I tried to post this on cyanogen mods website but I was not allowed to post
I bought a AT&T Galaxy S III for my wife this weekend and ran into several problems installing cyanogenmod 10 on it.
Installing:
First the Heimdall program failed to "initialize interface" and no matter what I tried it failed to connect.
I managed to get it installed by using the ODIN to flash different clockwork mod (but that errored out on the when I went to flash cyanogenmod 10 )
So I used that to root it then installed cyanogenmod via rom manager by having that install the right clockwork mod then cyanogen 10.
It would be nice if they provided a ODIN Image for cyanogenmod
VoiceMail:
voicemail was missing its number after I installed cyanogen mod.
It took me forever to get this correct. Found out that you just forward to your mobile number. In the phone settings. or dial **004*PhoneNumber#
Also Google voice failed to setup correctly as well and had to use the **004 path.
Skype:
downloading via google play kept returning "package file invalid" (I cleared /cache and dalvik cache still failed) I ended up downloading it via the androiddrawer website and it installed (sideload?).
The problem with this is when using the voice or video chat the other side just hears very load static. Found someone claiming these problems came from cyanogenmod 10 not using the correct mics all the time. This is still an issue.
My questions are these issues fixed in the most recent version of Cyanogen the M releases? And if not are they known and someone working on them?
And does anyone have a fix for the static issue in skype?

Unless your wife can troubleshoot issues why install a custom ROM on her phone. My wife would kill me since she has no clue but I digress.
Why not flash 10.1 on the phone and download the gapps from the goo.im site and see if hat helps your issues. Maybe you got a bad flash and/or download. For the short amount of time I tried it I didn't have any of these issues you do. Those don't seem to be any bugs in the known bugs beyond maybe the static. Task's AOKP is another one to try if you want a custom stable rom.
Try another ROM or maybe a fairly stock rooted rom and see if that clears up any issues.
Are you using a Mac or a PC ? You mentioned Odin (for windows PC's) and heimdall (for all others). Honestly the best way is to flash a stock rooted ROM from the no tripping flash counter Rooting thread in Development and then flashing CWM in rom manager. Limiting having to flash in odin is the far better option. I've never ha d a bad flash in a custom recovery but everytime I have to use Odin I get extremely nervous.
Read Beerdroid's guide and you can't go wrong

agreed.
there are a couple good and stable stock/touchwiz custom roms as well as AOSP-based roms on this forum. i would steer clear of nightlies and super-custom roms that are always posting new updates. these are less stable imo.
put something on her phone thats solid and be sure to use the proper wiping and flashing procedures when you do so. wiping/flashing correctly makes ALL the difference on the software's performance while it's running on a device

Well I went with Cyanogen because I used it on my old droid incredible and its was great. I also want a stock like rom because I personally use a stock Nexus 4 and want my wifes phone to be similar and wanted to remove all the retarded extra apps atnt and samsung threw on.
So no idea if the 10.1 would fix the static issue then?

I can't say for sure but download and see if it works out of you. Thing with bugs is that they aren't always reproducible. I don;t see your issue as a known bug on 4.2.2. There are a few other ROM like super nexus in the dev section that are a practically stock nexus feel. Why not give that one a try ? Give AOKP a try as well.
Here's super nexus:

i'm an advocate of AOKP, but thats just my 2 cents. there is a very solid 4.1.2 milestone out and their 4.2.2 milestone will be released very soon.
although faryaab is a great kid and puts some good stuff together, remember that supernexus is a port and you could experience bugs (as i did). again, just my opinion
I recently unlocked and rooted my LGOG to the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 aokp ROM. Since installing the ROM I've been having on and off data problems, as in sometimes my data works but for days at times it doesn't (in the same areas as when it previously worked). My WiFi is working fine but this data problem is irritating especially since I'm out of contact when I leave WiFi range.
I searched the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 thread for possible solutions but no one else has reported this problem. I also have searched this Q&a thread and saw people suggesting to update the PRL but I am unable to find how to do that with this new ROM (I knew how to do it on the Stock UI).
So any help would be greatly appreciated. I love everything else about this ROM except for the data problem so I would prefer to keep it for daily use.

have you tried to swap out your apns.xml
http://d-h.st/Xin
try this one ... download extract use a rootfile browser replace the apns.xlm in system/etc giving it the same permissions as the other on rename the old to apns.xml.bak just in case the outcome is worse... reboot into recovery wipe cache and fix permissions... let me know how that goes for you...also can try restoring efs .... and can try going back to a stock based rom update prl and profile the reflash and check again
Thanks for the advice Spleef but unfortunately the apns.xml file did not work, so I guess the next step would be restoring efs. How would I go about doing that?

I can't get any stock zip to update my prl n that ...
Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Tried Lifeless which turned out to be a horrible choice because the phone now randomly reboots. Upon flashing the ROM, it wiped my SD card and in the process deleted TWRP from my device. One solution I have found is to flash another ROM (I'm going to go with Vectus) but without FreeGee I cannot access recovery to flash the new ROM. I cannot keep my device from rebooting long enough to access the Play Store and combined with the fact that I need to sign in the Play Store to enable my Google account on my device (therefore eliminating the option of installing any programs online), I am unable to access FreeGee.
I originally started this process to just fix my data (by installing a Stock ROM to update my PRL) but using everything I have done has exacerbated or created more problems. If there are any solutions or suggestions from any of the more experienced users I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

wow trying to not be offended by that but if i was you do lgnpst.. the advice everyone has offered including myself was solid...we cannot help the fact that it didnt go right for you obviously must be something missed or done incorrectly since multitudes of others have followed this same advice and links and recovered just fine..your best bet lgnpst back to stock..gl im done offering advice now
LOL spleef you miscontrued the tone of my post. The "more experienced users" was not a slight against you or anyone else who has offered advice, it was in reference to myself since I am continually creating more errors. I am sorry if I offended you but that was honestly not the intention of my post. I appreciate all the advice you have given me, honestly I would be lost without it. I'll update with results.

Just to reenforce what sleef said. LGNPST with the ZVB.bin. That will definitely fix your phone. Another option is use teeny bin. Then in recovery, flash the stock odexed ROM by TheShadow1. It might not cute your problem, but it's a shorter way that might work.

Thank you everyone for your help (including you, spleef lol) I used LGNPST and got my phone back to stock then re-rooted and unlocked it. I'm going to try Dirty Unicorns again with the updated PRL and hopefully that fixes the original data problem. I just can't find the GAPPS 4.2.2 file now for Dirty Unicorns, when following the link on the OP the file is no longer available.
Nonetheless this was a great learning experience and thank you again!
let me know how that goes. as im also having data issue. im in the city all day and my reception/data would go from 4 bar to nothing in a matter of minutes lol. I would have to off/on data to get back my bars and data which is odd

Hey guys, long time browser, first time poster, but not a reason for celebration, alas.I come to you guys out of frustration after hours of being unable to solve my issue cruising the interwebs, and the thread title kinda says it all.
To start from the beginning, I recently delved into the rooted world by means of towelroot (kitkat 4.4.2), installed xposed framework, got the modules XBlast and XPrivacy, and you might have guessed, fiddled around with each. Everything was fine and dandy until I was having issues receiving/making calls through an app (LINE, if you know it), and so I attempted to figure out what the issue was, very much assuming XPrivacy to be the culprit. Couldn't get it to work, which is when I decided to restore my backup I made using Clockwork. Should have been nice and smooth sailing, but...
Upon having it "restored" I booted on into it, which is when I got smacked in the face; as soon as I'm booted, most, if not all, my apps are reporting that they have stopped working by a bombardment of error messages in endless succession, making just browsing the home screens almost impossible. Also with this barrage came the lack of cell service, a nice white n' slashed out circle in what should be my bars of signal. I tried again to restore my phone from my backup. Same issue, but I did notice during the recovery it made mention of something like "secure_android" missing? This sent me on my hours of head banging, turning up *possible* resolutions, which didn't work. I've tried flashing the stock bootloader, gapps, and nothing. Now, my data and apps are all still there and I can get into recovery without issue, it's just the pain of not being able to actually using any of it.
I have debugging switched on on my phone, but do not have some sort of adb app installed on it, nor could I access any market place to try. I'm not so sure I would be able to install anything on my phone given my current circumstances, anyway.
Please, if any of you out there have some idea as to what is going on, I'm all eyes (as ears on a forum don't work so well)! If there are any details I may have omitted and so on, just let me know and I'll supply it--
Thank you all so much in advance for any possible steps that may resolve this issue!

Sounds like your backup was a downgrade (old version).
I would suggest doing a factory reset, test it. If that doesn't do it, use Odin to flash stock firmware (which can be found in the general section stickies).

Thanks for responding! I did try a wipe data/factory reset via CWM, then restored from there. Didn't work. I'm not sure if there is a particular order in how it should be done such as "factory reset, reboot phone into recovery, restore" or if I should be able to get away with "factory reset, restore", the latter being what I did. I also got a hold of a bootloader file and modem base band for build I747UCUFNE4, if those would be useful in any way.
If it's of any help, I somehow got the Unofficial Omni ROM 4.4.4 to work without any issue, but not quite happy enough with the overall interface of it, yet slowly adapting having installed a touchwiz launcher just to hold me over.
I've tried locating the backup CWM created on my phone so that I could store it on my computer and generate another backup as from what I read, the unpaid version only allows you one at a time, but had no luck digging through my directories. I'm currently investigating this online nandroid backup thing to see if there's anything to it.
I've also come across some file labeled "I747UCUFNE4_Stock_Rooted_Deodex" which is a zip, but I'm reading ODIN uses tar as it's compression of choice? Does this mean I should flash this file via recovery, or? Also, the file size is a whopping 920MB or so... that normal? (Edit: this is where I found the file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788357 which says to flash in recovery)
Thanks again for your response! I was really thinking my problem would just be glanced over.

I meant factory reset without restoring.
But now that you're back up and running, there's no need for it (unless you flash another ROM). You could flash NE4 if you wanna get back on the official ROM but there are also tw custom ROM which you can look into (you're currently using an aosp one).
As for the 920mb, yeah.. That's Sammy at its best, bloating their ROMs.

You think it would be safe to do a factory reset and try to restore just the data from my recovery? Or is it possible that the data is somehow the issue with everything going wonky?
I'm very new to the ROM thing, Omni was easy to get up and running, but actually playing with a ROM was more of a last ditch effort to see if the problem would be resolved that way and give any sort of indication as to what the issue was (still haven't the sllightest). It's currently not rooted (at least according to my root checker) and the towelroot method doesn't seem to work on it. I kinda need to be rooted if I wanted to make a nandroid, I really want to make a back up of what I currently have set in case I screw the pooch trying to get things back to "normal", yet I'm afraid of overwriting my only recovery and losing whatever data is embedded, though I'm not too deeply saddened by the thought of not having chat histories and whatnot, it would just be nice to have. Perhaps you have thoughts, or anyone else out there, on the matter? I know my first step would be to at least root my current ROM, then back up, I found this as a means to root Omni (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672160), but how do I determine whether I'm using an ARM based or x86 based device?
Good to know the file size for the stock ROM is considered normal. I didn't even consider carrier/Samsung bloat to have such a huge impact.
Thanks, yet again!
Q&A for [ROM] [04/10/14] [Unofficial] CM 10 for HTC Desire 300 [Public Beta]
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] [04/10/14] [Unofficial] CM 10 for HTC Desire 300 [Public Beta]. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Hello,
I had a problem with my HTC desire 300 and I took it to a servis, there they put the cwm on my phone but my wifi isn't working, or its working a little bit and then it says that I can't connect.
So, I'm new here and I don't understand all the words here and I'm confused, so can you please explain me how to restore my htc to stock rom?
Interesting, I didn't even know my thread had a Q&A section
May I ask what was wrong with the phone before you had it serviced?
So the service center unlocked your bootloader and flashed a custom recovery?
They deliberatly voided your waranty? This sounds wrong on so many levels, please tell me you gave them permission to do so.
cwm is clockworkmod recovery btw and you are asking in the cm10 thread, does that imply that they also flashed this rom?
I don't know what to say to this except get your money back and/or sue them unless you actually asked them to do so.
Flashing a userdebug build on an enduser phone in a service center without being asked to do so is criminaly negligant imho.
The wifi in this rom is working fine (at least in the latest available build) so it might also be a hardware problem.
Could you tell me the version number of the rom you have on your device? (Settings->About Phone->CyanogenMod version)
To return to stock you would need the backup of your original rom and use cwm to restore the device.
That's why the OP includes a reminder that you should always make a backup before flashing a different rom.
There are no official htc RUUs available for this device, so without that backup you are out of luck.
I couldn't turn on my phone, it was stuck with the HTC logo, so I took it to the service and they told me it was a software problem and that they can fix it. After fixing it wifi worked 3-4 days and then stopped, all passwords are forgotten and its says '' Failed to connect network''. I know that its the clockworkmod when I press volume down and power.
When I go to recovery it says cwm advanced edition 5 cwm base version v6.0.3.7 philZ
I'm sorry If I asked in the wrong field but I'm so frustrated and just want my wifi to work somehow..
I don't mind you asking. I was just surprised to get a pm from a bot saying that my thread now has a Q&A.
I'm glad to see that it's still the stock rom you are on. But I don't know why it would bootloop or suddenly loose wifi.
Just out of curiosity, is the bootloader still locked? And is it the broken philz recovery with the graphical glitches that crashes on exit?
I don't understand why they would need to change the recovery. If the device is not repairable via factory reset or original recovery.
They should've just sent it in to htc for a replacement unit.
There are 2 things you can try now:
Try the factory reset option in the bootloader and if it doesn't work get in contact with htc customer support.
or
Replace the recovery, backup your system, check if wifi works in the cm10 rom and if it doesn't work
then reflash your backup before asking the htc customer support for assistance.
But be aware that the more you mess around with the device the less inclined htc will be willing to help you without charging you for the repair.
I tried the factory reset and nothing happens, still no wifi.
How can I replace the recovery?
Thank you!
First you need to set up your pc so it can communicate with the device via the android debug bridge.
There should be many tutorials on how to do that on this site. Just find one that explains how to get adb and fastboot working.
Since your radio and build version are different then mine I'd like to be on the safe side since I don't know what the service center did.
So activate the usb debug in the stock rom, and open a terminal.
Type: "adb shell" to connect to your phone and then type "cat /proc/emmc" and post the output here.
It should look something like:
Code:
dev: size erasesize name
mmcblk0p17: 000ffa00 00000200 "misc"
mmcblk0p34: 00fffe00 00000200 "recovery"
[...]
thank youuu so much I will try it..
I'll take it to the service again, and I'll let you know what he told me about the new recovery, and the wifi and everything that he made on my phone :crying:
Don't forget to ask them why they think it would be better to void a customers warenty by unlocking the bootloader,
instead of using it to get the manufacturer to replace the device if it's broken.
just to let you know that I took my htc to the service again, and they told me that the wifi is broken and they need to change the wifi chip or card I think...
Google Play has stopped working
Hi guys.
I have problem with Google play. I have instaled gapps for CM 10 (downloaded from cyanogen wiki). Everything works (youtube, gmail, google music, google sync,...) except Google play store...
Gapps was instal via recovery.
I tried to donwload only Google play app, but it get : Android App Not Install. An existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed.
Did anybody has same problem?
Thanks

So far you are the first with such a problem. I can only assume that you grabbed the wrong gapps version.
In order to start fresh you'll have to do a full wipe (format system & data) because gapps will persist if you simply reflash the rom.
hello,
can you please upload the source of your rom to github?
thank you
Progress?
2 problems
day 2 of testing. nice work, thank you for providing this custom rom. signal strength is an issue. but battery usage is normal. I have two problems:
1. the weather does not display on lock screen.
2. google or other location based services cannot identify my location.
3. When I try to install Facebook app, it says this version of android is not supported.
can you please help me on this?
I have been using this ROM for a while, I have to say it was a horrible thing to install (not because of the ROM though, my phone doesnt read the internal SDCard in recovery.) and I have not had any issues apart from one which I will get to later, than you OP for making this, now what we need is a custom kernal to overclock this sadly weak phone.
CyanogenMod runs so much better than Stock sense 5, but I have a issue when exiting or entering apps, it will get a certain area of the frame and make a grid, this also sometimes happens while changing rotation, however it is alright to live with.
We need a cyanogenmod 11/12 port now

i'm willing to make cm 12 for this device as i own it, but HTC hasn't released the kernal source as of yet and i don't think they will at all.
if they do, send me a message and i'll start to port cm 11 or 12 and an overclocked kernel
app2sd
hi
i installed and used this rom for about a month and it was really OK. thanks
but the only thing that needed is Move2sd option in app settings and i dont know how to enable it, the 2 gig internal memory really bothers!
thanks again for your attention
Its a great rom just a pity that libaudio is not working as normal

I just installed the new build I am only wondering how do I turn off my mobile data. This ROM is amazing and everything works except for data turning off and front camera
Battery Life
When i flashed this rom onto my device, i noticed a significant drop in battery life. Has anyone else noticed this and is there a fix for this?
thnx
Thank you sooooooooooo much man ,,, its sooooooo cooool ROM
working Perfectly on my sprint Note 2 SPH-L900
camera works fine ,,, everything is cool ,,, downloading now gapps
So I'm relatively new to the forums, I mostly just read, learn and try to stay out of way. Just flashed latest nightly last night. So far very smooth and stable. I did some poking a prodding this morning to answer some questions I had coming from CM11 which I was also new to.
Nice to see Sprint carrier billing back in this version. I know I saw it posted that NFC was not working but everything but Tap & Pay seems to work fine for me. Beam and Tags all function okay.
On top of Netflix not working yet, Play Movies 3.6.16 FCs on launch and after reverting to 3.4.23 it waits until you press play to FC.
I did have the keyboard issue that has been mentioned but was prepared with SwiftKey apk on my sdcard just in case. After finishing setup ALL keyboards seem to function just fine.
BT and GPS both working great.
All in all very usable and I'm going to give it a go as a daily for as long as possible though I may have to revert back to CM11 just for the Netflix/Play Movies since we only stream in my household. We'll see.
Not sure if this thread was the best place to share (I can't seem to comment on the main thread) but if there's a more appropriate place to provide feedback that someone wants to point me at, happy to do it.
Nice work everyone who's contributing. Thanks for your efforts keeping my Note 2 relevant.?
GPS
How did you get the GPS working? I tried flashing the GPS fix linked in the thread and a clean install with the latest nightly. I drive around and never obtain a GPS lock.

"Edit: Make sure all important data and backups are stored to your external SD card before formatting. I used Philz 6.48.4 and CWM 6.0.5.0 when following this procedure.
[IMPORTANT]
After wiping clean to install a new rom, factory resetting, and wiping cache and dalvik cache, in philz recovery, go to your storage and mounts settings and format every option you can EXCEPT sdcard1. Reboot your recovery then proceed with the steps below.
Make sure you have your ROM, Gapps, SuperSU, and GPS fix zips on your external sdcard1. Flash in the order below.
1. Flash your ROM zip.
2. Perform a factory reset then wipe both cache options. This step is very important when facing problems after flashing.
3. Flash your Gapps zip. Wipe both cache.
4. Flash your SuperSU zip. Wipe both cache.
5. Flash GPSfix zip. Wipe both cache.
6. Reboot.
This process will give you the cleanest possible install with the highest chance of success. When I start having problems with flashing, I format everything (except sdcard1) then follow those steps. It's the same procedure I took when flashing the CM12 nightly and all is running well."
So I've been following the change log for this Rom, and I can't understand much.
I'm still on the 1/5/15 non nightly version and it's pretty much functional as a daily driver. What I'm wondering is are there any major differences for the newer nightlies?
Perhaps in addition to being a Q&A on these nightlies, everyone can post which version they're on, how it is (what's broken/what's been fixed), and what's new if anything.....
Newb question: This is the first time I've started on a ROM at such an early stage of its development. Typically how fast does CM development progress once a new version is started? Idle curiosity mostly.

Haha, thanks. ? I understand the nightly releases. What I meant was I guess is how long after a new version is started does it normally take to get to the first milestone or even snapshot release for instance? Like I said, I'm just curious about the process.

Lol. Yeah I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for that. It might happen but I guess we'll see. I don't think any device has gotten a milestone just yet anyway.

Keeps restarting on cm12 boot screen
Hey guys,
I have a situation I've never come across and wanted to see if someone might be able to point me in the right direction. I have two Samsung Note 2(l900) and running on cm12 as of this morning. I installed the new nightly on both devices the same exact way by opening clockwork recovery and installing zip. One device was successful and is working just fine, the other seemed to flash fine until it had finished loading the apps and going into boot. The device would restart on the note 2 logo screen and then proceed to the cm12 boot screen and then restart after a few seconds. I went back into recovery which took longer than usual, and proceeded to clear partition, wipe dalvik cache, and install older nightlies. I had the same result no matter what nightly I went with.
I decided to set the device back to stock rom and root again. I it worked just fine, so I went through the process about 4 times installing different nightlies but had the same restarting results. It was then I noticed that getting in clockwork recovery manually lagged about 30 seconds. I took the advice of someone on the Google plus forum and switched the recovery from clockwork to twrp. Tried again with the same restarting results and with the manual recovery lagging about 30 seconds to get into.
It seems to work just fine if I flash to stock touchwiz but recovery seems to have issues.
Anyone getting Netflix or Play Movies to work yet on the latest versions? It's the only thing that made me have to revert back to CM11. I tried looking over the change log but honestly I don't know what half that stuff means.?

I've tried several methods and combinations of wiping at every possible opportunity before pressing reboot and i'm still having
issue. All the the apps are listed in the app drawer displaying the file name instead of the app name. Also all of the apps display the same icon (default android) and the not installed toast appears when attempting to launch any of them. Is anyone else having this issue
attempted flashing
cm-12-20150203-NIGHTLY-l900.zip with md5: ba795d6a4261654648b0eb5cec019021 downloaded from http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=l900&type=stable
cm-10.1.3-l900.zip with md5: ba795d6a4261654648b0eb5cec019021 downloaded from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Gapps
has anyone had success with either of these
currently running Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM for Galaxy Note 2! [CM12] downloaded from http://galaxynote2root.com
attempted with both gapps-lp-20141109-signed.zip and LollipopMicroGapps-121914-HighOnAndroid.zip both downloaded from http://galaxynote2root.com
I would prefer to use the aforementioned build because the build I'm running is not compatible with the nightlies
thanks for any responses in advanced.

Sorry, I'm probably not the most knowledgeable. If it wasn't for these forums I wouldn't know how to do any of it. I haven't had any issues flashing, but I followed the steps I quoted from the get go and do that every time. Currently I'm back on the last KitKat nightly because Netflix/Play Movies is still not working on CM12. Have you tried any of the CM11 builds? Im currently using:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/98444/cm-11-20150118-NIGHTLY-l900.zip
and I use the 20140606 GApps package found here:

Odd that Netflix and Play Movies don't work. Plex, Amazon Instant Video, MX Movie Player, and Chromecast all work.
