Quick rundown from a Phoronix artificial that does a pretty good job of a quick breakdown on the differences.. It even includes some benchmarks
Note that Android is normally compiled with O2 and Os
For those unfamiliar with the different optimization flags, see the GCC optimize options documentation. The tested flags used in this article include:
-O0 - Reduce compilation time and make debugging produce the expected results. This is the default.
-O1 - Optimize. Optimizing compilation takes somewhat more time, and a lot more memory for a large function.
-O2 - Optimize even more. GCC performs nearly all supported optimizations that do not involve a space-speed tradeoff. As compared to -O, this option increases both compilation time and the performance of the generated code.
-O3 - Optimize yet more. -O3 turns on all optimizations specified by -O2 and also turns on the -finline-functions, -funswitch-loops, -fpredictive-commoning, -fgcse-after-reload, -ftree-vectorize, -fvect-cost-model, -ftree-partial-pre and -fipa-cp-clone options.
-Os - Optimize for size. -Os enables all -O2 optimizations that do not typically increase code size. It also performs further optimizations designed to reduce code size.
-Ofast - Disregard strict standards compliance. -Ofast enables all -O3 optimizations. It also enables optimizations that are not valid for all standard-compliant programs. It turns on -ffast-math and the Fortran-specific -fno-protect-parens and -fstack-arrays.

Looks pretty interesting.. Going to have to give this a run

This is CM10.1 with only the needed changes to allow -O3 and GCC 4.7 plus BasicKernel (my kernel)..
Liquid Smooth using an entirely different base with their own options etc...

Link seems to be down?

I wanna download this can I get a mirror?

Is there a mirror link? I'd love to try this.

franco.Kernel - Linaro Builds
This is a thread solely for the discussion of the Linaro builds of franco.kernel. Franco gave his permission for this thread however he offers no support for any bugs experienced with these builds, please do not PM with his questions about this toolchain. Linaro builds are compiled with a high level of compiler optimization which can introduce glitches into the kernel, these builds are experimental. Feel free to discuss performance, post benchmarks and report bugs. I'll try to keep up with his nightly versions as he releases the source code and compile them with the Linaro toolchain.
franco.Kernel features:
Overclock CPU up to 1804 MHz
Overclocked GPU to 512 MHz
Voltage Control
Built with GCC version 4.7.1 20120531 (prerelease) (Linaro GCC 2012.06)

Enjoy!
I've found a bug, what shall I do?
First of all, make sure this bug does not occur on the non-linaro Franco kernel. Second, make sure it's not caused by your rom, if you've flashed this kernel at the same time you flashed a linaro ROM, it's much more likely the issue is caused by a bug in the ROM.
If you're sure that the bug is definitely specific to the linaro franco kernels, post your logcat and kmsg (from /proc/last_kmsg - if you encounter a bug, reboot first in order to generate /proc/last_kmsg, then grab it and upload it), along with the name of the kernel .zip you flashed and ideally instructions on how to reproduce the bug.
Current Known Issues:
None
READ THIS:
What's different about the *.5pcOC.* archives?
This kernel is built with a 5% static board overclock, as of r186 Franco's normal builds no longer use any static board overclock. Your phone may not be able to handle this, if you get stuck on the google logo flash back to another release without the overclock.
What's different about the *.10pcOC.* archives?
This kernel is built with a 10% static board overclock rather than a 5% static board overclock, give it a go if you want.
Builds 207 and onwards are Jelly Bean only
Download link for all builds: http://franconexus.servehttp.com/
Thanks, will give it at try...

Great job thanks for this thread! Can you perhaps create builds without the 5% static board over clock doo daa so people like me who's nexus' don't like it will be able to boot?
Edit
Been using this a for a while now and I got to say to the performance is amazing and loving finally being able to use the newer builds

This is a known issue with certain phones that arises because they are unable to run the 5% static overclock, the *.doc.* zips in the OP don't include this and they should allow you to boot up as normal.

I just added a freshly compiled doc.512GPU to the OP, I'll add the doc.384GPU one tomorrow.
For reference "doc" in the filename stands for Disabled Overclock, it means the build does not have the 5% static overclock. It does still allow you to apply a CPU overclock.
not sure if placebo but my nexus seems to be flying more then usual too

Nyan Colonel was originally created for the Epic 4G as an effort to bring all of the features from other Hummingbird devices to the Epic. Now I have used my upgrade on a Galaxy Nexus and have been trying many different kernels and every one seems to have some features and be missing others. I have attempted to add as much features I can while still keeping the kernel lean and fast with great battery life. This does not require you to be some crazy linux enthusiast in order to modify, or charge you for an app capable of tuning it. It comes with the trickstermod app in order to tweak the kernel to your needs in case the preset settings don't fit your user type.

Ondemand - Basic scale on demand governor with no hotplugging
HotplugX - Ondemand modified to hotplug at low use and screen off

I will attempt to support this as much as I can on xda, but for several reasons (not that xda sucks... it is a great site, but there were some issues with OP length, etc. and it is hard to update on multiple sites), I have my main thread over at rootzwiki...
Anyways, get the full feature list at rootzwiki and I'll just post a basic overview here on this thread.

Description:
Nyan was originally created to port GSM Galaxy S 1 mods over to the Sprint variant. I have since moved to the Galaxy Nexus and have noticed that whenever I would get a new kernel, I would really miss features from the kernel that I was using prior, so that inspired me to make my own kernel for the Tuna.

Nyan is really disagreeing with the ondemand governor
Still I prefer this over any of the other kernels here so far, a good blend of features.

Question?
i am on pure stock
i returned to stock to do update for mc2 and rooted with cf root
I don't want to use custom roms can i still flash this kernel or do i need a specific rom
also if i need a specific rom which one will you suggest?
I would like to stay as close as possible to stock
if stock rom work, can i use any app to overclock device also is it posible to overclock the gpu with this kernel?

Yes you can flash this kernel on stock rooted and can use any app. I recommend trickster mod or antutu CPU master. No the GPU is not scalable at this time

There are scripts that do work. A good number of people from the other notes have it going. I however do not use this mod so really don't put much emphasis on it
