away, think nothing of it)
Root not avail/accessible by root apps.
Home button does not work
Play store missing
standard Google login prompt at first boot is missing, it never asks me to login
Using CWM 5.8.4.5 Touch Recovery
TMO GS3 Rooted with Odin no trip method
I don't get it. I am i just stuck using stock ROM? If anyone can help I would love you forever.
are you clearing /cache and dalvik-cache before you reboot to the custom rom?

If you mean clearing those after the install (in recovery completes) then no. Basically after the install I just reboot. Obviously clear and reset everything before I install though.

Really? A recovery can cause these kinds of issues. Haven't heard of that before. Any other thoughts? What recovery are you using?
Try TWRP 2.2.1.1

Yeah I've heard touch recovery has its problems so I don't use it. Try using the recovery rom manager gives you.

I use TWRP and have no problems.
Do a Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions.
If that doesn't work, flash stock and reroot and try again.
I use touch recovery 5.8.4.7 and flashed it with adb. I've flashed almost everything. Cyanogenmod and every other ROM. NEVER had a problem with an instalation. Or even lost IMEI. I think people specifically aren't reading over OP's and figuring out what's safest for their devices and end up with these kind of results. Just my input.

Use mskips tool for our phones. It does everything you can image and then some. I have been using his tools since the HD2 and no issues to date.
The odd string of numbers that flashes upon boot in the status bar sounds like it's just identifying your external sd card. Totally normal.
OK so nothing worked. TWRP did the same thing. Tried diff ROM, same thing. I flashed back to 100% stock, unrooted ROM. Wiped the phone in the standard Android recovery. Then I rooted again, installed TWRP and flashed my ROM of choice and voila. Everything works. Problem solved. Thanks all for the inputs.
Here is the deal, I have flashed everything out there, and then some. Batt life is down from when I first got it and now I am running into issues when I flash certain Roms. One rom I have flashed previously, now I cant open or access messaging. Another Rom gives me boot loops, while no one else seems to have any issues. I think I now have little gremlins in my phone. ok maybe it is just bits and pieces of code remaining behind, but regardless I really want to just wipe everything and start fresh. Do I hear people yelling Odin??? I have tried that. Back in my vibrant days, we had .pit files that seemed to do that. I only have found .tar files for the S3, dont know if that even matters. Do I re-partition? Did a little research and read that might brick my my ****. when I do odin my phone it seems like it doesnt work, if i am running wicked red rom everything is still red in the status bar, is that normal after odin, it states pass.
Do you wipe everything when you flash? Maybe try that with a fresh install? I use titanium backup and restore apps and data that I need. I've also been running SD maid which helps clean up duplicate files and crap that I don't need. I'm very new to this so I am sure there will be better advice.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I usually factory reset x3, then wipe cache partition x3, then wipe davlik cache x3, and finally format system x3. I have read the x3 helps, not really sure if it is necessary or not. Seems to me that a data wipe either happens or it doesnt so should wipe on 1 try but have read multiple peeps stating that wiping 3x's helps.

Ok I odin'd to stock LH2 and it is weird. My status bar is stock, my wallpaper is what I had been using, I have titanium and SU on my app drawer but I am not rooted. Facebook pulled right up no restore or login. I also have a double boot animation, I get a brief circular samsung and then a partial tmobile boot. Seems like I still have stuff left behind??? And no I did not lose my data on internal SD. I still have songs and Roms.

Before or After you ODIN back to stock, you NEED to do a factory data wipe in recovery prior to first boot. You will lose internal SD< so back it up to your PC now and do it all over again
It seems that you didn't factory reset first somehow, ie. didn't wipe data, so all that stuff stayed.....
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Thanks guys, The factory reset was it, I forgot that was even there, and assumed when I used Odin it should have done it.
I haven't posted enough to be able to ask this question in the development section - I usually find the answers I'm looking for and never feel the need to post - but I started having a lot of problems w/ my phone today.
First off, the ROM I just flashed is the latest Wicked Sensations. Everything was fine for the last 2 days, but this afternoon, the thing started going haywire everytime I would touch the screen. It's like there were multiple screen presses within the same area that I had just touched. When that wasn't happening, it would take a few moments before it would allow any touch input and be ok for a few seconds before going haywire w/ the ghost screen touches. (I know, shotty description.)
Just wondering if it's possibly my phone, the ROM, or if anyone else experienced this. I saw no one else that had in that thread so I'm wondering where I should go from here. Reflash, new ROM, throw the phone against the wall...?
Thx!
Make backup in recovery
Then wipe EVERYTHING, system, data, internal sdcard (if you have nothing.you.need) and cache
Note reflash your rom and wait a day or two before restoring any apps/data

I will reflash, but I have a question about making a backup - if I make a backup of it as it is now, won't it save whatever may be causing it to glitch like this?
FYI - When I flashed the ROM, I wiped everything through TWRP but don't remember if the option for the internal sdcard was checked, or if there was an option. I didn't save any old apps so I didn't restore anything. Once I had what I wanted, I made a backup within the hour. Would that be a possibility next to reflashing the ROM again (restoring from this backup)?

Hmm, you could try that, add long add it was a full clean flash
And in TWRP when you choose Wipe > Advanced Wipe, it gives you a series of check boxes to choose what to write and if you choose /data, it wipes /data/media too which is the internal storage

Doing as suggested - backup, full wipe and reflashing. Will give it a couple days and see how it goes, then reply back to this thread. (As I sit here wondering if I should just check out another ROM...)

Guess I didn't read enough
Well last night it took all of about 2hrs before the touch sensitivity went haywire again, so just for the h3ll of it I tried another ROM. That time the bad effects were immediate.
I'm now on the backup I made of the stock and rooted ROM which gives me no problems. Not sure what in the updates could be causing the problem but I would hate to hear that I'm up the creek w/out a paddle.
Going to try installing the system updates after I remove root unless there's another suggestion.
Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, could have been a bad download
could have been a bad rom download. try re downloading the rom. maybe transfer it to your phone with a diferent cable. heck, maybe restart your computer first and try doing these steps again. something you might want to try also, after you flash your phone and restart it let it sit 5 minutes or so before touching it as the rom needs to finish building caches doing it's thing,
I don't think it's ROM related b/c when I went to recovery after that latest flash...Well I just happened to be using the latest TWRP and since it's touch operated, well it was a fun time trying to work w/ it while the screen was going haywire. Point is, it did it in recovery, too.
My thoughts are this - try installing system updates like 'normal' and if nothing goes wrong w/ the screen, then try a ROM but skip the part of clearing the system data and only wipe cache and dalvik.
How does that sound?

I was going to throw out hardware issue too. @ the op, does stock still not give you the ghost touch issue still? If it doesn't, then I'm not sure entirely. I'd recommend using a different recovery and checking the md5 of your rom then do a completely clean flash. Maybe your phone just doesn't play nicely with twrp

Yes, I was thinking hardware too but I'm just confused as to why it's only w/ updated software that it goes goofy. That's why I was thinking of trying the updates on the stock ROM to see if that was where the problem was. If it is, then I'm insured and should be able to take it in to the Sprint store.
With the original ROM I first tried, I tried 4 different downloads and when I first noticed the problem, that's when I went to the Wicked Sensations ROM. These all included the most recent OTA.
Btw.. I mostly download to my phone via my WiFi. I did try pc to phone in that ROM that I downloaded several times, but it was still the same.

I've only tried TWRP in the last couple days b/c it was suggested in the installation instructions of the particular ROMS. Would like to know why.
I like it, but CWM has never done me wrong.
Flashed the updated stock rom from this thread and kept root w/ the zip that's on that thread. Nothing's happening, of course, which is not only confusing but irritating.
Just downloaded the last ROM I tried last night onto my laptop and will transfer it and try it again after I make a backup of its current state. Will also take the suggestion of letting it sit for several minutes before seeing if the ghost is still following me.

Personally, I would resort to odin and start from a fresh slate. See if you can wipe the system and internal storage from twrp(or cwm), then flash the stock image and go through the whole rooting process (using the toolbox). That way, you can rule out software related issues if it's still a problem. Also, I'd see if it's still there before rooting..that's what I would do...

My bad... You JUST said you basically did that...
I did as I said I was going to do and flashed the stock. Lost my recovery so I tried Odin for the first time and put it back on there and proceeded to make a backup of its current state.
A few hours later I went ahead and flashed the new from I transferred over and I'm happy to say that everything is allll good... so far.
Never had any problems on the updated stock so it doesn't seem to be hardware related but it took a couple days later on one rom which is when I originally posted.

I finally decided to root and install a custom rom today
I have Samsung Galaxy Note 2, SGH-i317M
The root went fine, but when I flashed in Carbon, it wouldn't let me look at any of the apps and just said "Unfortunately, launcher has stopped."
I waited a bit but this didn't go away. So I decided to reboot and see if it would fix it. It didn't and the next time something else stopped working and I couldn't get back to the homescreen, and the home button did not work. I tried going into recovery and using my backup, but it said there were no files found, I think they got deleted when I wiped the cache by mistake instead of the davlik cache
So now I wanna go back to stock. Right now i'm downloading the stock firmware, should I just use ODIN with this and it'll fix it? Do I need to do anything different in ODIN or is it the same as when I was rooting it?
Which recovery are you using? Did you factory reset, wipe partition cache and wipe dalvik cache?

really should read before posting because a lot of people had the same problems. but dont be discourage because as long as you can get twrp then you are good to go. trust me i am not a developer just a flashahaulic once you get to using custom roms you will understand how great it really is.
alot of times the first time you flash little things might hiccup you panic or reset to soon just turn your phone off then press the volume up, home button and the power hold till the recovery comes up then. now if your did a back up before you started then you can just restore and it will fix the problem. now if you didnt do that trust me i have done it plenty of times before till i relised how important it was to do. just go and down load another rom ( like jedi x} real stable. wipe every thing twice and wipe rom. install new rom and wait it might take a while but wait then you should be good
Thank you everyone, I managed to get my stock back and i'll try to flash a different ROM this time. The issue with Carbon is that I needed GAPPS or some random thing, it didn't even say on the front thread and they don't even have a guide, so it's super newbie unfriendly. I should have realized that before I did anything.
Good deal in most cases if not all you'll need gapps when flashing any cyanogenmod based ROM. Good luck my friend!

Okay, now I got GAPPS and flashed in Beanstalk rom.
This time, the Android Keyboard (AOSP) is constantly crashing every 5 seconds. I can't even get into Google Play to download another keyboard. What is wrong here? I searched all over and no one else is having this problem.
Which version of gapps do you have? Be sure you've downloaded version 20130301.
