Flashable Radios - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Are there any Flash able radios or anything that can improve signal on 4.2 based ROMs like AOKP or CM. When I flash a touchwiz based ROM as shown 3-full bars but on 4.2 based roms I get no more then 1-2 in the same spot/area.

One get this out of development.
Two, there's fewer signal bars on aosp roms. Two bars=3 bars

Its like saying....one of my friends tells me one thing and the other tells me something else. Just because i like what one of them tells me better, how can i make the other one say the same thing?
Plus, i know for a fact that its built into the code for stock TW roms to scale the "bars" up so it looks like you have better signal. I would suggest just leaving it the way it is because AOSP is the truer indicator

Some questions!

Ok so I have a few questions if you guys would allow me to pick your brains.
I have installed cm9.1 on the galaxy s2 (SGH-T989) using clock work recovery. The phone is rooted using superSU. Pretty standard as far as it goes here. However:
<s>1) I have no wifi calling option and its running android 4.0.4 (ICS). Is this normal for this rom or do I need a different kernal or modem/radio to make this work? Because stock has this feature and its really important to keep message/calling costs down and get service in dead zones.</s>
2) I cannot get 4G data. Only "H" and 3G. I got Edge/2G/3G/4G with stock. Is this normal or do I need to do something else to get this to work?
3) What are good custom kernals to use for this phone because I looked on the sticky and there are only three listed and some are discontinued. Also what are the major advantages of a custom kernal over samsungs stock? I.E. What does it add/modify?
4) Do custom radios change signals your phone can pick up? What exactly does changing the radio do?
THANKS!
~NEW!~
1)Since no wifi calling is a deal breaker for me I'm going to try a new rom, so! I'm looking at darkside and akop. Any opinions on these roms or experiences you guys have had with these good or bad?
2) CWM vs TWRP ~ GO!
Just trying to get better informed. Thanks everyone! :highfive:
Also if there are guides I missed that explain these things I'm sorry just link me to them if you would be so kind. Thanks!

This and stick with stock kernels for now. Different radios work better in different areas, so just try until you find the best one for you.

Haha yea after I got the answer I felt dumb I just never saw the little icon use "H" to explain a radio type and didn't think about that related to 4G as standing for hspa. Also I learned hspa exists using WCDMA. Cool. :victory:
The "H" means HSPA+ which is 4g.
Only Touchwiz ROMs have Wifi Calling (CM9 is AOSP Based)
The best kernel to use is the Darkside Venom Kernel for CM9 AOSP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775075
As far as radios go they can change the amount of signal. Certain radios make signal better in different areas. I PREFER THE GALAXY NOTE RADIO FOR Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile)
HOPE THIS HELPED!
Darkside, only tw roms have wifi calling, aosp roms like cm9,10 and aokp dont.

Is there a kernal i can flash with the stock rom that would give me iptables/netfilter?

Why no signlal bars in SR rom ports??

There has been a 4.1.2 SR touchwiz rom out for almost a month and still the rom ports here don't have signal bars.
Is it really that hard to make the signal bars work?
So what's the story with the no signal bars?

The story is that these builds were not coded with any if our radios in mind so they don't get the signal status from them right. We are lucky our radios even work on them in the first place.

Its because of the radios. The same things happen if sr users don't use the 2 new radios I saw some posts in their threads complaining. If it matters that much flash ucll3 in the sr forum but you will only run edge no 4g pick your poison

Pure Aosp Rom

I was wondering ..what is the problem with amking a pure aosp rom? Is it the files or just that cm is more reliable? I wish there was a pure aosp rom.not a fan of cm for a couple of reason one being that it reboots/bootloop every time on my phone with stock or ktoon kernel

There is a banned ROM/Kernel that's way closer to being pure AOSP over anything else. Haha I wont tell you where to find it but dig around. Im currently using it and its blown my mind why I ever used that lag fest TW stuff. 70% battery left, phones been on for 12 hours and thats on the first boot also, cant wait for it to settle.

Also, does this banned ROM have a smooth handoff between 3G/LTE/WiFi?
I ask because I have flashed several AOSP and AOKP ROMs and they all seemed to struggle for signal strength (thus, draining the phone battery much faster than a TW ROM).

rom with wifi calling

can anyone suggest me some roms with wifi calling? it is an important feature for me as i don't get much reception at home.
Tweaked. Bar none best rom.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You need a touchwiz based rom. The latest android vwrsion is 4.1.2, anything currently higher is non-TW and does not have wifi calling.
I'm currently using jedi master 14 which supports wifi calling. Also have used the older frosty jellybean.
Btw this question belongs in the q&a forum, so expect the moderators to move it.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Tweaked is the best!!! It has wifi calling and everything. The S4 themed Rom is also another good one those 2 are the best roms for the Note2
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
My vote is for Jedi Master 14. SaberKernel is by far the best out IMO.
I've never had an issue with lockups, sods, or random reboots. Tons of features
Plus you will love his installer. The themes are built right into the zip! ::good::
Also I think this is the wrong place for you to make a thread. This is the android Development section. This thread belongs in general or q&a.

I think with 4.1.2 tw ROMs it should show it, I tried it with an at&t s3 and it showed lte on statusbar, but not with 4.1.1 it would connect to it but just show 4g.. Of course idk if its different with the t-999l

At&t has lte, so their roms will have the ability to display it. The T999 isnt capable of lte, so its roms have no need to show it in the statusbar

Either way, it boils down to this. On a T999L you will get LTE if its available in your area. Whether or not is shows this in the statusbar is just rom dependant, but you will still get LTE.

cool all i want to do with my tmobile galaxy s3 lte is install a t999 custom rom that works with the t999l because the lte model has no roms yet,but if the t999 are compatable with no issue ill flash away,
just wanted to no if anyone had success and what was there procedure
the lte is incredibly fast night and day compared to the t999
There are a few things to look out for. Just re-read the first several posts in both my Q&A and Development threads and at least skim over the last few pages of the Q&A one.
