next time be more clear in your question because otherwise no one can help you. Replying to his statement of using the search function by calling him a little boy is kind of childish yourself.

Just figured I would give a "bump" to this Q&A since this dual-booting Samsung & AOSP is working well at this point. There are a few caveats and I am compiling a FAQ on just this topic. DerTeufel's thread is here and the OP references my FAQ > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239453

Currently, the only reliable config is AOSP (assuming you mean 4.2) as primary and Sammy as secondary or both Sammy. AOSP 4.2 on secondary has SD card access issues, etc.

If none of the other kernels work, I suppose that answers my question. I was under the impression that you could use any kernel with any rom.

Nooooo. Most kernels will list ROMs they were tested on to determine compatibility and stability...
For instance, KingxKlick's kernels are specifically meant for 2.2 Sense ROMs, no others i.e. CM6...
I mean you can always try kernels I guess. I mean that's what nandroid is for, right

this is for any dev that wants to try and port android jellybean to the s3 Tmobile version. they already ported it to the internationl version so i think that might make it a little easier. here is the OP in the international section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737449

Hmmm...
Wonder if we could take that ROM, change the updater-script to match our mounting points....then we just need a kernel....
Which we have one kernel already made. Not sure if it would work though.
If anyone would help set up a build environment that would work for our kernels and roms then I will gladly help and start learning.

I think we'd need a stock CM9 based kernel though. If I understand correctly.

Well, it shouldn't take too long. It may be possible to build a CM9 Kernel for our phones using parts of the stock kernel that we have access to.
Once the JB source is released, an S3 port might actually be viable. Otherwise it's essentially just flashing a gnex image and praying something/anything works.

a CM9 kernel shouldn't be needed, just a modded kernel for our specific phone from what i believe.
We know this, but it's more of an experiment. Also, it helps work out anything we may need to do early on with the modules and drivers

Why not take this ROM, change the updater-script for our mount points, remove the flashing of the boot.img, flash ROM then flash the kernel Roman release?
Think that would work?

It could, in theory. But we would need to work on the modules for anything to work. Could you post our mount points?
why does it have to be a cm9 kernel?
to be completely honest, as soon as we get a cm9 alpha, we will see some worth while stuff! but until then. TouchWiz it iz. We will have team kang's AOKP in no time im sure. i cant wait to see wuts to come. especially since this phone is at all the major carriers and they are all basically exactly the same! should be epic.

yea i think once one of the other major carriers (or ares) get cm9 then we will see some awesome stuff for everyones phone!
I think that the only thing that makes them different is the radios in the phone

Woah there!!!!!
OP DO NOT FLASH THOSE KERNELS!
You could brick!
Never flash anything that was not made specifically for your device. If you bother to read the first post in most of those threads they specifically say that Verizon and sprint are not supported.
Please do not post links to potential harmful threads.
We will have custom kernels as soon as HTC releases kernel source for our device. If you can't wait that long then a few of the AOSP ROMs have the HTC logo working as a button.
definitly not flashing any of those haha.
but thank you both for the responses
I'm sorry. didn't notice that. I flashed the aosp one on mine...work pretty well.

None of those kernels were made for our device and could potentially break stuff now that we are s-off.

That is the kernel I using on cm10.2. of course, I'm on verizon.
VanirAOSP uses a custom kernel that allows the HTC Logo to be used as a sleep/wake button.
What ROMs are okay to flash if you have the Knox bootloader. Im so confused about this Knox thing. Ive read if it doesnt change your bootloader you will be fine and others saying i have to wait for a stok mk3 .tar (i do believe thats the right one) file to be available. one dev posted a rooted 4.3 rom and he said this wont mess with the bootloader. im just nervous dont want to brick my phone. someone please help and shed some light on this confusing situation
This should be Q and A section, and Cnexus posted a FAQ about this in general section....

If you want a simple answer, then here it is: you can flash any rom you want.
Only one catch: do not EVER Odin a full stock tar with version < MK3 to your device or you will instantly brick.

The original ROM checks for "know" baseband versions to make sure you dont try flashing the ROM on the wrong device. I had to unpack the ROM, add support for the new baseband and then repack the ROM inorder to get it to install. I also change he kernel cmdline to set SELinux to permissive mode by default (like it was in 4.3). I will post the tweaked ROM shortly.

Sorry about the general post, I have flashed Roms from here since back in my Droid X days but have never done much posting, so it wont let e ask this on the DU thread.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the WiFi tether to work in settings. It looks like it sets up but never works and shows little or no connectivity on my laptop.
I love this rom and want to use it as a daily but HAVE to have hotspot use for my home or I get no internet in my rural community.
Any help would be appreciated!!!!

I am also running 7.9.
1. You posted into the wrong section. Questions go to Q&A thread.
2. Wi-Fi trust may be broken because of the kernel or ramdisk. If you flashed a custom kernel then that is probably the problem. If not then the problem is in the ROM. If you flashed that ROM without wiping data and cahce, then that may be the reason why Wi-Fi tether isn't working..

So the problem is in the ROM.
If you can then let the ROM devs know about this issue on their ROM. This may be just ramdisk related or then kernel related
