Bad mic quality with various headphones? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Does anyone have generally bad microphone quality with their sprint note 2?
When on wired headsets like the apple earpod or my ultimate ears, people say I sound like I'm under water and really hard to hear. Also, I sound fine when speaking directly into the phone without a headset
I'm on ProjectROM ultralight if it matters. I'm wondering if the various sound enhancing programs like dolby are screwing up the mic quality.
Thanks!

Wired mics on headsets are notorious for having bad feedback issues. It has to do with the speaker and mic wires passing so close to each other and the EMF bleed over

Are bluetooth headsets better for this phone? If so, I'll go that route.

Yeah BT doesnt have wires passing right next to each other causing feedback from the EMF bleed over (signal hop) just make sure you buy a decent BT headset. Anything less than around $40 is junk and will sound terrible to you, the other party or both. Blueant and jawbone make some of the best but they are $80+ up to about $200 for a good midrange I'd go with Motorola I've never had an issue with any of their $40-60 price range headsets.
Edit: I'm currently using a jabra that was like $35 after I stepped on my 3rd jawbone. It works well as long as the phone is on me or close by it gets kinda distorted if I get 10'-15' from my phone but as long as its near me it works great, and since I usually don't let it out of my sight its not really an issue. I noticed the distortion at home one day when I left my phone on my desk and walked away for something and it started getting staticy and garbled sounding once I made it about 15' from the phone. But there was also alot of interference in the area since the phone was in my office and there's about 20 other bluetooth items sync'd in there for my computers

Headphones

Im looking for headphones that have music seek controls (forward and back), pause, and a mic. They have to be compatible with the Atrix, as my nexus headphones are not.

Sony Ericsson MW600. Bluetooth headphones that work pretty well with the Atrix.
you need to make sure you have compatible software (music player) - there are only 4 wires (connections) - left and right audio, mic, and ground - putting more buttons doesn't change this fact.
Something has to interpret what connections you are making and breaking and turn that into actions.

I use these for both travel, and to drown out noise at work while I am constipating deeply:
Motorola S9-HD
So far I have had 5 hours battery life on a full charge, despite reading previously that a full charge was 2-1/2 - 3 hours. Now I have had time to really use them I have found it to be good. Also, the mic, although in one of the earpieces has had good feedback as far as people hearing me on calls. Atrix battery barely drains while using these over bluetooth.

I have the original S9 headphones, this 'sport headset' stopped working because of moisture while using at the gym. I just put them in a box, but discovered that this is a major and longstanding issue that Motorola refuses to address. Sound familiar?

I hear the S10 headphone are horrendous. The reviews on amazon are bad.
I have a S9-HD (came from moto warranty), and they are pretty good with Atrix. My previous phone seemed to hate them. Coudln't get a foot away without it cracking out. Seems to work okay with Atrix.
Just make sure you buy them from moto or amazon... there are a lot of fakes.
Other ones I like are the HT820's from moto, but I don't htink they sell them anymore. They are kind of big (and hurt your ears until you get used to them), but they have amazing range and like 15 hours of battery.

Have you considered something like the jabra bt3030? Has controls and Mic but allow you to use your own headphones quality headphones. I think there is also a jabra clip or something like that. Might be worth looking into.

I have some S10s. Had a set of S9s before that. Sound reproduction on both isn't the best but as functional devices they are excellent. For good quality a headphone rather than an earphone is the way to go.
Only real downside is that the earbuds tend to ping off in your bag.
Haven't had any issues with moisture either. Even dropped my S9s in the sink once and they were fine afterwards.

I was actually looking to something similar. I tried to plug in the headphones that came with my iPhone but it doesn't seem to work for some reason. Anybody know of anything that is under the $30 mark? Don't want to spend a fortune for a wireless bluetooth headset

I still haven't figured out why they won't work. My wife picked up a set of Bose headphones from Sam's for her iPhone and the button works on my Atrix, but the stock iPhone headset doesn't.
Its most likely proprietary, like everything apple makes is.

Small Bluetooth Headset...for music?

Ok to start I hate the way Bluetooth headsets look sticking out of the side of someone's ear especially those with the damn blinking light on it. What makes it worse is when people walk around seemingly talking to themselves for all the world to hear. With that said, I don't want a headset for phone calls. I want one for music.
I'd prefer not a standard headphones unit with 2 ear buds, I only want one ear so that I can still perfectly hear what's going around me.
Do normal headsets that are designed for taking calls with work for playing music as well? I'm not terribly concerned with sound quality, I just want something discrete and functional. Does anyone have any suggestions? They would be most helpful as I'm a bit lost on this one. Thanks!

If it was easy you'd of hired the guy at Home Depot to to it.
Anybody?

I was looking for something similar about two months ago, and then I came across the Motorola Elite Sliver through a deal site for $50.
I use my all day while I'm at work or at client's sites. I can listen to iHeartRadio or music on my Nexus in one ear, and still listen to everything else using my other ear. A single charge will last you 4-5 hours, but it requires the case to charge. But the cool thing is the case has a battery which charges while it's plugged in, so if you're on the go and need to charge your Elite Sliver, just pop it into the case and it will charge - no need to plug it into an outlet.
Really happy with it and it lets me listen to the radio or music while still keeping an ear open for the world around me

Not in front of my computer to check the specs, but honestly, I think it sounds pretty good for being a one ear piece headset. Like I said, I use it all day to listen to the radio and music, and still have the ability to listen to the people and environment around me.

I was sent a Jawbone Era to provide feedback on a new style of rubber ear bud.
I have never really that much into bluetooth before.
Anyway I do use the Era to listen to music when I don't want to use a pair of wired ear buds.
Battery lasts 5.5 hours and is charged via a standard micro USB.
yes they do

Not sure about using headsets for making calls for music - seems like the quality wouldn't be that good. If you just use the headphones with 2 ears buds you could still take one out and listen to music and make a call. Problem solved? :fingers-crossed:

Suggestions on a Sport Stereo Bluetooth that WORKS with the s3

looking for a little input from people who have (or have tested) any stereo bluetooth headset on the s3.
Background: I had a LG tone+ which i actually loved and it worked perfectly on my One S. Then i decided to get the s3 and this thing cannot stay connected for ANYTHING. i have tried kernels, roms, hacks, pretty much everything. It would stay connected for a little while, but always would lose connection and not reconnect even after i delete and re-add the headset.
Here are my list of thing i would like to have in the headset:
Decent sound (amazing sound would be prefered but i am realistic here )
sweat-proof (at least to some extent)
connects to the s3 consistently
Would prefer $100 or less but would pay more if its THE headset (not sure THE one exists yet though)
BTW, i could care less what call quality is. I may take an occasional cal when working out, but not often enough to care what my voice sounds like to the caller.
If anyone has any thought or experience, i have been eyeing the following ones, but always open to other suggestions:
Jaybird freedom
motorola SF600
plantronics 903+
Thanks for any help!

How about the LG Tone? From reviews, the sound quality isn't quite as good as with the Tone+, but the range is vastly better and it cuts out far less frequently (if at all).
In fact, I've been using the LG Tone headset for 4+ months now. Mostly I use it at the gym while lifting, but have also used it for running, cycling, and making phone calls around the house (phone is 20+ feet away when I'm talking on the phone). Sometimes I make phone calls while at the gym too (but phone is in my pocket).
I don't think there has been a single time where they have cut out. The sound isn't what I would call "stellar", but it's not majorly worse than the headphone port on the S3. And my comparison point is a wired Sennheiser earbud set.

Huh.. i know this is a dumb question, but you are using this on your s3 right?? lol the strage thing about the tone+ is it works on my wifes one s almost flawlessly.
How is the sound quality? Sufficient? Not severely lacking in any area? The tone+ had really great sound was actually pretty impressed.
Thanks!! :good:

If you read through the reviews on Amazon, there is at least one review between the Tone and Tone+. One guy said that although the Tone+ sounded a little better, the Tone+ eventually got shelved in favor of the Tone because of the poor connectivity of his Tone+.
The Tone sounds good enough to me, though the bass is be a bit lacking. When I'm working out I could care less if the audio is superb.
If you consider yourself an audiophile you shouldn't even consider BT headphones (IMO).
You might consider using a standalone bluetooth receiver (like this or this) and a pair of regular earphones/headphones.
I personally have the Antec one and use it with my Sennheiser CX270 earphones, which works well at the gym.
I have the Motorola S-11HD
Awesome sound, 80 bucks APT-X Codec, 5 minutes to charge, will connect every time and has a range of over 50 feet.
I have the Jaybird and I'd say it's a good choice. Never had any problems connecting to my S3 though some reviews claim the blue tooth is "weak" because of the small antenna size. I wear it on my right arm (for running) or in my pocket. It's worked fine for 4 months of running 3 times a week so far. It has a lifetime warranty for sweat so I'm not too worried about that. The on/off button is less than ideal to push because of it's stiffness and the geometry of the ear bud but I don't use it for calls so that isn't very important to me It has a lot of options for getting the correct fit which is nice. I'm guessing I get about 5-6 hours of play time from each charge (I charge weekly so I rarely run into this).
Overall I'd say the Jaybird is a good option.

Bluetooth Wireless Headset

I am a sales rep and spend most of my day on the phone, whether it be while at my desk or in the car. I usually hold my phone to my ear when I'm at my desk (which restricts me from using hands) and when I'm in the car I use the Samsung earphones.
I've tried BlueAnt sets for my car but they always either have problems connecting to my phone, bad sound quality, bad battery life, or all of the above.
Just wondering if a good alternative would be a bluetooth wireless headset, and if so, which one should I go for?
Are these good for sound quality and battery life?
I would imagine they wouldn't be the best with background noise but I'm usually in quiet environments while on my phone so this isn't so much of a problem.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
bump
I'd recommend the sony sbh20 if you want to listen to music and have a handsfree headset. Despite connecting with bluetooth, the sound quality is exceptional, and the connection is very stable (I can answer calls when my phone is 10 metres away or in another room).
Has anyone had experience with the Sony SBH20? That looks like it may do the job and also be used for music at the gym...
I use the Motorola SD-10 and love them. They can answer a phone call, have volume control, can skip to next track or fast forward, and can pause and play music.

[Q] Bluetooth headset range

Maybe I should put this thread on accessories. But I'm not sure if it can be solved in the phone itself.
I'm looking for a simple headset which allows audio streaming, and can be used in one ear only.
My problem is that several headsets I tried don't have a range that extends from my left pant-pocket to my right ear. And even the range left pocket to left ear is problematic. And the problem isn't that I'm very tall!
The symptom is that the music breaks off for a few seconds, and then continues.
I tried the Platronics M25, and Jawbone ERA.
Is there anything one can adjust in the phone to extend the bluetooth range? I'm on the standard 4.1.2.
Or, which headsets have a good range?
Thanks!
Do you want music or talking? I mean, is must sound quality important?
Basically there are a ton of Bluetooth headsets for calls that work at good distances. From the sounds of it your Bluetooth is not functioning properly.
I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and it work pretty much anywhere in my house.
Shame it doesn't have an external speaker or vibrate function for incoming calls!

This is mainly for listening to podcasts. So sound quality isn't super important, but I need a2dp, or some such.
Could it have to do with the fact that I'm biking? Could it somehow be that the phone is at a strange angle, or moving, which makes the bluetooth reception worse?
No, I just did an experiment with my M25, both on the Note 2 and on an Xperia ray:
phone on the couch, I walk away ~3 meters, and music reception drops.
Maybe I should try the PRO+. But I'd like something smaller....
