Hi there,
I have just got my hands on a indian version of One X 16gb through ebay, which is supposedly 3 months old (BOX SAYS ITS FOR INDIA WITH PRICE IN RUPEES AND MADE IN CHINA).
Software it is running is Android 4.0.4, HTC Sense 4.1, Software No. 2.17.707.3 by [email protected] Team
Now I tried to understand what has been said before and update my phone, It fids a uodate and downloads it but than displays the following message "we have identified that your phone may be running a modified version of system software. please revert your phone to official htc system software to update your phone. If you did not modify your system software contact us via support section htc.com"
I am not too technical and dont necessarily want to root my phone etc. ( I dont even know what it means). All I wanted was to improve the battery performance on the phone with new software. If there is no easy solution I am willing to go the whole length just give me the link to threads to follow (easy ones).
Regards,
Vik

My Desire was bought from O2, so has it's firmware.
I'm moving abroad next month, will I still get an update to 2.2 ?
I won't be using O2.. will that stop me ?
Would I be better flashing it with a generic rom ?
Thanks

It's about choice...
Why you need flashing? if you Desire daily usage for Phone, SMS, Chat and Check Email and little bit Browse the net.. I think wait until official release for Desire much better than Rooted/Flashing your phone
Thanks for the reply.
I'd prefer not to flash or root it if I can help it.
The question really is will a UK O2 Desire automatically upgrade to 2.2 if used in New Zealand, with Vodafone ?
Thanks
Probably not. My understanding is that receiving updates is dependent on your current version. I'm on Meteor in Ireland, for example, but I won't receive any specific Meteor updates, because I have the generic HTC firmware.
So if you're on a kiwi network, with the O2 software, you'll get neither the HTC update nor any update your new network rolls out.
So either debrand now and get the HTC update whenever it's released, or wait until it comes out and flash the 2.2 rom directly.
One other thing you could do is take it to Vodafone in New Zealand and ask them to flash their own software on it. Since you're a new customer, they'll most likely oblige.
But that's if they even stock the Desire, btw. If they don't you'll have to do it yourself.
One thing to keep in mind re:carrier specific firmwares is that it may take an awfully long time for upgrades to trickle down. You could be looking at an additional month or more between HTC releasing it and your carrier releasing it.
And even when they do, they might disable certain features (wi-fi tethering, for example, isn't too popular with mobile operators)
Thanks
that is what I'd thought..
I suppose the only other thing would be if O2 released it for download, then I could manually install it !!
Are there still issues with wifi and the generic rom ?
Yeah, that's another way. Bookmark this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
The only issues were with people who people who debranded their phone and flashed to the generic rom. But for anybody else, there's no issues whatsoever.
Thanks
If I change the ROM is there any risk ? I'm not bothered about root, but would like to have the option of 2.2 when I'm not in the UK.
can you point me to a firmware flashing guide ?
Thanks again.
Well this is the latest (generic) rom update:

Very easy to install. Just download the .exe to your PC, and open it while your phone is plugged in. The installer will walk you through.
I don't know if it's that simple for branded phones though. You might have to debrand first... I honestly couldn't say. You might ask in that thread and list your FW number. Maybe somebody else will know.
You're sure it's a branded phone, yes? There's no .405 in the version number?
My firmware is : 1.20.207.3 CL171460 release-keys
I'll ask in the other forum.
Thanks
Hey guys,
Just been looking around these forums lately and you all seem like the intelligent bunch so i was hoping you might be able to help me out here.
I Recentlly brought a desire HD from an online website (mobicity) and its a great phone/device, but it has come from singapore. its unlocked/unbranded but it feels like its not an australian/WWE stock rom. I am completely new to the world of android with this phone being my entry class but im pretty clued on when it comes to tech stuff (I've flashed other devices before, PSP's, iPhones) and after a bit of research, seems getting a "stock rom" is the way to go but i dont want a carrier branded one (telstra, 3, virgin) as im with a carrier that doesnt sell the HTC DHD, or I dont want a custom rom, I just want it to be a normal unbranded HTC thats as close to where im from.
When I select the languages I only get 3 choices - English[HK] and 2 chinese languages (not sure what they are!)
If it helps here is my software info:
Model: A9191
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband: 12.28g.60.140fU_26.05.05.27_M3
Build: 1.84.832.2 CL333804 Release-keys
Software number: 1.84.832.2
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
Any help/Tips/Advice would be awesome guys!
thanks in advance!
Somewhere around here is an RUU for Oz and / or WWE version which should help you out.
Better still, go forth and "Root" *groan* about in the development forum.
I really really should apologise for that pun but I not going to...
Just a heads up, I've recently heard that the folks in Germany are getting their Gingerbread update, so I suspect the rest of the world is gonna get his pretty shortly. If you don't feel like waiting around then go on to the dev. section and check out the stock rom final build 2.36 that was recently released. You can flash it with out root access.
Good luck mate!
Software number: 1.84.832.2.. The 832 does indeed refer to a HK based ROM. Look for 405 in the software number for a stock WWE ROM. Example is 2.36.405.8 which I am currently running. (Gingerbread)
There's a few WWE ROMs here:

Hi Guys,
thanks for your help so far but when i Try to install another rom (older or newer) i get Customer error 131
with a bit of reseach seems i may have to get a "gold card"
so its more money for a micro SD unless theres a way around this error?
Also just been informed by my phone suppliers that stock roms are covered by warranty so im more relaxed about flashing now
thanks again

IMO, your supplier mean the stock rom for current device is refer to HK stock rom only. If your are from HK rom, then its should be HK rom only. If you flash others wwe stock rom, its mean you avoid your warranty. My meaning is, when you root your phone, you already avoid the warranty. In order to choose others stock rom to flash in your HK phone, you required your phone to be root first..

I got mine imported from the UK (through clove.co.uk)
I'm with virgin mobile and have just kept the stock ROM it came with.
Just thought you should know there's some other people like you on here
hey guys
Well its still not working
Everytime ive tried to load up the WWE rom I get customer ID error 131
just curious, does it have to be a newer verison or can it be an older one too?
After speaking with the guy that sold me the phone he suggested the gold card method which didnt work either...am i stuck with this HK-rom?
[SOVLED]
So I Finally did it!
heres what i did:
Followed the Guide found here
THEN discovered my device was branded so i need to make a goldcard on MMC2 (been using mmc0 Prior)
Then Flashed via recovery mode to 1.32
then upgraded to 1.72!
the only think that worried me is that when i was 1.32 i couldnt do an update via the phone...was that a bug that was fixed later on?
just happy to have stock f/w on now, the phone seems quicker too!
thanks guys, for the help, and hope this will help anyone else with the same issue
if you went to all that trouble to flash your device, why don't you give customs a try?
I personally use CM7 with a Android Phone 7 skin.
If speed is your thing, the CM7 has overclocking options on it to make it more zippy, though its fast still plenty faster then with the stock roms. I've heard Android Revolution is even faster, but its running 2.2
Worse comes to worse, you can always restore back to your current rom.
lol due to warranty limitations i may jsut stick with the unbranded roms for now, or if my carrier (iiNet via optus) release a branded F/W ill go with that playing it safe works fine for me till i work out wha tthis phone can do for now

Good evening.
I'm living in Japan and after years of head aches and troubles with japanese-market-only phones I decided to get a new-no-contract-sim-free phone
I chose the Zenfone 2 due to its price and update availability..
It says it should get an update to Android 6.0 but when I tried to update I noticed its only on Android 5.0
No 5.1 or 5.2...
This phone was release in January if Im not mistaken.. is it possible they didnt update it nor fix any bugs in a year ?!
OR...
Does it the next chapter of me getting screwed cause I'm living in Japan?
I've check about the update and it says on their site FAQ that it is possible to update manually... Push a zip file..
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/HelpDesk_Download/
The latest version is:
Version WW_2.20.40.139
but I noticed there are WW CN TW and *drums rolling* JP versions...
Now, in some of the other versions I saw mentioning of JP thingy being updated... does it means I can Install a WW version on a JP phone ?
example:
25.Fix JP FlipFont issue
29.Remove BookLive from JP SKU
They write that:
3. Only apply to same SKU update, Example: WW->WW, CN->CN, .
so.. do I have to wait for a JP SKU ?!
My current ver. is:
Android 5.0 JP_2.20.40.97_20150917 (update from 3 months ago? yet still android 5.0!?)
Baseband : 1527_5.0.35.1_0815,1527_7.0.20.0_0723
Kernel version: 3.10.20-x86_64........
Build number: LRX21V.JP-ASUS_Z00A-2.20.40.97_20150917
Again.. is this a regional thingy?
Are all other Zenfone 2 still stuck on Android 5.0?
Btw I've got an unrooted 2GB version...
Thanks in advance to all the helpers
6.0 hasn't come out yet. We are all waiting for it.
Hi the whole "latest" android version thing is a plague caused OEMs and/or the dreadful carriers versions, they always (think they have to) add their flavor on top vanilla (stock) android, be it a launcher (the interface), replacing stock android and/or google apps, sometimes with good and fast results (e.g. Motorola) because they add to stock android rather than changing the whole thing (e.g. freaking Samsung).
You're better off flashing a custom ROM, if you follow instructions CAREFULLY it would take an hour if you're a beginner as it's hard -but not impossible- to brick newer phones.

Question though..
Since its the JP SKU .. will I have problems ?
I had lots of problems on my XPERIAs, since they had JP systems/kernel/everything...
I only have experience tinkering with various japanese xperias... this is my first ZEN so... It should be easier to root and such than sony's... right?
It's easier to root and unlock bootloader than sony! As for changing JP to WW version of the firmware there is a guide how to. No risk of brick since you are familiar with these procedures as i read.
Hi @major9686
Do you recieve the monthly security and bug fix updates?
It seems that the japanese market has both WW and JP SKU phones. Hence the anomaly on the support page.
I don't know, flashing WW might break your cellphone service.
So 2.20.40.97 JP is the version your phone should have.
Yes the stock is still on android 5.0. and in time you will get 6.0 as will we all.
Android 6.0 is confirmed. But will take some time. This is true about most of the phones, except few who gets quick updates. Asus is still better than others.

I dont really like my Asus so far ...
My EeePC gave me problems back in the day, the battery died and I cant replace it no one sells it anymore...
It barely lasted 2 years... now it only runs when plugged and even then lags (even after getting an SSD inside)
My Nexus 7 is also a bit laggy even after factory reset, only bought it 6 months ago
and my recently bought Zenfone 2, already been to repair once but problem still persists. Ear Receiver doesnt work, only if I press the screen around the ASUS logo, some sound gets out.
GPS is messed up, gyroscope as well.
SIM Card 1 is giving me trouble, only after several resets, factory reset and whats not it suddenly became readable without becoming unavailable after every few seconds...
and the most annoying thing, after the repair the USB port became loost, the cable isnt held in place as well as it was before the repair.
But you get what you paid for... so far I had a few Xperias and they all had great build quality. I'm soooo sorry I decided to get an asus this time
whats more, even getting an Asus sim-free I get stuck with the Japanese kernel which doesn't allow me to remove the friggin shutter sound from the camera unless I'll root it
Getting this piece was a big mistake. build quality is sooo bad!
Last Asus I'll ever buy...
In PC components already learned my mistake years ago and changed to Gigabyte...
And dont get me started on being stuck on Android 5.0 ... at least with sony we get 1-2 updates...
I got tired of waiting for an update. Bad battery life and Asus apps using most of the memory so I decided to unlock the boot loader yesterday with their software, rooted and installed Bliss Rom based on CM 6.0.1 witch is awesome
Hi,
I found the latest 2.20.40.164 firmware for Japan SKU on their support website.
NB: This is a full ROM.

Hi guys,
So i would love to purchase a Nokia N1 but it seems that the Taiwanese version is ultra rare and I really need google play services.
Anyway I have been looking on the forums and its been a long time since I have flashed anything and I am a bit scared about all the horror stories of bricked N1's and the lack of very clear noob guides on how to convert to Tawienese firware and actual have it working without issue.
Can any one tell me if it is worth purchasing the chinese version and will I actually be able to get it play services working or is it too much of a hassle for a noob and still too unstable when flashed?
I also wondered if the packaging label for the taiwan model differs from the chinese model? Is the Taiwanese model manufactured in Shenzhen or in Taiwan?
I have a picture of the label of the one I was going to purchase but I think it may be chinese version....
Any info and help identifying it would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
ship with Android 5.0 can flash Taiwanese version even if it is Chinese version.
I cannot recommend at buying Nokia N1. Device itself is fantastic but I cannot say the same about software. If you get the Chinese version with Android 5.1.1 (very likely) there is no way to downgrade it to previous 5.0 Android version that can be rooted. Without root there is no Google Play. There are some guides how to downgrade 5.1.1 version to 5.0 but you will only brick your device if trying any of those methods. There is almost zero community support for Nokia N1 and because of this I don't believe we are ever going to see a root for newer Android 5.1.1 version.
If you need Google Play (Android device without Google Play is a crap) please do yourself a favor and buy something else like Samsung Galaxy S2 8.0

Thanks for the info. I ended up finding a real nokia N1 on eBay from taiwan with Googleplay services installed, so all good. Don't need root so think I will just update normally through OTA. Should be OK I think. I agree chinese one looks like too much hassle.
Hy i'm new on the forum so i posted thread about software issues. I will be short and clear. Since i bought this magnificent smartphone from one guy i did not know that IR blaster function is not avialbe on the latest android update i'm talking aboud android 6.0. So i downloaded 4.4.4 t-mobile version android for my M8 and i tried to flash my phone to 4.4.4. stock rom but in stage 0/7 of flashing i just went to the 1 of 7 steps and i get error so i just asking why i cannot install the offical stock kit-kat rom whats the problem. The previous owner of HTC says that the phone is bought in T-mobile store and i can approved that because the packaging of my HTC is writing on the box it was the T-Mobile so i don't know its my phone T-mobile version or normal international version.
Sorry for my rusty english hehe
Anyobody???
I've already answered you here and here, but if someone else wants to jump in with any other advice/answer, please feel free.
