Can someone explain to me how this "car mode" or "car home" app is supposed to work? Say, music for example. It's either mount your SD through USB, or plug in an auxiliary cable. Am I missing something here? It's not like on an iPod that u can plug in your USB and play music, right?

To my knowledge the car screen is simply a front end to allow easy access to apps when the phone is sat in an in car holder?

hahaha I guess it will become useful when i get really old!
Seriously though, I asked cause there's also this "dock" setting in froyo. Something in the works, perhaps?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Is car mode exclusively for Froyo? I'm still on a stock Desire. Is this something I will get with the OTA update or is it something to download from the Marketplace/HTC website?
Comes with froyo, is included in most custom froyo roms and will be in the official sense froyo which is coming any day now.

Funny, after today's update I haven't found it. Not looking hard enough maybe?
Nope, is an app and isn't there
There are several of the sort on the market, which do you guys recommend? Or is this one we're talking about a specific one?
Isn't it designed for HTC's official car holder, due on the 22nd? I guess it only "activates" once you plug your phone into it.

I thought of that, but for it to be activated it has to be present, no? Unless it'll be a "surprise update" from HTC

Perhaps it only does so once you place the phone into the holder.
Is there a menu option in Settings? The leaked ROMs had this. (I'm not running today's release)

I found something more
Add new item on the desktop - Shortcut - Settings
There you find different settings for Car Dock, Dock Settings, Unit admnistration settings
(Might not be called that, translated from danish)
So it seems that the application are there but hidden?
Good catch
It indeed seems that only when HTC's car holder becomes available will we see it. I guess I'll get one from the market. Any recomendations?
Looks like you're right. One of the features of the dock is:
"Connects straight to the NaviPanel interface" which HTC describe as:
"Navipanel offers you a convenient, one-touch interface to Footprints, the Phone dialer, and the GPS navigation software when you are using the in-car holder with your phone. When you put your phone in the holder, NaviPanel automatically opens and lets you use these applications."
Got any link to that dock?
looking for one, havent heard about an official one tbh..

Does anyone know if the captivate will launch automatically into "car mode" when attached to the OEM car dock? (or launch the desk home app when placed in the desk dock?)
I know the motorola droid launches this "mode" based on some sort of magnet in the dock--was curious if the captivate has this feature as well.
My guess is that it'd have to be launched for desktop dock because you download the app seperate and so if it had any kind of sensor for the desktop dock it should already have the apparently installed. I could be wrong but that is what I'm thinking. I'm guessing it'd be the same way for the car dock but again I could be wrong. Hope this helps.

If it does not do this automatically you may still have some options.
I am a big fan of Tasker now that I have been using it for a few weeks. You could use Tasker to launch the cardock app or change profiles when it detects specific criteria. For example it could be triggered by BT connectio/pairing or when you plug it into the dock. You could even set it to launch when gps detects a certain speed for a sustained period. The options are rather vast.
I'm not trying promote Tasker but, I have found it very useful for automated actions and profile scheduling.
Appreciate the reply. Yet another use for Tasker. Too bad it doesn't happen automagically like some other android phones though.
There are two Samsung apps in the market that might do what you are looking for, if Samsung ever decides to actually sell the freaking docks.
Search the market for Captivate.

I'm using CM6 stable and want to pair my mighty keyboard (apple) to my Evo for note taking during my 6 hour lectures in microbiology class. I did some google searches and found that it is supposed to be included in CM6 buy when I try to pair and it doesn't work. Can anyone confirm this?
Is there an app that will trick the pairing process and not require a pin?
I really would like this because my Prof. rambles and my hands are getting tired trying to catch up.
By the way I found this link but assuming I comprehend what I read this only works with Android Dev phones. Maybe someone can figure something out by reading this website.
http://i-miss-erin.blogspot.com/2009/09/connect-bluetooth-keyboard-in-android.html
Why would it work on a dev phone and not a release phone? What makes it different. I'm tempted to try it even though it says dev phones only but I don't want to mess up my phone. Any have brass balls?

I am using a Apple Bluetooth mouse and keyboard no problems On cm6.
My only problem was to disable Bluetooth on my desktop to keep it from auto paring.
Do u see it in the list?
Yes I do but when I click on it it doesn't pair. I've tried 0000, 1111, 1234. They don't work. Are you using CM6 Stable or nightlies?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm also using an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I believe first you type a code on the keyboard, then you type it in CM6. This was the trick to getting mine to pair, at least.
Not sure if you hit enter after typing the code on the keyboard.
/edit: Using CM6 Stable.
That worked! Thanks! Any note taking app you recommend besides Evernote?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, I do use mine for taking notes in class, but they're all for math courses lol. So I use an app called "VerbTeX", which is basically a LaTeX file editor. Pretty great, if that's what you're looking for.
If it were just for text, I'd probably use something like GDocs.
I always used a tape recorder (10 years ago) and sorted it out later. Maybe a voice recorder app or a digital recorder would be better.
well just ordered myself Sony Ericsson LiveView to use with the note (and S3 maybe)
don't know too much about it other then it's cool and well... bought it for cheap
can someone give some tips?
Not really a tip as such but I have found mine losses connection between Note and watch if I dont keep checking it or getting incomong data eg texts etc.

Yeh because of the connection loss I decided not to get this tell us how you get on it still looks like fun
I bought sony smartwatch, It works really good and no connnection loss.
I read some time ago that there is an app that keeps check connection with liveView and keeps it connected...
any chance you can find the name?
the reason i got the lifeview is because it was way cheaper then anything like it so... why not play with it abit

Well gave in an ordered it lol main worry was battery and connectivity, had a quick look some good apps if they do what they say. calc for 1 will save me getting my phone out everything I need to work out how much stuff Im putting away.
The main add on i use is the music player one. It allows you to change the tracks playing on thephone whilst keeping it in your pocket. Also shows you the cover art etc which is nifty. I didnt bother setting up twitter or facebook apps but having seen vids of them they seem to work well.
About the calculator app I am not sure how well that will work as the screen is fairly small so can imagine it very easy for anything too complex ie that you cant work out in your own head.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA
Well this came today and first impressions the pre loaded music app works fine just shows the name of song and artists. Have not tried facebook or twitter might later the one thing I dont like is that when on wrist the watch face and icons are facing wrong way (fingers to arm where on a watch its top of wrist to bottom lol hard to explain).
Also cant get it to see any plugins they are in the liveware manager but when I go to liveview manage plugins there is nothing there
What wrist do you wear this on? I wear on my left hand side and icons are correct way round etc. Check on the application manager you have told it what tiles to display on the watch face.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
shall i buy it?
what about the display?
can you see something, when the sun shines bright outside?
I'll review mine when I get it, just shipped it from the states to isrsel

One thing I must say, it came with the fixed watch back.... But with one problem, it's hard as hell to remove it
So... What apps do I need for it after I update it?
Sent from N7000
got my liveview ..updated software...installed liveviewcharm to stop disconnects
But no plugins are showing as installed on phone plus when I go to add plugin it says all plugins already assigned. what am I doing wrong ?
EDIT

quick search & I found this

If anyone wants to know how to get #LiveView Plugins working with #ICS here is a small howto:
1) Install ADW Launcher
2) Open ADW Launcher, longpress on the homescreen and create a "Custom Shortcut"
3) when selecting the shortcut target select "Activity"
4) Search the Plugin within the list and select the "****Preference" subnode
5) Press OK
6) Click on the new shortcut so that the preferences of the plugin will open
7) check the "Enabled" checkbox of the plugin
8) you are done the plugin should work now... but you need to restart LiveView-App to see them!
works well with all plugins I've tested for now ;-)

Hey All,
As the title (I hope) indicates, I'm looking to get a bluetooth keyboard to hook up to my INC2. I (suppose) foolishly bought a keyboard already (Motorola Xoom) and I thought no prob- updated software, bluetooth is bluetooth, and I should be good to go. Not so. I can pair them, but I cant get they keyboard to actually work as an input device.
Also, I cant seem to pair that keyboard (successfully) with my PS3. I dont think I'm just bad at pairing things, as I'm able to do it with tons of other stuff, so I'm looking for advice. Did I pair it wrong somehow? Do I need to get a different keyboard? Will the INC2 just not work with keyboards?
Thanks so much!
Sleepraider
nothing?Any thoughts? Is the keyboard crap? Is this a obvious thing that I missed? Any keyboards known to work that are relatively inexpensive?
See if you can find an app on the market that supports bluetooth keyboard support, Most often what you need is a substitute keyboard app, kind of like when people hook up PS3 remotes or wii motes to their phones. Here's a link to an app I just quickly searched up as an example. I can't personally vouch for it though.

Alright.. I'm giving it a quick try right now. Had thought I tried that app, but I tried a ton w/o any success., so I'll try again.
FWIW, this is one of the most important features for me at this point, so I'll do any ROM the INC2 can handle if it means making this work.

Tried it.. and pretty much every decent looking app I could find in the app market.
Testing now to see if I can pair my new keyboard to my desktop via bluetooth and if that works. Maybe the keyboard is actually dysfunctional?

I'm back and I wanted to supply more info. I connected the bt keyboard I just bought with my desktop.. it works great on there.
I connected my desktop BT keyboard to my phone-- same prob; it pairs, never connects. Looking much more like a phone/software issue IMO.
Wondering if this is the phone (shouldnt be, right?) or if this is my ROM. If its the ROM, any ROM that might work? Any solution....at all?

The only way you're going to know if it has any possibility with working is if you can pair it on the stock official (or close to official, ie...andybones stock) software. If it doesn't work there, it's highly unlikely that it will work on any rom. If it does, then you'll probably have to just try each rom one at a time. I don't think that's a highly sought after feature for other people though, so it's unlikely much development has been put into it.

Sadly, I think this is true and I just need to find a different solution. I'm a grad student and where I work blocks my gmail, which was the main reason I wanted the keyboard, so I could type well formed responses while at work when not busy, and not have to wait to do all my "student work" when I get home from work. I guess I'll likely end up finding another solution. Perhaps I can use my netbook with my phone and get a wifi hotspot going to be able to answer emails? I guess I need to toy a bit more.

I've tried all of them.. there's nothing wrong with them.. I just dont like them. I'm an excellent typist with a typical keyboard, but I admit I just suck with touchscreen keyboards...
No worries, I just played around a bit and was able to easily set up my netbook to use for gmail while I use my phone as a hotspot. If anyone has a good app recommendation that will allow me to track how much data that actually uses, I'd love that. Seems like a much easier request than the BT keyboard request.

Now I'm thinking about it.. what if I installed Ubuntu.. which would likely have the drivers for bluetooth. I'm a very experienced linux user and have 5+ years of ubuntu experience. Perhaps using ubuntu on my phone is the workaround I've been looking for! Do we know if you can use USB keyboards (I'd expect this to be true) when you install ubuntu alongside?
