Hi All ,
I just flashed my phone from Yakjuxw to Takju ( 4.2.1 Stock) and 1 of the issues im having is that my wifi bars grey out when i lock the screen. I have set its to never go off even when the screen sleeps and ive also turned off wifi optimization.
Any 1 facing the same issue ?

This is a common bug for a bunch of people on 4.2.1. Sometimes it works correctly other times it goes grey.

So it has nothing to do with my phone being changed from yakjuxw to takju, right?
Nope, my phone was changed from yakjuux to takju and I also experience the issue.

Not sure if its fixed 100% but its been stable for a while now. What I did,
I was playing around with my router and I did somethin and it randomly reset my Wireless settings to the factory default.
The Router is a Belkin N300 Router, The channel was set by me to 9 , Extension was set to 5 , Bandwith 20/40 Mhz, Mode N
Post the reset it went to Channel 1, Extension (Greyed out), Bandwith 20Mhz, Mode N.
Seems to be better now. Hopefully this helps someone else, and moreover, holds up
4.2.2 and still no fix of the Wifi issues when the phone sleeps. Anyone has any luck with that ?

Did anybody notice their WiFi going to sleep even when I have "always" checked in the "Keep WiFi on during sleep" advanced menu option for WiFi? I'm using Groove IP as my voip connection and need my WiFi to be on constantly in order to receive calls, however, whenever the phone goes to sleep mode, my WiFi connection turns off and when I wake the phone it takes a couple of seconds for WiFi to turn back on and then my voip app signs back in.
Does anyone have a suggestion for this issue?
P.S. I have a GSM unlocked version of Galaxy Nexus
Thanks
I have the exact same issue and it's driving me nuts. First I thought it's because I'm using a custom ROM, now I restored everything to stock 4.01 and I still get the same issue.
Could rooting be the cause?
It happens to me to when I'm streaming videos from phone to my tv, as soon as screen goes off on the phone within a few mins the wifi will go off or slow down considerably.

After checking couple of forums, I realized that this is a general bug for Android. Many people complain about it but it seems nobody could find an exact solution. I will try to explain the problem to be more precise.
Even though "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is checked as "Always", when the phone goes to sleep it doesn't connect to internet.
Wifi signal shows it is connected but it is not. I have to disable/enable wifi in order to make it work.
You can see many posts regarding to this issue. It looks like people acquiesced the problem since nobody found an exact problem.
Is there any solution that you could find?
I dont have that issue at all.....using gsm nexus.

I have GSM Nexus also.
I bought it 3 days ago. I noticed it right after I powered it on. I had similar issue with my HTC Desire.
Now I installed a ROM to try it and still no luck. I started to think that problem is because of modem.
What ROM & Kernel are you using?

This happens to me. I picked up some gameloft games in the 99 cent sale and downloading 800mb over wifi is impossible. The screen turns off and the download fails.
I found I have to set the screen to stay on when on USB, plug it into a wall, and download.
I've been on several roms. I haven't started experimenting with kernels but thats the fix I think in this case. Even CM roms do this. Hopefully it isn't hard coded into the hardware.

You could set your screen sleep policy to wait 30minutes to turn off. Surely wouldn't take longer than that.
+1...downloading game loft games is not possible. The game only downloads on wifi but the download stops after the screen goes to sleep.
Edit: Just tried downloading 300mb of game loft game data and it works even when screen is off. Im on AOKP BUILD 17, I definitely had this problem on stock 4.0.2.

I had the same problem with my stock rom. I still have problem. I didn't try any other rom until now. I think I should give a try.

I am my second Galaxy Nexus due to other issues. The first one did not have this wifi sleep issue, but my current GN does ( I installed a VOIP app on the second that was not on the first... not sure if this has anything to do with the wifi sleep issue). I think I may have found a work around. I changed the setting to never and tested a few times. Then I changed it to always again and now wifi remains on while the phone sleeps. I have tested it a few times and so far it is still working. I will update the post if the problem reoccurs.
Stock ROM (4.0.2)
You know what,I have the opposite issue.my wifi never shuts off.... I just leave it.wifi on this is way way way more battery efficient than my galaxy s. Even the cell radios are pretty awesome. Hardly take any battery at all.

Hello, with IMM76D I hadn´t the common problem of losing signal when the screen going off. But, I experienced that sometimes, when I was using the phone, the signal goes off during 2 seconds or so (WIFI also).
So, I have experienced that IMM76I doesn´t resolve the problem.
Have you ever noticed that?
Yup I keep losing signal as well on IMM76D. Both wifi and 3G. However it seems to have gotten better on the latest cyanogenmod nightly I flashed
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
OH!!!!!!!! very bad news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMM76D is not supposed to fix that problem. Only the screen off problem.
But it would be nice if they fixed both surely.
Still on 4.0.2 and won't let me update but I guess no need to because it does not solve this problem.
I think may 3 will solve my gn problem lollllllll for the people with no internet the galaxy s 3 will be shown lol

I never had the mobile network bug until today, but often since the 4.0.1 the wifi bug, that disconnects randomly when the phone locks (also if i selecter "always on" in the advanced settings). I still have this bug.
Today, with 4.0.4 IMM76I, when i was browsing the web, also the mobile network bug happened.
Pratically, when i was browsing (so NOT when the phone was locked) the phone completely lost signal (and so, 3G connection), and then it got it (signal) about 10 seconds later.
This has happened 2 times in about 15 minutes.
What i must think?

I've never had this issue until yesterday. I would lose reception completely after less than a one minute phone conversation. I reflashed my rom multiple times and nothing helped.. I finally restored my very first nandroid and the signal loss disappeared
Losing the wifi or 3g signal during browse the net and to get it back since 4.0.1 is not the same that the signal is gone during the phone sleeps.
Signal issue during sleep is from 4.0.4 only.
Please avoid making disturbance by misunderstanding and mix up different things.
I don't know if i'm the only one but..i noticed that the colors have improved in this last update(IMM76I).....

I noticed that it happens on mine only when I am using a Plantronics Bluetooth headset. Otherwise both 3G and Wi-Fi don't drop on IMM76I.

We don't need two threads on this.
Nonetheless:
IMM76I was just a kernel. The kernel reverts the radio and voltage changes.
If folks really believe that IMM76I was not a fix, they could easily run an old 4.0.3 kernel. If it fixes it, then the problem is IMM76I, if it does not, then they are pointing their finger in the wrong direction.
Here is a 4.0.3 image I found. Fastboot it.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot boot.img
Does the sleep problem affect 4.0.4 users in the US? It seems like mostly europe and other countries? Anyone in US having that problem?
europe/maguro: no drops on stock IMM76D/stock IMM76D+fugumod, nor on cm9+fugumod. no drops on IMM76I as well..

I use paranoid android 2.99 and Trinity a4, sometime when i didn't use my phone and i lock the screen, and i wanna turn it on again, the phone won't response. The only way that i can turn it on is by pulling the battery out, i can't help but wonder Ida's it a hardware or software issue?

Have you tinkered with kernel settings? Lowered voltages? Changed governors?
Have you tried a different kernel?

nope, I'm too scared to do that, i just change the screen color, besides, i have already uninstalled it, it's too risky i don't wanna mess up with my gnex
Go back to stock. If it still does "whatever", then it's hardware, most likely. Common sense.
Sent from my i9250
maybe try default setting for the screen.
Trinity a4 has sod issues. I didnt have any but many did. Your phone is fine (most likely) just flash another rom or kernel.
Change kernel.

I have a similar problem with stock 4.2. Sometimes the screen goes blank (like a dark Grey back light), the phone is still on, but I can't get into it anymore. It registers touches etc, just the screen doesn't get back.
Flashed clean stock Image, factory reset and data restore.
Only battery pull helps. Happens 1 or 2 times per day in various situations (texting, browsing, whatsapp). Luckily I don't have any of the other 4.2 problems.

i have exactly the same problem... now im on cm10 and it happen less than before, but the issue is still there..
when did your problem start?
i dont know if it is a hardware or software issue, because with some stock roms happen a lot more than with some custom roms.
is there any difference between flashing using toolkit or odin?? if i wanna go back to stock, but i mean totally stock, toolkit or odin are exactly the same??
btw, this freeze that for some people happen "only" when the phone is in lockscreen it's exactly the same issue of the blank screen, the only difference is that you haven't had the the crash in your face XD... but it is the same.
I had it since 4.2. Also the occasional reboot. Before my Nexus never rebooted or locked on its own since March this year.

Hello, i'm using CyanogenMod 10.1, but i had the same problem with AOKP.
The problem is that, when i put in standby my phone for a long time, Wifi turns off (or it just disconnects, that's still not ok)...
It takes a while, i mean, if it's in standby for 5 minutes or less, everything seems ok, but after a while (don't know for sure how long), when i wake it, i find that it was disconnected. The problem is that i don't have a flat data plan so when i'm at home i have to choose if use my limited data or not receive network notifications...
Any solution?

Try turning off "Avoid Poor Connections".. and
Turn off "Wifi Optimization".
R: WiFi turns off when screen is off?
I'm trying... Does disabling wifi optimization make it a lot more battery hungry?

me too have the same problem in my xperia ray
but iam using cyanogenmod 9.1.0 stable version...
but when the screen is off for some minutes the wifi turns off even i gave keep wifi on during sleep in wifi advanced settings
I often have the same problem. I've tried fixing it with most combination of those WiFi settings, in both stock and CM10.1 and it still happens. I think it might be something with the phone, but if anyone knows of a way to fix it, that would be great.
WiFi is known issue on 4.2.2 ROM.
