I have a question regarding my battery life. Yesterday night at 10:00 pm i played +/- 40 minutes on games like Angry Birds and used my 3G connection for about 10 minutes. My battery dropped from 100% to 61%. When i didnt use my phone (just idle mode) @ 11:46 pm i wanted to check how much battery i had left today in the morning (10:00 am) ..... it whas completely dead 0% .... i have this phone since august but if i knew the battery life whas so crap i would have picked another device.
Is there a way to improve it ??? since i read in diffrent topics people can use their desire for 2 days without a recharge.
- Not rooted
- Froyo 2.2
The HTC Desire is a smartphone running powerful mobile OS and a lot of additional gadgets like GPS, ...
So comparing battery life is impossible.
You can get a battery life of a mobile phone/week if you use it like a mobile phone: No GPS, no data, no playing games, no surfing, just occasional talking. So the battery life is normal and good, compared to mobile phones.
But normally you use it like a smartphone, thus you use it daily, play some games, ... which results in a battery life of a few hours (navigation) up to two or three days (moderate use), with an average battery life of a day (heavy use).
However, one thing for sure: Something is wrong with your phone.
This dosen't mean something is broken, rather you use an app/setting, which causes the battery drain, so you did something wrong, you're the failure, not the device!
Playing a game drains the battery fast. The display is on, probably max. brightness and the CPU and GPU is working like hell. It also gets warm, so you can feel the increased power consumption.
In sleep mode however, it should consume much less than it did for you. Maybe 2% each hour.
So to find what app you've installed or what app you keep in the background running, install a program like Android System Info and take a look at the task list, CPU load should be around 10% if you wait a few seconds and do nothing.
Take a look at the running services (android settings, applications, ...) and check if you really need all of them or if an app is active which you don't use. Then don't force close it, only idiots do this, rather open the app and deactivate the service (like automatic updating)
Next option: Test the battery life again. Maybe an app crashed and caused the increased power draw and now everything is working fine again and battery life is normal again. Then it's impossible to find a culprit with Android System Info.
Also tell us what settings you've activated: GPS/Wifi/Data/BT/...
This is happening because, some process not letting your device to sleep..!!
All you need to do is type *#*#4636#*#*
and check the battery history ,you'll get to know which process is using your battery, and remove that application.

Thanks will check it out and see what it does now in idle mode.
Idle mode 01:28 pm starts now, will post results in a few hours.
Edit: It's 02:00 pm here and i already lost 4% battery, its 96% now , i did *#*#4636#*#* and checked battery status and it seems wifi is in full use 99.7%. I will turn this off but what about the 3G connection
Edit2: It's 2:24 pm here and the battery status is 92% now, i reveived +/- 4 emails in that time. I checked the status in battery indicator pro and this is what it says
Android system 37%
Mobile Stand-by 22%
Phone inactive 15%
Wi-Fi 15%
view 11%
nothing else......i am really lost now.
Is my battery damaged/broken ? .... how can i reset/callibrate the battery ? or should i contact the shop where i got this phone from for a new battery ?
don't worry, lots of people are having bad battery lifes, and angry bird drain your battery really quickly, so it is quite normal, especially on AMOLED desires.

Yeah i have AMOLED
PS: After 30 minutes without touching it the battery is still 92%.
you could install setcpu and set profiles to save battry life
Might try that.....but after 1 hour the battery is still 92%.....i guess wifi drained my stuff down all the way as i am pretty sure i turned that thing of last time.
i will do some more tests later....
Edit: After 1 and half hour the battery is still 92%, guess the stock rom isnt that bad .

Tested the battery last night and must say i am happy with the results
10:00 pm yesterday the battery whas 60%, today i looked back @ 11:24 am and the battery just dropped with 10% (3G is on), i didn't touch the phone since then.
Stock Rom / Froyo 2.2
The battery drain came from wifi
I wrote HTC about the battery and they just sent me a brand new one So now I have 2 batteries and I think I'm happy DD
You can check your battery usage with a widget called "currentwidget" (search for it on this forum)
Usually on SBY with radio ON my phone drains from 3 to 4 Ma and 2ma in plane mode. (sounds good with a 1400mah battery)
In heavy usage, it can go anything from 150 to 500ma (ie: playing game with wifi ON)!!
For nice graphics, try to install "battery snap" too.
From HTC themself:
“To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well“

A known problem with the new update of the HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo is battery life. How users have experienced the change is highly variable. Several said that battery life has improved, some even talk about a major improvement. The others have had problems that the phone charges from a fully charged battery several times in one day. If you have experienced such problems, there are measures, some simple, others more complicated and time consuming. Below I list things you can try, the lightest at the top.
# 1 Look what it's drawing power. Go to Settings> About phone> Battery> Battery usage or enter * # * # 4636 # * # * on the keypad and look around a bit. Is there anything that seems abnormal, or any program that seems to be the culprit, uninstall simply the application and see if that helps. While you can uninstall applications you believe is in the background and drag the cream from the phone's battery. Some applications may slip into the "Android System" in your battery history.
# 2 Uninstall system control and task killers. Advanced Task Killer and similar programs do more harm than they help. It is unfortunately only to realize this and stop using them. Android is an OS made for having many applications driving on the background. The operating system puts himself applications you do not use the idle to conserve battery power. Different programs that measure your performance on the phone, for example, Task Panel never sets in idle and therefore system resources continuously. If you have such software installed it may be time to consider uninstalling it. More on why the task killers and Android do not go hand in hand in to read this article by Android developer Dianne Hack Born.
# 3 Clean your home screen. It can be a good idea to try if it helps to clean up your Home screens from various widgets.
# 4 Do a soft reset. Discharge the battery completely (not that the phone is turned off), turn off the phone manually, remove the battery and reinsert it, restart your phone and put it on charge. This may have some effect and provide an improved battery life. Such a restoration known as a soft reset and should be tested before you do a master reset (hard reset).
# 5 Do a "hard reset". Have you done all the methods above are still not noticed any major difference? Then it's time to do a master reset of the OS. HTC have said they for some users might went wrong during the update to Froyo causing poor battery life, and when it is easiest to do a reset to get to grips with the problem. Although Android automatically sync contacts in the "cloud" so it might be a good idea to make a backup of your contacts (Contacts> Menu> Import / Export). Note that when you do a hard reset resets the entire phone, including messages, settings, themes, installed applications, etc. These are not the contents of your SD card. There are two methods to restore your phone, do a google search on "hard reset desire," so there are many simple guides. After restoration, the idea not to install any applications you had installed before. Install the programs one at a time and not too many at once.

my battery drains like a bugatti veyron doing 252mph constantly
so what would you advise . is the kernal i have now the best or should i change .. i dont want to reall lose much performance on what i have now but would like the battery to maybe improve if possible ...
from full charge taking plug out searching market for 2 mins the battery drains 5-8% in matter of mins
and i have only had the phone a week
With that kind of drains the problems the kernel won't change that much. There is probably a app that causes the battery drain so looking in to that will have more effect. Also the brightness/screen on is the biggest drain and kernel won't do much about that.
You said that you have the phone a week, the battery needs some time to reach it's full potential and you probably use the phone a lot because it's new. So use the phone normally for another week, after that week let the phone drain until it shuts itself off, leaf it off and charge it till it's full. (there is a different calibration method but this always worked for me)
What do you have now? Stock or rooted?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
First of all, I would assume that you don't use the phone non-stop (it would be justified to lose power in a few hours if you're on it non-stop).
I recently had issues with power consumption as well. What I did was:
1) check the built in battery monitor: menu-settings-about phone-battery-battery use. The bad thing about this monitor is that it does not differentiate well the apps consuming power, but you can still see if there's something wrong, as the most consumption should come normally from the screen and voice calls. For me, the most consumption was made by com.htc.bg, which, if I let the monitor on for a few seconds, would transform in the calendar app. Weird stuff. I unchecked the calednar auto sync from menu-settings-accounts and sync. It may have slowed the power loss down, but not significantly. I noticed a significant loss of battery by WiFi. I realized, I needed more information so:
2) I installed an app called 'Power Tutor'. What it does is, it calculates which apps consumes power, and it shows you in percentages. After install, you need to start the 'power profiler'. It will appear in your notification bar. If you let it run, after a few hours, you can see in "view application power usage" who is using power. That's how I discovered that my winamp app was really off the charts using power like crazy. So I went in the winamp settings, and I unchecked some options that could have determined this power consumption, like wireless sync, automatic mount as USB drive, etc. There was actually an option that was overriding the wifi power management, stating that the wifi does not stop after 180 seconds of standby. Basically, if you have wifi on, and you stop using the phone for 3 minutes, the phone automatically turns off the wifi. This was not happening any more, due to winamp. So I unchecked all those options, and voila. It worked, I have now normal battery life.
Good luck!
be aware of a couple of things
1. battery drain for the 1st few weeks are high because of a couple of factors, the battery "learns" and gets conditioned over a period of time (doesnt use the old 16hr charge process). its a new device for you so its a novelty, you probably mess about with it with the screen on more than you think.
2. there is a configuration within HTC's builds and in the memory chip of the battery to stop over charging. the device will charge to 100 and then slowly deplete to 90% while still saying full on the phone. as soon as you disconnect it recalibrates to the correct value which is anywhere between 90% and 100% depending at which part of the cycle you catch it
Some other tips to increase battery life, from a friend of mine in the Romanian forum:
1) use the app watchdog, it will warn you when an app is using too much of the processor and will ask you if you want to close it.
2) juice defender with the paid add-on 'ultimate juice' - with the correct settings... it's amazing.
3) Dial *#*#4636#*#* - phone information-network type: select gsm auto prl. The phone will stay on 3G when it has good signal, and switch to 2G when it doesnt, saving battery
4) Change the wallpaper to a static one, not a live one.
5) Go to menu-settings-accounts and sync and increase sync intervals for weather, news, or even set them to sync manually when you choose.
i will try and answer everything at once ..
ok my screen is on 13% brightness
i hardly ever use my phone , the only real use was to root , s-off, put ROM ETC ON
I reply to about 50 texts ish per day and search the market for literally 1-2 mins to see what new apps are in
i dont play games or anything
the thing the battery uses most is the screen and as i say i have it on monochrome theme with 13% brightness, there is nothing synced , i check automatically for email etc .. actually beautiful widgets is set to auto update every 4 hours
i never use wifi as i have a 3gb download/data usage, i dont use gps ...well i do but i have had no need to .. thats about all i can tell ya
rastaman the pt2 is a bit weird it should stay at 100 if just taken out of charge
I calibrated the battery and that made no difference.

I open this thread to help the users having bad battery life and find out the possible resolutions. Whenever you see the bad battery life, in most of the cases it would be caused by some specific apps or the way you are using the phone and it's not from the ROM itself.
As you may know, I'm working on Kobridge Tweaks and trying to improve the performance and battery life but there're lots of variances that we still don't know and have to know.
So, let's work together to find out the better solutions!
In here, please share your screenshots and your settings. But, don't post with just simple words - it's good or it's bad. We need the following information when you post;

Kobridge - General Settings to extend the battery life
General Settings or Configuration to extend battery life
This is an initial edition. I'm going to update and add more information here.
Original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625299
I've worked on this part so long time since I've started using ICS ROM. I also tried almost every battery saver apps but didn't get any better result using my own method because sometimes there are lots of overheads using it (I'm trying to avoid describing any individual app's pros and cons in here and just provide you the better way to configure your phone).
The information in here is based on FF18 rooted stock rom/modem/kernel. But it's not limited to any specific phone or build. You could probably use it in any phones or builds.
1. Wifi
Some of you understand that wifi is faster than 3G and use less battery than 3G. You also say that 4G is the biggest monster consuming lots of battery. But that would be true and false.
Sometimes, wifi uses lots of battery to get the faster speed and keep the connection.
There could be multiple scenarios in here and below is based on my test -
Original post can be found in here
WIFI - I always turned on at home (because wifi is available) with 'never' option. In this case, 3G will cover the data communication if 3g turned on during the deep sleep. If wifi signal is so strong, even you don't need to turn on 3G and use the wifi during the sleep mode by changing the wifi option.
If you don't need the data communication during sleep mode, then turn off 3G and make wifi sleep (never) during the sleep mode. With this option, your battery could last about 2 hours per 1% drop.
3G - you need to compare between 3G and wifi. Which one is better and use less battery based on the signal strength.
For me, I'm using both 3G and wifi turned on. Using these two options turned on, I make the data communication available always and these two are compromising each other.
OK, here are some screenshots from 3.4M (check the original post link above). From 100% to 65%, I turned on 3G, so it covers the wifi when wifi sleeps during the deep sleep. From 65% to 45%, I turned off 3G, so during the deep sleep, both wifi and 3G were not available. When screen turned on wifi only came back (if you are not a heavy user, this method will save lots of battery).
Based on what I said, I've tested couple of things-
1. Battery life when wifi turned on 24x7
2. Battery life when 3G turned on 24x7
1. When wifi turned on 24x7 (turned on even screen is off), my phone shows that there were about 2.5% drop in every hour (100% > 73% about in 9.5 hours)
2. Wehn 3G turned on 24x7 (no wifi, no 4G), the battery consumption was much slower than wifi. (73% > 62% about in 14 hours). A little more than 1 hour per 1% drop.
Based on my test with minimum wifi, 3G usage, it shows that 3G saves a lot more battery during the standby mode. This result could be different based on your area and signal strength.
Now I showed many things related to wifi, 3G and how it affects the battery life.
Only one thing that I did not test is 4G. It's really hard to make a test using 4G inside of my office because I don't have 4G signal at all. What I can try is, 4G random reboot issue. I'll try to turn on 4G and see if it happens....
2. 3G
Keeping 3G turned on is a good habit. Because it covers wifi and 4G whenever those are not available. 3G uses battery a lot less than wifi and 4G (it could be different based on your signal strength)
Howto keep it on: setting -> more -> mobile networks -> check 3G DATA
Like I said before, if you have a reasonably good 3G signal, then you may want to turn off wifi and 4G to save the battery.
3. 4G
Just like wifi, minimize turning on 4G network. This use a lot of battery if you are in the bad reception area. If the signal strength is really good, then it would be probably ok keeping 4G turned on. In some cases, 4G would be the only solution to watch the movies, streaming videos when the wifi is not available.
Based on my limited test, using 4G in good reception area is much better than using wifi with low/weak signal.
4. Call option
Mark checkbox for Turn on proximity sensor for your convenience even there would be a little battery drain. But if you are a heavy talker, then I recommend to uncheck this option and use the power button to go back to control mode.
5. Sound
Lower the sound/vibration level within the acceptable range for you. There would be some differences on battery behavior by turning off or on of sound/vibration. But I don't want to recommend anything in here because I don't want you to lose any incoming calls/messages/etc.
6. Display
Automatic brightness should be fine in most cases. It's really related to screen on time battery consumption. I don't want to deal with this option at this time.
Pulse notification light, display battery percentage - turn it on or off based on your preference. Battery consumption by turning on these options would be minimal. I saw that some people said that they recommend to turning off the 'pulse notification light'. But I don't agree with that. One blinking LED light almost does not use any battery!
display timeout - I set it with highest value provided. After using the phone, I manually press the power button to go to sleep mode. With short timeout value, I have to keep press the button or screen to keep the screen on. I don't like this method.
Turn on 'Auto adjust screen power'.
7. Power saving mode
I always keep this option off because I do not want to lose anything because of low battery. I would rather change the numbers in my tweak (battery profile 2 in scaling tweak).
8. Account and sync
Most of time, I keep this option turned off. This would be one of the battery eating monster. I would rather individually sync the apps whenever I need it or from the actual apps.
9. Battery
when you charge the battery and phone shows that 100% charged, unplug the cable few seconds and plug-in again to charger. Repeat this couple of times and your battery would be really fully charged. Many times, even phone shows 100% charged, it could be the minimum 100% range. Actually, there's some voltage allowed and considered as 100% charge. But by maximizing the voltage during the charge, your battery life could be extended.
10. Motion
Turn off this option if you don't need this.
11. email
If possible, turn off the option that pushing email immediately. Instead, put the retrieval interval as long as you can. Based on my test, it could extend your battery life as maximum as couple of hours. In my case, I put the 2 hours interval. By doing this, your phone is much easier to enter the 'deep sleep' mode.
12. Startups
For me, I don't allow the apps automatically start during the boot as much as possible. If it's the system app and critical app for the phone's normal operation, then you have to allow those startups but otherwise, you can disable the startup apps based on your test.
For this, I usually use Rom Toolbox and/or System Tuner Pro. These apps allow us to enable or disable the startup apps.
For any apps like I don't use frequently or at all, I disable the apps from the 'event' (rom toolbox) or startups (system tuner pro). Once you disable the startups, you may need some test to see what happens when you manually launch the apps. If your app does not start normally, then go back and enable the event again.
There's also one more battery eating moster - widgets (currently doing some experimental test on it)
Regardless of widgets are in foreground screen or just stays in widgets folder, almost same amount of battery could be used by widgets to make it upto dated and refresh the connections, etc.
So, if you don't need the widget or don't use, go to (from Rom Toolbox) Auto Start Manager -> Applications -> select app you want to check -> it will show that widget updating is enabled or not. If it's enabled and you don't want it, just disable it. Then the app is not going to use that specific widget and actually widget will disappear from widgets folder.

It's not that the blink uses battery, it's that the blink causes your phone to wake up from its Deep Sleep and use the 200 MHz state of your processor. This wakelock takes away battery.
Thanks for the guide though. Looking forward to getting better battery life. I'm currently on CM9 though so I can't use your tweaks Just waiting for an AOKP build that switches /emmc and /sdcard back around to the way it should be

I have AT&T LTE version on rooted 4.1.2 with Greenify and I'm about the same, 5 hours of screen time with data off. It's not great battery life, but not sure that I can do much to improve it.
so do you think thats normal battery life but some say to get 8 hours surfing web on wifi

My device is new and I've tried breaking in the battery. Rooted it and froze any potential battery killing apps. Use it on low screen brightness. Getting 5-6 hours screen time. I have to believe that its normal, but I can't say 100% for sure.
I believe the Note 8 with LTE tends to drain battery faster because of radio feature. I have a Verizon Galaxy 7.7 that also drains battery faster than the non-LTE version.
My Galaxy Note 8 (non-LTE) gives about 9 hours with wifi on and 40% brightness. However the tablet is non-rooted (if that matters).

Yes, data over a cell network uses more power than over WiFi.

There is no such thing as "breaking in the battery" for this type of battery. Li ion batteries do not need to be conditioned like the old NiCad type batteries.
All I would recommend on a new device, is to calibrate the battery meter on the phone itself: charge to full, leave it on the charger to ensure any top-off charge is achieved (maybe 30 min or more after "full" is indicated). Than drain to 10 or 20%. This sets the "high" and "low" flags for the battery meter, so the meter is more accurate. But it doesn't change your actual battery life (just like fiddling with a car's gas gauge doesn't mean there is magically more gas in the tank).
After calibrating the meter, the best thing for battery life on a Li ion battery, is frequent short charges, as opposed to full discharge cycles.
Same Issue
Same problem here. I have 9 month old Note 8.0 wifi only. Battery life has always been atrocious. Drains 1% every 1-2 minutes of basic use By basic use, I mean internet browsing, 20% screen brightness, no other apps open, all major tasks killed. This is absolutely pathetic for a $400 tablet. If I play any sort of game, such as Candy Crush, we're talking 1% every minute. I've never gotten through an entire movie.
I finally got so fed up that I sent it in to Samsung for service. I haven't gotten it back yet, but I received an email back saying the repair was a "software upgrade." I find that hard to believe. I will post again with the results after I get the device back. My satisfaction with the Note 8 is a 1 out of 10. I wish I would have gotten an Ipad mini or Google Nexus.
I find it unusual that some of you guys have abysmal battery life. On my Note 8 I get amazing battery life, with average to heavy usage I don't have to charge it for a couple days.
I also only got it a couple weeks ago; maybe Samsung changed something inside the Note 8 since the release earlier this year?
I have a Note 8.0 WIFI that was made as an early release US model.
Like any Phone... Apps, GPS, WIFI, SD card, and Screen brightness all are factors in power drain.
I try to stay away from apps that have ads built in. Even small tickler or banner ads can cause battery drain and privacy issues.
Even though you may not see the GPS indicator being active, apps will poll GPS time to time.
In testing some apps, I found that most banking apps are too taxing on my device. Believe it or not Paypal, and Chase are real buggers to your privacy and consume more than what their apps are worth.
Bone stock with no SD card, the device consumed a lot of battery power between the first few power cycles.
I figured there must be a lot of services running in background to optimize and finish configuration of the OS.
Once that settled charging and running on battery smoothed out.
I am able to get 10% drain per hour on normal operation. WIFI always enabled, SD card installed, and lots n lots of apps installed as well.
Just surfing with power saving enabled, LEDs on, Eye watch activated, SD card installed, GPS enabled, and brightness on auto at +3, I can get about 5% battery drain every 40 to 45 minutes.
As for videos using internal speakers, I get 10% drain every 25 minutes... As the display brightness increases and speakers are at 3 with full Viper optimization.
To me being the slimmest and lightest 8 inch device, it gets pretty good battery time. One thing to note, if you feel the left side getting warm... it means you consuming power and to expect the battery to be consumed much faster.

Hi,
I have N5100 too bought from indiatimes.
Here is what I did to get better battery life out of my note 8.0
1) Go to Settings -> Developer options - > use 2 background processes
2) Do not put Auto brightness, Set the brightness to 20% it will be still be good enough
3) backup and reset - > uncheck everything
4) Google account - > put sync on first in the notification bar and then go to your google accounts and uncheck everything, then disable the "auto sync" from the notification bar
5) Sound - haptic feedback off , vibration , move everything to minimum ..
6) GPS - off , use only when required
7) Developers options - > unknown sources (check only when you need , otherwise uncheck it ) , verify apps - uncheck it
8) Open Google maps, go to settings , uncheck the location services
9) go to youtube app - go to settings - uncheck anything that has syncing options
10) Screen time out 30 seconds
11) Since you said you mentioned that you are using Greenify . I am assuming you are rooted. So you can greenify almost all apps except the launcher and the ones which you use frequently.
12) you can use Rom tool box pro or root cleaner to freeze ( maps , google contact sync, bookmark sync, yahoo finance, hangouts (if you dont use ) , kies , talkback, chrome, google play music , google + , alarm , drm , samsung account , samsung push , samsung print , weather widget, sns, fw upgrade , yahoo news
13) use system control pro app where you can set the governor to pegausq min 200 Mhz, and max 1600 Mhz
14) Go to settings - more settings - Mobile networks - use GSM mode , dont use both WCDMA/GSM
15) Go to google play - > settings - > uncheck auto update apps and also notifications ,,
16) Go to all the google apps and check for any settings that use frequent checking.
17) Use UC browser it is really good for browsing and many options.
18) When charging the Note 8.0 charge it from 0 to 100 in one stretch and dont connect to charger unless it drops below 3%. If it is getting switched off by itself no problem.
19) Go to settings - > Date and Time - > Uncheck everything
20) Go to Settings - > S pen - > Check the option - > Disabling pen detection when pen is attached can extend battery life.
Clear everything in memory in RAM before you leave the note idle.
Before you can do all this. It is better you install the right firmware.
For me XCMH2 gave good battery life. Now X note build. Below is the link to that thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345299
Wipe data , wipe cache , wipe dalvic cache , do it two times in that order.
then you flash the X note build and go through all those steps.
If you do it right I am sure you will not have many wakelocks and you will get better screen on time than 5 hours.
when I did all this the highest I got was 9 hours 26 minutes (7 days).. few months. On an average I was getting 8 and half hours..screen on time with 6 days battery life .. Max standy I got was 15 days battery life with 7 and half screen on .time ..
Your note has to sleep when you are not using. then you can get good standby time and also good screen on time.
) Note 8.0 is really an awesome device. Enjoy!

Woah! That is way too many things to adjust... Get greenify app, and startup manager app... and be done with it. I get 8% an hour and 12% an hour with miracast movies to my tv. Having sync on... to go and do sync settings manually is a time consumer... just turn off sync at the quick buttons. Make sure blue tooth and Sat are off. Brightness is manual setup to be be bright enough to give good detail and whites on movies. I leave it alone so it is never an issue on adjusting for most lighting conditions.
I added a simple tool to give wifi data speeds... so I can see how often high rates of data are downloaded. Most of the time small packets of data are always being sent for network discovery and authorization, along with apps like email and what not.

Gosh, I have been posting bits here and there, and nobody cares until now. HA!
OK, I will do a simple rundown.
OEM or stock firmware only.
Saferoot
Xposed framework
Wanam Xposed
Startup Manager for Xposed
Greenify Plus for Xposed.
Geenify
Security 360 Antivirus (Very robust app for its size, like having 5 apps in one)
Trickster Mod Pro
RootCloak and Substrate (Non-Xposed version)
Now that I have the main components listed, what to do.
Turn off in Application Manager... Will require swiping all the way to All.
Google Play Music - If updated you will need to uninstall before turning off.
Google Contacts Sync
Briefing
Clock (digital)
Favorite Apps
Flipboard
World Clock
Yahoo! Finance
Yahoo! News
In Greenify, tap on menu. I have added an Xposed module to make all apps have a three dot or line menu, so you may not see the menu without it, as I have no clue to what any app looks like without the xposed module running. There should be an option to create a shortcut. It will place an automated greenify all launcher. It will greenify any app that can be put to sleep. In settings you can do experimental options to greenify.
Both greenify and security 360 have a sleep or end function, they work together at eliminating apps from running in background and memory starvation.
If you find an app that is always running after boot up that you may not be able to manage in either app, Startup Manager in Xposed may offer a startup disable for the app, though not all apps are covered in the list. It is fairly simple just tap on the app and once it is highlighted it will not start during startup.
Security 360 will allow further actions, though it has an easier interface than greenify. You can add both user apps and system apps to the ignore list or remove them as well.
I would be very careful on removing system apps from the default list.
With all that set I keep everything setup automated... email, wifi, and syncing.
Though I keep my google account setup to not do much but sync calender for syncing Samsung calender simultaneously.
Once you kill all the google automation in your online google account... you may remove Google +, as I never liked it and don't use it, the options on your tablet will be in effect, so make sure what settings you have on your tablet are what you want before making online changes.
I left Samsung account active so I can get automated updates. With everything else pretty much running nicely without any glitches.
I have my powersaver setup with everything enabled, and no automatic dimming. Pretty much like the previous poster I commented on. 20% is more than enough for my viewing conditions.
With my settings the way they are, I use the tablet without thinking of turning this or that on unless I am using miracast or file sharing.
PS... I have GPS on for apps that require it. Even though it is enabled, it is off until I start an app that needs GPS location info. It seems only 4 apps that I use pull from GPS. Google Maps, HD widgets,YP, and a Navi app. I have disabled internet location settings, as they are unimportant. Knowing which apps will pull location info during use makes it easier to control location than expecting games and browsers tell me what they are doing.

Glad to know your battery life improved and you can try for even better screen on time and also in terms of days. I have put up some screen shots for your reference in the attachment. Please check.
I forgot few tips there
Converting Google play services,
Google Bookmark Sync,
Google Contact Sync,
Google Calendar sync
Google Chrome
to user app (they are system apps)
but not to worry, you can convert them to user apps.
what you can do is
1) Uninstall Google play services and Google chrome that came installed with the firmware
2) Install Google play services and Google chrome from aptoide.apk app , convert it to user app (in case if it is showing in system app)
How to convert Google play services to to user app?
If you have ROM toolbox pro latest version 5.9.5 or 6.0.3 you can open app manager in that , then just do a single click you will have bunch of options, swipe your screen to right then you will see more options where you can see below there will be option , convert to user app
3) Xposed frame work (latest version)
4) download and install call recording mod (if you need, its worth)
5) download and install greenify and check the option in xposed frame work (activate it)
6) Install Android firewall
once you convert all of those system apps to user apps, freeze them.
Google play services - dont freeze. freeze the rest ..
Max battery life achieved on my Note in terms of days was 15 days but i lost the screenshot , my second highest was 11days and odd..
Note:- I don't use power saving, flight mode , no battery doctor , no wake lock detector.. I use ONLY greenify with Xposed framework and I freeze the battery sapping apps.
Before turning off the screen, I make sure I have closed all apps from recent apps and then clear some ram from task manager just to ensure there are no wakelocks.
So far it worked out wonders and my battery life is excellent and very happy with my Note 8.0 after 11 months of usage.
Battery drain is 1% or may be 2% in 10 hours standby .. and that helps in prolonging battery longevity over 4 days , 7 days , 10days or even 15 days.. If you have battery drain overnight then your Note will come for 1 or 2 days but by curbing the battery drain over night you can get it running for 4 to 7 days easily with excellent screen on time.
I am currently on firmware X-Note 5.1 4.2.2 and use my Note for watching Videos, Songs, games, reading Flipboard, Google play stand, S-Note, PDF reader , editor ,
I got screen on time of 11hrs 12min in 4days 20h..., previous highest screen on time was 11hr 6m, and before that 9hrs 26min (stock firmware)
XDA developers is great forum, after going through lot of posts by developers these are the tips that worked wonders. converting system apps to user app was something I found out from other developers in XDA , i was hesitant at first but when I did it eventually I was extremely satisfied and you can see the results.
I hope you can get ever better results..
the fastest my note 8 drainning only in 30 minutes screen on
Drainning very fast ... with 100% brightness and disable power saving mode
Playing clash of clans and clash of lords 2
Bad battery life
As above, in recent days, for no apparent reason I am getting a bad battery drain. After using GSam battery monitor & the in built battery stats, Android System is responsible for 33% battery drain!!!
Any fix or solution? I am rooted with recovery on 8.8.30 MIUI 10.
I do not wish to wipe or flash as my device is perfect in every way, only a battery drain from Android System.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Me too, always awake it never goes into deep sleep
The same thing happened to me and with the Gsam Battery I verified that I had in a short time thousands of calls to the LocationManagerService. After trying and testing I think that the time widgets that I installed (HD Widgets, Xperia Clock, ..) are due. I have taken them out and now my battery consumption is normal. Anyway, this must be a Miui bug. I spent as much with xiaomi.eu as with Revolution OS.
^ Thank you so much guys for the response, but this is so strange because it only started to happen many weeks after using the rom. It was fine as normal then suddenly this battery drain issue started.
Even tried battery hibernation apps/greenify, now difference.
Previously, I used to get 11-12 hours SOT, now only 7 max. Really disappointed...
After prolonged trial and error plus googling. I managed to finally fix my MIUI10 battery drain.
1. Under Settings>Battery & Performance, disable ALL smart scenes.
REASON: smart scene detection causes wakelocks. A MIUI10 bug.
2. Under Settings>My Device>All Specs, click Total Storage 5-6 times to get into Phone Info Testing menu. For both Phone Information1 and 2, set to your local band. Xiaomi.eu uses LTE/UMTS auto (PRL), while some users recommend LTE/WCDMA. [This setting persists until next reboot/airplane mode/network change, then you'll have to set it again. Leave default setting when roaming]
REASON: Default setting enables TD-SCDMA band scanning, which is only used exclusively in China. When disabled, will save some juice as network signal strength fluctuates.
3. Of course check Battery Use of your apps to make sure no rouge apps are keeping your phone awake in the background. Consider adjusting (a) Start in Background Permission, (b) Autostart Permission, (c) locked apps, (d) app battery saver status, and (e) toggle Developer Options>Inactive Apps

I wasn't able to find any setting called Scenes or Scenarios (saw that name used in another thread) on MIUI 10.3.2.0 global stable. When I open the Battery & Performance menu all I get is Battery Optimization, Power Usage, User Adaptive Battery, Choose Apps (for app battery saver), and Extreme Battery Saver. I also searched for them using the search function. Is this available on all MIUI versions?

There is no Settings cog in Battery & Performance. If I go further into Battery Optimization there is one but it also doesn't have a Scenarios option
