Have been researching this topic for a long time and I dont see any solutions other than sending it to the HTC.
Symptoms:
No boot at all (unable to get into recovery , boot menu etc)
When I try to turn the phone on (using power button) I get 7 vibrations and a blinking red led light(sometimes), nothing else. (the screen is dark, the only response from phone is those 7 vibrations and led)
If I try to boot it with power button and volume key , I get the response mentioned above.
If I plug the phone into the computer I dont get ANY response from the computer or from the phone. If I try to plug it into the charger I get 7 vibrations and constant led light.
Battery is good. Had this phone for 2+ years, no water damage, not rooted. Had been factory reset few months ago.
Basically I was walking, wanted to check my time, pulled out my phone from my pocket and it was turned off. Tried booting it and get the symptons above.
EDIT: after I try to boot the phone and experience those symptoms, the phone doesnt respond to anything.
The only way to get 7 vibrations back(excluding led - sometimes it stays on/blinks after vibratons) is to pull the battery out and try to boot it again.
Thanks.
Your stuck trying to get into download mode, possibly have some sticky keys, you can try and clean them up and see if it helps

I get loading cursor for few seconds but nothing more.
EDIT: Im not sure but the loading cursor might be my computer.
Over all I get nothing.
If I plug the phone with the battery into the computer I get 7 vibrations from the phone and an red led light. No reaction from the computer (no new drives found etc).
Sorry to say but I thin its dead, good thing is a new one is cheap nowadays. You could always get a broken one (bad screen and such) and just replace logic boards, probably on ebay for around $50

Do you know what could cause it and what does the vibration code means? Also what should it be doing when I hold down the volume keys and plug it into the computer (without battery)?
Thanks for your help.

This happened to me, I repaired it by cleaning the volume terminals and keyboards. My DZ died on me when I was doing field work and it is hot that day. I guess that some how sweats has sipped its way in the inside of the unit and when it evaporated left the salts causing the keys to short out.

I have an Epic 4G with a power button that will not respond, period. Phone is off and responds to the charger/usb cable being plugged in and all other keys cause the phone to "light up" when charging, but the power button istelf does nothing.
So, assuming the power button was bad, I ordered a new power button assy and installed it. It too will not work. There appears to be no physical damage to any of the ribbon cables, connectors, or boards inside the phone. The phone was Manufactured a month ago, so is fairly new and has gotten little use.
The phone's esn is bad, and my intentions were to flash it to cricket for a customer, so sending it Sprint is abviously not an option. Sending it to Samsung is also not an option since the phone has now been disassembled.
Is there any way to get the phone to "POWER ON" with any other button combination?
I have tried:
Plugging in USB Cable while holding 1 key: Does nothing
Holding VOL-DN + Camera + PWR while pluggin in USB: Does nothing
The phone only responds with the charging indicator (which the battery is now full).
Is there any other way to Force it into Download or Recovery Mode without a working power button?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I know a jig will work for download mode but I'm not too sure about recovery other than using rom manager to boot into recovery.... worst case senerio sell it for parts the screen etc etc.
I remember hearing someone using odin for turning the screen on search about it?
Would be really cool if you could remap the power button to something else but I know certain lockscreen apps or ROMs will allow for phone to be awaken by the camera button.

Hold 1 and then plug the phone in to USB. It will then boot into download mode. For recovery, hold vol down, camera, and then plug into USB.
Edit: just read that didn't work. Try taking out the SD card and battery and letting it sit for 2 hours then try again with the battery and SD out.

I was able to get it to boot up by plugging in the USB cable and unplugging it at the right time. But the phone doesn't respond to the slider, power button, or 2nd "click" of the camera button. However 1st click of the camera button and volume buttons work.
while playing around with it after about 10 mins the display switched itself to landscape mode and the keyboard backlight comes on, as if it has been "slid" open. If I slide it open and closed, it remains in that mode, as if it still thinks its slid open. However not all the keys on the keyboard are responding/working, but most are.

hmm, the problem isn't progressive, so it not getting better or worse. The only thing I can think of is a bad connection or the replacement Chinese cheap ass power button assembly is also bad.
the phone is only a month old.

When you get it to notice the keyboard slid open, pull the battery or turn it off then hold 1 and plug the phone in? That's my guess

I replaced the power button assy with the stock one from samsung knowing the power button is faulty, and got the phone to power back up jigging the usb cable in/out until the samsung logo appeared. The slide open/closed works perfect, and all other buttons and keyboard keys work fine as well (except the power button of course.)
This would leave me to believe the cheap chinese replacement board from ebay is bad to begin with. So ill have to order another one from a different seller/manufacturer.
I had installed the rooted UrbanPrecision X2 Gingerbread EI22 ROM with CWM Recvovery 5 before the power button failed a couple of weeks ago, and its working fine, but Id like to install the stock EC05 GB Rom to it through odin/recovery.
So my next question: Is there a way to emulate the power button with an app or something? Or enter Download/Recovery Mode from an app within the phone without using the power button?
Thanks again.
maybe this?
If worse comes to worse you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274999 which allows access to the most basic parts of the phone from what i understand. The only issue is you would have to use the ressurector every time to boot. also if you get it to boot with out this you can just use adb commands to boot into recovery and download mode if its powered on. The commands are adb reboot recovery, and adb reboot download
Wait that's right there's commands for download mode that you can put into the terminal emulator right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
i dont know how that would work, because they are adb commands, but he could try going into terminal emulator and simply typing reboot recovery or reboot download
Update Good thinking ac16313, just tested it. If he types su to get full system access reboot recovery definitely works( tested). Unfortunately download mode will not work though ( at least on cyanogenmod it just reboots). That would required adb reboot download via computer.
How could the Esn be bad if the phone was manufactured a month ago?

Have you found a solution, will it boot, and do the commands through terminal emulator or adb work?
I just got back from the sprint repair center where thankfully they told me there was an issue with there latest updates for the epic 4g with these symptoms. They downgraded the phone back to EC05 and now i have none of the symptoms anymore! Aside from feeling a bit sheepish for only trying to ODIN back to EL30 i'm very happy about the free fix! Fortunately it's my wife's phone so it's not too big a deal for it to remain downgraded. Hope this info helps somebody else!
Hey,
So I just got this GNex from eBay and it won't boot at all. If I plug it into the wall it will show the battery charging and show it filling up 3 times and then go black. I've tried plugging it into the computer and pulling the battery quickly to get it to boot and nothing. Is there anything I can do to flash/boot into the device or am I stuck relying on the store to do something about it? I've done several searches on the forum and google and I haven't found anything beneficial.
Thanks!
I would say it's dead. Try holding down the power button while holding down the volume up and volume down buttons all at once. If it should vibrate let go of the power button and see if it will enter fast boot. If not send it back.

thats the normal behavior when you plug it in, 3 times filling up then black. then when you press the power button, three times fill up then black. to me it sounds like your power button is broken.
I think power button is broken. Possibly volume keys as well. I'm able to boot if I plug into the PC and then wiggle the battery. There's a lock pattern so I can't get past it but I'm unable to adjust volume or turn the screen off/on. I'm going to bring it to the sprint store tomorrow and say it won't turn on.
Thanks!

Looks like the phone got wet. I can boot it up with the PC as mentioned before but its locked and I don't know the pattern/gmail account. Is there anyway to put a phone into USB debugging without getting into the phone? How about fast boot/recovery/download mode without volume down or power buttons?

Hello,
I'm a new user and this is my first post here. I felt the need to "contribute" with my somewhat of a unique case.
I bought the Xperia SL 48h ago, and managed to "brick" it. The phone just died on me during regular use, I was in astro manager at the moment of the brick, the screen gradually turned off, and the phone became unresponsive soon afterwards. It didn't react when I plugged in the charger or when I connected it to my pc, the LED was dead, power + vol up button combo was also useless, and the pc saw my device as "QHSUSB_DLOAD".
I managed to solve this issue by holding power + vol up button combination for four (4!) minutes. I didn't really have a stopwatch, but I was in the bus on road to the store to return the phone, and just thought I might give persistence and stubbornness a chance. Three bus stops later, the phone vibrates and just turns on normally, like nothing happened.
I don't know how bugs like this occur, nor do I know how to prevent them; I am going to pretend this was just a work of gremlins.
Bottom line - if power on + vol up button combo didn't work for you for a 5 second, 10 second or a 30 second time-span, hold them buttons for a couple of minutes and pray that it works. I hope this helps someone.
Best regards
Did it have enough charge?

Seems your phone got stuck and turned the screen off.
Holding power+volume Up forces it to shutdown without messing with the battery-removal.
So you might have been able to restart it successfully.

The battery was at 14% at the time of power+vol up wake up. I didn't charge it though, I plugged in the charger just to see if there was a LED on, but there wasn't any LED response whatsoever.

That must be it. At the moment of the brick, screen gradually turned off, with darker colors becoming instantly black, and brigther colors getting a yellow tint just before everything vanished from the screen. Thing is though, the phone didn't react to the power+vol up combo right away, but two hours later and almost four minutes of holding the buttons.
One more thing that I noticed was, when the phone was connected to my pc, if I held the power+vol up, the pc would add/remove my hardware in a cycle, or at least play the sound of a device connected/disconnected. The phone still remained dead, but returned later for a miraculous wake up.

I'm not an expert, but this is probably your phone entering fastboot mode and then being disconnected due to incorrect drivers on the PC.
Glad your phone came back though. Comatose phones are terrifying, no?

I'm not out of the woods yet.
Got myself a second brick, and I've been trying to work it out for the past 24+ hours. I won't post about it on this thread, I've posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39847797&postcount=532 , but I will report back with any advancements on the matter.
well...this kinda ruined my night yesterday...I went to a concert yesterday around 8 and my phone had 70% and I was checking facebook or something like that and without no notification or warning it froze and turned off on me. I figured it was a normal freeze..and I attempted to turn it back on and nothing happened. Went to my car to try to charge it and nothing. Not even a charging light. A day has passed after the concert was over (could not take pictures, thanks htc..) and now the "dead battery symbol" comes up and the orange light keeps BLINKING..to my understanding it means that it is not charging? What could it be..anybody could help me out .maybe a soft reset? no charging it for a couple of minutes?
Anything would help. Thanks
Try pressing and holding power and volume up?
I'm sure you've already tried that, but can you confirm that you have left it plugged in atleast for 5 hours continuously after this happened.

And hold the power and volume buttons down in a well lit environment, there's a "pocket check".
You can also try by hold the power and volume buttons UP
Thanks for the replies , i have tried those opctions. Holding the power and volume UP and thencanother try wih the DOWN the with both. It just blinks orange now. I just woke up and plugged it in again, am going to work and going to leave it like that, hopefully that does the trick. Should i call htc ? It hasnt even been a month since the phones came out.. I did not do anything to "kill" the battery
Ofcourse you may call Htc.
the same happened to me now.did u find a solution?????

Well only thing I can suggest is you leave it on charge over night. Then try & power it on if no go try and hold the volume up and power button while plugged in for at least a minute if that Dosent work take it back where you got it from.

Unplug phone. Hold vol up and power for 10 seconds, let go, try to power on phone.
Hi, was wondering if anyone else has/had similar issues?
Got the Galaxy Tab S today and was spending time setting it up. Connected to the PC and charge was at about 57%. Suddenly the window displaying tablet contents on the PC disappeared and the screen went black.
The power button didn't turn the screen back on. I held it down, thinking that it required a hard reset but nothing happened. I disconnected the tablet from my pc and went to use it's dedicated charger. The battery icon came up, stating it was 57% charge, and shortly after the LED light on the back of the tablet started flashing rapidly. I quickly took out the cable.
I've tried holding down the home key, volume down, and power button and nothing happens. I then tried the same and having a finger on the screen. Then I repeated the process again with the cable connected to the charger, and then computer.
No matter what I try, the device won't turn on and the LED keeps flashing repeatedly when connected with usb charging cable. I also tried using another cable.
I'm thinking of phoning up where I got it from tomorrow and asking for a replacement, unless there's something I'm missing here?
Any thoughts would be great, thanks.
My guess would be, you are not pressing the buttons correctly.

That doesn't work either. The only response I get from the tablet is by plugging in the charging cable and then it goes on to display an epileptic inducing light show with the LED constantly flashing on and off

Never seen this problem before. Could be a bad partition making it not boot. Replacement may be your answer as its better to get a new one and be safe.

I've used various tablets before and never encountered any of them not booting at all. The led flashing business is very weird. I'll phone up the store I got it from and ask if I can get a replacement.
Thanks for the responses
