[Q] Unable to transfer media from Nexus to PC - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys I'm having troubles connecting my Verizon Nexus to my PC and transferring files over. When I connect the phone to my computer it does load up like normal and I'm able to access the internal storage on my phone, as well as search through the individual folders. Unfortunately I'm unable to transfer anything from the phone to the computer and vice versa. Is it because I have the wrong drivers installed or that they were installed incorrectly? Does it have to do w/ using the All-in-one tool kit to root the phone? The actual media transfer will attempt to occur, but will be stuck at the "copying" stage for quite a long time. So I've just cancelled everything altogether. Anyone else experiencing/has experienced this as well?

Have you tried restarting your phone? Sometimes, MTP starts acting funny, and i fix it rebooting the phone. You can also try reinstalling the drivers. Download them directly from Google. using the SDK.

[Q] USB Storage doesn't show up in windows 7

I have not had this problem until recently and not sure what has caused it. My phone is not showing up when I mount my SD card. Also undetected by ADB. I have tried multiple cables, different computers, and also reformatted my computer and installed fresh drivers just in case. My phone does however show up in Odin and I can flash a modem no problem. I was thinking about wiping my phone back to stock and going from there, but I am afraid that will not fix it and I will be stuck at stock. =(
Thanks,
Jaculop
Had the same problem. Had to reload the drivers even though my other Epic was recognized just fine.

Same here, its' like it woked one day and didn't the next. I had 2 problems, one was the fact that only half of the usb jacks on the front of my desktop work (dumbass), and I had to re-install the drivers found on Samsung.com. My computer also will not recognize the sd card until you turn on mass storage from the drop down menu on the phone after the usb is connected.
What I did was turn on USB debugging, connected the phone in the drop down menu, then went int control panel>device manager> and looked for either "Other" or something in the USB connections. I found Samsung Android. I clicked that and hit update drivers from Windows Update. It took like 30 minutes to load all the necessary drivers then connected fine after that.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers. I am pretty sure I have tried the update driver thing through device manager, with it saying I already had an update to do driver. I have also tried with/without debugging and also manually selecting use as a mass storage device. Just kinda weird it shows up in device manager, just ADB doesn't recognize it or as a mass storage device. I am starting to think it is something more with my phone as it doesn't show up on other computer and tried other cables. May just say screw it and try Odin.

You can uninstall the drivers, then let Windows Update find the drivers again. It needs 5 drivers altogether. My problem was similiar. It wouldn't recognize my phone with USB debugging on, yet had no problem recognizing my other Epic so was sure my phone was screwed up. After Odin it did recognize it but wouldn't after rooting and putting on a GB leak ROM but again the other phone was fine. Forced driver update and has worked fine ever since. Although one phone shows up as F and the other as E. Not worried as long as it works...lol.
I uninstalled the Galaxy S 64bit drivers but the uninstall option that came with the package. I plugged in my phone, it attempted to find drivers and said unsuccessful. I click, search automatically and it comes back with nothing.
Also it says it is Samsung CDMA Technologies.
Edit: I just tried manually updating the drivers by pointing to the driver location instead of using the provided installation. I see only 4 drivers installed. Samsung USB Composite Device, Samsung Mobile Modem Diagnostics, and one other I am unable to find the name of.
There is also a CDC driver.

I fixed the problem. In case anyone else runs into it, it's simple to fix. I was afraid to ODIN back to stock in case something was wrong and unable to root/cwm again, but I grew some balls did it and it's now working flawlessly. Must have been something messed up with the system files on my epic, that even a wipe and reflash from CWM would not fix.

Did you root and reflash your ROM and try it?
Yea, I rerooted and flashed my rom. Everything is working fine so far, along with my SD card and phone showing up on my computer. Before it was just showing up as Samsung CDMA Tech. now it is showing actually showing the samsung model number. So something happened with the phone before. Not exactly sure.

[Q] How do you transfer data from the phone to computer via USB Cable

I have no option for usb data transfer. Just MTP and PTP. When trying to drag and drop I get "Calculating the time required to copy the files". It copies nothing.
Airdroid, wifi explorer, kies doesnt transfer a damn thing.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!
Make sure that your drivers have been installed properly, first off (I think this is a big problem for a lot of ppl). And on the phone, in Settings > Storage > Menu > Computer Connection > "Media device (MTP)" is checked. (I also believe unchecking "USB Debugging" in Developer options can help, too).
If your drivers are set up, you should get a prompt (assuming you're on Windows 7) to "open folder and view files" and you'll get an Explorer window. Just drag/drop files on the device.
You can also use a WiFi FTP transfer app (I wanna say AirDroid is a popular one?). Some prefer it this way.
How can you tell if the drivers have been installed properly?
I can drag and drop one file at a time but nothing more

If you plug your phone in and don't get an error. And in device manager it should show up as "Galaxy Nexus" or "Samsung Galaxy Nexus".

Sounds like a possible issue with your setup. I just recently re-installed a fresh 32bit Windows 7 install on my MacBookPro, and without any driver tweaking or anything I was able to connect and drag/drop files back and forth.
I do have issues with my desktop and plan on wiping it.

MTP can be finnicky but there's no technical reason why it can't work just fine (as I said it works perfectly for me and others here).
Have you tried something like AirDroid (linked above)? Or if you're just sitting on WiFi you can always just upload to DropBox (Google Drive) and download on the phone/PC.
airdroid hasnt worked for me. I'm not positive but I think there are certain files that won't transfer via cloud.

Should be able to transfer anything. Don't see any restrictions to it.
Is your Kies properly Installed?
Hi,
If your Samsung Kies was properly installed (means took quite time for installing Driver for Samsung devices). Your phone should be detected once connected via USB cable. Some devices may have different situations. Exp. file transfer in SamsungGalaxyTab10.1 will not display exact time for file transfer Window. Once device connected via USB cable, and Your device's Name Pops Up in your window, means it's successful. Transfer shd not be problem.
Sometimes, Phone may not the cause, perhaps ur Pc/laptop might limited capability for Kies Support.
If your case is different, perhaps you can uninstalled and reinstalled it in control panel. Uninstalling Kies will not remove ur Phone's Driver data. Hope this Helps.
Sincerely,
whitefang
**** takes forever to transfer via usb. is this a known issue on the nexus or just me? I have never had a phone with issues in transfering data. I'll give a clous service a try again. I appreciate your help

It's a known "issue" that people have really funky PC setups and have issues installing drivers. It's not inherently a technological problem with MTP or the Galaxy Nexus. As I said before, it's just a bit more finnicky than USB Mass Storage (UMS), which is used on most other phones.
I'll keep referring to the fact that on a bare Windows 7 install, with no previously installed drivers, I was able to plug in my Galaxy Nexus, auto-install drivers, and xfer files back/forth without a hiccup... that'll give you an idea for where the problem lies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523691 try this it has wifi sync using it all the time
ive got windows 7 ultimate, no issues, works as it should

Like martonikaj said, you should be able to transfer everything wirelessly. It's probably your fastest bet.
I either do that, or use ADB. While it's not as fast, I find it to be more stable than MTP (but that could be just me).
I assume download files as a zip and then open them on the pc? I assume all I would have to transfer would be titanium backup since it contains all app and system data. I know some of my questions might seem silly but i want to make sure i dont loose any data.
I've tried downloading the samsung drivers on 3 different pc with 3 different operating systems and cant get the drivers to properly load. I'm a little upset with Samsung at the moment. I never had a problem wit HTC or Moto phones.
you can use Alt Mounter app on mac & windows
go to goole & search it
then download AltMounter.apk & install it to your phone
then download altmounter for windows & install it to your pc
after that run altmounter in your pc & also run altmounter in your phone
after that plug the usb cable . the phone storage shows up in a window
this is verys simple & i like it
you can use it if you have problems with MTP
I'll give it a shot, thanks!

[Q] Android Device not recognized / MTP ADB driver problem

I'm about at my wit's end with this. Just for information sake I'm running Cyanogenmod10 on an Incredible 2.
Recently, about a week ago, I "removed" Windows Media Player from my Windows 7 services menu (because it's a piece of **** and I use MPC-HC), and didn't notice anything wrong until I tried to sync my Incredible 2 with Mediamonkey again to update my music collection and found that it wouldn't recognized the Android device.
After ****ing around with my drivers in device manager for a bit and doing some Google searches to try and figure out what the problem was, I came across the idea that it might be something with WMP and how it has MTP drivers installed that Mediamonkey needs to see the Android device in its program. This was confirmed on the MM wiki. So I re-allowed WMP via Windows service features and it still wouldn't recognize the device.
I've tried everything short of a fresh install and nothing works. Tried updating the ADB drivers, that didn't work. Tried deleting them and installing them manually, that didn't work. Tried downloading and installing the next version of WMP to see if that would refresh whatever drivers I needed, and get told that the "update doesn't apply to my computer". Tried installing the Android SDK toolkit to see if I could manually install the drivers without using device manager and that didn't seem to work either. Even tried installing the ****ty proprietary HTC Sync bloatware from HTC's website to see if that would give me the drivers I needed.
Then I tried backing up my phone data, doing a clean wipe of my phone through recovery, and putting stock Android on my phone to see if I could install the necessary MTP notification drivers from my phone onto my computer that way after I idiotically deleted them from device manager. The installer tells me it fails every time I try to connect the Incredible to my computer via USB. Currently I restored my CM10 installation and can't figure out what to do.
Now I have a royal cluster**** of things that may or may not work and I still can't get MM or WMP to recognize the device.
Um...I just drag my music into the music folder in explorer and that works fine..try that?

Because I have a rather large music library and Mediamonkey makes it incredibly easy to manage it. If I just transferred files over manually then I wouldn't be able to manage my library effectively; using MM allows me to make changes in the program that effects my native music library and then quickly sync with my phone, and syncing takes less than a minute.
Basically I'm trying to get MTP functionality back, I'm sure it has something to do with disabling Windows Media Player but even after re-enabling it on my PC I still can't get MM or WMP to recognize my device.
Try a different computer
I'm on the same boat. I plugged in my phone to my computer for the first time in a while and my computer would give me "usb not responding" message and my phone doesn't display anything, it doesn't come up with adb devices either. Any ideas?

Took this advice and it turns out when I connect my phone to another computer running MM it recognizes it.
Which means I can only assume it was a problem around disabling and reenabling WMP on my computer messing with the MTP functionality on my laptop.
So I guess my next question would be, how to do a full reinstall of WMP / Windows Media Features? There's really not a way to do it that I know of because you can't really uninstall WMP from Windows (thanks Microsoft), you can only disable it, and it's obvious that re-enabling it did nothing to fix or mitigate the problem.

It sounds like the drivers for your phone have been damaged by the WMP disable. I'm not sure why that would be, but perhaps reinstalling them will fix it.

The phone / Windows 7 keep failing to reinstall the drivers automatically and HTC doesn't give out the individual drivers for people to install manually.

[Q] Digitizer Broken - Need to retrieve my Data

Hey all,
I'm in a pinch. I see some people on the other phone sections have had a similar problem, but never truly got it sorted out. My digitizer screen has a crack in it and no longer operates, The phone will power on, but I can't actually do anything with it. I'm trying to retrieve all of my media and data off of it to switch over on to my new Nexus. I'm trying this moborobo program but it doesn't seem to be working. It keeps trying to reinstall the drivers. If anyone could be of ANY help, Please I'm pretty desperate! Thank you.
Does the phone not respond when you connect it to your computer? (no MTP stuff, etc.) If you can still access that, then you should be in luck.
If you want to get more stuff off of your phone than just the basic files, perhaps you can do a backup through CWM recovery, since it's not touch-based, and then restore it onto the new phone.

Sounds like you need drivers. Uninstall any drivers for the GNex on your computer, reboot, reinstall known working drivers. There are links in the stickies for the right ones for your device.

[Q] Cannot initiate USB data connection on GS3 (rooted, CM10; Win 7)

A few weeks after rooting and installing CM10 on my GS3, it stopped recognizing any form of USB data connection. It still charges from both computer and wall adapter, but I cannot initiate a data transfer or recognize my device using ADB.
I have tried:
three different OEM Samsung cables (from SG3/SG4 phones)
all the ports on two different Win 7 laptops
all the ports on an Ubuntu desktop
enabling or disabling USB debugging
with different combinations each time. No "USB connection" dialog has shown up on the phone, and no "new device" dialog has shown up on any of the computers. I know that I can get ADB working with a different Android phone (HTC Inspire 4G) so I know that my main laptop has USB ports that work and the cables I've tried work as well, so I'm left to assume that the issue is with the GS3. External visual inspection does not suggest the USB port on the phone is damaged, and the phone is only a year old, so I don't believe that is the cause.
Is there a system setting that I may have modified on the GS3 that would disable all forms of USB communication?
(The end goal is to get at least ADB working so I can try and recover some deleted files from the internal memory; I haven't found a reliable method that does not require ADB so I'm trying to get that to work. I know that transferring files on or off can be accomplished with the external SD card or over Wifi but that is not what I'm looking for)
Any suggestions from anyone?
I am not sure. Could be a software issue. I would try backing up your current cm ROM and try installing a fresh touchwiz ROM to see of that works, to rule out software issues. This could also be a android 4.3 issue. Could try stickmount or a similar otg app from the market.

I don't think any OTG app like stickmount will help; I'm not trying to connect devices to my phone. I'm trying to get my computer to recognize my phone (and vice versa) in order to get ADB working.
If I can avoid flashing a RAM I'd like to, because I'm still interested in recovering those deleted files. If that is the only thing that would help, though, then I'll do it. Any other suggestions?
Install Kies and that should get the drivers for the pc in place. Odin should recognize the device when it is in the download mode. If that works, then the pc to phone connection is OK and I'd look to software instead of hardware.
Or, if you boot into your custom recovery, either CWM or TWRP, you should be able to get ADB to recognize the device and issue commands including pulling the files on Internal storage. TWRP also has a file browser built in that might be useful.
I have tried uninstalling any Samsung drivers then using the SGS3 toolkit to install the official drivers, but that didn't change anything on the PC end.
Additionally, I tried finding my device while it was in recovery using ADB and there was no connection indication either.
I currently have CWM installed, but I didn't see a mounting option like I've seen for TWRP. Can I flash TWRP without a computer?
Or try this out: Download mode>Connect via USB>Let Windows download and update all drivers until the notification in the bottom right says it's ready to use>Unplug>Battery Pull>Boot normally>connect again. Voila! It works every time when it's being wonky and its a simple way that doesn't require a bunch of downloads!
installing insecure adb might help
Rebooting into download mode does nothing.
I believe rooting and installing CM10 means I already have insecure adb?
thanks

what next?
