What's the state of adobe flash support on this device?
Theres supposedly a new version of adobe flash player, including for android, including for "Androud 4 and above"
http://arstechnica.com/security/201...-update-for-attacks-on-windows-mac-users/#p3n
I definitely installed an apk named adobe flash installer ics only days ago after flashing stock rooted MA5, and there is a flash player settings icon in my app drawer, although it just goes to a web page not to a local app, and adobe flash does not appear anywhere in market, not even in "my apps". And when I go to the link "To see what version of Flash your computer is running.", it says "You have version 11,1,115,36 installed."
It shows in Titanium backup too as 11.1.115.36 installed.
Yet when I go to the download page:
http://www.adobe.com/m/flashplayer/android.html
It just says sorry you need flash installed.
According to some of the comments on that Ars article the version numbers are questionable so maybe I somehow already have the latest version or maybe the article got the numbers wrong.
But basically, what is the state of flash on this device? Is it just that the stock browser doesn't support it even if it's installed? Does Chrome or some other browser work?

Chrome does not work with flash, but there are a handful of browsers that do. Personally I use Firefox when I have to do something with flash, but I use Chrome for everything else.
Tip: make sure to enable plugins in the settings of whichever browser you decide to use.
As far as the new version - I don't know anything about it. I'll have to check that out.
The state of Adobe Flash is that it is semi-abandonware. Only fixes from Adobe are critical security fixes, with dev effort halted as of August 2012 (before out N2 was even released)....Flash even working on our note at all is a fluke from Adobe's point of view.
i wouldn't care about this subject at all, except the NHL websites all use f*cking flash for the highlight/fight vids. annoying.

install NHL GameCenter and FakeGPS. it's a winning combo. I suggest being one with the Chinese.
I assume you should be fine with that using a US NHL subscription. I have an international one
Here is the setup working. I'm just doing the HDMI out to my HDTV

There is a nice thread in the Intneral GN2 on this topic, and the guy posts a direct link for the APK from Adobe.
As the other guy, you need to use a Flash friendly browser. I'm use Boat, since it's a light browser and works. The other two that would work, that I know of are Firefox (mentioned earlier) and Dolphin. If you can get it to work, I found Dolphin, on my Evo4G, worked best with Flash. Firefox worked, but was really so to load. Boat works fine, but I haven't thoroughly tested it.
Overall, I find Flash experience and performance to be site dependent Some sites, works like a charm. Others, well..., they're less than desirable with odd issues that came up such as no picture if you go full screen.

Here's the link that I use on all androids with 4.0 up. No problems with flash on stock browser after installation.
Download and install with a file manager. Root not necessary.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/w2s6vcaa8ks14ut/install_flash_player_ics.apk
Settings advanced plugins is already "always on". There is no flash-specific setting anywhere.
Are any of you with working flash in the stock browser on ma5? Maybe the browser in ma5 has all support stripped out?
That download was for 11.1.115.20
It didn't work any better so I think people should install the latest 11.1.115.37 unless we can show that there is some situation where the old version works while the new one does not. It was a security update after all and it was bad enough that they actually updated a product they already said they were never updating again. It is handy to have old versions to refer to sometimes though so thanks for that.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Annnd now it's working. Stock browser in MA5 with flash 11.1.115.37 installed, the adobe flash test page actually works. The Sprint speed test page also works.
I wish we could nail down exactly how to make it work and document it explicitly.
Why didn't it work for me before? Why does it work now?
The only things I did in the last few minutes were: installed dolphin, dolphin beta, firefox, firefox beta, and xscope pro (i had purchased that way back on the og evo but never really used it since then) and tried to load up the test page in everything but xscope, just hadn't got that far yet when I tried the stock browser again just to double check and compare the exact appearance. Possibly one of the other browser installs did something to flash to make it work? Maybe installing that 11.1.115.20 version did something after all even though it was replaced again? I haven't even rebooted.

If you haven't yet heard, Adobe is ending all support for mobile Flash entirely on August 15th, 2012 (tomorrow). This includes stopping all new downloads of Flash, which means removal of the Flash apk from the Google Play Store. Since we're all enterprising smartphone users who still want to use Flash, I request that someone post the stock apk file. Even if we have backups like Titanium for the system data, it's nice to have a clean apk to download from for our future phones, especially since mobile Flash effective has no future.
Thanks in advance.
Google search for the apk. I know for a fact it's posted in many threads in the Nexus 7 forum.

Anyone having major problems with flash player working? I can't seem to get it to work. I installd and restored like 3 different versions and they all do the same thing. When I open a page with a flash video in it it appears normal (a white box with the little download symbol thingy in the middle) but when I press the video it shows a little blue box with a "x" in it I think or something like that. I've also tried different roms (a tw rom and cm9) and I get the samee result.

gingerbread wasn't 2.0. eclair was 2.0/2.1. froyo was 2.2; gingerbread was 2.3.
the small steps in versions are because they aren't big enough updates to warrant a big step in numbers. they are just incremental updates.
Flash works on stock browser on S3, make sure your on ICS for official support. For JB, you can search XDA there is a thread on how to make it work. Flash doesn't work on Chrome regardless of ICS or JB.

And the video has so many uneeded steps, just download the apk and side load it with any file manager and use the Boat, Firefox or Dolphin browsers. Another work around is Skyfire, but that is outdated and las update was 2011...

Same here, there many sites that I go to to view video that are still in Flash (flv) format and the HTML5 take over will take a few years to get there. Youtube was one of the first adopters of HTML5, but many are still falling behind.
Thanks to this thread I've found the Boat Browser, was using Dolphin a lot more than Chrome. I find Chrome lacking and missing some features, expected a more robust experience. I'm going to keep it for now and see how it evovles over the course of time.

After my longtime fight to get away from Dolphin browser I finally settled on Chrome. I use an app now called 'flashify' in the Play store. Whenever I hit a snag I share the page to Flashify which in turns allows me to carry the link over to another browser. In this case its the 'OCS Browser included in/with JellyBomb ROM.
Really bored one day I decided to track my battery usage and internet connections. I found that Dolphin was a bit of a hog compared to others. Can't get into the swing of Firefox. Used to use Boat but it seemsBoat was just right behind Dolphin Browser is size/data hog. It didn't really slow anything down that I could tell but I just felt Chrome would be... Less of a mem hog/battery/data hog than Dolphin. I could be wrong.... But seems to worm better for me. Just a thought...

yeah ive noticed that adobe flash is no longer in the market anymore, only reason why i was able to download from the market was because on the first day i got the gs3 i saw it once and download it on stock kernel, when i rooted and flash my rom it desappeared from the market, later found it under apps that i installed from my previous phone up until now from the new google data recovery. Now everytime i flash a new rom i can get it from the market throught the google recovery. forgive my ignorance, but whats so great bout the new HTML5 versus the adobe flash and what new features is it having?

Yup, if anyone wants to use flash with Dolphin, you'll have to find an older Dolphin HD app...but that typically crashes when you try to rotate the video...xscope works great with flash though.
I dont find the need of using flash with dolphin. Its the only browser that lets me see most videos online, in websites like gorillavid, putlicker and other. Dont know if it is because of the html5 support but it sure gives a nice performance. I used to watch the wire in dolphin at night

Just use this along with flashify, which will allow you to open links that have flash running in them in your stock browser. Works well for me for the few times I need to see a flash derived page.
I've been using Dolphin Beta with the flash player, cause I think the newest Beta has some form of the Jetpack.
I use this to enable flash. Not so sure about the add-ons though.
At the very least, it's pretty fast, and it doesn't sacrifice flash.
Use "Puffin Web Browser" for Flash - Best I've experienced so far...overall....stable.
If anyone was wondering about getting flash working on their phone for sites that haven't converted to HTML5, it is possible to install and make flash player 11 for android work on these phones. You can get the apk file from blapkmarket.com and install it. After doing that, flash will start working in the built in browser and add on browsers as well. So no more little ? box because it can't display that little flash video in the browser.
Proof it works after being installed in the screen shot. And the apk file is the installer I used from blapkmarket.
Enjoy!
Yes thank you:thumbup:

And I doubt it matters, but I installed this on a rooted phone. Still stock odex rom.
And its really simple to make this work. Download the apk. Copy to your storage (phone or external). Run the apk. It installs and presto, you have flash in browser. I've only tested it with the stock web browser.

Chrome is having issues on the Note II... for me at least.
I use FireFox for Flash sites.
Another thing that is not working well in Chrome is pasting into text fields. Lastpass and Chrome are not happy together for some reason.
Worked for me!
I've been running Flash Player 11.1.115.12 since the day I rooted my phone; about the second day after I got my phone. I had a Titanium Backup from my Evo 4G.
I don't like the stock browser. I use Boat Browser when I need a flash player for a website.
I've read you can download the APK directly from Adobe, but I could never find on their site. I'm always a bit weary about downloading something not on Google Play or developed by XDA members. Anything popular like Flash Player I'm even more weary because "the bad people" know it's popular, in demand, so one could end up downloading and installing malicious software instead.
my apologies, it appears I'm out of date. It looks like the international GN2, there was a thread with e direct link to the same version. The download link in the thread is to the same site macromedia that Adobe links to for the archieved versions. The thread is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954255
I'm still weary of anything from a third party android market which are victorious for viruses.
Victorious!!!

World fine for me under stock and Firefox although there's only a few sites where it gets scrambled like old school porn channels.

I use stock browser
How can there be updates when it's no longer supported? What's that all about?
It's a shady dl, I dled it and got an virus detection and it filled up my photos album with a bunch of random albums. But I can just be unlucky.

There will always be updates to Flash but due to lack of support they're no longer pushed to your device. Therefore, you can obtain the updates as they roll out on Adobe's Flash archive site.

What browser do you guys use with Flash, seems like the experience with Flash is hugely dependent on the browser you use and I haven't been too happy with most I have tried.

Stock browser works flawlessly for me - never had it crash. I also use Boat Browser w/ Pro key which is a very nice, clean, and stable flash supported browser for the Note 2.

???
What did you install on your phone? The flash apk on Adobes site shouldn't do any of that.
I use flash on the stock browser. When some sites can't be tricked into "desktop" mode in the stock browser I switch to boat browser.
