[HELP] How to install games and applications directly to SD memory? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

2 days ago I bought my Galaxy W soon after bought a Memory Card 32 GB, I wonder how do I install all applications and games on the card, since the phone does not have enough memory for all. I've done using the Root update.zip, and now what do I do?
Sorry my English, I am Brazilian and I'm using Google Translator.

Hi.....read this post (in full)....

If you already have root, then you carry out the instructions from step 2. A ROM that has a built in user function to use your memory card as internal storage is Arco68's CM9. Complete ALL the steps (from step 2) as detailed and in order before the ROM install (flash). Once you have done that and set your phone back up, you access the function by pressing...
Menu>>settings>>storage>>menu>>advanced.....and "check" the box.....and reboot. You should try to perform this swap before you install any apps, as by performing this swap, you *may* be faced with forced closes for any apps installed prior to the swap.....
BTW......CM9 is ICS, if you want the same in JB, it,s CM10 and the procedure is completely different. In the same thread you will see that Arco's CM10 has been linked to.....but there are 2 versions of this ROM.... The first is Arco's original version, the second is a version of that same ROM that an XDA member called Temenalie has modified that performs the memory card mount swap during flashing (I've flashed this version and it works) as there is no user option to do this after flashing (other than changing some of the ROM's code).......
You should note that by default, your apps are always going to be installed to internal memory, so you will still have to move them to your SD card. There is a free app on the play store that allows you to "batch" move your apps....it's called Gemini App Manager. There are some good tutorials on the web that show you how to use it.....I've installed this app myself, so again, I know it works for this.........
Good luck....

Or you can just download link2sd from anywhere you prefer. And go to setting of link2sd go to install locations and choose your sdcard. Reboot your phone and then all apps you want to install will go directly to your sdcard, even apps that shouldn't be saved in sdcard will be install in your sdcard too so be sure to move it. Hope this helps

As far as i remember it only have 2 choices only. But i could be wrong though. The choices are internal and sd card. But i don't completely sure. Correct me.
But if theoretically what keith says i guess he is right, i forgot to mention you need to swap first then do the link2sd option
Thanks for you keith almost give him incomplete information

After doing Root, used the MiniTool partition to my SD CARD, then Link2SD installed on the phone, I made all settings and apparently it worked, because I can move all installed apps to the SD CARD, the settings of the device shows that I am consuming the external memory, I will continue doing tests. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll keep watching the forum!

[Q] Apps to SD on FroYo...

My phone is debranded, rooted, has clockwork mod and the gold card. I have also flashed the phone with NexTSense 5.0 FroYo by NeoPhyTe.
Now, I went to applictaions, and tried to mave some apps to SD, however the button ("Move to SD") is grey and I am not able to mave any apps to SD.
I have been reading about partitions on SD, however I don't know if that is for moving apps to SD or some other function.
If anyone knows, could you please enlighten me please?
Also, if anyone know (I persume most of you do), what does Radio mean? I have searched "Radio on Android OS" however it seems to be and FM Radio, is that what it is supposed to be?!
Thank you for your time!
Hi !panda,
There's an app called app2sd on market. Also titanium backup. Your phone needs to be rooted I think. I've managed to move some hefty programs like earth to the SD with little if any gain in speed but at least some satisfaction. Good luck with that.

None of my apps will move to SD, same as you with the button being grey.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Also, Radio is sort of the image file for your phone wich handles the calls and data and such. some radios get better reception and make the phone run better overall.
For instance, my desire was getting trippy after i used a custom rom. I updated the radio and everythings fine now
You need to partition your SD card. Install rom manager from the market. You can use this to partition the card but it will wipe the card so backup the contents to your pc first. Partition with 512mb then 32mb swap. Copy your contents back to card. Then install either spare parts or modinstalllocation from the market, both allow you to choose where apps are installed and will open up apps2sd.

Black Notes Hybrid 2nd Gen memory swapped BIG PROBLEM.

I've succeeded with [ROM] Black Notes Hybrid 2nd Gen by doing:
DO FULL WIPE TO YOUR DEVICE 2x (flashing newer stock [I8150DXLM3 - Malaysia - New] before is recommended)
DO RESTORE VIA CWM SELECT RESTORE DATA
REBOOT
DONE
everything was smooth & fresh everything is close to perfection. I was greatly surprise with it performance & smoothness thanks all to @Rio Saputro
the problem comes when i've successfully done memory swap as you can see on the attachment. it work well, just that i find it weird when i restore USER APPs + Data with titanium backup it seem restoring the app to internal memory (restored whatsapp app + data used up like +-20mb of internal memory).
I tried install app from play store some of it didn't used up internal memory but for like fruit ninja it used up like 3~5mb of internal memory.
once i've done memory swap i done like 20-30 apps restore using titanium backup when i reboot the phone it laggy & spiky then when i check the storage my internal memory left +- 500mb...
i've done re-flashing rom but still the same & also tried to changed the setting of restore app memory but nothing works.
anyone faced this? before this i was using Cow ROM v7 (Bionic Cow 2) but works perfectly which the rom comes with memory swap.
i've been deciding my next step of solution :
1. redo memory swap
2. do this (no idea if it's work on phone or even GB)b [MOD] MicroSD 2 Internal Memory Swap w/ICS support
3. worst come to worst stay unswap that's means wasted 64GB
SANDISK MOBILE ULTRA MICRO SD which cost me a bomb
I didn't know sgw can support 64gb of microsd card.. could it be the source of the problem?

Restoring TB backed up User + Data not recommended when restoring to new ROM.
What ROM was TB backup made with??
Don't restore App Data from one ROM to a different ROM.
In your TB pics, 1 & 3.......Internal Memory is exactly the same!!! 947/948MB
Are you speaking about your Internal SD?? [Which now has Large Physical SD Card Mapped]
I would also say that quite a lot of the SD card is unusable due to what darkteb says, 32G may be the limit for SD cards on our device....
Pic 3 says Total 59G, usable 39G....does your App Data take up 20G??
Android Default location for Apps is Phone Memory, not any SD!!
AFAIK, and understand, with a mount swap implemented, External SD card [1.8] and Internal SD/USB Storeage [64/32??] behave same as always, just reversed......
Moved Apps will go to External, which is your 1.8......no sign of any moved Apps!!!....have you moved any Apps???
So, all your Apps are on Internal Phone Memory.......about 192M of Apps, is that about correct?? [947M Free/192 Used]

4. not true. i've search & discover all other android forum most of android can support it simply just insert the 64gb sd card to phone & format it under setting then its usable.
5. oh..that 20GB is made up of my own songs video and other media stuff. nothing to do with other apps.
6. Really? before this i used Cow ROM v7 (Bionic Cow 2) i've all those app that i backup with TB before & it didn't used up like 500mb of my device memory also.
7. i've not move any apps to external
8. right. but for some apps that required download data after installation the data will store in USB storage.
Appreciate your Help.

yup most android can support it's same format of sd FAT32. just format the sd with your phone under storage setting & use.

I think what u did for swapping was correct except the restoring process. U can see that the 1.83GB (internal sdcard) was full. U should restore them to "Original Location". Select his under Preferences->Restore backup to...
Another comment is the Class of ur MicroSD. If u are using Class 4, swapping is not a good attempt, it will cause slow loading and laggy to ur device.

Hi yewsiong......
I think you may be correct in identifying the SD Card Class as a possible problem.
Thanks to OP for info regarding the 64G SD, but the class would also be crucial. [Good to know the SGS will accept 64G Card!!!]
Not sure where you see the 1.83G on Internal Card. In OP's pics??
TB pics point to nothing on 1.8G SD [Called External]...the Storage pic (2) does not show the top of the screen, SD Card Total Space bit missing, but I suspect it will show 1.7G....not sure where TB gets the 1.83G from???
For OP:
I still contend that restoring User Apps +Data is not good practise, and is not recommended if you have flashed a new ROM whether new Android Version, or same Version, like 2.3.6......not all 2.3.6 ROM's are the same, as we know.
Most custom ROM Devs say do not restore User Data!!! [even sometimes when going from one version to another version of their ROM.]

Hi Irish~
take a look at the bottom of TB pics. 1.7GB is the available storage but 1.83GB is the total space (some space will be taken due to formatting and partitioning)
From what I know so far, SOME developers do not recommend users to restore files from previous ROM is not mainnly because of firmware version but the permission problem which lead to FC. (For example, u allowed ROMtoolbox to have SU to run some tasks in previous ROM but haven't enabled it in the new one, it can cause FC problem)
It can simply be solved by using fix permission via CWM or ROM Manager anyway.
However, if u want to restore apps from different firmware such as from GB 2.3.6 to CM9 (ICS 4.0.X), some apps are just incompatible. That's why acro68 asked us to re-download from market rather than restoring it.
Besides, even restoring contacts/messages could lead to FC problem too though it is a bit unusual.

Yup. I know that.
U can restore some of them 1st then use TB to move them into ur huge "internal sd". Two times should be able to finish.
After u have completed, delete the old TB backup folder and remake TB backup for this ROM. Hence, the original location will be what u want for future restoring on SWAPPED rom.

[GUIDE] [FAT32] [EXT2] [any android] How to Partition your Android MicroSD Card
NOTE: I’m not responsible if you brick your phone, be very careful.

Borrowed these Screenshots from:
sayhellotwoheaven ( Go give HIM thanks too!!)
Requirements:
- A Smartphone
- Root
- Busybox
- Android
- A FORMATTED 2GB MicroSD Card or Higher
- The MiniTool Partition Wizard (Free)
- Link2SD
Step 1: Partition your MicroSD Card
Note: To make this post, I will use a 16 GB card as an example. You can use any size you prefer.
First: Connect your MicroSD with the adapter to your computer and open the MiniTool Partition Wizard.
You can see the principal partition of you memory card. Right Click on it and Choose Delete.
Insure that you select your memory card and NOT your hard drive!!!!!
Next: right click on your memory card and click "Create". Choose the size you want for External Memory. Remember to leave the amount that you want to use for Internal Memory FREE then click OK.
Next, click on the Unallocated space; click yes to create a new partition. WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!. Click OK .
Now click OK then click apply (TOP-LEFT CORNER)
Wait for the action finish.
When finished: disconnect your MicroSD Card and follow step 2 on your phone.
Step 2: Setting Up Your Phone: Link2SD
Now, proceed to configure the EXT2 partition for apps partition (INTERNAL MEMORY) on your phone.
First Install Link2SD on your phone.
Shut down your Phone and put the partitioned MicroSD card in your phone. Now Start your Phone and open "Link2SD", and give Root Permissions. Select ext2, wait while script is created then reboot your phone.
WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!
Note: If you have Link2SD already installed, you will need to clear cache and data.
Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>click Link2SD
Select clear CACHE and then select clear DATA.
WARNING! – USE EXT2 NOT EXT4!!!
Select OK AND REBOOT AT THIS POINT.
After rebooting: open Link2SD and go to Settings, and choose these parameters below:
Now, when your install an app, it will automatically be moved to the EXT2 partition. Remember, when you want to install an app and want to have it in your phone memory, uncheck "Auto Link" in Link2SD Settings, then install the Application. Afterwards, recheck "Auto Link". With Link2SD you can install, uninstall, Link and remove links of your apps. You can also do a few other things that are described in the app’s description on the Play Store.

This worked great, I am now able to install many more apps on a T-Mobile concord android phone. I do have a question, even though I am able to install many more apps, I still see the internal memory space getting lower and lower, does that mean that every app I install, it will still require some space in the internal memory? do I always need to move the apps to sd card in order to save internal memory space? is there a way to move all the app into the external space partition? Again thank you so much for putting this information together, I can now use T-Mobile concord phone with many more apps as I used to.

If you partitioned the SD card and inserted it in the phone BEFORE you installed link2SD and followed ALL of the instructions, step by step, then a very small amount of space is stored on the actual internal memory.
FYI - You can uninstall all of the T-Mobile apps. My account, TV, the Samsung account thing, layer?, etc... DO NOT uninstall anything google or Android. E.G GMAIL, CALENDERS, or anything else that you are unsure of.

BTW - My new phone is:
Android version: 2.3.7
Kernel: 2.6.35.7+
Build Number: V768V1.0.0B19
It was already factory when I rooted.
I had to use SUPERSU. SUPERUSER installed and granted permissions but would not update the binary. it would fail on checking to see if superuser worked.
after i partition it can i put it back to normal? if i change phones or whatever
Yes. Just repartition the entire card to fat/fat32 after deleting both partitions, with the mini partition tool.

Partition the card then just copy files like you normally would. There is a chance the concord cannot read a card that big.

[Q] Move apps from phone storage to USB storage (internal sd card)

Hi,
I have Android 4.1.2 and trying to move apps from phone storage which is only 2GB to USB storage (11.25 GB). But for every app, movable or not when I try to move - hit the "move to sd card" button- . It says "unable to move app. Note enough storage space".
I don't have external SD card right now and I only want to move them to internal. Do you know what can I do?
Thanks

I have Android 4.1.2 and trying to move apps from phone storage which is only 2GB to USB storage (11.25 GB). But for every app, movable or not when I try to move - hit the "move to sd card" button- . It says "unable to move app. Note enough storage space".
I don't have external SD card right now and I only want to move them to internal. Do you know what can I do?
Thanks

U need to change where the phone stores data from ext SD card to internal SD card, u should be able to do it with an app like ROM toolbox, u need to be rooted though, or go buy a sdcard, u can get a 8gb at Walmart for like $12

How do I change that? So far as much as I tried with app2sd, titanium, and rom toolbox, they only let me choose between phone and external. they don't even consider internal sd card.
Unable to move apps to internal usb storage
Somebody plz let me know any workaround for moving apps to Internal USB storage. Under settings>application manager> there is an option to move apps to external sd card only. Is it possible to install/move apps to internal usb storage (around 11.5 GB). Please help.

All the roots apps are for moving apps only to external sd card and to change the default storage location to either internal storage or external sd card. None have the option to change it to internal USB storage.

See idk because when I do app to SD on my ROM it goes to my USB storage, which is the internal SD card, 11.9gb, not to my external SD card I have to manually put the apps on external if I want so theoretically it should be putting them there by default, what ROM are u on? Are u rooted? Ever use an app like storage swap or anything? Shouldn't be installing apps in ur system partition, 2gb, that should only be for system apps..?

What I'm saying is I don't know because ur system, no matter what shouldn't be installing user apps in the system partition, my best advice would be to back up what u want from the phone and use Odin to do a complete wipe and unroot to stock 4.1.2 ROM, this will erase all data on the phone and restore it to stock status, from there u can reroot and use TB to get ur apps back, somewhere along the lines it sounds like ur system got confused or something because it shouldn't be putting anything in that 2gb partition, that's only for system and system app data not user, that's the whole reason to have it partitioned off, if it was me that's what I would do, just start over and see if that was it, sorry wish I could help more but I don't have ur device in front of me so I don't know

Thanks for your reply. I have mounted an external sd card and using link2sd to move apps to it. One thing I noticed that with sd card mounted, when I move apps to external sd card, some part of the app moves to the usb storage and also the app size increases after doing so. However, still there is no direct way of moving/installing apps to usb storage without an external sd card.

Actually, the options under Apps2SD in Rom Toolbox Pro are: 1) Auto, 2) Internal & 3) SD card!!
So? anyone could finally move the apps to the INTERNAL memory (those almost 12 GB) and not to the real external SD card?
Cheers!
Not me, but apparently the user above you was able.

I tried to use ROM Toolbox's app manager to move apps to the famous "internal SD" of the GS2.
When I move apps to SD (without an actuel SD card), I get no error but the app seems to have simply vanished from the phone with no memory actually freed on the system partition. Does someone understand what happens ?

What is your ROM? Most of my apps go to internal sd storage. The only apps that are on internal are system/came with ROM. I do believe data resides internally on the 2gb partition, but rest is on internal SD. Perhaps, you need a fresh install.

Actually I'm running the stock 4.1.2 ROM of the GT-I9100, and all apps go to the 2 GB partition :/

Okay, I use ROM Toolbox Pro. I uninstalled an app that was on internal partition, went to ROM toolbox> app2sd and it has three options: auto, internal, and SD. I selected SD, then reinstalled app, and then checked, app is now on internal sd, (not extsd).

Because I am sure I am not clear, internal partition = 2gb phone storage/internal storage, internal SD = 11.29 GB SD that resides on phone. My apps are going to internal SD when I select SD in ROM toolbox options, NOT to the removable external SD card I put in my phone
The problem with other app2sd apps is that they try to install to external SD, hence why your apps disappear, (for those apps, you need ext SD partitioned with iirc ext4). Try romtoolbox first, open, go to configure apps2sd, and it should recognize your onboard SD card)

Well, it is possible it is the stock ROM. You could try a
factory reset in your custom recovery and see what happens or full wipe and install a custom stock ROM, (backup 1st, make sure you have appropriate recovery version for installing ROM, etc).
Apps to ExtSdCard
Since I have a 16 GB ExtSdCard, I want to install and run apps from that on Android 4.1.2 on a Samsung GalaxyTab2 7. I am using Directory Bind now, which can't seem to work with all apps, so I am wondering if anyone has come up with or knows about a more perfect solution...it was no problem with Android 2.3 on my old rooted phone, but no so with this rooted Tablet...

[Q] How to move apps to external sd card?

I have the Samsung Galaxy SII T989. It's rooted with Chameleon rom on it. How can I move the apps to my external sd card and not my internal sd card. The internal sd card is 11.5GB and my external sd card is 29.5gb. When I try to move apps from like Link2SD, etc. It installs them to my internal and not my external.
Use titanium back up to move to SD card. There's a move to SD card option, to PROVE it works here's some screenshots from 5 seconds ago lol

I already tried Titanium Backup and still doesn't work. If I try going into settings and click 'Move to SD Card" it moves it into the internal storage. Its acting like the internal storage is the sd card. I posted few screen shots in to what I'm trying to say. When I plug my phone into my pc, it does show up my internal storage and my external sd card separate.

Well that's the same for most phones. I have the main memory in my phone. Then the internal sd card, along with external, there's no way to choose where is there? Couldn't you just use root browser go into system apps and move the apk to your SD card? I've done that before, worked good for me. Or use clean master and move it. I've done all of the above across almost every manufacture. I've worked with sisters LG's my HTC, dads samsung, friends moto, and all those methods have worked perfect I will see if I can find anything tomorrow, lol gotta be up in like 5 hours xD

I myself run cm 11.... In the menu when you're looking through all apps, if you click on it there should be a option to move it. Or at least for me there is....
