I have atleast 30 wifi passwords onboard, and I have the stock ROM upgraded to max, without an unlocked bootloader.I want to put a custom ROM, but it requires an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery too.So, if I unlock the bootloader, will Google restore my passwords to my device? On dashboard these backup stuff are shown:

If you have checked the 2 options in settings/privacy,i.e,'backup my settings' and entered your backup account, yes the passwords will be restored.
When you boot the first time after unlocking the bootloader,it will ask you to setup the phone. In that setup, you will have to create a google account(that one which you backed up your settings to before unlocking).then it will ask whether you want to keep your phone backed up with this account.check all that and after the setup the restore will be finished!
But,keep just before unlocking, sync the account once.and then after unlocking,do it again.
Yes, those options are checked, otherwise no data would've been backed up at all. Thanks for the confirmation, I wasn't too sure about whether the setup would start again. After I unlock the bootloader, is there anyway to root it without flashing superboot? Can I just push a SuperSU zip in there with TWRP?

That's a question I have wondered about.try flashing it,no harm in flashing, but first make a backup using recovery.
Well, the perm root option in hasoon's toolkit includes supersu, and I don't see superboot anywhere in there, but yeah, better safe than sorry. Thanks again, I wanted to flash PA/CM, but I would lose all of the passwords. Thanks for your help again

No!the passwords are backed up.nothing to worry.unlock the boot and the passwords will be restored!that's what I explained in the 1st reply.
Well, I flashed PA, and most interestingly, it didn't offer me to restore data that was backed up on my google account when I did unlock it, but it offered that option whilst in the PA setup.Either way, thanks for helping me out.

Hey guys, I've run into a bit of a mess here. Earlier I installed a mod and suddenly I lost network connection and it turned out my IMEI number had been changed to 00xxxxxxxxxxx( x =random numbers). So i tried different ways to restore or edit the IMEI but didn't get much luck. Anyways long story short i had a backup (efsbackup.tar.gz) that I had created a while back and even after going through Google it was proving to be difficult to restore it. So like a noob I extracted all the files that were in this backup file into the root folder EFS. I know it was probably a stupid move but i was desperate to use my phone to make calls and receive SMS. I saw that the files looked the same and went down that path. Now my imei was restored along with network connections except for this new problem that won't go away as you can see in the screenshot. If I hold the power Button it switches off without giving me options. Other than that I tried getting into the FACTORYAPP folder and setting factory mode to off but it remains persistent. I'd really appreciate any help.

Sorry I can't seem to upload the screenshot but basically it's a transparent box in front of the homescreen(touchwiz) and it has details highlighted in yellow such as PDA:, Phone, and CSC, H/W, RF Cal Date, SMd, and Rear cam, TSP, TSK, etc. It only remains persistent in the homescreen otherwise not present when I open any other app.

like this? if yes, likely EFS issue. Don't forget to keep your EFS safe.
first make factory reset and try flashing stock ROM, if issue persist then restore EFS with application/mod you took backup.

Yes that's exactly what it is., problem is I don't remember what I used to create that backup as it was a while back. I use TWRP as a recovery but there's no option to choose the back file I mentioned above. Any suggestions what app could create that backup?

try flashing philz recovery and restore from that.
before doing it try flashing stock ROM and then factory reset.
I tried flashing stock Rom through Odin but no luck. I got the stock Rom on but this issue still pops up. Anyone got anymore ideas? I tried using toolkit for note 2 and restored efs file that I had but still the same.

I just attempted to flash my Note 2, and install Jellbomb w/ Aroma. All went well, with status code of 0, but when I restarted my device, I got the following screen:
Encryption Failed
Unable to complete encryption due to interruption. Perform factory data reset (erasing all your data) before use. After resetting, try encrypting device again.

Edit: I am now aware that this occurs of what ROM I install. *Got the same problem, after installing LabRats 1.0.
I am able to wipe the device, but this does not help. I get the same message on boot-up.
Is there a way to disable encryption to bypass this screen so that I can use the newly-installed ROM?
Thanks in advance.

I can tell you it's not a Lab Rats issue, and as I keep up with jelly bomb its not a reported issue there either. Do a one click and start over.

This is not a ROM issue. The problem you're describing happens when you've encrypted your device, and did not undo the encryption before flashing a new ROM. The fix is easy... Boot into TWRP and go into the WIPE menu. One of the wipe options will warn you that you're about to delete the full internal data partition, removing encryption. Do that, then re-flash the the ROM.

Thanks, but I already tried that yesterday. I tried completely wiping the internal memory. I still get the same error.
The strange thing is, I never encrypted my device earlier.... ever. Maybe if I try encrypting it and removing encryption, this will help?
I saw somewhere on these forums that that message is just a generic message that you get when Android can't access the /data partition. Is this possibly the case, and perhaps do I have a different issue? I did have issues mounting /data earlier, but I resolved those by updating TWRP.
Thanks in advance.

This is just an update for this thread, for those experiencing the same issues. A number of older posts, similar to this one, with the "encryption failed" dialog, are already on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155&page=23
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26317290
I have been researching this topic in great depth over the last few months, and I was able to reach the conclusion that I need to re-root my device, and go back to stock.
So I tried, that failed too.
Here's the image that results from attempting to re-flash my device.
Note: I am inclined to believe that the encryption is a result of rooting a WIND Mobile device (not Sprint) when it was not supported in the Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit.
Thanks for any help.
So i picked up my old S2 yesterday because i was reading about android encryption and thought i could use that to my advantage, well that wasn't the case . I was running ReCaulked Jellybean when i started my encryption and when it turned on i couldn't get the keyboard to pop up so i couldnt enter the password. I used odin to flash back to el29 and got root then i re-flashed a different rom and once it loaded up i got the encryption password screen again, this time i could enter my password but for some reason it didn't work. Right now i flashed back to stock rooted el29 and wondering where i should go from here? Do flash a stock JB and try to remove encryption or should i flash another rom and see if it works?
I would Odin a stock ROM-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252 why are you trying to encrypt it? This is typically only done for business use.

Yeah i know, thats what i was doing. Odin pc, was trying to use one click for recovery after i flashed the rom.
Use Mobile Odin and the .tar file here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244781 if you're using GB27 that is
so el29 works no encryption, gb27 the link you gave me works no encryption, but gb27 recalked jb bring up encryption. for some reason i cant get the encryption gone even after data factory reset.
EDIT: Anything stock works just fine, anything not stock pulls up the encryption.
Alright I finally broke the encryption, I had to load up a stock /rooted gb27 and recovery kernel. I loaded up recovery and turned USB mass storage on, from there on my Pc I could see the drive was still encrypted by the jumped of letters and signs for the drive name. I renamed the drive to F and then formated twice from my pc, then I Odin back to el29 and flashed gb27 recaulked and everything works fine now, nothing on the device or computer show anything encrypted.

Hello XDA members.
I am having an issue.
I came across an S3, I see it was previously rooted, with vroot, and it wont remove easily.
I'm also only getting EDGE speeds, but that's another story.
I've tried the usual Hard Reset through the phone. Didn't work properly. I've booted into recovery and erased cache and done a wipe from there. Still not properly cleansed. Does that mean its missing a file or a certain file has been changed?
Im trying to go back pure stock and also remove the 'modified' from the status.
I'm not too hip to all the specifics and whatnot, just mainly basics with ROMs and rooting.
My only other thought would be Odin. But if I flash the stock through Odin, will it go back to 100% stock? No 'modified'?
I've rooted and Odin'd before, but I never was concerned about it being pure stock or saying modified, cause I was modifying it lol
And, as a bonus, has anyone been able to find a working solution to only getting EDGE speeds? I've read around about changing the Network Mode, and that doesn't seem to work. Seen another post saying that TMO would have to reset the tower connections, or something relative...basically saying the phone could still be locked into a certain area.. I dunno.
That's one reason I'm trying to get the phone back to 100% stock; that's another step in my trial-and-error to get back to '4G' speeds (plus to see the logo)
I sincerely thank you for your help in advance.
What model S3 do you have? Download the one for your model and use Odin to flash back to stock, after that, reboot to recovery and perform a factory reset. It should now say official instead of modified
Yup. Need to know the model. Never heard of vroot so I suspect its different than ours. Factory resetting only wipes data, so it won't remove root since that is on the system partition. You need to find and flash the correct firmware for your device using Odin. Factory reset after that.

Just wanted to say thank you for your help.
The phone has a fresh system on it..not modified anymore, along with no more vroot.
Other than that:
Now im just dealing with only getting EDGE.
Check to make sure the imei matches the sticker under the battery.
I had Redmi note 5 whyred with MUI global rom 10.2.1 (Oreo) with unlocked bootloader and rooted with the latest twrp.
After I deemed the latest miui update not worth it so I decided to flash Pixel experience extended on my phone. First I had to flash the latest firmware available (10.3.2.0) on my phone so I can flash the pie version of PEE, first boot got stuck on google logo fixed on a second flash attempt by reflashing twrp img after flashing the firmware. By after I got to the set I noticed the phone not detecting my sim card which was there so I skipped to wifi, the wifi kept searching without detecting any and when I go to advanced wifi setting my mac address and IP are blank ( check included picture). So I tried reflashing the same rom, then tried to flash another rom (bootleggers) but always ended up in the same result, not detecting wifi and can't skip to home screen.
Another solution I tried is flashing persist.img (taken from fastboot rom 10.3.2.0) through orangefox recovery since it should fix the wifi not working but that also failed.
If there is any other option or solution plz let me know, I can't afford to lose this phone, thank you in advance
Picture for the problem included down

I lost my backup after I got a twrp password that encrypted my data and solve it like an idiot by wiping my internal storage. Can I find a way to flash it like persist.img ? or does flashing stock rom via fastboot fix it since it's the only thing I haven't tried yet

The thing is that I have tried almost all methods available online none seem to work...
My only hope is to get it restored by cell phone repair shops as they have access to tool boxes (miracle, umt etc.)..
Lets see what happens...also dont flash miui cause then you wouldnt be able to verify your mi account if the issue doesnt get resolved...you would be completely stuck..

Hello rtm, I fixed mine I'm using a costum tom and it's up and running as it should be.
All I did was flashing the latest fastboot rom via miflash ( flash all bat and kept the bootloader open) and just like that my phone was fixed, only thing to keep in mind is it asked me ofc about my MIaccount which I miraculously remembered the password and the mail.
Hopefully this will be helpful and you'll find your fix soon as I know how much frustrating the situation you're in now.
