N1700 for 500.00 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this a good deal guys? I got offered it, a white, barely used.. i have tmobile and wanted to know the difference, i know it wont get tmobile 4g speeds (which doesnt bother me because i dont have data anyways). And the n1700 gets updates way ahead, no crapware, and better dev.
Any hardware differences? I keep searching but it looks to be the same.
So which would you guys take? A T889 500.00 or a N1700 for 500.00?

T mobile's 4G network is HSPA+ up to 42Mbps, which the N7100 supports.

Did you mean n7100?

No.
U have to at least unlock it.
Then go to specs of AT&T vs T-mobile frequencies. See what's supported. And then u'll see the light.
It will work as long as you first get it sim unlocked then flash the Tmobile Radio. Then you'll get Tmo's 4G.

I have both phones, an ATT SGS3 and the T-mobile Note 2. The SGS3 will work on TMO, but you get Edge data, not 4G. I don't know if you can actually unlock the TMO radio to get 4G. I don't that the phone actually has it and so far haven't found anyone that's done that.

T999 -vs- I9300 International

This is not a rant nor a rave post, it's all about one's opinion regarding the difference between the International version S3 and the T-mobile S3.
I have had my S3 T999 UNLOCKED version for a while now, it's a 16gig model and after Flashing so many ROM's and whatnot, I am seriously considering getting the International version.
My decision is NOT based on the HARDWARE difference between the 2, it's based on the SOFTWARE alone.
IMHO, It's totally inconceivable to expect a device like a cellphone to be a Speed demon or have the Fastest and Latest super this or super that. I don't think anyone BOUGHT their device for that reason alone so what did we buy it for in the first place ?
1. Reliable Communication should be the #1 top reason for everyone.
2. Dependability should be #2, I would believe.
3. Utility as a personal entertainment device to pass the time when one is bored.
There are other reasons that I can't think of but it's safe to say that the T-mobile S3 is different in 1 regard, between the other GSM carriers, T-mobile has 1 different frequency, don't quote me but I think it's the 2100 .
Would any of you care to share your opinion if you had to go back and change your mind would you have gotten an UNLOCKED S3 International over the T-mobile's version, disregarding the hardware aspects of the 2 ?
P.S. Oh and BTW, Is there any end users and/or Developers that have both devices ?
Regarding the Software, I just would like to have the Essential apps that 1 needs, not all this other B$ that is dependent of the other bloated apps, I think everyone knows what am referring too, right ?
If Wild or Doc, reads this, maybe we can ask for a ROM that let's us install the apps we want on our devices via the Aroma installer, would be nice right pps ?
Yes, the T-Mobile version is different in that it lacks LTE and it adds the AWS (1700/2100) band. You never really said why you made a decision to change devices, just that you had made a decision. Personally, I am happy with the phone I have, but I am on T-Mobile, so the T999 that I have is an obvious choice. Are you on T-Mobile? If you are, think carefully before you get another version, since you probably won't get the data speeds you expect with any other GS3 version, at least not at this time.
I don't understand what are you trying to tell us, but if you going with international version make sure you get a career like Att the support hspa, otherwise you will be stuck on edge for tmobile, until they re framed their network
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Only reason to NOT get Internation version is simply as stated before of the AWS band, you going to be on EDGE with the internation version no matter where in the US you go too. So what is your reason for switching anyway?? Because your post is confusing

I recently find out that my carrier uses 900 mHz network GSM.

This is really important for me. You have SEEN his Note get 4g here in Vegas? My gt-i9300 is in transit as I type this so I really wanna know if 1900 band will really supply me at least 3g speeds as of 9.24.12. Because if they're both 1900 baseband phones I don't see why my sgs3 gt-i9300 couldn't get it. Btw I live in eastern side of town. Around Hollywood and lake Mead. Around which side of town does he get those speeds?

Will Tmo S3 work on its future LTE network?

I'm about to upgrade my mytouch 4g to S3. But I'm wondering if S3 will support future LTE network. I've heard that in future 3G network will use 1900 band and lte will be implement on 1700/2100. Can S3 support LTE in future? If not, I'll probably wait for next year to upgrade my phone. THanks.
I think the only carriers version that does not is tmobile.

No, it will not support the LTE network. It is not included in the SoC of the phone.
Oh. That sounds pretty bad to me. But I thought tmo uses 1700/2100 for its lte network and MSM8960 has lte chip correct?

I saw they are planning LTE implementation in early 2013. Does anyone believe that? And where? Granted, they need to be able to compete so they've got to act relatively quickly, but in my experience HSPA+ ain't bad. I'm imagining I'll be ready to upgrade my S3 by the time LTE matters (Metro West Boston). Whatchya'll think?

Yes T-Mobile is slowly adding lte, the same band at&t uses. But like others have said, our T-Mobile version does not have the hardware to support it. If anything we need to use the at&t version, but we'll be missing the h+ bands.. so it's a clear cut from edge to lte... probably going to be spotty.. i would rather just stick with h+ or use s4

Yes. That's correct. TMO is deploying LTE on AWS 1700/2100 and use 1900(from ATT) for their H+ network. So that's why I'm a little confused here.
If let's say tmo finished upgrading, would the phone without 1900 band still be able to use the hsdpa+ network? I guess I have wait until they finish the upgrade.
I'm starting to believe Samsung are pushing these S3 phones away to release a newer S3 or something. $50 for a S3 with 2 year contract is ridiculously cheaper than any other recent phones on the market. It may be cheaper than S2. Companies usually do these type of moves when getting rid of something to present something newer (maybe the Note II) but to answer your answer, no. T999 doesn't support LTE but LTE does need AWS spectrum which T999 has.

MSM8960 chip supports LTE. can someone check.
So what qualcomm chip does this Tmo S3 have? Based off this teardown link its at:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/cr...s-easy-open-case-difficult-to-fix-display/666
And that chip has LTE capability look at the S4 plus specs http://www.qualcomm.com/snapdragon/processors/s4/specs
Has anybody opened the phone to double check?
We've already had this discussion when the phone was first released. The short answer is no.

[Q] Buying Advice, LTE vs HSPA+ ?

Hi guys,
I'm wondering should i go for the HSPA+ on the galaxy note 2, since i hear it's more battery friendly ?
Dose the Galaxy note 2 international version support HSPA+ 1700 ? and LTE ? i really tried to figure out the differences but i couldn't.
I'm using my simple mobile in Austin, TX and they are pretty cheap and offer HSPA+ 1700, which i'm willing to go for and trade LTE for battery. is this a good idea?
Your thoughts about the white vs gray ? ,, gray looks cool
im in the us, which is a good site to order from? ,, should i buy or is it wiser to wait?
Thank you guys in advance and please help
Fellow Austinite here also excited for the Note II! I'm gonna wait for the T-Mobile version. It's going to have support for their HSPA+ network and is future proofed with LTE when T-Mobile starts deploying that, so you should be able to choose which radio you want on.
From an article I read several weeks back when the TMobile Note2 was first leaked, the TMobile version will only support HSPA+. It won't even support TMobile's LTE, when the get around to building it. So I'm waiting to see if the ATT version will cover TMobile's frequencies or how modem flashing works out.

LTE has its MAJOR benefits. I love LTE but right now, I'm gonna jump on the HSPA int'l version first.
Guess I'm waiting for the TMobile one. Also curious how flashable the modem is. It would be nice is the differences between all the phones was only a flash.

I have an unlocked T889 running 4G (HSPA+) on AT&T. So long as you have a data plan it'll work. LTE radio is software locked for now, but really HSPA+ is fast enough for most uses and probably doesn't drain the battery as fast.

I have the TMobile SGH-T889...paid $25 to that cellunlocker cite, used their code with my AT&T HTC One X SIM in the Note II. It registered on AT&T, so I ran some speedtests with the Ookla app. I got test speeds in the 3-4Mb/s range, which in my area is as good as AT&T's HSPA+ network gets. The same SIM pulls the same speeds on my AT&T One X.
Conclusion, it works on AT&T 3G/fake-4G network no problems.
That said, the exact same phone, in the exact same location, with its TMobile SIM in it, gets 10-12Mb/s on the speedtest app. Not sure why I'd want to run the AT&T sim in this phone with that kind of speed difference.
