It runs a lot smoother than the stable build supplied to all android systems.
Update: test Jan 27th w/ HW acceleration is even more stable than the 21st release.

Experimental hardware video decoding builds for Nexus 7
This development is great. Now I can watch 1080p movies via net on my Nexus 7!
Now I use version from 2013.02.19
xbmc-20130219-32e99c7-android-hwaccel-armeabi-v7a.apk
from
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/android/
It's more stable for me than the alpha2 from 2013.04.03.
Hope we will get soon Hardware acceleration on standard version xbmc.

I use my N7 to control my htpc/xbmc. No interest in running xbmc on my N7. To me that's just overkill. With a file manager that supports SMB I can watch anything on my NAS within a few seconds. It would have made more sense for these guys to keep the xbmc app the same and simply allow you to play it on your android. I got a mini android PC and tried xbmc on it but an actual PC does a better job period.

I stream several movies not only my PC but my nexus7 as well. They even stream from navi x . to you it may not be worth it or make sense but when you want to watch a movie somewhere or you have a child that wants to watch something while you dip something it is very handy. So makes great sense to me.

Maybe the wrong thread but giving xbmc remote the ability to use the default media player on an android device would be welcome feature. To have the web add on in xbmc also support playback would be great. The default web addon is pretty plain as it is.
Maybe the current dev might see this as a nice and easy feature.

I believe its a video player
Thanks for the find, OP! The tegra 2 version works for me too.
I tried compiling VLC from source a while back but it never worked for me. For those who don't know, VLC is an open source media player; I first became a fan for my various Debian systems because it included the libraries for playing most DVDs.

Will VLC stream media from a WHS to my phone? I have it mapped as a network drive on my home PC (windows 7). Anyone know how to set this up (or link to a guide)? I can't find anything straightforward on google searches. I'd like to be able to access home content anywhere. Thanks.
The way I stream from my home server is to use bubbleUPnP. Just open the app up and find your media server. Then when you select the movie, you have to pick an external player to actually play the movie. I have been using mx player, but VLC should work too.
Thanks man. I went with Plex. It's a paid app but super easy to use and seems to work great. I can access my server files as well with no problem and it works on mobile network as well as wifi.
So I purchased a 32 gig nexus 7 about a week ago and really like it so far. I can even see it replacing my ipad as my primary tablet. However, the one app that always forces me back to my ipad is a jailbroken app called movie box that allows me to stream movies and tv shows for free. I was wondering if there is any android app out there that is similar (please do not mention crackle because imo that app doesn't cut it) that people are using. I know I can download torrents all day using ttorrent but was looking for streaming. Also, what are your guys' favorite apps to use on the nexus 7 that u couldn't do without?

You can get it in two ways:
1. The safe way:
Download Apk Extractor to your S3 and send the apk to N7 by bluetooth
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sylark.apkextractor
2. Download it directly from another site which has is cached (be carefull, because some apks might be modified to include malware. so check its permissions before installing):
http://androidvnd.com/download.php?id=com.gmtmobile.fullmovies.activities
I recommend the app TV Portal. It has free TV shows and movies.

I use some special XBMC builds that add great HW acceleration support, and then I install the Navi-X plugin inside of it.
Thousands of 720p/1080p movies and TV shows along with Live TV streams on my Nexus 7? Priceless. I've streamed Silver Linings Playbook and Wreck-it-Ralph just fine.

Purchased the Jynxbox and was somewhat disappointed at first. The wifi antena is horrible, you want to use a cat 5 connection for this TRUST ME regardless what the box says your connection speed is, it is NOT!
Once you have it setup, immediately root it which you can do from the recovery screen. Careful, once your in the recovery screen, there is no way out of it till you root. So back everything up first.
Install MX Player, MX Player Codec arm6 & arm7
Launch MX PLayer, within settings select decoder: check mark S/W decoder (local, Network) Un-check S/W Audio. Now for CPU Core limit, set it to two as the Jynxbox is dual core. Color depth choose 16bit since we are using S/W decoding.
Now navigate to xbmxhub and locate the xbmc android download. Install this, and run it for the first time.
This should help you get the best 1080 resolution till someone tweaks XBMC to use hardware decoding on android.
Within Android settings, I specified the standard display screen size which for my gym screen its 720. I also set the Audio to RAW. This will help you TONS in regards to voice dropping out during playback.
Hope this helps,
John.

I purchased this unit and I absolutely love it. it was very frustrating at first to get it working just right. There is not a lot of information out there quite yet, but it is growing rapidly.
It certainly doesn't work out of the box as everyone states. Now that I finally got it all tweaked it is a great little device. I am looking forward to the future when all the developers jump on it and start tweaking it even more.
The gyro remote is very difficult to get used too, but once you do, it is quite nice. There are times it doesn't respond like it should.

The Web Browser works fine, I also have facebook and twitter set up on it and many other programs and games. They all work great.
The biggest issue I found with getting XMBC to work properly was the "playercorefactory.xml" file. Most websites I went to recommend using the MX Player Free. I was having a lot of problems using just that player. So I downloaded Archos, TPlayer and WonderShare also. I set up my playercorefactory.xml file to use TPlayer as default.
I am using the following firmware:
last_update_Hiolux_20130205
And this is the version of XMBC I am using:
xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-2013-03-05-full-neon-a4e1e953d9cbfdc0b4d6b3624cdf289dd2ebf60e
Like I said, out of the box, it was very frustrating and unfortunately their isn't much information as of yet on the internet in regards to this little box. But I have noticed just in the past couple of weeks their is more and more people jumping on it. Once you get it running it is a great media player.

NO! this does not work with chromecast. it will work with DLNA-enabled TVs.
according to android authority:
"Starting in AllCast Beta 7, users can now cast their Google Drive and locally stored content over to any DLNA-capable device including many popular game systems (Xbox One, PS3, etc), Apple TV and most smart TVs. Due to the currently locked nature of Chromecast, the app does not support Google’s streaming device, however."

Unfortunately loads of people are reporting that Allcast beta 7 doesn't work with the PS3, but I found a work around if you have a Samsung galaxy phone:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqu7BPqjo4s&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Only works well with 720p mp4 and avi content.
What's with all those updates recently?
I received 3 alone yesterday, one today also dated back for yesterday.
Changing version numbers, but no changelog or other version history in the PlayStore.
PS
merry xmas!
