[Q] which CWM recovery version do you use ? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to find a similar thread but couldn't. So i'm creating now
I use CWM recovery 4.x
I know that the latest recovery is 5.2.x
Should i upgrade it ? And what are the differences in these versions ?

you could have carried on with this thread instead of creating another one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112033
just in case you want to upgrade,I would recommend 5.0.2.0.

Lol how did you find it ?
Anyways no one replied there other than you so i thought maybe more would reply here on this new thread

Few questions from you.
1) i'm looking to upgrade ( sdcard ) from 2GB to 4GB. How will i install a rom from it ? I mean where is CWM recovery stored ? In internal memory or sdcard ?
If it is stored in internal memory than there would be no issues. What do you say ?
Or do i need to have some CWM file in sdcard before ? Or a blank one ?

you can use a blank one straight away.CWM recovery isnt in SD card, only your nandroid backups are saved in SD card.If you want those backups then just copy clockworkmod folder from old sd card to new one.

Migrating to a new (bigger) SD Card

I know this must sound like a super-noob question, but there's a simple reason for that : it is from one.
I have run out of space on my 8 GB card so I am thinking of upgrading to a bigger card. Here are my questions:
1) If App2SD+ is there on the ROM, does the phone ask you where to install the app or it goes automagically into EXT partition?
2) I want to make a bigger partition in a bigger card and will do it via ROM Manager. Do I just copy the contents of the older card and paste it onto newer and everything will work fine?
Please answer, my life depends on it.

I just upgraded from 8 to 16 myself. 1 : automatically, 2: yes that worked for me
best thing is to pre partition the card before putting it in your phone, do a nandroid backup with your old card in, put the new one in and restore, if im not mistaken this deals with the ext partition files and then just copy all the files onto the fat32 partition from your old card
not worked for me ,I was copy to PC old cadr, have nandroid but I have A2SD+ ext part
& problems ..stock with HTC white logo ,after that I make full wipe/factory reset
& after that instal the LeeDroid rom /put again ROM manager & make ext 3 partition/
after that Titanium backup & Desire functionality was back again
hi there i have auraxtsense rom and and i have an old sd card with app2sd i bought a new card for my desire 8gb class6, and my phone stuck on htc logo screen when i put new card inside
As said above you must re-partition your new card first!
I have just done this yesterday so this is what I did:
1. Nandroid backup
2. Create EXT partition on new card with G-parted Live
3. Copy contents of old SD card to the new one (just the FAT partition visible in windows etc)
4. Put the new SD card in the phone and boot into recovery
5. Restore nandroid backup (copies all the apps back onto the EXT partition)
6. Reboot!
I can't see how you could have any problems by doing what I did. The phone will not have any problems as all the old files are exactly as they were.
Phil
how to create ext partition with gparted?
You must first resize the FAT partition and then create a new EXT partition in the newly created space.
This may be helpful as there are some pictures:
http://www.howtoforge.com/partitioning_with_gparted
Hope that helps.

So the Nandroid backup is not saved on to the SD Card?
EDIT: Ignore this. Wanted to know if it was on the FAT or ext3. I'm guessing on the FAT so nandroid backups would be included in the transfer.
What is the best tool for copy the entire contents of a memory card? I know Windows is a bit funny, stops the whole process if it finds an error, for example
Yes if you copy the files over before the nandroid then the nandroid backup is included.
TBH I just used windows to copy them all and had no problems.

One question - can the ext partitions have different sizes when restoring with nandroid?
Example - I have 1 GB ext on old card and now I'd like to have 2 GB?

Don't go larger then 1.5GB on a ext partition. Nandroid restore doesn't mind if the partition size changed, until the restored size is smaller then the new capacity.

I didn't say you can't, I stated that it's not recommended by the community to go more then 1.5GB. It was in all a2sd how-to's I've seen, has to be something about errors with the Market and app installing.
From what I understand the only advantages to APP2SD+ is that you can plug you can mount your card via USB and use your apps, and widgets can be installed on the SD.

This doesn't seem worth it for all the work reformatting another partition. If your card is upgraded to a bigger size why not use the normal method of installing apps on your SD? Why bother to partition with Ext+ as well?

Desire doesnt load while inserting a new sd card

Hi,
I bought a new 16Gb microsd hc card after installing the RCMixHD rom in order to give it a 2gb ext size.
Right now im using 8gb-512 ext3 goldcard.
Unfortunately when i put the 16gb in the device (after fat32 quick format)- the device doesnt load
Its HBOOT driver is recognized by windows but i cant get the device to load.
Any ideas?
Many thanks ahead.
rcmix installs part of the rom on the ext partition of sd card that is why the phone wont boot.
1. use a card reader to format your new card and copy the backup of your old card onto the new one (dont forget the rom which you wish to flash again, i suppose rcmix)
2. turn off your phone place in the new card
3. go into hboot, wipe everything and flash the rom
your rom should be working now with your new sd card
(Using this method will cause that you loose all the data that was previously on the phone, but personally i feel: New Card --> New Start and clean flash, that way you can ensure everything is working properly!)

Thanks a lot!
I have a feeling this might work
by the way- in which part should i create the ext partition?
before flashing the rom i guess?
and with which recovery could i make this partition to 2gb size?
Thanks again!

Or..
You can make a Nandroid backup with your old card inside, then partition the newcard with one Fat32 and one ext3 (for A2SD+), copy the folder "Clockworkmod" from the old card to new one, Insert new card, Goto Recovery, Nandroid restore all..
Should work.
Before doing this, make a Titanium backup too..

yes partition before you flash the rom.
And to create the ext partition with the correct size:
You can use amonra to create the ext, clockworkmod 2.1.5.2 (or something one of the newer versions can also do this) --> these work from recovery
I used gParted (a bootable cd, is very useful), you could use fdisk too! With these tools create the ext partition after the fat32 partition otherwise windows will want to format the sd card. (I guess depends on what OS you are using) --> i would use one of these 2 as you have more control over the process

Changing SD cards question...

Guys,I recently bought a Desire HD and have the following issue.I have a Kingston 16gb Class 10 SD card in my Desire and I want to use it with my DHD.However,I have an ext4 partition on my Desire's card and have ReflexTSense HD 1.4.1 Apps2SD+ version installed. Now,If I make a Nandroid backup of my rom, copy ALL of the card's content to my HDD(including the nandroid backup) and then copy it all to a new card(partitioned with a 1gb ext4 partition) will I be able to restore the nandroid backup normally after a full wipe or does it need another procedure?
Thanks!
Using Titanium Backup should work nicely. Or failing that, if you are using ClockworkMod Recovery you should be able to copy and paste to the new SD, make an EXT3 partition, then just restore the EXT3 partition using the advanced setting.
I was thinking of trying some other roms prior to restoring...Anyway,that is without losing any of my data, right? And what about the things I asked?
Thanks!

You want to restore your Desires nandroid to your DHD? I would be surprised if that was possible. The Desires DHD ROMs are ported so they are different to the stock ROMs of the DHD.
When I got my DHD I just started afresh, installed all apps from new, as the DHD has around 1.1 gig of internal memory you really don't need the EXT3 partition on SD card anymore.

No no no,I'm not that kind of idiot!
I want to try some other roms on my Desire(NOT HD) and change my SD card at,let's say,the same time.If I flash a rom from another card, would I be able to restore a backup that was just copied to the new one,or would I have to reinsert the card I am using now?
I know I am saying it too complicated, sometimes not even I can understand what I'm saying!
But to be more understandable...Say I make a nandroid backup now,ok?I copy it from my SD to my HDD(Hard Disk Drive,my PC,in case you don't know what it stands for.Damn I must stop using this many acronyms! ).Then I change my SD card to a new one(partitioned and stuff) and flash another rom from a zip in the new card. After that,am I able to just copy the nandroid backup I did in the beginning to my new SD card and restore?
Thanks!
Lmao, I literally had to read that twice! Using nandroid, as long as you flash the ROM that it was backed up from first, and then restore you will be fine to install any ROM. Just copy Clockworkmod/backup/(filenamehere) from your SDcard and you can drag and drop it into any SDcard and restore/backup from it.

try fix permission in advance setting of cwm. if not working either, try flshing another recovery (philztouch cwm or twrp).. make sure you have enough space.. could also try swapping with another sd card,
ClockworkMod does not support EXFAT formatted cards. ExFAT is the default for 64GB cards.
Use TWRP or get a second card, format to FAT32 and use it just for backups

[Q] [HTC Wilfire S] Unable to increase internal memory.

Hey Guys,
I am using @oliver CM 11 (Kikat) build for my WFS 2012. I have CWM recovery 6.0.4.8 version installed on it. Ive been trying hard to increase the internal memory of it.
But as mentioned in the threads for INT2EXT scripts : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 , there is no provision to Partition my SD card. Please help me with any other workaround to increase the internal memory.
I highly appreciate the good work you are doing, keep it up !!!

There is a provision to partition the SD card in CWM, I think it is under "Advanced"........ Be sure to backup the contents of the SDcard since partitioning will completely wipe it

Hey in CWM recovery normally it is present in advanced >> Partition SD card but for CWM version 6.0.4.8 there is no "Partition SD card" option thats the problem. May be @oliver didnot include this feature in this recovery software:crying:

I partitioned mine before changing recovery.
If all else fails you can always reflash cwm 5!!!! It takes a few second!
