If you are still on FI27 you are going to have to go to FL24. The latest update is based off FL24.

If you are still stuck at the splash screen after the update, install their latest kernel in CWM - The_Kuban_Kernel_0.2.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826190 and reboot.
Also grab the FL24 modem zip from Wilco at http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S2 (Sprint) (SPH-D710)/Modems/ICS/ZIP
Running that on mine and not doing too bad at all.

Ok....went back to stock F127, then manually downloaded the FL24 update. I then rooted it, but when flashed a custom recovery via mobile odin, now phone wont stop rebooting, What can be done with this?? Please
You flashed the kernel in Mobile Odin? I'm guessing you flashed in your recovered backup then?
Do your updates in CWM..
You restored your backup of Kuban and downloaded the update to your phone correct? Installed the update in CWM and was stuck at splash screen correct?
At that point, I would have rebooted into CWM, installed the latest Kuban kernel and rebooted to let the update finish. Chances are, if you are doing your update with an incompatible kernel, you will sit at the splash screen at reboot. Usually that's your kernel, and installing the modem, you can do after you're able to boot normally.

I keep StockCWM-el26.zip on both of my SD internal and external and ALWAYS use this safe recovery for wipes.
Find it, put it on your SD and install it from your current CWM and reboot into it to do your wipes first of all.
You have a backup of BK, then restore it back to your FI27 build. Make sure you can boot into that rom and if not, reboot back into CWM and install at compatible kernel being either a KUBAN recovery or Agats recovery and reboot.
Then, when your running your FI27 build, do your update and install Kubans latest kernel after you update in that sequence while you are still in CWM.
Sounds worse than it actually is. Download everything you need, transfer to your SD card and I would do everything in CWM. I love my Mobile Odin Pro but I only use it in a pinch.

Thats the whole problem .....Now that can obtain root on FL24, cannot find a compatible source custom recovery to get back, the latest tar via mobile odin (Qb king site) causes phone to go nuts and constantly reboot, & im not the only one that encountered this problem....
If you're gonna use Mobile Odin to flash your kernel, use the latest Kuban kernel at the bottom of this op.

I'm honestly not understanding if you have flashed and didn't work, haven't flashed the recovery or can't flash because you are running a stock kernel unrooted. That recovery kernel should work fine and I just flashed the tar.md5 with my Mobile Odin Pro and worked fine. Did you Odin a stock el26/el29 rooted and that's where you are now?

Ok i see what you mean....dude i was hassled by the ota, went completely back to stock FI27, manually updated to FL24, rooted phone on same, but the tar file available for agats cwm doesn't work, might on FI27, i thought i would start fresh, had quite a bit of stuff on internal, thought on a fresh start, Dumb Idea, apparently a few others did too in case phone was screwed and had to take back for service, still waiting on work around
Sorry didn't understand you better in beginning....

What he is saying is that Sprint was forcing him to do an OTA Update so he went back to stock FL27 Build. He then manually updated to build FL24 using Qbking's method. Then he tried to installed Agat recovery using Mobile Odin but he's phone would start up and then reboot. He is trying to find a recovery that won't cause that problem.
To OP: If your phone keeps rebooting after you flash a custom recovery just re-root your phone and that should give you the stock recovery and fix the problem.
I think what he's asking is what recovery can he use that won't cause the rebooting. I'm having the same problem. Which recovery can I use on stock FL24 rooted that's safe and won't cause rebooting ?

Been running Blend from Team Noc for a bit and having a lot of core crashes, as well as some issues with notifications, etc. So I installed Blend 6.0 this morning and still had problems so wanted to try something else while those issues get fixed.
I went into recovery and this is a new recov I have never seen. It simply shows the android, then the following;
Android System Recovery <3e>
I was going to wipe using Caulk's and install another ICS ROM, so went to apply update from external storage (since that was the only option that made sense). Went to the folder they were, selected the format all and it took me back to the android guy on his back with a triangle!
So I am kinda stuck with this ROM unless I can get cqm back on (I guess). There are just so many threads that are out there, some old, some new, the sg2 has 5 flavors it seems based on the carrier (I am on sprint) so from what I can tell, it's the 4G touch.
Thanks to all read/replies.
use odin, instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609255
Just use mobile odin and select the tar file w/recovery. You tried to boot into recovery without a recovery installed which is why it looked funny.
Thanks guys. I followed the 1st post (as I didn't see the 2nd) and ran the step's using a windows machine. Odin saw the device, flashed it, all green, success, and restarted.
Followed up with the quick root/CWM app and worked like a charm. I am back to square one now, did install Venum Ice RC3.1.1 which looked pretty clean, but 1st thing I noticed was anything that uses the media card doesn't work (camera for example). You hit it, returns you to the app drawer.
So, with what's out there right now, what seems to be the most stable with the basic's, (phone, data, camera, etc.)
Thanks again, was well worth the wait to do it correctly!
I've been using CM9A3 as my everyday from. Solid as a rock. I have 0 issue.

I am also on Team Noc's The Goodness Version 6 without a custom recovery, and have a similar question. In that thread they were discussing using Odin to flash a kernel with CM, and they posted two kernals one that is the FD02 (ICS) and the other is EL29 (GB). I am currently on an ICS rom that works with the newly flashed FD02 kernal. However, my question is while on ICS can I odin to the GB recovery kernal so that I can flash a different GB rom? I am nervous to try because I have heard of people bricking going from ICS to GB, but if this works it would make my life easier as a flashaholic

Use Mobile Odin to flash EL26+cwm kernel( http://db.tt/0QJkleJR ), hold volume^+power to boot into cwm wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, flash rom, flash gapps, and reboot. People brick from using a ICS recovery to go back from certain ROMs. EL26+cwm is always the safest choice to flash with.

Yes you can mobile odin the el26 repack with cwm (not the rogue one) I believe its still at the top of the Nocturnal Venum rom thread. Flash in cwm and as it boots hold down the volume and power buttons. It should boot into the blue cwm. Flash whatever you want. Or mobile odin the el26 repack cwm and as it reboots hold the same buttons down to boot into recovery and flash away. El29 doesnt have a cwm repack (its rogue and not what you need). Keep in mind that mobile odin WILL NOT flash modem so dont try it.
Edit: The post above says basically the same thing. DO NOT use el29 kernel. Just reminding you...

Thanks for the quick response! Just a clarification, I do have the el26+CWM (el29 was a typo). Lets say I want to leave ICS for another rom, and a use mobile odin to go back to el26 and accidentally boot into my ICS sandwich rom. Is there any potential risk of bricking there? Also, what is the significance of flashing a modem? I already have an EL29 modem and I am happy with the current setup, do most roms/kernals have baked in modems? And if so should I avoid them when using odin?

You can't boot into a ICS ROM on el26 it is a GB kernel. Every ROM I have used has baked in kernel but no modem. Any modem for e4gt will work with any ROM. Kernels are GB and ICS specific.
Edit:el26+cwm is juts safer to flash ICS ROMs/kernels. When you flash a ROM it will replace the kernel. Just use mobile odin to flash back to el26+cwm to flash new ROMs/modems(wiping like usuall). If changing modem just flash el26+cwm, wipe cache/dalvik, flash modem of choice, and flash ICS kernel of choice. Reboot.

Thanks for the tips that makes a lot of sense! I am gaining confidence of going between ICS & GB. Now is it the same process for roms like AOKP, MIUI, and CM7/9? I have heard they also need specific recoveries to operate correctly.
Yes, el26cwm only and they only use aosp kernels. I believe T.C.P. has them on one of his threads.

If you have mobile Odin install the stock el26 kernel from there if not use Odin boot into recovery and use calks wipe all then flash rom should work with no problems its the safest way to flash here's a link to el26 from my drive save ya some time looking. make sure you nandroid backup and titanium backup before hand and also make sure you have the rom on your sdcard.

Its alright, ya got it now =)
I was attempting to flash to the newest AOKP rom(7-13), well preparing to flash to it anyhow. I flashed the latest AGATS recovery as per QBKing's video posted on the...14th I'm sure.
Anyhow, I flashed the recovery and now I am unable to get past the samsung splash. After having done this, I imagine I did it wrong, but I can still get to the recovery, which is AGATS now. You say that the way you just posted was the safest way to flash? I believe you, being that it looks the simplest.
orr
Would i be able to flash the AOKP rom now? QBK said this is the safest recovery, if something on my prior setup isn't savy with this recovery, if I flash this new ICS rom, then it should all work itself out?
So for anyone wondering, I went ahead and flashed the rom, and it worked. I went ahead and installed AOKP rom, and it booted up. I re-installed agats recovery FF18 (<-- this is right right? I need to learn, teach me! lol) then booted back into the rom to make sure that it worked, and it did. rebooted into recovery, mounted usb, copied gapps, unmounted.
I just flashed gapps, and am rebooting ......and am now stuck in a boot loop to the recovery? What happened??
Alright lol, I somehow was stuck in a loop, but I did a battery pull whilst in agat, then hit the power button, it rebooted into agat but straight into the reboot menu, and then I clicked reboot to system and I'm back to the rom now.
I'm not getting any Wifi or 4g, and low signal. but I do have play store. jumped feet first into it, now I gotta deal with it ....
Agats recovery is a TouchWiz based recovery. That's probably why you are having issues with wifi and possible many other issues. I suggest you start again and flash EL26 using mobile Odin , factory reset+ wipe cache+dalvik cache, install aokp rom and gapps right after and then reboot. The included recovery in the latest AOKP, TWRP, has been modified and be labeled as safe. There is no need to flash another recovery. But as you may know, there is always a risk when flashing ICS, so take things slow and double check things

Well it would seem that another one of my problems is that I can't access my storage menu under settings, leading me to believe that I don't have any access to my SDcard. You can't go into the market and download it? You could also just download a file explorer from the market and install it that way. And there now an app called Triangle away and will take away the triangle as long as you are on ICS. It's made by the same person who made Mobile Odin, Chainfire.
Yeah, I have the store, but I don't have access to it because I need to be connected to my data, can't via 3/4G, or my wifi, so I can't download anything via market. I'm reading to figure something out now...

Alright!
So through all my fruitful searching (it actually turns up great results here!!) I got Mobile Odin Lite pushed to my device via APKPush. I need to instal an addon because its Odin Lite, but its only for flashing FW's, so I oughta be all right to flash the el26 kernel with Mobile Odin.
So now I have all of the tools available to me, I just need the route. I oughta be fine doing all of this, ICS to ICS, because it's the released ICS, not the leaked correct?
:highfive: i just wanted to give everyone a big thanks... I'm officially on ICS..! :victory:
I basically did as stated by btaylor545 and SkippyDogg...
- Used stock el26 kernel .TAR version
- flashed stock EL26 kernel using ODIN mobile purchased from the market.
- Phone will reboot after flash. Hold vol up and power button to go into recovery.
- use Calks wipe all .zip multiple times..
- then flashed my ICS rom...
Rom used:

One last question... If i wanted to try another ICS rom, is it best practice to flash back to GB rom and EL26 kernel then go to another ICS rom or just using EL26 stock kernel be sufficient to jump to another ICS rom.. Thanks again..

Your base band version is your modem. Flash a rom does not upgrade your modem. There is a section with all the different modems available. You can flash thru recovery or mobile Odin.

Lol, I know now. The delay of any responses to my inquiries is making me search these things out on my own, but the directional assistance of just getting it out of my head and down on the forum helps immensely.
I found the Modem/kernel repository, and am going to flash the FF18 modem to see if it turns out some better results. My question now is that all of the guide are telling me to flash CWM recovery kernel, like a whole new rom, you know. I was curious if I could just flash this zip with the TWRP recovery, and just be the end of it, or do I wipe catch/factory restore/dalvik too?

I believe the newest TWRP allows you to flash modems now, so it should be as easy and downloading the FF18 Modem.zip and placing it on your internal storage, rebooting into TWRP recovery and flashing it. Just as a note, different modems work best on different phones.
So for example your phone might get fast 3G speeds on FF18 but get really slow 3G at FF02. 4G is also affected when flashing a new modem. So you have test out each modem if you want the best possible speed for your phone.
And sadly, AOKP at the moment does not allow you to update the phones Profile and PRL. Both of those actions together can fix signal and and speed issues from time to time.

Ok so I decided to flash the jellybean based Goodness rom on my epic 4g touch. Before I flashed the rom everything on my phone was working great but now I have 2 issues. First my data on my phone is not working unless I have 4g which I rarely have. So I decided to restore my phone from a previous backup but when I went to reboot into recovery CWM recovery was gone. Does anyone know why first my data on my phone is gone and how I can get CWM back on my phone? I am on FI27 and if you need any other info let me know.
First you need to make sure that you have a jellybean modem installed with goodness rom fk09 thru fl16 recent. Second after flashing jellybean leak there isnt a custom recovery as of yet we use el26 or el29 direct boot one click to flash add ons or what not. So I would suggest el26 direct boot then flash goodness again and get a copy of the fl16 modem and kernel before you flash and flash all together then you should be good. Some have reported that they had to flash the stock leak then el26 then flash rom modem kernel.

If you can still boot Goodness, use Mobile Odin and flash their suggested kernel and later the modem. I think Goodness was fk23. I did that same thing too many times and forgot to odin my CWM before I decided I'd install a couple zips and found I was at a stock CWM.

You can still boot your phone with "Goodness" rom correct? I may be spanked because there is other ways, i'm sure but I would download one of the tar files in my last post and probably the FK23 tar (first link).
Download FK23 Modem here NOW!! http://rwilco12.androidfilehost.com/ModemSite/MODEMS/JB/ZIP/FK23.zip Zip is for flashing in CWM..
If you don't have Mobile Odin, I would download it and keep it in your arsenal for when you're away from your PC and Purchase Pro later.
Download the tar, open Mobile Odin and click Kernel. Find the tar file which should be in your Download directory then scroll to the bottom and flash. Always let Odin check the MD5.
Reboot and you'll have your CWM and FK23 Kernel, While in CWM install the modem zip you should have downloaded in the link above.
See how that works and with CWM of course you'll be able to try the other modems and see what works best. My mobile Odin does flash modems (could be because of it being the Pro version) and not sure why I've seen others say it doesnt. Must like me!!
Bluesrulez did make me aware that, if your market hangs while downloading, then it is more than likely due to the repack kernel you will be flashing. May have to try another kernel afterwards but just in case.
Yes u must b on job modem. There r other safe custom recoveries like Christy 41gs v6 ics. I backed up and flashed everything with agats fk23 repacked kernal. Worked fine 4 me. U can't use an ics modem to flash stock job ROMs and such. The aosp 4.2.1 ROM is the only 1 I know that uses a ics fi27modem.
Worked for me...
Worked like a charm for me once I got the Pro version Mobile Odin....thanks.
Hey guys i just installed a GB27 rom and i am rooted by i cant find how to install a custom recovery like cwm or agat? how do i do this?
There are tutorials in the stickies of the development and general sections.
You will need to flash the GB27 stock kernel back once you are done with flashing whatever tweaks or mods you want.

Currently there is only a repack kernel and you do not want to stay on that for long... but here it is just flash it in Odin (or mobile Odin) and reboot into recovery. also, you may want to DL the stock kernel and flash that after your done flashing in AGATS.

iam about to smash this phone. but it seems that ever since i had tryed to flash GB08 or GB27 all i have its bad luck. mening i instal eather rom succesfully. and everytime i try to flash the custom recovery from agat and after its all succesfully flashed i go to the custom recovery and do a factory reset and clear cache using the lates agats recovery and once i exite the recovery my phone stays on soem stupid boot loop on the sprint 4g boost screen and keeps looping.. so i have no other choice to go back to Fi27 from freaking 6 months ago. does anybody knows about this boot loop crap? i even dowloaded the latest agats recovery today and still same issue.. weather i use oding or mobie oding he same issue happens. now i also use agts recovery when i use the Fi27 and it works awesome. i just dont know what is this boot loop crap issue on JB.

I know there's a lot of information in the thread link in the quote you posted, but it discusses the known issue of the boot loops and the efforts to get the source kernels and the CWM/tRec recovery issues resolved.
With that being said; You're doing the right thing by using a known working recovery to bypass that issue when you want to reset and/or wipe.
Keep paying attention to that thread as Garwynn is working on it, and narrowing it down, and Agat will join in when he gets back.
I would suggest going back and reading that thread in it's entirety.
Long story short, something changed in GB27 versus other builds that causes data to be wiped in a way that permissions are not set properly and the kernel panics, resulting in said boot loop.
Here's the good news - the file system itself appears to be fine because I did a before/after and it can create files. Just throws all sorts of permission errors. If I can get a cable from home (and time at work today) I might build a test kernel without panic set in the fstab and for testing only. If not will have to wait until tomorrow for me to test.
I need some tips on flashing EL26 or EL29 recovery kernals from GB27 rom.
When flashed (odin, mobile odin, and zip) my phone gets stuck on the first Samsung E4GT logo. No recovery is added, volume up and power only reboots device to same logo.
Ive done this flash before and never had an issue. I dont know what could be the issue.
Would flashing a stock GB or ICS rom and pretty much starting from scratch be a good idea?
I guess my question is are there issues with flashing from GB27 to EL26/29? Do I need to be on a specific kernal? My only fear is if I flash a stock GB rom I wont have a kernal to flash anything else.
Could there be something wrong with my phone? It really seems to me flashing from my current rom isnt compatable.
Please send me some tips and advice on what roms to flash to get back to an el26 so I can proceed with my goal in all this which is flashing the new SHOstock rom with multi window.
Thank you and I appreciate any help!

It wouldn't hurt starting from scratch. It sounds like your current Rom is having some sort of conflict with the EL26/EL29 CWM kernels. Have you tried flashing a gb27 cwm recovery? That will allow you to flash a new rom. They are stable as dd's now and I use them all the time. Try Garwynn or Agat's gb27, they both come with Agat's custom recovery which has cwm. If that doesn't take, might as well save all your important stuff and give a fresh start a try . Good luck.

I have agats gb27 loaded and can flash from it. I need chris 44g el26 or 29 kernel to flash a specific rom. Rom does not load correctly in agats. Many people had issues and per instructions, user 26/29. I will try to start from scratch.

You can use the stock rooted restore gb08 that's what I used to fix that problem. Try following ny guide to get it running perfect after you Odin the stock rooted.

I gave flashing stock GB08 rooted a shot. I then flashed EL29 and EL26. Still does the same thing.
Doesnt boot to CWM.
If I flash a Gingerbread rom, since my EL26/29 isnt working, will I be able to access my current GB27 state I am in now without issue?
My AGAT GB27 is doing me well to retrieve all my current backups.
I dont want to go back to Gingerbread and not have a recovery to use because it uses EL26/29. So I would be screwed, correct?
Thanks!
I am trying to flash EL29 Gingerbread Stock Rom with Root.
This doesnt work as well. Odin freezes on the flash at FactoryFS.img.
Does anyone know why it would freeze on this file?
I've tried multiple tar files, different ports, different cords, two versions of odin.
I let it sit for 30 minutes and nothing. What caused the factoryfs.img file to freeze?
What hardware in the phone could cause this issue?
Any help wouldbe appreciated. All I want is EL26/[email protected]#$ WHYYYY!
If you flash el26 or 29 over ICS or JB your phone will not boot past splash screen. I always use el26 with odin from PC, kernel is flashed from pda slot. Reboot the phone and hold then keep holding power +vol up for like 30 seconds and you will boot into el26 recovery.
If you want to switch from from Touchwiz JB to AOSP or older GB/ICS rom you need to flash a ICS 1 click first like FI27 then flash el26 kernel and flash rom. If you are trying to flash the rooted el29 one click rom it should work. Maybe bad cable. I only flash with blackberry microusb cables.
el26 el29
IM stuck in flash screen. I have el26/el29 in tar.md5 I need them in zip format to flash on Odin. I don't have computer access. Stock cwm-El26.tar and El29 direct boot cwm.tar ?? Any way to get them in zip so I can flash in Odin.

You are confused my friend. Odin uses .tar or .tar.md5 files and CWM recovery uses .zip files. And if you're stuck at splash screen after flashing el29 it's because you can't boot el26 or el29 unless you have that build rom on your phone. They are used for recovery only. Pull battery, reinsert, reboot into recovery, and flash the rom of your choice from there!(e4gt only of course)
