Damaged USB? Slow charging, no USB connection, LED on after disconnected Please read - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello, I have been looking everywhere for months on a solution to my problem and though I have been read about many similar problems mine is a bit different.
My s3 will not connect to any PC. No notification on the PC or phone is visible. The last time it worked I was flashing from CM10 to stock via Odin then update through kies to stock 4.1.
*Note: I was non cm10 with ktoons kernel using fast charge(for about a week) I noticed my phone was getting too hot while charging which was what really made me move back to stock.(plus cm10.1 was not out and I wanted to try a stable version of jb)
The original cable that came with my s3 broke in about a week. So I was using an old mytouch4g charger/cable for a while. My my touch 4g cable was all broken too but it worked. I remember that when I wanted to use Odin to flash to stock my phone would not be detected (though it was working before.) So I asked my sister for her cable. It worked and I flashed to stock, booted to Ubuntu on my PC to set it up. I noticed the the device Id wasn't showing (it did appear a few times but dissapeared pretty fast) after about 2hrs of trying to get it to work nothing. Booted to windows 8 and it wasn't being detected either. So since then I,ve been trying to get it work.
Problems I'm facing:
-No USB connection on any computer.(but charges)
-No USB notification
-slow charging when connected via wall charger(sometimes it won't charge at all)
-Charges normal when its off.
-Charging led stays on for about 15 to 30 secs after being disconnected.
Things I've tried:
-different pcs
-Many different chargers (same slow charging and battery led weirdness)
-Many diff USB cables (including my new Samsung cable that came with my nexus 10)
-Formating my PC.
-Flashing diff ROMs/kernels (currently cm10.1 w/ stock kernel)
-Factory reset.
-USB debuging (enabled/disabled)
-Download mode (USB not detected)
-Removing SD card.
-Booting with phone connected.
-Cleaning connector with a tooth brush(I think its still dirty)
-Kies USB troubleshooting
I also notice my battery is draining way faster. 100 to 0 in like 7-8hrs with like 1hr-2 onscreen time.
So I am officialy giving up, and will continue to use my phone and flash ROMs till it dies, but before I do I wanted to hear what XDA has to tell me.
Is my port damaged?? Any other ideas that might fix it?
Please help!

I have the same problem odin sees my phone in download mode or a camera but not as a phone. When it does connect I get a popup on my phone saying service pack 3 not found. Im reinstalling xp ill let you know if it works

Youve tried two different power sources, what about a different USB cable? Had that issue before where the cable was bad and only noticed when other USB devices werent connecting through it..or intermittently.
yes i tried different usb cables, different power outlets and different computer's.
also i noticed that when its actually charging on the PC, i don't get the small usb icon on the notification to copy files from pc .. i need to power off/on the phone.
ever happened to anyone ?

Ive never read that here, i have a Telus one also and it shows up right away. The odd time ive noticed that ill hear the usb unplug/replug sound from my pc and the phone will show the USB Connected on the status bar as though it somehow reset its connection. But never had an issue where it stays disconnected.
I also only got that issue with certain roms, i dont remember which though. I ran painlessly on Juggernaut for a while and right now im on Touchless and its also perfect.
I am running on Juggernaut, i recently did a clean install (wipe data .. everything) i was having few issues, i though maybe that would fix the issue.
the phone at times thinks that i have plugged the charger in to charge
and u see the battery icon changing. weird...
Have you tried charging with the phone powered down?

Galaxy Nexus GSM: No wall charge and USB not recognized

Hi guys,
My GNex has a problem. Many users seem to have a similar problem but theirs seem to be hardware related and I'm pretty confident mine is software related.
It started a few months ago when my GNex wouldn't charge through the wall charger. I was on a trip with my friends so I didn't have access to a pc and wasn't able to troubleshoot further. The charging icon would appear when the phone was off but when I turned it on it didn't charge. I played around with the phone for about two hours, rebooting, Googling for solutions, changing the USB connection modes in the Storage settings. When I changed from Next Launcher to Stock launcher and rebooted everything was working fine again. However I think it was only a coincidence. Then the problem didn't occur again until now and this is why I think it's software related. If hardware would have been broken the problem wouldn't just have fixed itself like that.
It happened 3 days ago but somehow fixed itself again. I was troubleshooting the issue with my GNex connected to PC and installed Nexus Root Toolkit by Wugfresh. During install my phone rebooted on it's own and suddenly USB worked perfectly again!
However yesterday I forgot to charge and my GNex died. On reboot the issue was back.
"Symptoms":
Phone won't charge with any wall charger (and any cable) unless off
Phone will charge through USB in any mode but PC will not recognize it and install it as unknown device.
USB Debug Icon and Connection Mode notification do not appear in status bar upon PC connection
OTG doesn't work and apps like "Stickmount" do not detect external drives
Attempts:
Gently bending the "tongue" inside the micro usb on the phone in case there is a bad connection
Reinstalling drivers on PC
Rebooting device in different modes including fastboot
Using different batteries
NOTES
This problem started after latest 4.3 update. It has only occured after battery completely runs dry. I have 3 batteries (a bit excessive I know) and an external battery charger so charge is not the issue, I just really want to understand what's going on with my phone.
I'm not ready to Factory Reset or replace the USB port yet, those are last resort options to me. Any other options, especially software related, are very welcome. I am on stock 4.3 only rooted and with CWM recovery.
In Testing menu (type *#*#4636#*#* in Dialer) under Battery Settings my phone also says Charging (AC) when connected through USB. Hope this helps.
Been Googling around for two days now so I decided to make my own thread. Any help is appreciated. Sorry for this very long post.
Fixed it! Tried bending the tongue inside the micro usb again, forced much more this time, everything is working again, for the moment

[Q] Battery doesn't seem to charge, can't get into Odin

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic Touch for Virgin Mobile I'm selling to a friend of mine. It's been working great for me for about the last year on VM. It was rooted and running Liquid Smooth and then CM 10.1 (both using CWM). When I called VM to transfer the phone to my friends account we ran into a road block because CM doesn't respond to the keypad phone codes VM uses to update the phone, or have the VM hands free activation apps.
I figured I might as well flash back to stock ROM anyway. I downloaded the ROM from here.
Odin got about 75% of the way through the flash and then failed. The phone won't turn off but instead keeps up a persistent splash screen asking me to connect the phone to Kies to do a system recovery (Which I did try and Kies can't seem to complete the connection. It sees the phone but can't connect to it, even after ensuring all drivers are up to date. But then I've never had much success with Kies).
I can still get into Odin on my phone so I tried downloading the .exe ROM instead of the md5 this time, but by the time the ROM downloaded Odin tells me the battery is too low to flash anything (which I believe). Problem is I can turn the phone off to let it charge properly (it pops up with the Kies message whenever I plug the phone in).
I've left the phone plugged into the wall hoping that maybe it is in fact charging, but the indicator light only flashes for a second when I plug it in. I'm working a double shift today so I left the phone at home hoping it will charge so that I can try flashing again, but does anybody have any experience with this sort of problem, or know if the phone will in fact charge?

The easy options are to borrow a battery from a friend with a s2 phone, or get a charger off ebay, or buy a new battery from the store which will probably come with a partial charge.
Sounds like your usb port may have died. That happens sometimes.
I was thinking of borrowing a battery. I have a friend with the same phone, so that's possible.
If the USB charger failed, however, would the blue charging light still flicker on when first plugged in? Because that's what it does. It doesn't charge, but it does seem to acknowledge that it's been plugged in. Also, when plugged into the computer it will still flash the plug me into Kies screen, but now my computer doesn't seem to even recognize that anything is plugged in.

It is possible. I had a phone that the data burnt out on, but would still charge. Just one pin needs to be bad to cause some issues, but not break everything.
Could just be the battery is totally empty too. Getting a known good battery with a charge is the first step to troubleshoot this.
I have encountered this problem a time or two before when testing some of my many attempted multiwindow mods, the device will in fact charge, but it is going to take forever. After a double shift I would imagine you'd have enough charge to flash properly, so try it again afterwards. Also have you attempted to return to recovery? If Odin only partially completed, your custom recovery may still be there and you might be able to use the power off option from recovery, while the device is plugged in, and possibly tricking it into not powering on to the error screen.
WARNING! Everything in blue is simply conjecture and has not been proven to work, it is simply a working theory. If it does not work don't say I didn't warn you.

SM-P605 - Stops Charging When Screen Goes Off

Hello,
I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (P605 3G+Wifi) that began to stop charging when the screen goes off. Yes, it's weird but not uncommon. All the topics I found (like this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775833) are fixed by using the original Charger + Cable, which I already did. I even purchased from Samsung a new cable, just in case, with no luck. I also have opened the tablet and resettled all the connections (the vga flat cable and the battery connector). No luck either. :crying:
The only way I have to charge my Note is by installing an app that keeps the screen on while charge. Than it takes 10 hours to charge (with wifi, bluetooth, etc off, and brightness in the lowest) 100% but at least I can keep using my tablet.
EDIT: It also charges when turned off, but the charging speed is as slow as when on with the screen on. Only when on, I connect it to power, it starts charging, the screen goes off and, after a couple of seconds, screen comes on again and its not charging. Its like someone has pulled the charging cable.
I am tired of this and would like to have a definitive fix. If I buy a new battery, will it be fix? What is exactly the problem here? Reflash the ROM will it fix? Does any one knows?
Thanks for the help.
A full wipe and reinstall would likely fix your problem. I've been in this problem once, where the device charges under any condition, but it does so s l o w l y, no matter through what connection. Solved this by doing a NAND wipe through ODIN and re-installing all with that too.
What's your current ROM and bootloader? What kind of modifications have you done?
I'm running 5.1.1 stock rom with root only.
Will have to try that solution and reinstall all my stuff. Thanks.
Good news. Problem is solved.
So I wipe data... no luck, same problem. Download ROM and ODIN, entered in Download mode, connected the USB and... Nothing happened... only the tablet starting charging but the OS didn't detected anything. Tried other PC, same result. So the problem must be on the USB Port.
Checked this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZcwHd0wy0M
Opened the tablet and took off everything like shown there. Including USB Port, flat cable and battery. Reassembled eveything and... voila... problem solved.
Thanks.

S20 won't charge using original cable and charger after using USB Tethering

Just as title says, 10 days ago i used my s20 exynos (g980f) on some windows 7 pc for wifi access, and after that i couldnt charge it. Charger works with another phone, cable works when connected to laptop, but together nothing.
I found that entering safe mode helps, did reboot in safe mode, rebooted normally (had to reapply theme, wallpapers, set default apps), and charger worked again.
The same thing happened yesterday, using the same pc. So, i'm just asking if anyone else experienced the same? Maybe someone could try usb tethering and charging afterwards?
Btw, it doesnt matter if i enable or disable fast or super fast charging... Also i think i was using ATCT (or ATD3) back then, now i'm on ATD5.
Try setting default usb setting to charging only and see if that yields any results
