Hey guys,
New to this board, but not to Android dev in general. I'm actually making this thread to gauge interest in an Android theme site? A quick search showed that there were at least 2 others considering sites, but nothing solid.
Since I make themes for phones, I'd actually started on a site a while back based on my iPhone theme site. The iPhone site was scrapped for the same reason the Android one was: it's way too hard to theme for average users! There's too much technical stuff, so I didn't think it would be worth it to make a site for a small group.
I've been revisiting the idea lately though since I stumbled upon the source code, and I still have the domain I grabbed last year. So, show of hands, anyone interested?
uh, actually the theme site is almost done, and there is already a ROM site in development, if you would like to help go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3807449#post3807449
thank you.
and, i dont see any of your themes anywhere, you signed up this month, have one post to date, and you spelled your user name wrong.
Clearly I ruffled your feathers.. I'll assume you're one of the ones working on the theme site.
As far as not seeing my themes anywhere, did you not read that I said that I scrapped the site because the public at large wouldn't benefit from it? As for me signing up this month, I signed up TODAY and I made note of the fact that I was new in my post.
I understand you may feel in someway threatened, but tone it down a bit.
*edit* so I did misspell the name (or rather mistyped on the iPhone I posted from). *tosses a cookie*
no offense, i have just seen 4 other people this month try to start a theme website while we have one in the works. and having so many people working on so many sites it would just turn into a mess. it seemed a little odd that your account was so new yet you said you had been theming for awhile.
if you seriously want to work on a theme site, then please go to the thread stated above, leave your info, check out what they have built so far.
we can definitely use the help.
i just didnt want to see another seemingly n00b trying to make yet another theme website.
i apologize for being rash in the first post, however you have to admit it looked a little odd, especially with the themesdroid thread on the same page.
Understandable, and I concede to your point. No noob here though, have been building websites for years.
For reference, www.ithemer.com is an old domain and is an example of the type of site that we had started for droidthemer - you can also check the whois and see that it wasn't just made today
As I said, I did do a search, but I didn't take note of the date, I thought it was a dead project as I did see posts discussing what to use and delays etc. For the most part, this was a completed site (including making screenshots from the uploaded assets - something ithemer has as well) that just never saw the light of day.
If these guys are going to launch soon and have the backing of the community, there isn't a need for another one.

Did you pay attention to where you posted. THEME'S & WALLPAPER under Dream. Whats wrong with posting here? The only people that have issues finding what they need don't use search. As others have mentioned there have already been suggestions for this. Not to be a jerk but devs post here and update their threads here. They're already busy enough with theirs projects. I'm not speaking for them but doubt they'd post here and then somewhere else and then somewhere else again, etc...

I'm actually not sure what your post means. I'm not being sarcastic either. I don't get what you mean about devs being busy with their projects? I'm not asking any devs to join in? I was asking if anyone was interested in the launch of a mostly-complete site.

as I have said, if there is no interest, or another option is just about done, then no biggie. I'm not here to spam, flame or cause problems. I'd appreciate the same respect.

I'd just like to say, that this person has already admited to being new to the forum. It has been established that this person has experience in modding
software for mobile devices, as well as designing websites. I am of the opinion that this person could be a valuable asset to this community. I don't think it is
a good idea to act so rashly to someone who obviously isn't familiar with the vast amount of new people who just post wherever.
Try to be a little more positive. If every new poster is treated with this type of elitist attitude it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience, and they could be
turned away from the forum.

I agree, if he'd like to start his own site let him, we already have 1 theme site that has been up for a while while the other one is still being planned. For other phones there are multiple sites, what does it matter how many there are if it serves the community as a whole. And just because Driod is new doesn't mean he hasn't themed for android before. I'm sure there are plenty of people on other sites that make themes that are never seen here. XDA is not the only place people go for android discussions.
Thanks for the words daryl. As I said, I don't really fault him for being suspicious off the bat, in a tight-knit community that may be prone to spam/noobness, it's easy to become accustomed to raising the eyebrow first.
I was more annoyed with the follow-up posters that didn't seem to read the thread but still wanted to jump on the bandwagon.

I know themesdroid is planned, is there one already live? Competition is good, but at the same time, you don't want to beat a dead horse. If there's a good solution, let it ride.
Also, a site like this doesn't thrive without the help of the community, so again, I'm sorry if I ruffled any feathers, it wasn't my intention
how insecure do you have to be malaeus (or whatever)
Oh my god Malaeus or whatever his name is being super lame for acting like a complete jackass. I nominate him for douchebag of the year; I mean how completely rude of you to act like you own the internet (who are you supposed to be? Al Gore). GOD FOBID someone make a website about something they like. I guess androidguys.com droiddev droidappz g1wallz allshadow and ****ing HTC & T-Mobile must have his expressed written consent to create anything G1 related huh? I personally have sold/designed 7 websites these past two months and don't recall asking anyone in the related fields if I could do so before buying the domain names. Jesus, lose the lame ass god complex (or short man's syndrome) as for DroidThemer, I personally will register to your site simply because I'm not an ahole who is afraid of change/challenge or competition. Maybe someone (malaeus) should try to get off their high horse or learn a little common courtesy. DroidThemer as a fellow graphic/web-designer id love to help in any way to design your site. Email me.

Looks like parmijo11 is not paying attention, as the guy clearly stated that he themes for bot iphone and android. ugh, had to add my 2 cents.
i want to point out another fact to people mainly maleus just because you dont have alot of posts on the forum doesnt mean anything take a look at when i signed up and how many posts i have to date not many but that doesnt mean i dont know anything ive made alot of themes not only for android but also windows mobile, manilla 2d, and blackberry but alot of my themes i did not post, mine were mainly for personal use or for friends who had requests but couldnt find the theme they wanted. but now we all know why i dont have many post because of people that dont have any common courtesy for other people and in the end its those ppl that are hurting the rest of the community not the people that come on here start an account and use their first post to propose a genuinely good idea !!!
Well, if there is honest interest, I could go forward with producing the site. I had an idea to help make themes ROM-agnostic, but it looks like even if it worked, it would be obsolete in a few months when people start altering the XML layout files.
i say go for it
alright, gonna finish up this theme site for another platform and then look into the best way to execute that
I honestly see this community if it keeps up like it is with all the [email protected] being talked in this thread going to turn into the Evo one. For those that don't know quick back story. 2 major shops have split the community because of there hate for another and have blasted both who support them. This is how this is looking. Look at the Honda community its all apart and will never be like it used to be because of this. This is NOT what we need to happen here. Please make this site and for kicks talk with the guys doing the other one and link them because only good thing that comes from multiple sites are compition and I'm sorry but if there was only one car company it would produce crap because it could. 2 major sites "fighting" but acting like one will only make sure both are on top of there game. So please one more beg of making the site.
alright, what I'm going to do initially is just allow uploading of wallpapers and themes and specification of which ROM it's for. When I get a little time, I'll fight with the idea of automatically porting themes.
I know there are some ROMs whose themes are similar so that shouldn't be an issue. So perhaps I'll make it where you can check off if you want the site to try to port for you or you can upload your own port.
cool
go for it!

Just wondering - there seems to be across various threads hints at reasons not too, such as iffy GPS & battery performance hit.
Anything I should be aware of before I try ( just made a Goldard )
If you screw up the Apps2SD installation, you can kiss your USB functionality goodbye. It's less concerning because it's affecting very few people, but it's more concerning because nobody really knows why it happens in the first place. They're still working on possible fixes.
I've experienced better battery life, myself.

Search! Read! Post new thread anyway? Sigh!!!
I came on the forum for a look around about 45 minutes ago, ever since I have been reading and reporting threads (as per recent mod request) that shouldn't exist in the first place.
Please search, read, learn instead, far more fruitful and doesn't damage the forum usability for everyone else.
Good thread. I learned something here.
Go easy on the OP.
It's not that easy to search and find the older threads because few people tag their threads. In this case he did fine the threads but perhaps he wants to know in the context of THIS phone? Also, this thingy evolves very fast so an updated info is probably warranted.
Sorry j-zeus if I was a little over zealous there. This was about the fifth thread I had come across. I'm sure you can appreciate the irony of stating in your OP that you had found other threads on the subject but that you had decided to start a new one anyway.
Anyway, I didn't mean to be rude or combative, I just wanted to point you in the right direction for future posts. It really does make life easier if the forum is well organized without multiple threads on the same subject.
Cheers.
One reason NOT to root now that I could think of:
Google IO is only few weeks from now (May 19-20), there they will most probably announce Froyo, Android 2.2.
It would be wise to wait what will come out.
APP2SD will be native if they include it in 2.2 (I [email protected]!).

No worries - I do know how to search and did. I find it somewhat over the top as it throws up 28 thousand snippets of information that you have to trawl through only to find it's out of date already - and for a non techie like me this leads to masses of confusion. I post the question to get the latest feedback, not stuff from 2 months ago ( also as posted it helps others too ).
1 reason is: it wipes your phone and you get a random other rom, which might have stuff missing you are used to.
sense for example is missing for sure.
This is the kind of thread where my sig really makes a lot of sense...

I agree the search facility is not the best on this forum and after searching for a few hours its easier to give up as i have normally lost the will to live by then.
and it's funny that there's an exact same thread right below this one.

Sense is only missing if you... pick a ROM that's missing Sense. That's a very silly and misleading thing to say.
The default rootedupdate.zip that's provided with the unlocking method is just the stock ROM with root; it still has Sense. Half the ROMs on XDA for the Desire still have Sense. Saying you lose Sense when you get root is just flat-out false.

Thats not on really, I did try the search before I added my post and I was easily able to find threads relating to this topic which is where this question should have been posted. Even the OP acknowledges the existence of other threads in the.. er... OP.
I added a note to the J-Zeus in case he/she felt my response was over zealous as upon re-reading it it does sound a little sarcastic and he/she has responded amicably. The thread has been moved since my post.
I have been using this forum ever since I got involved in hacking my XDAII (new account since then as lost my details) and the desire section is the messiest I've seen, I guess because this is the first iPhone killing android phone and has proven to be unbelievably popular. I was only trying to ensure this forum remains usable, ordered and collaborative.
What I said was in line with the forum rules, your response isn't.

BTW I don't know if you have spotted but there are 3 search tools on the forum. The one at the top between new posts and quick links is a...
'site:xda-developers.com <your term here>' Google search.
But once you are in a thread, at the top of the OP there is the option to 'search this thread' which may help out in some searches as it is, of course, limited to the current thread only.
In any given forum section, in the same position, there is the option to 'search this forum'

By no means guaranteed but hopefully! I am sure they will make it exclucive to the N1 for a while. Even if there is no official update I rather suspect it'll find it's way onto the device through the Devs here and else where.

IMO that would be very strage if Desire wont get Froyo and would be dated after two months.
But I have seen Google Nexus One with Desire's OS, which means we will be able to put Nexus One's or Magic's Froyo if it wont be offered officialy ?

Modest and unassuming as we are, we normally delete praise as soon as it appears. (That's why you don't see much of it)
However, I think it's time for a change in that policy
I dont know how people will react to my thread. So I want to refer to what we stand for!
As always I want make sure everyone knows that im not a new user Ive been here for over 8 years now and seen this site just when it started I started a thread before to see If I could find some of the pioneers on the site and they give their stories to share with us.
But Ive seen them all going from my treo 750 (windows mobile) and three othe wm phones to my few android devices ive been here Ive currently reside over at the now slow dhd/inspire forums as my temporary home.
But development there has become slow not for the fact that the device has reach its limits. As the Hd2 proove this wrong. But by the fact of people that have entered development with a "indibidualist" mind set.
What is this?
Weve reach what we have over the year becoming a universal development forum ( even with iphone development) By having one state of mind and one only. Enriching each other with knowledge. This way we all make our way in to making the best of our highly paid devices. Weve all been ripped off by companies who want to take our money by simple and some times uselees upgrades or "improovements". We stood up for that and weve made phones live longer ans give us the best experience. Why should we risk this for fame. And being the "first" to do this or that!
Why would we become exclusive to what we have and dont eant to share and become improoved.
Ive been in over 5 forums were ive moved from a tester to mod makind and a Moderator at some. Ive never encounter this issue as we were all in that state of sharing and improoving. We fought only the big companies whom at times were cought by our demands like Lg on the incite... were we fought our way into inprooving the use od the gsensor.
But why would I want to take down someone who is working to improove what I did. This example happened to me with sense3.5 which till this day we dont have a proper md10 tool. Ive search the web and developed a dusk skin for a fancy widgets apk. I asked Gadget and he gladly said yes to my request. That was used and ported all over the forums like the amase and Rezound for sense 3.6. And Ive never went and took anyone out for posting what was originaly my work.
Why should anyone do it?
It only takes real development to a set back......
Food for thought!!!!
just wanted to speak my mind, not wanting to offend nobody...

I think if you've put hours of work in to a particular project, then see it posted elsewhere with someone else taking the credit then you've got every right to be annoyed.
yes, and I did but when I saw what they did with my original version and idea was exceptional. Anf I ended up praising their work. At the end of the day is the attitud we have that matters. I know im not even close to been the smartest and talented so seen my idea go even further is a + for me

I'm having issues with a Samsung Galaxy S2 T989 where every time I place the phone on speaker, the call becomes choppy and blanks out completely at times, sounding as if I had no signal whatsoever. This started out with the stock rom so I decided to root it. I went from ICS to JB on Cyanogenmod. I flashed a newer radio because it would otherwise not let me flash anything. I tried flashing UVMC6 and it did not improve it. I then flashed UVMB1 (the 4G Blaze radio) and it still does the same thing. Call quality over the ear piece is good, but it all goes out the window when I use speakerphone.
I checked off the box on "Noise Suppression" and it doesn't do anything at all. The sound is still choppy over speakerphone. I've searched up on the forum, and so far the threads that come up are from 2012 or early 2013, but I assume that T-Mobile has made new radio/baseband settings since then.
My question is, what is the most stable radio/baseband to use on the T989 to get rid of the speakerphone problem, or is this problem a design flaw since the speaker is near the microphone?
All help is appreciated.

There are only 2 radios that work on jelly bean...the newest T-Mobile one and the telus one. That's it.
Sent from my N5, N7, Moto X, G Tab 3 or S2.....

Also, some custom ROMs could have noise issues. You have to read through their threads to see. Or post in their threads.
Stock jelly bean should be flawless if thats what you want. Or a 4.1.2 touch wiz based ROM.
Good luck!

Thanks for your very short, almost arrogant, half of an answer. We are here to help each other and by doing so teaching us something that someone taught you at one time.
I se that you have said in two different posts that there are only two that will work in a build that new but, in both posts you have neglected to tell which two those are. You would think that if one was tryingto be helpful instead of posting to be an ass and belittle a person who doesn't know as much as you, that you would be kind enough to have those two versions listed in the two very informative posts you spent so much time writing.

Here you go. I searched for you and/or anyone and found this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
First 2 radios in the list in the opening post. Apparently the mirror links are the ones to use.
Without scolding people for not searching like many will do, or giving them attitude, I like to encourage people to search for things... without a big long lecture. I'm sorry if that didn't sit well with you.
I gave a quick and precise answer. Possibly assuming most know what the 2 radios are.... it's been a long time this way on 4.1.2 or anything above. My bad.
Take care.
I appreciate the response and the link and the apology. I wasn't looking for either of those from you though. I was merely reading different posts and replies and it amazes me how lazy or just not driven to learn and read most of the new, and not so new , members are about about searches to find what they are looking for. It does get to be time consuming for some searches and some don't even try.
On the other side of the coin,it does get old reading questions that are answered in stickies or that one sees two or three times a week being asked throughout the site.
But, as a member who isn't too far from still being a noob but, has enough time in to see both sides of the fence , there is and always has been an almost elitist, ego among members who do know more than most. It can be intimidating to ask for help because of the way they get replies. Some people k ow nothing about cell phones that come here looking for help and then get berrated for posting in the room, or not knowing what OS or kernel is installed on their device.
I just wanted to remind you that you were probably one of those guys for some time and that posting a quip that doesn't do anything to help or guide the OP to the right answer. It just adds to the stress he or she is under because their device is not working right and they don't to feel stupid for not k owing something. We all know that feeling and it sucks.
I hope he got the links and one of them works. Thanks for posting the links and what you said. We're allhere for one basic goal. To learn and teach. Let's keep to that course on the ship were sailing on XDA

You're entitled to your opinion. Many would have found my original reply more than good enough. As many have in the past. Some maybe not. Remember tho, I don't work for XDA, I'm not paid to help anyone. I'm entitled to say or not say whatever I'd like. (Within XDA rules of course) As are you.
I'm sorry my original reply didn't contain enough info for you personally.....
But some of your accusations are rather insulting.... You don't get a green name on XDA being the type of person you have accused me of being. Yes many around are exactly like you describe..... I am not.
And I'm not here to take part in arguments either.
So let's agree to disagree. And leave it at that.
And keep in mind, blasting people for not helping "enough" or in the way you hoped for will probably get even less help and just more arguments.
Anyway, take care.
