Hi people, is there a way to remove the stock app from HTC Corporation ???? i mean there are alot of useless programs i don't use and want them to remove.....but when i go to settings -> applications -> all applications tab i cant remove them.....why not
You can remove them using adb or if you have "s-off" you can just delete the .apk's

Using adb ??? do i need root to do so ? also i have s-on and i am affraid to brick my new phone.
You have to root to remove preinstalled apps.

Ok thanks for the info....but what is adb ?
Edit: Found it i think http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
Another question (sorry). If i use a custom rom (need to root first and do s-off) and don't want to use it anymore....can i flash back to stock rom ? also if i do that i lose my root and s-off right ? so i need to re-do that.
Also i am from Europe (as you see in my profile) what version from this topic do i need ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
My device is NOT branded and simlock free. So i am guessing i need the WWE ?
PS: If i root with unrevoked, do i get backup tool ?

You don't need s-off to remove htc apps, just root. Only if you want to remove from a running system.
If you revert to stock you lose root, s-off and you get htc apps back.
You can use any gsm rom, only orange uk users need to be wary about the radio they flash i think (correct me if i'm wrong).
You cannot backup until after root, but then any recovery offers nandroid backup, and titanium backup offers apps and settings backup on any rooted rom.

Those backups nandroid/titanium .... i need to pay/download them manually or are they included after rooting with unrevoked3 ? i have readed somewhere unrevoked added a recovery too.
Also after root i don't get future updates from HTC right ??? People said if they use S-Off and get a update from HTC they might change the HBoot and lose S-Off again......i wonder how that is possible if they can't get updates after root.
Sorry for all those questions, this is my first Android/Linux device and i am new with this.

No problems in asking questions this is the reason that XDA exsist
Nandroid backup: download Rom manager from market (free) and install clockworkmod recovery from within the app, reboot into recovery and do a FREE nandroid backup.
*edit you could also skip the Rom manager and just use the unrevoked recovery, it's up to you
Titanium: free version has restrictions, not sure what because I don't use it.
BTW you will basically update from XDA after using a custom Rom, the developers usually update their custom roms after an official update.
hope this helps

Hi all.
I have just received my HTC ONE X on ORANGE UK. I had it unlocked and works well with other networks.
Problem I have is:
1. How can I get rid of the ORANGE UK branding?
2. Revert the software to the ORIGINAL HTC ONE X Software?
I looked thru the Q&A and didn't really find the answer i was looking for. I am a newbie as i have always had the iPhone 4S.
I presume this involves changing the ROM? How?
A Step by step guide would be brilliant.
Thanks Kindly
I believe that you will need to unlock your Bootloader at HTCDev (which will void all warranty) and follow this thread. This will allow you to install any One X ROM you want.

Unlocking the bootloader, rooting, installing a custom recovery and flashing a custom (or official unbranded) ROM will get you where you need to be...
However, if you have never rooted a phone before this one isn't the best to start on. I would recommend waiting until some of the bugs have been ironed out, like charging in fastboot, the posibility of a one click root, or a fully s-offed process.
If you can be patient, (and the bloat isn't too bad - for Orange anyway) I would recommend waiting.
I had a rooted, s-off desire on Orange, have unlocked and s-offed a bunch of various HTC phones belonging to friends, but even I'm delaying for a while to see how development pans out.
I hate sense too.
@shrubz

If you follow the link I posted in the 2nd post that will give you all the steps you need to prepare to flash a custom ROM, including the custom recovery image.
After that pick a ROM, I recommend ARHD, then follow the instructions in the ROM thread to flash the ROM.

Have you saved the recovery image in the fastboot folder on your computer with your fastboot files?
Try

Hi guys, new to XDA-DEVELOPERS, really sorry but just like a real NOOOB! i tried to S-OFF on my htc desire with AlphaRev live cd.
Everything went well until step 3, live cd says "WAITING FOR FLASH TO COMPLETE" for nearly 2 hours.
So out of frustration i pulled the usb lead, oooOOPPPS!
Now it boots up into bootloader only and nothing more, every time i power up into the android bootloader again and again!!!
I have tried a factory reset with the bootloader which works fine but when it powers up again it goes back into the bootloader
I have since tried REVOLUTIONARY.EXE , when i connect the device to the computer the program does not recognize the device so that i can get the serial number for the beta key
I would really like someone to help out here, the phone was excellent when it was working it had the ANDROID 2.3.3 INSTALLED with GINGER VILLAIN.
All this stupidity cos i wanted the S-OFF on the device, ( sorry guys, just furious at myself)
In future i will always remember the old motto "IF ITS NOT BROKEN, DON'T TRY AND FIX IT!)
So please, all possible solutions and comments welcome even if it's slagging me off.

Thanks you, as I have said firstly, i am new to all this, secondly the htc desire device is in loop mode and starts up into bootloader splash screen, the phone doesn't boot up.
Please correct me, i think my selection would be guide 2 "S-ON" can't boot recovery/phone won't boot up- and to follow these instructions, but
you have said that i need to make a GOLDCARD but if the phone doesn't boot up then how would i make a goldcard?
I have downloaded the RUU, and because i am newbie with all this, anyway you can explain the full procedure in detail?
Really sorry to be noob!
Thanks
Put sdcard into another phone or use the 2.3 gb upgrade from HTCDev because u wont need a goldcard for that. U can get the 2.3gb upgrade in bortaks guide also, go down to resources.
To run the ruu, simply plug in ur phone to computer while in bootloader and run the ruu (double click it) make sure u have the drivers installed on ur computer for ur phone. All available in bortaks guide like stankyou said answer is there.

By the way are there any better RUU's that can give me more internal storage, as it is with android 2.3.3 i'v only got 156mb left on my htc Desire Bravo, but are easy to install, or should i just leave alone?
Thank again
Nope. Thats the problem with htc desire, low space. If u were to go s-off (security off) then u would be able to change hboots which will give u more space and u can flash custom roms. Check the Desire all things root guide in my sig. Loads of info there plus if u decide to go s-off then u can use "revolutionary". There a guide on how to use it in that Desire all things root guide.
So the first thing really is basically read guides so u have an idea of what ur doing. S-off & root using revolutionary is very easy and straight forward. Read the guide

Hi Andy, first of all thanks for all the info and guides.
I have done nothing but read up on the whole process of S-OFF>>>ROOTING>>>FLASHRECOVERY etc.
I have taken the big jump and now i have S-OFF with Revolutionary and the this is the HBOOT-6.93.1002
I have downloade the flash recovery img (AMON-RA) and UNREVOKED
Followed the instructions and selected the custom image file (amon-ra), Unrevoked goes through the paces and stops with a message "waiting for root" (safe to start if this doesn't happen) then the phone just restarts as normal.
I checked apps folder there is a superuser icon, but when i boot into bootloader and select recovery, the phone shows black screen with a green circle (arrows in opposite) very briefly then a black screen with a red triangle over the phone.
I have retried the process but no luck, i don't know what i am missing, guidance would be appreciated!
Thanks MAT

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone

he doesn't need to update the hboot, he can easily flash the engineering one and do it a way lot easier.

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.

just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.
I am little new for hox in this, so don't mind and just take some of my questions in general please if looks common :
Would appreciate not to be much techy if possible, just in simple please would be very nice ...
After I get the final(I guess) update 4.2.2 of hox in India soon, I am then going to unlock and root so just want to clarify few things :
1) I want to know if I do boot loader unlock, "just boot loader unlock" then what advantages can I get ? [you can please just reply in I can do this, this n this (will be easy for me to catch things please)]
2) is it needed to be done just to flash recovery like cwm (like using the hasoon 2000's great tool) ?! If I flash recovery I know I can root by pushing su zip file by cwm ( I can catch that) But will I lose ota ?
3) I've heard there's another way like "adb push" the super user apk to /system/app then I can have a root . How to do that?! As I would want to do this if I won't lose the ota and if I lose ota the recovery way . (Sorry if I am mixed up. but your great help will clear me a lot)
You can ignore if you want to the above questions I asked. As all I want is to unlockbootloader and get root and still have everything stock and get the otas if any patch fixes comes in future by htc you never know , I don't want to run after loosing stock and then finding stock files and trying to put them back in to get those updates .
Would be so happy and would highly appreciate the help from such amazing people, Love n Respect Xda~!
if you unlock bootloader you lose all data, and if you root and install custom recovery you lose ota. but you can install a nandroid backup, stock recovery and stock boot.img and get back ota. so everything can be reversed. if you decide to root and install custom roms etc, please make a nandroid backup so you can get back to stock easily. and as you say you can use hasoon2000's toolkit to do all of this.

Thank you for kind reply . You said root and install custom recovery, well if I can root first (just on stock) after bootloader unlock then I don't need any custom recovery or roms. Please tell me how?! I just want root after bootloader unlock without loosing any stock recovery so I don't lose ota . Possible ?!
Other thing can't I after bootloader unlock install supersu file with stock recovery and I guess then all will be fine n I can still keep getting otas as well I guess?! Sorry I never used stock recovery so just asking . I know it comes with power n volume down key .

So what are the steps like
1) which nandroid app to use for backup and when to use at right time, like after unlocking bootloader or when?!
2) And then how to just root without custom recovery? (or if I want to root I need to have a custom recovery too?!)
3) And how to reverse ?
Please tell me

He has already read hasoon's thread if you look in the first post. And to be honest , if you have read hasoon's guide and still asking questions I would advise not to do anything as you are quite probably going to have problems, sorry

Yes, you can get the official updates and can be installed by itself for the just app update (as APK files) even if you rooted.
but OTA update zip file( rom update) cannot be intalled by itself, so if you want to install that kind of file you need relocked & stock recovery.
But there is a way no need relocked & stock recovery is OTA zip can be installed by custom recovery "philz_touch_5.11.2-endeavoru" but the rom must be surely pure stock rom.In that way of update is just upgrading the rom only and your Hboot cannot be upgraded.

Awesome man I guess I got your point too, that as I have no other choice to lose the stock recovery as I will have to flash cwm recovery or any other to push the su for root, so then I just saw on hasoon's toolkit that there is an option to flash "your own recovery", where I then can download the stock recovery from the link you gave me first and put that file with the software and it will install it back for me... right ?! if yes then awesome!!

I don't think that HOX will get 4.3 update from htc so there is no need for stock recovery. There are very little chances thay we get 4.3 jelly bean on HOX just flash custom recovery and enjoy sense 5.

Oh I get it I cannot get major update like 4.2.2 though, if I don't do the philz_touch_5.11.2-endeavoru way but again there's a drawback for hboot.
But I guess I can manage to flash this way >> unlock bootlaoder>> flash cwm>> push su>> enjoy>> if new update comes then flash stock recovery back and update .
Need to learn how will I easily flash the stock recovery back as the hasoon2000 3rd post is confusing me a bit ..
But Wow simply Amazing answers man, great thread... it can help so many for a great start ..... even for future htc devices I guess .

mmm kartik I don't think virgolib will agree to that getting 4.2.2 aswell which I guess is being referred to rom update .
So kartik you didn't even first did the back-up to stock and even without that u got the sense update still, right that's what you are saying ?
But the thing is for virgolib that kartik did got the 4.2.2 update too being in cwm recovery
You flash stock recovery the same way as you will the custom, it will overwrite it.

oh ya got it sorry
1- unlock bootloader and install custom recovery.
2- install the zip file of rom.
3- push superuser file via cwm
4- go to fastboot mode download stock recovery from here-
http://www.androidrevolution.nl/downloader/download.php?file=Flash_recovery_4.18.401.2.rar push it via adb - fastboot flash recovery path name of recovery
5- now you have pure stock rom in your hox rooted too but with stock recovery. Enjoy your hox with sense 5
