Samsung task manager is a very cool app om cyanogen roms etc but how effective is it ?
Is it just another task killer ? Which we donot need on Android. Or clearing Ram is something different ?
I find it useful but dont see much of a difference. Maybe Android reopens those apps again which it closes when i clear Ram ?
Suggestions and help please

Have u ever read about that android kills processes and apps by itself? For me it is another useless app like other task killers. If u kill app then ur phone will open it again. It is vicious circle isn't it?

Exactly that's what i'm thinking right now. But what forced me to install this app is that it comes with every Samsung mobile.

C'mon S3 is a beast. Have seen htc one x but surely s3 is better.
Htc has better budget phones though. Like wildfire S, desire etc are better than galaxy ace.
Meanwhile htc buzz ( wildfire ) is better than samsung galaxy young.
htc one x's build quality is far more better than s3,and in touchwiz vs sense, sense is a winner by a huge margin so i would say one x is better
about task manager, yes android does it by default for you.But with thiss app you get to decide which to kill and which to keep. But yes,i would say autokiller mem optimizer is better than this .

As i said, i've not yet seen htc one X. Also i'm fond of Sense compared to whatever samsung offers but i think S3 and note2 are better performance wise etc. It has an exellent battery life too.
Again i'd say, htc have better economical phones and samsung have the top best 2 phones.
Top 5 android devices includes Note 2, SGS3, Lg Nexus 4, htc droid dna and motorola droid razr. According to Cnet.
No mention of One X in top 5. Xperia Z might jump into this list as soon as it gets released.
whatever i said was according to me,not cnet
i think htc droid dna aka butterfly is better compared to Samsung ones.
HTC m7 looks promising too !
I would always go for HTC if i have to decide between samsung and HTC.
I dont want plastic in my hands !

Well everyone has his own choice. Now adays cant really differentiate coz alot of android phones have come in. Sony, huawei etc
Atleast for upgrading, i wont go for iphone because now i'm kind of addicted to making changes to roms and try a new rom every 2 days
AW: [Q] how effective is Samsung task manager
@Wasimk
Before a few months I had the same opinion as you but I had a HOX and after a few days the phone always made a loud 'click' sound while clicking on the display so the display was a kinda broken. I know that happens to maybe 1 of 1000 devices but that's not a good build quality.
HTC does also not support the community well (the 2012 devices still have no s-off etc.) And they don't optimize sense very well for example the (bad ) Tegra processor (micro-lags...)
I know Samsung makes only plastic crap but I never herd from people who are angry because of the bad build quality of high end phones:
Touchwiz is fast
The plastic back makes no annoying sounds
And the exynos processors are almost open source so the next time I would choose a Samsung device if I have to
Tapped from my beast the Nexus 4

If i have to choose i would choose samsung i guess... even i dont like that plastic back cover and phisical home button but it has simple look (may be bored of that look but...) And i guess sasmung on xda is popular and theres lota great roms...
i guess i'd choose galaxy S or S2 Nothing wrong with it.
To the op, a taskkiller is useful only when you have troublesome apps that freeze and won't shut down properly (its sometimes faster than going to the manage apps section in the menu), auto taskkillers will drain your battery more because they create a vicious circle, app starts, gets killed, starts again etc etc
All apps have hidden rules which when one of these rules is met by your phone allows the app to start, the trick is to block those rules, I wrote about an app called autostarts which can block those rules a while ago, i'll get the link in a mo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279021
And i agree that htc's feel better in the hand, and sense has a slight edge over touchwizz but that is about where the difference between HTC and Samsung ends, they both have equivalent hardware and both have there own faults, Samsung has a much much better update program, and most people on xda know exactly how to get rid of the crappy bits of touchwizz.
There is nothing you can't do on one that you can do on the other.

Very well explained. I agree with you totally here. Like i use "umano" news app which speaks out the news and rather than reading, you can just listen to articles. But the problem with that app is that it keeps on running in background. Found samsung task manager great in cyanogen roms but what to do with sense based roms ?

Try going to a review site then, this forum is dedicated to the Wildfire S; you'll get nothing but biased opinions (either people are happy with their phone or are not satisfied with its performance; they *will* reflect that in their reactions here)
Go for the Wildfire S.
+ camera light
+ 512MB internal memory
+ ambient light sensor
+ htc sense
+ last but not least: much better haptics due to the aluminium frame
- 600 Mhz
I needed a small Android phone and so I just bought it after comparing the Gio, the Ace and the Wildfire S in a Store. And: I own a Galaxy S and a Galaxy Tab, so no HTC fan boy here.
Please excuse my bad english.

I aso pondered between the two, but after reading a cpouple of reviews and seeing both tinkering with both phones in a store I went for the WS. I do admit, I am a HTC fan though. However, after 1 week I am pretty happy with it. I am using it primarily as a phone, no data or e-mail on it. Battery life is more than decent, it takes decent pictures as well.

Hi,
My Desire is rooted running GingerVillain 3.3. It has only a few programs installed, & is not as responsive as the Sensation XE, which is still running stock ROM.
I'm still keeping my Desire though. I like my Desire a lot, but to me the XE is an upgrade. So, if you are on a fence of switching, DO IT!!!

yup. I do agree that the size of the Desire is perfect. Thats why I'm still keeping it as a secondary phone.
I'm a type of guys who dont play games much on the phone, & dont regularly browse the internet. so, I HATE big phones. & the Sensation XE is big for my liking, but it's such a pleasure to use. & not too bad after awhile. I'm gonna enjoy it until the new quadcore phones released.
I'm afraid that the new HTC quad-core phones will increase in size comparing to the Sensation XE. I hope im wrong though.

I couldn't feel more different. I have to admit I love this trend. Sensation display size is not humongous as it is only 4.3 inches, in fact it seems the norm among upcoming and dual core phones.
Agree with you, on the the last point. I resent those hybrids phone/tablet devices such as Samsung galaxy note which are a bit extreme.
My Desire is almost two years old and lot of things have changed. I find it too small now as crazy as it sounds.
The only phones that I would upgrade to atm are Desire S (but it's not enough of an upgrade and I love my amoled screen...) and iPhone 4S.
I have been doing a bit of research for the iPhone, I like the polish of the GUI and most things, but... I would have to jailbreak it immediately, since there's no tasker-like software for the stock iPhone and SMS client is too limited.
I use GO Sms and private conversations a lot!
There is an app called My Profiles that offers similar functionality as tasker on the iPhone, but - you have to jailbreak it...
So, I guess no iPhone atm for me, it's just too limited...
Now, my Desire, after more than 2 years works perfectly and does more things than I have ever imagined a smartphone would do. And it does them with no lag.
Terepin, your phone is just too big for my taste. Have tried one, it's ok, but nothing special. I still prefer my old Desire.
Bought an XE but still keeping the Desire. The Desire still has lots of fight left in it and it's been a wonderful phone The XE (for me) is just the powerhouse when the Desire struggles (like playing GTA III).
I think the sensation xe will be next for me but will always have my old faithful Desire as a backup!
got Desire, fast, reliable and perfect size. Thinking about Sensation XE, but bother me size.
SD card slot...
the new HTC phone are juts mango phones with andriod on them , hence as MS dont like SD cards , nor do these phones.
My 32 GB card works wonderfully in my desire...
If you have a good phone like the sensations with SD card slot etc.. and 4 core ( eg much faster then my desire ) I'd be happy.. right now...
I have a cheep 10" tablet for web / email etc... ( that's been tweaked within an inch of its life )
Got my xe (upgrade from desire). Already rooted ics with beats .... So fast am so happy no game to big lol...
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
The only problem I have with the desire is the RAM. and the Sensation doesn't have much more ram ..
I like what Samsung does by putting 1 GB ram in all of their Flagships ..
Got desire recently and have sgs2 for long time and most of phones in my signature... Hunting HTC Titan, not because of screen size nor because of best WP7 device, HD7 was priority but now... I use Desire as main phone, and sgs2 as tablet or something like that.... Cool phone this desire good hardwer nice UI and from me grade 9/10 because low support from HTC i see and age... Cheers mates
I have the HTC Wildfire S but I am thinking of buying the Desire Z because the screen on my phone is too small to text! The buttons are so small. I have tried the Desire Z and like the physical keyboard. But I'm not sure if it's good enough for fast typing?
But maybe since newer android phones are bigger it would be just as easy to type on an on screen keyboard just as a physical keyboard? They don't make many physical keyboard anyway nowadays. I would like an HTC or Samsung.
So should I get the HTC Desire Z, or get a newer HTC phone with just an on screen keyboard?
How good is the physical keyboard?
How good is the on screen portrait keyboard?
how good is the on screen landscape keyboard?
Thanks
The screen on the Z isn't that much bigger, so I don't know if you'd be able to type any better/faster on the screen than the Wildfire S. But the physical keyboard is very good. Not actually as good as older HTC phones, like the Touch Pro 2. The keys could stand to protrude a bit more, and press down farther. And the lack of dedicated number row is also a step backward. But still very good compared to keyboard from other manufacturers. Typing is definitely faster on the Z's physical keyboard than on the virtual keyboard, and probably rivals or beats virtual keyboards on bigger screened phones.
Have you tried the Swype keyboard on your Wildfire S? I pretty much can't stand typing on-screen without Swype, which makes it more bearable. Get Swype by going to their website and signing up for the beta:

As for opinions on whether to buy the Z or not, there is another recent thread, with plenty of responses/opinions for you to consider:

Define "fast". Its a phone that is about a year and a half old. Its acceptable for most tasks. And with the right ROM and overclocking, it can be made to perform smoother. But its starting to show its age versus the 1.5 GHz multicore flagship phones coming out now. And the One X looks like it may redefine tasks and blow away even the phone currently on the market.

Well, I've already mentioned that I have to use Swype, otherwise screen keyboards drive me crazy. And I'm on CM7 right now, so I can't tell you much about the stock Sense screen keyboard. It works well enough, from the times I've used it. But I tend to make lots of typos on this size screen.
If you mean that the Wildfire S is not supported by the Swype beta, then there are plenty of similar apps available. Or more recent HTC firmware (and custom ROMs) contains HTC Trace, which is their Swype clone.
You have 2 choices get a galaxy nexus or wait it out til HTC announces a qwerty device whenever that may be.
Vision is really fun to upgrade it and change roms and the other things... Its fun to wait for those fully working ICS roms, to dream about stable sense 4.0 roms, flash kernels, radios, mods... If I would buy a Nexus, it wouldnt be such a great experience. I would just download some apps and maybe root it...
Anyway Im very satisfied with Vision and I will change it only, when it gets really weak behind the newest devices. Kinda like wildfire now... Not the wildfire S

Why do you say there are only 2 choices? The HTC One X looks to blow away the Galaxy Nexus in terms of CPU speed, and will be released in most markets in April/May.. And the Galaxy S3 is probably going to be announced/unveiled at some point in the next few months. And that is if you are recommending the absolute top performing phones. There are plenty of other existing phones on the market that would also meet the OP's needs.

I'm also on a bit of a budget. In Canada (where I live), Bell does not longer sell the Derise Z. I found one being sold online for $200 in my area. I will either buy the Desire Z or get something like the HTC One X once my contract is up in 2 years. Also, I was looking at the Samsung Captivate Glide as a very good up to date phone with a physical keyboard.

1st question: The only on-screen keyboard I can imagine to reach half the typing comfort of the Desire Z's physical keyboard is the Galaxy Note's one. But to lead to the
2nd question: The physical keyboard is quite comfortable and the keys are perfectly arranged for my (medium sized) hands.
3rd question: If you mean the Desire Z's on-screen keyboard - install a different one! The stock Sense keyboard is quite slow compared to the stock Android one. I also prefer Swype for daily use but the Sense one is definitely not optimal. If it comes to typing comfort itself - the on-screen keyboard is good for one-hand typing if you really have to or are just too lazy to "slide" out the physical keyboard.
4th question: If you mean the Desire Z's on-screen keyboard - one-hand typing -> portrait on-screen keyboard | two-hand typing -> physical keyboard (no need to use a landscape on-screen keyboard )
As much as I love my Desire Z, I can definitely tell it's getting dated.
If possible, I would suggest you find a phone with perhaps a bigger screen (for your typing/texting needs) and with a newer processor. With some more intensive tasks or games, the desire Z definitely shows its age.
Although, I understand that you have a budget, and if you cannot find something dual core, you are probably very well off with a Desire Z.

I did, In the U.S our Vision devices are stock android.
The HTC One X looks very nice and I can imagine that it will be touting a hefty price tag when available. I currently have a G2 which I am very pleased with, for the most part. Typing emails and text is very fluid and fast but I am asking for more (especially for browsing and gaming).
I guess I need to start saving my pennies.
So here is the deal, I had a Sensation before my One X, and since this phone has Tegra 3 I would assume it run a lot smoother! And overall it does, actually every single app is much more fluid, and switching apps are fast and smooth, but the Facebook app is horrible! I know, it's always been, but compared to my old Sensation, the One X isn't doing well here..
Yes I know FriendCaster is available, but I actually prefer the official app on a phone.. So is anybody experiencing this? And is this really where we can see the power of custom kernels? Or am I completely stupid and alone on this..?
Edit: And sorry if this has been discussed.. Haven't been on here that much lately..

It really depends what you call 'sluggish'. Coming from the Facebook app on an iPhone for example, the official Facebook app on the one x takes longer to start and also does not provide a smooth scrolling experience as on the iPhone.
Compared to other Android devices, it feels pretty much the same on most of them. Looking at LG 2x and SGS II they all feel quite the same.

+1 - I HATE the facebook app. They really need to sort it out!
The worst recent change they made was to wait until you get a gps position BEFORE???? loading the news feed. so you could sometimes end up waiting a loooong time before you see anything. Its shocking coding by them.
I heard a while ago that they only have one dev working on the android one, but a team who do the iphone one. Maybe this has changed now, but if not, they need to consider some changes!
The FaceBook app could really do with GPU Acceleration.
Theres no reason to why clicking out the sidebar should be choppy, and the fact that the loading spinner is sluggish
I actually like how the official FB app is, EXCEPT how delayed and laggy scrolling can become!

Yeh that's real crap you can however stop it, if your rooted get lbe security it allows you to controll the permissions of everything system apps included.
I want to know why it need my location on the news feed? I could understand on the status updates screen.

As Xperia Z is 5 inches FHD screen with 13 mp camera back and 2 mp in front , with also going to get 4.4 kitkat .
Is it a good to go decision to sell my htc one x and go for Sony Xperia Z ?!
what I will be losing is sense ui , beats audio and ips screen .
So help me out please ?! Would highly appreciate the same!
*** do not suggest me any other phones not even z1, etc ***
The most logic thing would be to get an HTC one, I have the Sony xperia z but honestly I'd rather the HTC one because of the design, developer support etc, although you won't regret buying the xperia z haha

I need to see my pocket so only please anyone just tell me for xperia z . Thank you as you told me that I won't regret buying if I'll go for xperia z from htc one x .
Please let me know more if screen clarity/quality will be really better than one x, in-ear sound will be better or equal to beats audio sound? Camera is really good in normal and low light or not ?! battery performance ?! and anything else ?!
Ok, sound you may prefer htc, cause they are one of the best at sound, the Sony xperia z in-ear is not bad, but the external speaker is way worse than htc, I don't really use the external speaker, as I have bluetooth speaker and headphones.
The screen is really good as good as htc or maybe better, bigger screen and good visual angles (I'm not English I don't know the word, I mean that you can see the device really well even if you tilt the screen) camera is a whole way better than htc, specially the stock one, I mean If you flash a custom rom you'll lose some features, but it'll still be amazing. I gotta say it's not that great when dark, but, can htc one take a video under the water?
The battery isn't the best thing of the xperia z, it's alright, depending on your use, If you just use message and stuff during the day it may last until 6 o'clock. Although I've seen a really big improvement using custom roms such as cyanogenmod and aokp. I've used pac rom, the phone will be great and you'll really make use of the 5 inch screen, but the battery won't be that great, still, I highly recommend you to give it a chance.
I think that's it, if you need anything else, let me know, btw I may sell my xperia z on perfect conditions, If you're interested, contact me,
Thanks button if I helped
I know you're saying that we shouldn't suggest you other phones. But, have you considered the Nexus5? It's available for Rs. 28999 on the playstore. Almost the same as Xperia Z(maybe a little less).

My dad has a Xperia z and the speakers although clean are as silent as well something really quiet. My one x is louder but to me not as clean. If it was me, I'd go with a nexus 5, HTC one or wait a bit and see what comes out of mwc and the events after.

Ah, I see. I think it'll be wiser to stay with the OneX for now and save some money and buy the next flagship. The Z will be a very minor upgrade in terms of performance and you'll notice that OneX screen and speaker is a lot better.

Ya I better save and go for htc one single sim soon or its next if something like that comes, will not go for dual sim . Damn htc one 801 is good but they copied something from nokia in its camera, so secretly htc compromised with nokia and stopped making it and are just selling the dual sim which is expensive and lacks that camera technology.

And with the MWC so near, we all see phones from other manufacturers as well. But for me, HTC is still the #1 choice.
