I took a quick peek and didn't notice any tip list focusing on just rooting tips on this forum for this phone, feel free to add to this list! I know this is super noobish, but what the hell, hopefully this helps someone.
1. Removing annoying sounds (camera/startup/shutdown). Delete startup audio/camera audio sounds. I absolutely hate the dreadful sounds that come out of the S2, you can delete the ogg files if you are rooted by navigating to the parent directory ->system->media->audio->ui (delete ogg files as you wish). to delete the startup sound system->etc
2. Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin makes it super easy to flash a safe recovery kernal like el29. Another big plus, is using mobile odin doesn't trigger yellow triangle. Chainfire was nice enough to share mobile odin (that flashes kernal to xda users here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899). To put it simply, a safe kernal allows you to flash a zip/rom. Keep in mind getting mobile odin pro may allow you to flash roms directly, but I believe modems need to be flashed seperately.
3. Button Savior. If you have phantom key presses and it's driving you insane (like me in the past). Try this program out, I believe it's on the market. It adds software button functionality, having root access ensures that it has access to all buttons, not having root will cause some of the software buttons not to work. Highly recommend the paid version if you are stuck with a phone with phantom key presses. Keep in mind that the new JB roms and CM builds coming out have an option for on screen buttons.
4. pimp my rom. A wonderful app that has tons of customizations for the phone and tweaking for maximum performance. If you're interested check the forum page on it. -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908269 . In addition, Exit_Only's tweaks are built specifically for our phone while pimp my rom is a more universal type of tweak. 5. Titanium Backup. Does so much ranging from uninstalling or "freezing" useless apps that come with the phone (think sprint FM radio or sprint ID). It also does what it says in it's name... backup stuff.

Both! I used to date a girl that was in the Marines and she was a FAHREEEEEEEAAAKKK in the bed. Are any of them specifically Paranoid Android / CM10 unfriendly? I know for sure Titanium & SuperSU are all fine. I had problems with Adfree on PA, so I started using AdAway instead.
Edit: Just installed Seeder, and I can't recommend it enough, my phone is like twice as snappy, there's now zero lag.

Btw, instead of deleting files you could add a .bak file extension to whatever you don't want and reboot. This way if you want it back later on you just need to remove the .bak extension and reboot which is a lot better than flashing the full ROM again.

i was in Titanium back pro and under the system filters i found two apps called "Keytracer" and " Mobile tracker" is this CIQ in another form or what...
im rooted and running the STARBURST ROM
Just found Keytracer in UnNamed 2.0.1 Rom, the mobile tracker is no where to be found. Wonder what keytracer would be though? Wonder if it's ok to just freeze it for now?

you could freeze it, but im paranoid so i just uninstalled it... its been over 24 hours and no problems,sorta...every time i reboot my phone and go past the lock screen google map force closes o.0

Then why does it need the full internet, calendar read/write,SMS/mms, phone, GPS, hardware controls, etc etc.
Multi touch capabilities are determined by hardware/software on the kernel layer. The UI level simply needs to utilize the multi touch like the keyboard

well title says it all, i got directed to come to xda for help. ive had smartphones but never have done or seen a phone rooted. i just picked up the gs2 coming from sensation and my hotspot is now locked down to having to pay 15 a month. was told by rooting you pickup free hotspot and sometimes paid apps. can someone provide me with download links and instructions step by step so i dont mess up my phone. thanks in advance.

Just a heads up. Its against the forum rules to ask for paid apps for free. Not trying to be a jerk or anything.
I found that the method mentioned in the stickies in the Dev section pretty clear and straightforward, its noob friendly unlike the MTG4G which are a great mess. Once rooted, install titanium backup and freeze/delete the tethering manager app and you should be able to tether for free. You can get free apps while being on stock........

Here it is
To flash the kernel:
-Boot into recovery
-Wipe Cache
-Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Install zip from SD Card
-Reboot and let it sit for a few minutes for the OS to load up completely (about 5 minutes should suffice)
-Reboot once more and install SetCPU which can be found in the Market for $1.99 or free here
Once installed open it up and AutoDetect Speeds and then select form the drop down menu SmartassV2 and you should be set

A kernel is pretty much the main computing core of an operating system. If you're using the one that came with Jug's rom, you will experience some lag and random reboots. Eugenes kernel gives you better performance and battery life (if you wanna think about it that way). Just flash it, you wont regret it.
It's not hard at all either, pretty much the same process as flashing a ROM but instead you flash another zip file.

Correct. Wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot then wait like 5-10 mins then reboot again
If the only thing you wabt to do is tether, then (only if u jave a 5gig or more plan) you can call tmo and they have a promotion going on right now that will give u tethering for free. Just give them a call, in the auto system say plans, then hit 0 and tell the rep about the promotion.

We have discovered that the FG builds have NO ROAMING OPTION..this won't affect boost flashers though
Here we go!!!! Just wanted to say i tried to do a helluva lot more with this rom but its a complete disaster trying to theme the FG series so far, so i went in a totally different direction...stayed stock...i decided to pull calks tweaks from his e4gt series of roms(thanks calk for everything youve done in the community and for our phones!!!) and added venum's personal tweaks, slapped in team venum recovery modded 2 images to give calk some respect and called it a day...this rom is VERY FAST and VERY STABLE, again, its totally stock, for all you guys out there that miss having a stock calk rom, here's what you're looking for..i apologize for the massive size of the rom, it seems when you remove even basic apps, compile and flash, fg20 gets very angry with you and makes it so the touchscreen is non responsive, no worries though, once booted you seem to be able to remove what you like...
Flashing instructions:
I always recommend going back to el26 cwm(safest way to do it)
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Calk's format all(you can get this on any of calk's rom threads)
Flash rom
Enjoy

Sprint users:
In order to use mms you need your msl #, there are.numerous ways of getting this and they are posted all over xda, get it and then:
1.go to dial pad
2: press ##3282#
3.press edit
4. Enter msl
5. Click other
6. Click mmsc url
7. delete boost info and write this http://mms.sprintpcs.com
8.reboot
If you have any issues with market, apps youve paid for are showing you havent paid for them, then go to accounts and sync in settings and make sure your gmail is fully syncing
If that doesnt work, go to application settings, playstore, and wipe cache, wipe data, force stop, disable, then enable...reboot and should be good
Boost users:
Boost hotspot is not hacked, use wifi.tether instead
Not.sure.if a hacked ff18 sprint hotspot would work, if someone wants to try flashing it let me know and ill change op and link to it

I would say Titanium Backup, Wifi tether for root users, and Rom toolbox are must have apps.
The toolbox and TB are both really awesome and packed to bursting with features
Oh and +1 to the guy above me on the ad blocker app, it really helps.
Oh and some sort of file browser, root browser has a nice GUI but tends to crash a lot, Root explorer is a little more reliable

What i got on board my s3
What I am running is Frankenstein kill joy7 2.1 with the standard AGAT kernel .3.2 which comes with the ROM. It launches on APEX which for me is no big deal. Also Frankenstein also comes with almost no bloat ware.I have been through a few roms and found this one really nice. I have used CM10 and it was ok for me but liked the single core when the screen was off. Titanium is always excellent and even Pimp my ROM or ROM Customizer app. and Goo manager if you are ever plan on switching your ROM. If you are new at swapping ROMs biggest advice anyone could have told me is to do ALOT ALOT ALOT of research prior to switching to a new ROM nothing is more frustrating the a boot loop, soft brick or worse a BRICK. hope it helps and welcome to the custom ROM it gets better from here on out
Oh yes yes, usually some sort of build rpop editor andthe following recovery and managing apps (either one)
ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) + Rom Manager
TWRP and Goo manager
I would also HIGHLY recommend doing a lot of research (like the guy above me said) and you seem inclined so it shouldnt be a problem, a good start would be going to xda-university.com and reading through the entire "Users" section, it very thorough and easy to understand

Yup. Akl those listed will work just fine on note 2. Just make sure you read the directions and descriptions carefully, no need to enable all those just because you can.

I only do the ones I understand! If you go to the forum for this app there are tones of explanation of what each tweak or mod does. THE ONLY ONES I DIDNT USE WERE THE CAMERA MODS DUE TO THE FACT I HEARD THEY BRAKE THE CAMERA. Other than that just make a nand and tweak away! How do I know its working...i guess i dont. It seems faster, multitasking, internet and data...to me it seems to be working. My only concern was if you invoke a tweat or mod that doesnt play well with a tweat or mod in your rom already...they tend to fight each other and can make things sluggish. I noticed that the build.prop edits are put at the end of the build.prop file under /system and also in /system/etc/init.d. In the ladder of the locations i think is where Platt puts the tweaks for my rom Synergy. Thats my 2 cents! I have been running safe with the mods and tweaks for over 24 hours now and no issues!

I ended up using pimp my rom apk due to the easiness of the UI! And there are plenty of videos explaining what each tweak does on his forum page.

I've tested a few, then used 3 different benchmark tools and speed test apps.
Many of the ones I've tested obviously require custom kernels, etc or otherwise have 0 effect. Ex: vsync.....
As a good reminder, before you start experimenting, make sure you back up your device with a fresh nandroid.

I have decided ro go back 100% stock im going all the way to before ma7 and going to stay there until they put out anothe update I feel I got the best experience. I bought the allshare dongle and cant use with a custom kernel and I use it almost everyday so that sucks but other wise everything was working great just cant use allshare
