Ok sorry if this question is noobish but what is the difference?
They are both cyanogenmods but two different Download Thread.
Nightly's are not offically released by Cyanogen and RC's are, but they are both compiled by the same team. Plus RC's are considered stable enough for official release.

Nightlies are what CM7 RC1 is based off of. It essentially IS one of the nightlies. The nightlies are automatically built by a bot every night at the same time so that all the changes made that day are packaged into a rom and that is what becomes the next nightly.
The nightlies will continue to be built becauase RC1 means release candidate and is not considered stable.
They will eventually release an official CM7 Stable.

LOL "Built by a Bot Every Night" You made it sound so leet lol. I always it was some dude who just updates it and put it on.
But thanks. I am using RC1 right now everything is working so far. My last nightly was giving me reboot when i open my keyboard.
Also, you can always continue to flash the next versions of nightlies over the RC1, as other improvements and changes are made.

So the nightlies folowing an RC are based on the RC or on the previous nightly?
What are Cyanogenmod Nightly ROMs? I would like to run one but am not sure what the difference is.
They are regular roms of CM7, but each nightly builds upon the last by updating fixes, patches, and new features.
Alright thanks.
Anytime man.
I'm new to the ROM stuffs. So can any one explain what is the difference between CM7 and the nightly build one??
Nightlies are automated builds, with potentially more new features, and more bugs. So, they are not officially supported (As in, support for bugs). Stable, as the name suggests, is a stable build with official support for bugs.
So If we wan't a stable rom, we shouldn't use nightly build right??
Probably Yes. But it isn't always that you are using a nightly, it will be full of bugs. I am using a Nightly and have no issues.
yes , nightly's have bugs sometime so if u want stable rom use CM7-7.0.3 which is the latest stable release
Hey!
I want to put CM rom on my gf's wildfire and i didn't find anywhere the difference between the regular and the nightly version... can someone explain it to me?
Nightlies are experimental versions, which may be better than the stable, but, it may sometimes also have bugs not present in the stable. The building of nightlies is a continuous process, with a new nightly released everyday.
Another difference is that you do not get "official" support on the CM Bug tracker for nightlies, but, this is available for RC / Stable versions.
For your gf's phone, I would probably recommend you go with the stable.
thank you for your help!
stable is better for father, i think
i was wondering what the difference is between the 2.....i have the nightly but i just saw the stable and was wondering what would change?
Nightly might have some features that would make it unstable. So it is considered experimental for the most part. Stable means the Rom is set with little to no problems. I would suggest the stable build if you don't want to keep flashing your phone.

ok so i have the cm7 nightly the latest one....so the latest stable release is the better of the 2?
Well it's pretty simple: Stable builds are just that, stable. Nightly builds are experimental builds, meant to try out for a day, and if people have problems, they will be fixed the next night.
So if you want a stable build, flash a stable rom. If you dont mind a few bugs, flash the nightly.
Cm nightly 256 is nearly flawless and arguably, even better than the "stable" version
^ is right, sometimes the nighly out do the stable, just have to find the right one
