Quicker way to backup

I'm currently using mybackup pro to do backups and restores between rom installs. It retains market links, application databases, and other system settings. My only problem is that it is SO SLOW to backup and restore. It takes probably over and hour to backup my applications and another hour to restore them. I don't even have that many. Is there any quicker way of doing this? I'd like to be able to install a new rom sometime before the singularity.

Go to the Market and use Titanium backup. It backs up your apps over to your SD card along with app data. You can batch the backups and restores as well as schedule your backups. You can also use AppBrain. It updates which apps you download from the Market and then does a back up. But I think App brain only works with market apps. I'm not 100% on Appbrain.

How long does it take for titanium backup to do its thing?

The back up takes me a few minutes. 10 if I have a ton of apps. The restore is pretty annoying since you have to click install for EVERY APP YOU HAVE.

I realized this after running a backup and installing a new rom. Looks like you have to buy the pro version. I did and it restores automatically.

Use clockworkmod to do a backup, backs up the entire phone or titanium backup to backup just apps and data.
For just SMS I use WaveSecure.

Any of these requires root?

I reckon, clockwork needs root.

Titanium Backup needs root too, fyi

and, so, as you require root for both, have clockworkmod create a nandroid backup...
the created backup is stored on your sd card, make sure you copy it to another location as well (in case your sd card gets crippled )

Seems like both app needs root.

they DO require root...

also, quick question for this thread:
if i create a nandroid backup, do i still need to worry about my apps completely working (and therefore should also create a Ti backup)?

Nandroid backup is indispensable if everything goes tits up, so I make one prior to flashing a new ROM, at least then I know worst case scenario I can get back to where I am now. I use Ti to restore apps and, more importantly, their associated data after doing a clean install of a ROM, also I can schedule Nandroid to regularly backup apps and data for me

I just rooted my Wildfire and got CWM recovery. Now am I wondering if it's possible to flash a new ROM on my device (CyanogenMod 7) and keep all my current installed apps and stuff.

You'll most probably encounter a bootloop. Use backup apps like Titanium to backup your apps. Other stuff on your SD Card like music, videos and pictures wont be affected.

Ah k, I did a whole backup with Titanium, does that also backup text messages and stuff?

Best way to back up when changing roms?

Newbie question here.
What are you guys using to back up your phone when you flash a new rom?
Is there an easy way to reload all the old apps when you flash a new rom? or do you have to reload everything manually.
I just put the starburst rom on my phone and really liking it. I assume I will want a flash a later version at some point and am wondering if there is an easier way to the apps back and such after flashing.

TitaniumBackup. When backing up, I would just backup the apps, and not the system data. I have StarBurst too, and it works great.
FYI if you have the free version, when you restore apps you have to manually hit install, done, install, done. If you buy Pro, then I believe you won't need to.

Exactly what Apoc said. But just buy it. Its WAY worth it

Be careful using Titanium backup to restore apps. It can cause big time problems when restoring backed up apps from different ROM bases.
AppBrain is a good app that will keep track of all the apps you have installed and you can use it as a reference to reinstall them from the Market. This is what I do, then I use Titanium Backup to restore the data to those apps.

I been searching the forum and having a hard time looking for the type of help I need. I have a Desire Z running Cyanogen Mod I think version 9. I want to back everything up and restore it to an HTC One. What is the best/easiest method? I want to keep ALL apps/data. Will Rom Manager or Titanium Backup do the Trick?

I would advise against it, not only are you going from one phone to another but different android versions. If it were me I would just install apps from market and then set up everything fresh, but feel free to try titanium, some of it could restore ok
