I have an unlocked and rooted Xperia Play Verizon CDMA 800x. With Android 4.04 4PDA-XPLAY-GAMER-ULTRA AND KERNEL 2.6.32.9-LUPUS-ICS-BETA. Great system for an 800i but problem is that it is a Gsm version only. So i can't use my phone lol
Im new to this! so, if you have any good kernels and rom that are CDMA compatible & fully functional can you send them my way. I have bricked my phone a couple times so im looking for somthing pretty easy to do. so a tutorial would help thanks.

You can use any ICS or JB kernels on your R800x. You just cant use GSM gingerbread kernels on your xperia play. There are only 2 xperia play kernels which is lupus and doomkernel. Thats about it.

Hello, I saw and tried the cdma version of Keiran's Darkforest ROM, while I like how smooth and the Sony Ericsson launcher is but I missed t-mobile's theme chooser from team freexperia's cm7 rom. I was hoping some devs would tell/write what some of the key differences are between gsm and cdma are. I've read somewhere that one core is for radio and another is for everything else and the radio core is the reason why're so different. Idk how true that last sentence is though.
why not download the cdma version of cm7?
Because I want to try and convert other gsm roms to cdma.
You'd be the first to convert a PLAY GSM rom to CDMA if you do, so good luck
Seeing as all roms are different what one in specific do you want to convert?
What about KeiranFTW's Darkforest rom? I thought that was a conversion?
And I have a couple I'd want to do imo the first one I'd try to do is ICS MIUI from pricey2009's thread. I've seen a number of posts/threads saying its possible so this thread is to ask for devs and ppl to post what they know and try to make it work.
start by replacing the following libs with the cdma variants
libcm.so
libgsdi_exp.so
libgstk_exp.so
libmmgsdilib.so
libnv.so
liboncrpc.so
libpbmlib.so
libril.so
libril-qc-1.so
libuim.so
libwms.so
Alright, I'll try with doom's kernel and see how it goes.
although I think the kernel might need some work or it could be the miui rom. because just replacing those ^ files my phone wont go past the booting DooMkernel screen. Wiped data, cache from stock rom before I ran the miui updater script.
Any news or updates on your attempts at converting a GSM rom to CDMA?
Not anything new unfortunately. : (
I don't think converting the aokp from was new either as its cm9 based so I did the same thing as pax did for cm9. Except super venom did the real work compiling it with Xperia vendor/ parts whatever.

The most we can do is in ICS.
AOKP/CM9 are fully compatible from a GSM variant.
Sony Beta is a different story.

ICS and GB roms have different kernels so before you try to use install the rom from CWM make sure you have installed the correct kernel. I'm not too sure what options are available anymore for locked bootloaders because most roms now incorporate tweaks that aren't supported by them. I would just take a look around the dev section for ROM, if they don't specify they need a unlocked bootloader then drop the dev a mail asking.
Thank you
It honestly looks like every single rom I have come across requires unlocked boot loader. That why I thought I would if some one has seen something specific
Basically I want a leaner and smoother rom then the current Sony one

Best one I found was the t.e.a.m stock from for 2011 xperia devices. Also installed the xperia big pack theme from the theme section. Looks and performs great man. I am also on a locked boot loader for now but am very happy with the look and feel of this

thanks alot. i tried the theme pack but somethings werent working. like the contacts app. so went back to stock
its best to unlock the bootloader because good custom roms need unlocked bootloader
im not sure if this is in right spot but i need a custom rom and kernal that will work with sony ericsson r800at i just got the bootloader unlocked and am stuck trying to find this info if this is in wrong spot in forum i am sorry in advance
Look in the Development section... just about any GSM ROM will do, since AT&T is a GSM service:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1093
I've been using DarkForest, but I'm not sure how actively it is being developed anymore, so I'm considering trying JokaWild.
I've also used TEAM Stock which is a little different since it really just patches the stock rom you're already using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507280
As for kernels, the DoomKernel seems to be the standard for unlocked devices.
I haven't tried the ICS stuff yet, though so can't offer any advice if you want to go that way. I'm still waiting for a bit more maturity and assurance that games will still work.
Or if you want to go the non-stock route, you can try one of the CyanogenMod builds. Just keep in mind the gamepad will not work the same for all apps/games and some games may not work correctly. (I personally switched to Stock roms when the GameLoft Spider Man game crashed on startup on CM7)

My friend has a xperia play from at&t which is sim unlocked and he wants to try a few custom roms. His phone "bootloader unlocking allowed" is "no".
It is only rooted but with stock recovery and stock rom. So can anyone guide me how to install custom recovery and what roms can be flashed on locked bootloader for sim unlocked at&t xperia play? Or there's no way to do that?
He is willing to run jellybean based roms.
I have searched around but it is getting confusing and I did not find any specific guide for at&t xperia play.
Please help!
Edit: his xperia play says the model is r800i in the *#*#7378423#*#* menu but it is from at&t. I don't know why it says r800i maybe because he had flashed the 2.3.2 ftf made for r800i.....
Either your friend did it or someone else, his phone is running an R800i rom, so either from a FTF or custom ROM that was flashed....i this a second hand Xperia PLAY your friend has?
Yes i asked him he said he flashed r800i ftf himself. And please let me know which ftf and rooting method should i use to root the at&t xperia play and the steps to install custom recovery and which roms will work
EDIT : I see you edited it yourself.
Bump.... Please anyone?
EDIT : I see you edited it yourself.
just searched a bit and found this....
First you have to look if your friend's phone is an r800 at or i. if it's blue then it is an at (as it should be being an AT&T) or just remove battery and look behind the phone.
I just looked for it on google writing this "what rom works on r800at" and found this
1 . R800at ROM Questions Read the whole thread. itr's only 3 pages. It essentially says that any r800i (internatinoal, non branded model) ROM works in r800at since both are gsm based. Just have to set up apn setting. But r800x roms doesn't work with r800at because they are CDMA not GSM
2. What is the best rom for gaming? R800at. I have an r800a (branded model) and I recomend this one DiXperia 2 'Everlasting' | Performance. Stability. Experience. but if you're looking for a jellybean-like just flash [ROM] [GSM] [2.3.4] Gin2JellyBean [v1.8.4] - |Fast|Smooth|Stable|Eye Candy|. It looks like jelly bean but it's Gingerbread based.
Anyway, you only can flash stock-based ROMs if you have locked bootloader, and the Xperia Play never got official jellybean, so you are restricted to only GB-based and ICS-based roms. Just get some GB based themed with jelly bean!!!!! Also if you have locked BL you have to stick with stock kernel and can't oveclock. Sorry:crying:
Please click on "thanks" buttons if I helped

Check the tutorials and FAQ in my signature they should give more than enough information
Im guessing you know about this FAQ things RC's are doing
I found this Rom that I really likehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2108386. I was wondering how to convert it to a CDMA rom. I know there are patches that can do it like the AtariiKieranFTW9 patch, but all of the threads I can see say you can't ever port a GSM Rom to a CDMA phone. Can anybody tell me why some roms are patchable and some roms aren't?
You can use use custom jb and ics on your R800x. But you cant you use custom gb on your r800x. The "x" is there for a reason no support from developers and because they dont have the "x" themselves. So what they are doing now is guess work. Like I said before you can install jb and ics on your R800x. You will have voice but no data or internet access from your provider.

I know that if you install a GSM rom on a CDMA phone that you can't get Data or internet, but I also know there are some roms like AOKPlay and CM9 that were written for GSM where you can use the AtariiKieran patch and use the full features on a CDMA phone. What I'm trying to understand is why that patch works for those ROMs..
