So I'm on cm10.1 and I'm wanting to go back to 4.1 probably frosty jb. Am I able to just flash frosty from twrp or do I have to odin 4.1 first??
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
just flash the 4.1 after wiping everything including internal and external storage, (I do and suggest it). This way the emulated/0 folder wont be there and cause you to clutter the threads up. Of course back up your both of your storage areas, if you choose to wipe them.
Beware, it seems going back from 4.2 to 4.1 could break your GPS. If that happens, you can look in the General section on a possible fix.
You can install any Rom with twrp whether you are going from 2.3.2 to 4.2 or vice versa.

Yup I have just be sure to wipe cache dev cache and delete data a couple times before and after. You should be OK.

I also flashed the 4.2 rom when I was experimenting when I first got my phone. When I flash back to 4.1.1 I had the emulated /0 folder. At that time I just copied everything out of that folder into the internal. Problem with that is the /0 folder can not be deleted. I have been wondering what is the best method to format internal sd. I am currently on Frosty rom and I have nothing to lose in my internal that can't be replaced. Can I just format and reboot system or do I need to reflash rom after deleting internal? On other devices I have had there was always a risk of bricking if you formatted internal. I would appreciate any advice so that I don't mess up my phone. Thanks is advance. BTW I use TWRP as my recovery method.

Thanks for all the help. Wiping data and both caches worked perfectly fine to get back to 4.1

Hey is Bluetooth working in 4.1 cm10? Specifically the music streaming to blue tooth?
Just went back to stock for Bluetooth but I hate stock...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Imma say... going from 4.2.1 back to 4.1 was a b!tch. Caused me to have to start all over. And as another individual stated above, there is an emulated /0/ folder that 4.2 uses due to the new profile architecture. Basically you wiping your phone, it leaves a copy of your SD card in the /0/. The restore process in CWM (I've not used TWRP on my GS3 so I can't speak for it), it breaks the restore process as CWM can't read from other than it's predefined restore location. Now I've read on the Nexus 7 forums that do restore, you could potentially make a copy of your CWM folder from /0/ into your base sd folder.
I guess just play around with it, but personally I recommend not jumping to 4.2.1. I personally had to ODIN back to stock and wipe everything and start over cuz I ran out of space to move files and it just took too long since each time you wipe, it would embed everything in a /0/ and eventually the copies just overwhelmed.
But basically key understanding of this whole restore/downgrade issue is 4.2.1's profile architecture dumping all your SDcard (phone) content into /0/ and your CWM is used to restoring from SD/clockworkmod/backup rather than looking @ SD/0/clockworkmod/backup.
I flash from 4.2.1 to 4.1.1 and back all the time... Never ever had an issue

This is something new going on with my stock rooted phone. Once I install a new app from the play store my screen become unresponsive to touch? Any ideas?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I've got this problem too. I just rooted and flashed the stock FI27 rom the other day, and now the phone locks up each time I install a new app.
Phone is unresponsive, but holding down the power button causes a reboot.
It may have something to do with the internal vs. external SD card after root, but I'm not entirely sure yet.
Try removing the SD card before an install. See if that changes anything. Also try a different SD card when installing. I have reason to believe that your external SD is going bad.

If you have a working recovery try wipeing cashe & dalvick. Uninstalling the play store and reinstalling it may clear up problem.

Sorry for the ignorant question but does this mean adding CWM recovery? As it stands right now I still have this issue but since I just installed stock ROM I still have the stock recovery.

You can wipe cache with stock recovery. Dalvik requires CWM.

I tried wiping cache with stock recovery and the problem still persists. Any suggestions outside of factory restore.

I found that removing the SD card seemed to alleviate the problem. Or at least unmounting the card rather than removing it.
Morning all. Just a quick question. I've read a few posts suggesting before flashing a JB ROM you should Odin back to stock. Is this true or does it not matter? I was always flashing custom ICS ROM's and then just did the usually clean/wiping and started flashing 4.2 ROM's. Will this cause any issues or any benefits to starting fresh?

I'm on the att version, but I didn't experience any problems either way. Two different handsets (had to exchange due to the black splotches that plague oled screens), but I rooted and flashed to a 4.2.1 ROM from both the ICS and JB stock images. Definitely search some more, but I didn't have any issues whatsoever.

Usually what I do is put titanium backup, rom manager backups, pics and downloads on my ext sd card. Whenever I install cm10 or aokp and go back to touchwiz I format my internal sd and I'm good to go.

It shouldn't cause any issues flashing a 4.2 rom on your phone. There's no need to go back to stock in order to do it, either. Roms you flash will format and repartition as necessary. Just make sure to do a full wipe and follow instructions to the letter and you'll be fine.
Never had any issues. Just recently been having a strange problem. When I restore my back up there is nothing in my "download" folder or pictures. I know for a fact there were. Now he's the weird part. Plug phone into computer, reboot and do my cleaning then flash my nandroid. Once phone boots back up my computer opens the phones drive up so I can see all my folders on internal. If I quickly open "download" folder from computer, all my files are there for a few seconds then all of a sudden....gone. Hope that made sense

4.2 moves them to sdcard/0
Just cut the folders from there and paste back to the sdcard root.

Just tried updating my moms phone with an official stock build with an update from the Sammy website and it has effectively destroyed her internal storage. She has no SDcard and we can't figure out why the internal sdcard will no longer mount. Can anyone help me?

Try going to the Rwilco12 repository and downloading the latest GB27 restore. Flash that and it should fix the issue. What happened sounds like your phone didn't set up the partitions properly. You more than likely didn't lose any data. It's just that the partition is messed up and cant be seen.

yeah I ended up flashing back to 4.0.4 but it wouldn't boot so I flashed GB27 NODATA back over. It fixed my issue, but now all the files are gone. Im looking to root now and maybe recover if possible. We'll see
Look for a data recovery app. Your data should still be there. As long as it isn't over written, it should be recoverable.

Hi everyone
I would like to know how to format my phone and not the external sd card. Is this something that can be done? I would like to know how to do it and what are the risks of losing imei or efs or worse.
Reason why i am doing this is because i cant get my gps to work on jedix rom. I checked with lots of people with my carrier and they all confirmed that its not the rom its my phone. I tried numerous fixes to get the gps working but with no luck. It works fine on a stock rom but as son as i flash jedi there is no signal whatsoever.
I believe something got screwed up after i flashed cm10 a while back and then flashed jedi after. I think that was the culprit and i figured maybe if i format and start from scratch i can get it to work? Please help thanks.

Have you tried getting your navigation lock on stock then booting straight to recovery and flashing. To answer your question, boot into recovery and select wipe internal sd and there's no risk. Except deleting all pics on internalvl which of course is what you're doing.

Hi
No I havent tried getting nav lock first and then flashing Jedi. I will try that. Now when I flash back to stock and get my lock on
do I need to do a full wipe (cache and dalvik) before I flash Jedi because that is what its recommended be done. I am scared to flash
Jedi without a full wipe.
If the first thing fails I will go ahead and do a wipe of the internal memory. Now will I lose root and TWRP once i do that? And also do I need to do a full backup in twrp but backup to ExternalSd because I will be wiping the internal one? Please bare with me I have never done a full format and don't want to screw up my phone. Thanks!!!

Yes full wipe. The key is to actually have a navigation lock, then with navigation still running boot to recovery and install jedi

So i decided to go from illusion to stockaroma v2 and once i got the phone setup it said i was running low on storage space so later on i rebooted my phone and i got android.phone has crashed blabla
Upon rebooting it kept crashing and crashing so i decided to wipe and reflash stockaroma but funny thing is everytime id wipe and start over I'd get same settings apps and stuff already preloaded as if cwm wasnt even wiping i tried couple times reflashing the rom didnt work..
So i decided to restore my backup now when i went ahead to do that o couldn't because it was saying there is no files ? And i flashed a rom i had on my sdcard but even tho i wiped i got some stuff preloaded which is not normal ? And now i got like 7 times the same directory it looks like this : sdcard/emulated/0/0/0/0 ??
Everything is messed up and down i do not want to go through odin since i have a damn slow computer which shutdowns by its own now imagine me flashing and it crashes...
So my question is how may i restore my backup ? I have like many "0" directory just not sure which one to delete as each contains different file ??
Please help me out im not a noob but this is the first time ive seen this

Sorry but Odin seems to be your best bet or go buy an external sdcard and reader (as I've advertised on all forums before). This is also why we say to update your recovery to the latest one constantly, in many threads and most OP posts of most roms. Good luck. Also always having a backup of all your contemts on memory is recommended before messing with flashing ROMs. Live and learn.

Funny thing is in 4 years never been through anything similar you're telling me live and learn like i probably never read anything before flashing which is not the case i am always careful....
My guess is i ran out of storage space and maybe thats why there was so many /0 folders now that i cleaned some junk im all set up back and running just was wondering what happened and i had the latest cwm touch recovery so i don't know how should i upgrade my recovery if an update isn't out?

I say live and learn cause you didn't have thing backed up like you should and you made a mistake. I've yet to see anyone have duplicate /0 for that reason and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the cause. Its cause you weren't on the latest or even up to date to handle 4.2.2. I never said you weren't careful but in lots of the threads including illusion my post and Ramsay's, I think, says make sure you have updated your recovery and backup your sdcard contents. Just saying and its a friendly heads up, also advised you on external sdcard. No need to be defensive, just giving pointers and helping, bud.

In TWRP there's an option to only wipe internal sd if you want to try that.
Or maybe if you Odin the stock firmware it'll kill the symlink or whatever is holding it there. Then try to delete.
Or factory reset?
