How to get out of direct boot CWM? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Whenever I flash something using Mobile Odin/direct boot cwm I get stuck in a boot loop. Is there anyway to get out of it without flashing the whole ROM again?

You can't get stuck in a boot loop using direct boot kernel unless you have a bad download. After flashing, it goes to cwm el29 recovery and that is not called bootloop. You do whatever you want to in recovery and then flash the kernel zip in directboot el29 cwm for your rom before exiting from recovery. if you don't have a kernel zip matching your rom, flash the rom zip again without wiping data.

Had him install Touch recovery via goo-manager, rebooted into recovery and wiped data/cache blah blah, install .zip file and gets an error
every CM10 based rom gives some sort of error
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2att" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2att" e:Error in /emmc/cm-9-20120720-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (status 7)

Yes. Instructions can be found with a quick search.
Download mode -> ODIN to stock -> Put ClockworkMod recovery on SD -> Install CWM using stock recovery -> Happy flashing!

No. You don't use ODIN to flash cm10. Error 7 happens because of outdated recovery. Download ROM manager from the play store, install cwm through it and after its installed ...boot into recovery and flash cm10.

Ok, did it, and got the green pass light on odin and had him go back into recovery and ONCE AGAIN, back into the STOCK recovery.
I'm losing my mind with frustration!
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Also, why doesn't this work?

He rooted it I wasn't there when he did it.
It sure seems rooted it.. Super user is there and I already flashed a rom
But again, every CM10 based rom gives some sort of failure
and his recovery goes back and forth on its own from CWM to stock, its very strange
What recovery version does he have?

The one from goo-manager
Whatever goomanger puts on there.
The problem is, if he loads goo manager, tells it to download the recovery and reboots into recovery the recovery will there.
If he reboots a few times and then goes and reboots into recovery it will revert back into the stock recovery.
WTF!! lol
All you need to do is to install ROM manager from the play store and from it you can install the latest cwm recovery easily.

Yes, we installed Rom manager and when he clicks "flash clockworkmod recovery" he gets an error
I gotta wait till he gets home so he can tell me what the error is again
thanks
Ok I forgot, he doesn't get an error message when he goes to install the clockwork recovery via rom manager, he gets a message that he has to choose a phone and in that list there is no GSIII
which model should he choose ? THANKS
Yea so ok, something is seriously screwed here,
I had him flash the CWM recovery the third on this list
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28612095&postcount=558
Had him reboot into recovery and flash that zip, it was successful, I had him reboot into recovery from the touch recovery that we installed from goo-manager and he was indeed in the CWM recovery
Had him reboot the system, then again reboot into recovery from rom manager and sure enough it reboots into the stock android recovery.
Something is seriously wrong here.
I am totally at a loss
It has something to do with the flash counter. Since I'm not sure about it I would have him re root his phone using the toolkit and flash a recovery with the toolkit and see what happens.

Are you trying to root a kies/ota update? Canadian carriers put in an install script that removes custom recovery at every reboot.
Look for install.sh in the root of the phone's file system.

[Q] Phone stuck on Samsung boot after stock restore help?

Hey my samsung galaxy s3 was bricked when I tried installing a kernal for a jb rom and I restored it to stock in odin.
Right now its just stuck on the Samsung Boot logo and the blue led is shown but it wont boot up. What do i do?
Reflash. By chance, can you get into recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
No, not at all. When i hold volume up + power + home it vibrates twice and turns off and does the same thing when I hold it which makes it turn on. I can get to download mode though

Use the ota in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895100
It's lg1 then just accept the ota after you do it to get to lh9.
Sounds like you just flashed a bad ota.

Ok so ive finished the installation of the CALH1 on odin but my phone is still on the boot logo. What do i do now?
Not lh1 here:
Flash this in odin: http://d-h.st/u2B <<< AT&T lg1
Thats the image i used to get back to stock with root. After that flashes the system will boot and say there is an update if you want the latest os then install rootkeeper from play store and run it that will preserve root. Once you run rootkeeper accept the update and that will get you to lh9 the latest os.

No, not yet i cant really get into clockwork recovery at all if you read my post above. I got into this whole mess by flashing a kernal on a jb rom whe i was rooted and i probably shouldnt have because it bricked my phone. But ive done almost everthing above and now im willing to do anything to get my phone back up and running. Will flashing the kernal for it fix it?
Yes, if you can find a way to enter download mode flash a stock rooted kernel and a stock ROM. You may need a jig to enter download mode

I can enter download mode without a problem all i need is the kernal you said which would possibly fix my phone.
The lg1 update i gave you has the boot.img (kernel) with it. It is everything, boot.img, system, modem, etc. Sounds bad but are you sure you are using odin correctly ?

Yes I think so, i run odin with administator tick auto reboot and F. Reset time click PDA and located the root69.stock_ATT_I747UCALG1.tar (the old boot img you gave me) and connect my phone while it is in downloading mode and press start. Is that right?

Can you even do that on a bricked phone? Is there a program I can do it through? I can't load my clockwork recovery at all.
Did you try the toolkit?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Hope this helps. I had a similar issue once where the phone gets stuck at the Samsung logo. What I did was booted into stock recovery and did a wipe cache and wipe data. The phone booted up successfully after that.
U can also flash CMW through ODIN and do all the wipes (dalvik, cache and data) and I'm pretty sure ur phone will boot up.

[Q] Stuck on Android Text :(

I'm using the latest lewa from Delanoister for a few days. Suddenly after a reboot I get stuck on the BNC logo. I flash CM7 from MMB and still get stuck on Android text. I wipe data, format system and flash ROMs but still got stuck. What can I do? :crying:
Flashing ROM for more than half a year, first time got stuck on this
I tried Odin, but after that I got bootloop and stuck on the samsung animation. During using Odin I found this as attached

after wiping, finally got into system, but still when I go into recovery, I saw this as shown in attachment. And I tried flashing custom ROMs but can't get into system, only stock ROM flashed through Odin can. Do you know why?
you need custom recovery, root acces, at least android 2.3.x. anld ext4formatter.zip rlthe first time installing a custom rom. you problably miss atleast one.

My procedure:
flash stock ROM (2.3.x) -> boot into recovery and wipe data -> can boot into system -> flash CWM using Odin -> flash ext4formatter.zip using CWM -> reboot and flash PX-recovery -> reboot into PX-recovery -> flash custom ROM (CM7 by MMB)
until the last step everything was fine, but stuck on android text after flashing custom ROM. Maybe I miss rooting? thanks anyway and I will try later
root before flashing CWM

[Q] Fail to boot after installing TWRP via GooManager

Hi,
as in the title - I tried to flash TWRP via GooManager. When I tried to get into recovery, it stacked at the samsung logo... i cant boot into recovery nor system. Download mode is the only option that works.
How to fix it?
phone: N7105
On download mode try to flash stock Samsung firmware using odin.
Damn... stock roms are uploaded mostly on hotfile.com, which is shut down...
I can't find any other mirror for Polish stock rom... Does anyone have it on the hard drive and could upload it? I would be greatfull...
Ok, I found stock rom. But now, I have bootloop... I'm downloading another stock rom and will see.
Any other ideas how to bring him life again?

Thank You so much! It worked

CMW not booting up, after installing with Odin.

In Odin, the status is Pass and completed but for some reason when I try to do a restart to recovery, cmw doesn't boot up, only a black screen shows up. I'm on twrp because that's been working.
Any ideas on why cmw doesn't boot up?
Thanks.

CWM really isn't worth even worrying about; in my opinion, Philz Touch recovery trumps both TWRP and CWM, even though it is based off of CWM. It is more like CWM on steroids, with some TWRP compatibility thrown into the mix. Try it, you won't be disappointed, and you will soon forget about using any other recovery.
