Custom hboots for HTC Desire (bravo) - Desire General

I was completely board off my so decided to make some custom hboots for everyone, i have tried all 16 of them and all work fine. In the "Custom_hboots.zip" file there is 2 folders
[1] hboot.img
[2] PB99IMG
(16 hboots in each folder)
So you can flash just the "hboot.img" or you can do it the "PB99IMG" method. Every file in both folders have md5sum so make sure to just double check before you flash and of course at your own risk....In bootloader it will now say "AlphaRev XDA" (didnt know what else to put) So here are all the different hboot sizes...

Nice one, jmc. Very useful.
Just out of curiosity, do these hboots work on the CDMA Desire?

no they dont because the Thalamus hboot patcher uses AlphaRev hboot and if u look at the Desire General/stickies theres a thread by rootSU and he said CDMA users will brick their device if they us AlphaRev hboots. dont know why. i must read it actually.

As can be treated as stock or CM7.

Are you talking about CoolDroid Revolution?
I've already tried this rom, but it is rather slow in my opinion. Probably because all the apks are on the ext4 partition.
That's why I'm trying to move the whole system files and system data to internal, mounting the sd-ext partition as /data.
Should improve the performance.
Btw, thanks for your link. I've been looking for exactly that file for nearly an hour now.

Firstly, thanks.

I read the thread and can't make any sense of what the "brick" issue is there.
I have heard of something called an "engineering HBOOT" which I think is what's needed.
If there's tut's specificly for hboots, or on the Android booting process itself, that I could download as HTM or PDF I'd love it (I only use Wifi on my device)
Thanks for your work

Thanks. Just one question. Can small size of cache (5mb) cause force closing of some programs (Smart office 2, Ez PDF Reader). It runs only after 3-4 tries?

No. I have been using the cm7r2 hboot, with 5mb cache, and I had no such problems.

One question: Can you also flash custom hboots via Android Flasher?
EDIT: Never mind, it works.

Flahsing the 155-5-277 on HTC Desire Android 4.1.1 and CM10 did not work.

Hello,
I have an HTC Desire and on that runs Android 4.1.1 and Cyanogenmod10 (versie CM10-Elk759, build number: Elk_0161jb_JRo03R, Kernel version 2.6.38.8-evervolv-turba-jellybean). I tried to flashboot the 155-5-277 image file but after that, my phone did not start up again (got stuck at the initial HTC screen). After flashing the original hboot image again, things worked as before.
My questions now are:
1 What may have caused this (and related to this)
2 Could it be that the 5M Cache is too small for the HTC Desire with Android 4.1.1 and Cyanogenmod10?
3 Would it be possible for the original author of this article to provide some image file with Cashes of e.g. 20 or 30M?
Kind regards,
Gerard

[Q] Gingerbread 2.3.3 + App2SD/Data2SD

Hello dear friends. First of all - please excuse me for maybe the stupid questin i'm going to ask I want to say that i searh for this issue all day and i still can't find a satisfying answer
So lets start - I bought HTC Desire 2-3 weeks ago and of course i began modifying it I've tried tons of custom ROMS & stuff like this and i get to a final conclusion - the official HTC Gingerbread update 2.3.3 for the Desire is the best and i just dont want to change it It's simply the fastest one, without significant bugs and so on. The only problem is that i can't find a way to make my internal storage bigger I managed to do this with a custom ROM, but all of the ROMS were either laggy or with some major bugs that i don't like. So my question is:
IS THERE A WAY TO MAKE MY INTERNAL STORAGE BIGGER AND STILL USE THE OFFICIAL HTC GINGERBREAD 2.3.3 UPDATE
Thanks in advance for helping guys
One word- Supernova
Sent from my Desire running Supernova Extreme - Gingerbread goodness with Unlimited Internal memory
I just don't want custom ROMS buddy I've tried the Supernova, and i got some problems with the mobile connection... I reall want an official ROM with just more internal space
Well then you can do these steps:
Install ext4 support
Install init.d support
Install Busybox
Modify your kernel to add init.d and busybox runparts
Finally add a2sd or data2sd yourself
Each step has its own seperate thread on Xda. You can search and find it
Have been using supernova for a week or so now. Not had any issues and my apps run fine on Sandisk 8 gig class 4 with 1 gig EXT4 partition. Now with all my apps etc installed i have 839 meg free space for more apps. I don't think the Desire will get any more OTA updates as 2.3.3 was only available via download and came with several disclaimers.
Try Link2SD, only need is second partition.

The stock feature with witch one can move apps to is called "Apps2SD". The apps can moved to FAT32 partition if the dev programmed the app for this.
The script which moves automatically moves apps to SD is called "A2SD / A2SD+". A2SD if you use this feature only for apps, A2SD+ if you also move dalvik-cache to SD. The partition is here.an EXT one. Furthermore, it doesn't matter if the dev programmed the app for this or not.
@OP:
Try oxygen ROM with the script which moves dalvik cache to EXT partition if you don't want to go S-OFF and flash oxygen hboot.

Recommended Sense ROM with biggger storage to install apps?

Hey
My friend is pretty tired of the Desire not having enough space to install applications. Im going to put a Sense ROM (Latest Sense with Gingerbread) but that allows ALL apps to be installed on the SD so he can have more space to install stuff. What ROM do you recommend?
Thanks
Good question. I wouldn't want to move away from Sense either but am always running out of space.
my suggestion:
Acesmod007 cm7 v39
In case you will wonder: 1gb ext4 partition will do the trick.
I use Alex v rom data2w with 1.3gb internal memory.
It's fast and so much internal memory..

I strongly recommend Oxygen. With Sense one starts with 135 mb of free space for apps. With Oxygen, I started with 330 mb. I have over 110 apps and still have about 50 mb available.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
The difference in free space is incredible. Doesn't the Desire have 512Mb at the start? For HTC to only give 1/5 to end-users is nuts.

I especifically said Sense.
For all apps to install to Sd you can try the data2ext roms like supernova or the data2ext version of Cool3D AceS V4. These roms will allow you to put your entire data partiton onto the sdext partition, giving you 'unlimited' memory.

In the spirit of helping you, regardless of the fact I think you're an arse:
Choose any sense Rom you want. Partition the sd card with an ext partition.
Use a2sd+ or data2sd to maximize space.

being an arse to people trying to help you will not endear you to anyone.
Quick question please (which I imagine will help the OP too), is it possible to have proper App2SD "without" resorting to a new ROM?
If so, is there a link that tells you how to do it. I asked a similar question a while ago and all suggestions also revolved around ROM upgrades:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055163
Depends on the Rom. If its a rooted version of the Rom that came on your phone, you need to add init.d support then a2sd. The first part is a lot of trouble. Much easier to flash a custom Rom. If you follow my signature link then the root memory faq, there's a link back to a thread here to do it but I can't see why anyone would go to this trouble
If your Rom already has init.d support you can flash any a2sd solution.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks. Perfect answer.
I'm using the stock ROM that came with my HTC Desire then upgraded to Froyo OTA (Sense 2.x. I don't know the exact version). I doubt it's got that in it. So like you say, it's easier to install a custom ROM.
Indeed, no stock Roms have init.d
Init.d is a folder that you put scripts in and they run on boot or initialization.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1040121
Cool Sense 2.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200517
Lets revise them (by looking at first post):
Alex-V 1.0 GB Rom: Looks pretty good and clean but based on the old Sense, not the latest.
SuperNova: Looks great. Very easy to set up it seems. But again, looks like it is based on the old Sense, not the latest.
Cool3D Sense 3.0: I think this is the one Im looking for The only problem is that setup looks a bit "difficult" to say a word. Im sure looking thru Itll just take a few minutes more than the others but...
Cool Sense 2.1: I imagine this is the above but the old Sense. Easier to setup too.
Some questions did come up:
1: Do I have to S-OFF the HTC Desire?
2: Is rollback with a NANDroid backup easy and painful?
3: I imagine the answer is Cool3D Sense 3.0 but which has the most "eye-candy"?
4: Reverse question of sorts to number 3, which is the fastest?
The phone isnt mine but these answers would be nice so I can explain to the person what I am about to do.
Thanks to everyone who is helping

Rom will not boot without that. But I thought you need only the system files. Download the rom from the direct download link. In that zip you will see a folder name system. And in that folder you'll see another folder named app. I know nothing about porting. So I don't know if you put these system apks in your mobile, it will work or not. I personally tried to put sense 3.5 system apks in sense 2.1. They never worked. I'll upload the sense 2.1 latest files. Wait a little as my upload rate is quite low.

My device is an international HTC One X, it is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. Its s-on (oh well..) and i has CWM installed for recovery. HBOOT version 1.39.0000 (never changed the hboot version).
What lead up to my situation:
I moved from my stock rom to [ROM][Jan 14] Jellybean 4.2.1 for Endeavoru AOSP Build [BT Audio fixed] [ANY HBOOT], working fine for 2 weeks. Then i want to flash [ROM][04 Nov]PARANOIDANDROID 2.53 | Per-App COLOR, Dpi & UserInterface.
Instruction for flashing:
CWM: Wipe Cache / Factory Reset IF coming from another ROM (except CM10)
CHOOSE BETWEEN JB OR ICS :
CWM: Install Zip: Rom (Jelly Bean): Download
CWM: Install Zip: Rom (ICS, v1.6a): Download
CWM: Install Zip: Gapps: Download
Fastboot: flash boot.img
CWM: Wipe Cache Partition
CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi & Layout under Settings/Paranoid Settings
Click to collapse
Did all - choose the JB rom, not the ICS. Also did a factory reset just to be sure, though my previous custom rom was a 4.2.1 JB rom aswell.
After last reboot its stuck on the HTC logo itself. I then (for the heck of it) flashed the boot.img from [ROM][Jan 14] Jellybean 4.2.1 for Endeavoru AOSP Build [BT Audio fixed] [ANY HBOOT] - because it was able to boot my phone with the other rom.. After that, its stuck at the custom bootscreen for [ROM][04 Nov]PARANOIDANDROID 2.53 | Per-App COLOR, Dpi & UserInterface. Its been loading this rom for +15 minutes.
My question: It doesnt seem the phone ever boot. Will replacing the boot.img with [something else] solve my problem, or is it a problem with my HBOOT version? I am not very fond of replacing the hboot, because i havent researched this as much, and from what i read its a quite important part of the phone.
Any help is appriciated! I tried searching for the answer on my Hboot problem, but wasnt able to find anything. Should there be a thread on this matter, then please just redirect me, i am perfectly able to read and understand text
Kind Regards
TwinAdk
Since it is based on CM10(?), and is version 4.1.x of android, I assume that it will not work out of the box with 1.3x hboot version.
On regular CM10 this is solved by a special boot.img, and a similar solution might exist for paranoidandroid.
Please search the parsnoidandroid thread for "hboot" and something useful may pop up. (I can't do that as I'm browsing on road. )
And one more thing: never flash boot.img from another ROM, it will not work.

Hello,
Thank you. I flashed the boot.img from the zipfile with the ROM, but i will search the rom thread for a special rom to solve my problem with the hboot version.
Do you know where i can find more about hboot versions and custom rom compatebility? Also, is it best to have an old or new HBOOT version? The thread of the custom rom says the following:
If you're on boot 1.23, 1.28, etc... use this boot.img for now - it's for 3.3 ROM and it has NCX v13 kernel inside

But the link (this boot.img) is a dead one to dropbox.. I guess the search goes on! Can you clearify what the OP means by "1.23, 1.28 etc"?
Kind Regards

it means hboot versions....try and use a unified hboot kernel...most of the times should be the latest one in the updated rom itself

He means Jelly Bean hboots: 1.23, 1.28, 1.31, 1.36, 1.39

Jelly Bean hboots (described earlier) are compatible with Jellybean and ICS Sense ROMs, and 4.2.x AOSP ROMs
(And somewhat compatible with aosp jb roms other than 4.2(like paranoidandroid) with workarounds like a special boot.img)
ICS hboots (lower than 1.23) are compatible with ICS Sense ROMs and all AOSP ROMs.
The best hboot depends on the roms ypu want to run and it is not possible to downgrade it.(W/o s-off)

I am aware that the numbers are versions But he seems to group these version numbers together by a common attribute, and it is that attribute i am looking for. For example, hboot 0.94 is not in that group, or is it? Are the hboot versions majorly different from some version and forward, or some version and backwards... maybe a wierd question. The ROM threads OP links to this youtube demo video on the flash process, he is on hboot 0.94, for example..
Thank you for the update on the hboot versions, that answers the section i grayed out (is there no strikethrough on xda??)
Is an older Hboot just universally better? Also, can you elaborate on "unified hboot kernel"? Or point to a thread Whats in the word unified..
I found a boot.img for 1.3x hboots in the roms thread (here), i will try that now.

did you fastboot erase cache before flashing the boot.img
Yep, i noticed that too, im looking for at boot.img in the CORRECT rom thread... I have both threads open, and search the wrong one.
Will the captcha check to post disappear at some point?

dude..just fastboot erase cache and take the boot.img from the rom itself and it should work...i done the reading on the PA thread and that is the procedure you should do
Okay... This is wierd..
@Goku80 - I did erase cache, both via CWM and via fastboot directly.
I managed to get the rom to work eventually. I used the boot.img and the modules from this post. The boot.img (boot.repacked.n3o.v13.for.new.hboot.img) link was dead, but i found it via google.
In this thread, where that same file is discussed, it is reported that the boot.img file is NOT working:
I added the boot.img to the OP, becoue it was reportred as working one with newest hboots. But it looks like it is not working. So i will remove it today.
Looks like the rom IS NOT WORKING ON NEWER HBOOTS. If anyone finds the way to get it work, please keep us informed.

- But for me it worked anyway..
Thanks everyone, i learned alot about hboot versions and the boot.img issues that can arise

Thanks both of you guys The rom is quite messy, UI wise, and the default android keyboard crashes CONSTANTLY.. Cant get to GP to download swiftkey 3 that i purchased, but will attempt push and install via adb or build a zip from cwm backup i can install from recovery..
For now i reverted, but did a cwm backup, though keyboard is broken, for easy restore.
From my International HOX via xda app
I don't think I'll use the custom rom after all, it's very buggy (could be a problem on my part, with the way I did things, not really sure ). Apart from the keyboard constantly crashing, the preloaded application for flashlight 'stopped working' over and over.. Not very comforting.
I tried to install the swiftkey 3 app by using app2zip to create a update.zip file, and then flash the update file from cwm, but swift key 3 never shows up in the app list after reboot... Wasn't it supposed to do that?

Try another ROM, I recommend IceColdJelly by LorD ClockaN, really stable, no FCs, and it's compatible with your hboot right away!
That is my next go, for sure I have seen it already, i was just keen on the DPI one, due to the options to customize DPI per app..

change the dpi on ICJ and you can still get mdpi apps for your rom..make sure you run a launcher like Nova or leave the default one and you should be fine...
i would suggest ICJ also as it is the smoothest and great AOKP rom out there at the mo

By "The dpi on ICJ" you mean overall for the system, right? In probbuild. WHat is mdpi apps? Multi DPI? And a launcher like nova? Can you direct me to info on nova and mdpi apps? Or just quickly explain I would like my homescreen in one DPI, my apps list and config menu in other DPI, and some apps in 3rd and 4th DPIs... Can ICJ really do that??
