Flash the stock JB lock screen? (Apps are buggy) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a Nexus 7 and I'm coming from a Nexus S 4G. I love my SIII but I hate the lock screen. I would like to have the stock JellyBean lock screen on my phone, but the only thing I've been able to find are people suggesting apps in the Play Store that (poorly) attempt to do this. They're buggy and they drive me nuts.
I was under the impression that the stock lock screen is just a flashable zip away... Why can't I find it? Anybody able to help?

If you flash a custom ROM you'll be able to use it with added bonuses depending on the ROM

Yeah, that's the other thing that I forgot to mention. I honestly appreciate the response, but I'm not interested in a custom ROM either. Once I track down all of the pieces, I may just be rolling my own. Until then, I want to stay as close to the stability of stock as possible.

Why not jump ship to cm10?

I can understand that. I hope thinks work out with your personal ROM. One day I'll get to mine as well.

Looking for the most stock rom available

I'm looking for the most basic stock 2.2 rom available. I mean really stock Android, no touchWiz or customizations. Removal of Sprint bloatware would be great of course. This is for a Samsung Epic currently running froyo right out of the box. This is for a totally blind user running a screen reader from the Google Eyes Free Project. All of the TouchWiz stuff and customizations make the screen reader perform poorly and it's especially bad with froyo 2.2 due to the TouchWiz stuff.
I'd be grateful if anyone can point me to a rom that would fit the bill. Hopefully, such a thing exists. Thanks for any responses.
Cyanogenmod 7 is the closest to AOSP you can get, but it does have some features not working (yet).
I know its not exactly what you are asking for but I have an idea that is pretty simple to do but you don't have t flash another rom.
I suggest launcher pro from the app market. To all you adw fans out there, I've tried that too but accidentally messed up things in the dock and it wasn't fun fixing them. Anyways, launcher pro could be used as your home replacement. I don't know your level of knowledge so I will explain it. Once it finishes downloading, hit the home key on the bottom four and select as default application then select launcher pro. Now hit menu then settings then general and there's a thing to hide apps you don't want showing in the drawer. Next go into appearance and select dock style for froyo or froyo wide. That is pretty much it. There are a few settings that can be tweaked to turn off the special effects and maximise the drawer's speed in regards to scrolling.
That is my suggestion because it is stable and not necessary to start flashing roms and converting the phone's default file system to ext4, which from my experience was opening a can of worms.
I havent used it, but I believe you're looking for this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922773
It's not stock, it just is themed to look like it.
Texted while driving
Why not just root the phone and use root explorer and take out the touch wiz launcher in the stock rom from the system/app directory.
Here is a post here that shows you all the prgrams that you can safely remove:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773142&highlight=safe+apps+remove
Then if you want stock, you can't be more stock than this. Maybe this can help you get to what you want.
I appreciate the responses. Someone suggested simply replacing TW Launcher but that isn't really the issue. Apparently TouchWiz changes more than just the launcher. Some of the apps that don't seem to be really stock Android are messaging, contacts and calendar. TouchWiz also seems to do some other stuff under the hood that gets in the way. Perhaps rooting as someone else suggested and removing the problem apps and replacing them with the stock Android ones might do the trick. Surely there has to be a bare bones rom out there but maybe not for the epic.
I have heard great things about Cyanigen but unfortunately it isn't ready yet.
Syndicaterom Frozen is very barebones and quick. It is the cleanest stable rom.

Saying that you were looking for a stock rom is throwing everyone off (or at least me). Stock means you want it like it came factory from Sprint, with all the bloat and garbage attached.

Sorry, didn't mean to throw anyone off. By stock what I mean is Android stock, not Samsung stock. Plain vanilla like you might find on a Nexus 1. No bloatware, no customized UI like TouchWiz. Hope that clarifies it. Thanks.

063_XOBX,
Thanks for the correct term. I see now what I'm looking for is Android Open Source Project (ASOP). It looks like CyanigenMod is the only way to go. I wish it was finished. The plan is to work on it this saturday so we may wind up trying Syndicate Mod Frozen to see how that goes and eventually flash CyanigenMod. I'm really anxious for Cyanigen to be completed. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Wallpaper Scrolling with Stock Launcher?

I'd like to be able to scroll wallpapers when switching from screen to screen but, as most of you have noticed, this isn't available on the TouchWiz launcher (the launcher used on our SGS3s).
Has anyone found a way of getting around this like we used to be able to do in previous Android versions? I really like being able to see the full picture and scroll it rather than seeing it every screen from screen to screen.
If your rooted flash FreeGs3 rom. It give you the option choosing the wall paper scrolling.
Apple just give up the IPHONE sucks deal with it.

Does it change the launcher to that of a third-party or is it still TouchWiz? I'd kind of like to keep TouchWiz if possible. I have been looking for some new ROMs, so thank you for the heads up on that one.

Possible New Note II User, couple of questions?

Hi Guys,
Been an HTC guy, all my Android life. Thinking of picking up my first Sammy with the Sprint's version of Note 2. Just had a couple of questions about software and ROMs:
1. Are you guys expecting a Port or Updates from the new S4, coming to the Note 2? If so, when? Or if they've been ported already, can someone point me to the ROM or mods for those?
2. Been familiar with Sense and AOKP/CM10.1 for some time now. Never used TouchWiz. What are most of you driving with here? TouchWiz light and snappy enough with balance of pretty to be used as your Daily Driver, or are you guys AOKP kinda guys here as well? Either way, can you make some ROM recommendations for a new guy? I'd like to experience the Sammy experience, before moving on to AOKP, if possible?
Any other tips you can give me before I switch? I will be switching from an EVO LTE with CarbonROM running on it. Thank you for your time.
It's pretty much a 50/50 when it comes between TouchWiz or AOSP. There is already an s4 system dump.
For Rom recommendations I would suggest if you want TouchWiz stay on stock that's my opinion. And if you want AOSP is suggest CyanogenMod.
PAC rom is good too but for me I love simplicity. So that's why I'm currently on stock right now or CyanogenMod

I was an HTC guy before coming to Sammy. I can say I wasn't all that thrilled with Touchwiz, compared to Sense.
I ended up ditching Touchwiz for Nova Launcher and a couple extra widget paks (HD widgets for clock and Android Pro Widgets for Timeline aka Friendstream and Contact favorites).
I am very happy with this combination.

I was the same at first, but in the long run, I actually Prefer TW to Sense. By miles. Stock TW is (usually, with perhaps a small bit of configuring) faster, and makes more intuitive sense (haha).
AOSP is of course loverly, but TW has a few features w/o totally obscuring Android that I think are ok, even worth it.
Thank you everyone for the response guys!
Just was wondering that I should try out TW for a bit, since I have never used it daily before. The gimmicky features from Sammy on the S4 though... like the Camera app and gestures and eyes thing for scrolling... do you guys think those will be/can be ported to the N2?
Thanks again for everyone's input... getting excited! Just not sure if the N2 will be too much of a phone for me to hold LOL!

I too switched from HTC for 3 years.. And I can say I haven't been happier!!! Tw does take some getting used to after sense, but none the less its every bit as good as sense IMO... If I want a tweaked stock tw ROM, I suggest checking out the lab rats ROM.. Its pretty cartoonish stock, but the updater is chocked full of themes and different apps. Its been an amazing ROM. I used to be a flashaholic til the rats came my way. Not to mention they gotta be the friendliest, goofiest, most entertaining group of devs I've seen yet and as for requests, if its possible its usually pretty quick turnaround and they enjoy all they do probably even more than we do!!! Give it a shot and I can almost bet you will keep coming back to the lab!! Of course this is just my opinion, but there are many more who share it!! As well as, of course, some that don't..

Everyone,
Thank you for your wonderful responses. I just brought home the N2 and it's a MONSTER !!! LOL!
I do want to stay TW for a bit though... so can you guys recommend the most UP TO DATE, and MOST CUSTOMIZEABLE TW ROM with hopefully the LEAST about of bugs and MOST amount of speed? (LOL! I know, talk about Eutopian demands, right !?)
An example of that ^ from the EVO LTE world is Team Venom's ROM...
I will Root though, because I need apps like Titanium Backup to fully set me up on the new device...
Thank you again for all your help! Looking forward to loving the Sammy world !
And oh, for the folks saying that GS4 camera and other features are coming to N2... do you think there will be some features that will NOT work on the N2 for Hardware or Kernel (firmware) issues? Thanks again!

Thanks again for the responses guys. Tried my first few ROMs last night... JellyBomb... LabRats... Nice ROMs, but they are too "modded" and touched for my taste...
What ROM can you recommend that's kinda Stock, debloated, keeps the original spirit of Stock at it's heart, with performance enhancements?
Is Synergy a good one?
Also... what's the later build? M7 or something after that? I am forgetting the name right now ...

Hey sparytrainor,
Thank you for your response. Per your recommendation, I tried the Lab Rats ROM, but found a NUMBER of issues with them:
1. I didn't like the annoying PnB Bootanimation, and tried changing it via their built Customization app, but it just booted into Recovery and did nothing ...
2. The kept prompting an update, annoying
3. Flashlight toggle didn't work
Just seemed way too customized to me, without a whole lot of value for those changes.
I am now trying Stock MC2, Rooted and DeOdexed, but I can't seem to boot in. TWRP says, it needs to fix Root permissions at the end of the flash and in both cases (Fix or Not), the phone reboots and sits at the Samsung GN II screen...? Am I missing some firmware requirements here?
When I get that ROM going, I hope to debloat it with TB, and find ways to tweak it a bit, like find a Battery mod or something maybe...?
Thanks again for everyone reading my thread!

OK, in the updater, go into settings and select reboot type and select the recovery u use. This will fix the reboot and install not working.
Also there are fixes in the updater for all the other issue u mentioned with the ROM other than the flashligt , which I use one from the play store anyway..
Check out the updater website for previews of the mods and themes.
http://updater.team-nocturnal.com/labrats/
And as for the other issue, mine says it needs to fix root sometimes as well, but I swipe to fix and everything goes fine. If you didn't update to mc2, u may need to. Here's a link for that as well..

Thank you again, friend, that seems to have worked !
Couple of follow up questions:
1. In the LabRats ROM, if your Swipe to Capture function working?
2. Is there a "safe list" available for the apps I can uninstall to de-bloat?
3. If you run into a faster, less bulky ROM, please share with me , thanks!
Actually that goes for everyone else, as well. Please share your thoughts and inputs if you happen to have some cool ROM recommendations for TW ROMs that are the lightest and the fastest an least buggy !
Thanks guys!
You'd have to search around for a list of what can and can't be removed.. Or u can do like I did and make a backup so if u remove something that breaks the ROM, u can restore ur backup in twrp and be right back where u started..
Swipe to capture has to be turned on in settings. By default it is off.. I used it to take this screenshot for u..
As for a debloated ROM, you might do well with nowiz aosp in development section..can't get much more debloated than that..

Couple of questions bro:
1. What's the eye icon in your screen shot in the notification bar? I never get that...
2. What theme are you using? Link to that theme and other cool ones like it? (I love Red themes )
3. As for the swipe to screen, I've had the right settings enabled, but for the life of me, I cannot get that feature to work ... Even tried it on a friend's stock GS3, nothing. Saw videos on YouTube as well, mimicking the same thing, still no go ... wonder what's up?
As always, much appreciate your kindness and help !
We can help a lot more if you post in our lab rats thread.
I removed about as much as I could without complaints. I personally would remove more, but I wanted to keep the users happy. I would remove s voice, email, calender, Google search, Google now, voice recorder, and voice search. Themes are in the updater and screen shots are on our Web site. All PATB can be removed via the updater.
The eye is smart stay that you must turn on. Flashlight works perfectly fine for everyone else as well as swipe to capture.
Thank you sparytrainor!

No beer necessary bruh. If your rooted, just flash a custom rom...DU, Nitrogen, Aquarios, Validus, Carbon, all have LPBTK. If your stock, then I believe there's an app or 2 that will do that as well. :good:
I don't see the need to flash a custom rom anymore, stock is awesome. I don't have bull**** overlays like sense hindering my processes. I root, flash a custom kernel add adway and I call it good.
I looked and none of them specificed back to kill. I will look again.

I've run both DU and Aquarios. Your correct in that they don't specify the LPBTK. However, if you see, the smart bar with fling by DU mentioned, that gives you the ability to do just that
I'm running AquariOS right now and other than the lack of edge squeeze, there is zero reason Not to run a custom rom. It is very tight and running as good or better because I need less goofing around to make it exactly like I want. And yes the LPTK works very well. I can't imagine ever going back to stock unless I need to clean up for another ROM.

Custom ROMs or Stock?

Hi, I didn't know if this should be in Questions or Discussions, so apologies ahead of time.
I just got a Pixel 2 XL and recently unlocked the bootloader. I'm thinking about experimenting with some custom ROMs and tweaking some things, however I'm really digging the stock Pie experience. Is there really any super good reasons for installing any of the misc. ROMs out there? Or should I just stick to stock? Just looking for some opinions. Thanks!

Personally speaking, I've tried most of the custom roms, and they're all great in their own way, with fantastic Dev & community support in all of them. Having said that, I like the simplicity, and ease of updating every month with the factory images when they come out. Just a few clicks here and there, and I'm running the latest software and security updates, with my magisk modules, root apps, and themes up and running in about 30 minutes. But again, that's just me

Personally, I went on a week kick of using custom ROMs. I love them. They generally perform great and have some useful features, for me, such as:
One-handed mode
Swipe left on nav bar to go back
Status bar customization
Quick and easy themes for dark mode
etc
However, there are just a few trade-offs, which could make it or break it for you.
No squeeze for Assistant. I use this not for assistant but with the Edge Sense Magisk module that lets you customize your squeezes to do literally anything lol.
LED Notification (I have not been able to get this working on any ROM but someone correct me if its just a "me issue".
No ambient display "Now Playing" text. Keep in mind it'll still pop up as a notification and there was one ROM I tried (Nitrogen possibly?) that allowed me to control music on Spotify via the ambient display and i LOVED that!
Those 3 reasons keep me on stock for now. I may switch back into the ROM scene if I could at least get the LED notification working lol. The active edge functionality is also something I use constantly but it's not the end of the world if it's gone.
Anyway, this is what Ive noticed! Hope others can chime in!
Edit: I use light manager on stock. I'm unsure if it works on custom ROMs. I should try it!

Personality, I went on a week kick of using custom ROMs. I love them. They generally perform great and have some useful features, for me, such as:
One-handed mode
Swipe left on nav bar to go back
Status bar customization
Quick and easy themes for dark mode
etc
However, there are just a few trade-offs, which could make it or break it for you.

Have you tried using Light Manger for your led notifications? Used to work great on 8.1 with custom roms. Although 9.0 may be different.

I use Light Flow for my notification light needs and haven't had any issues.

I use Light Manager on stock! I love it. You @localceleb use it on custom ROMs and it works? I'll admit that I have not tried it on custom ROMs but on stock it works swimmingly well! Haha
The beauty of these phones is you can always go to back to stock by just flashing the ota file in twrp.
So far my favourites are DU13 and Pixel dust.
I enjoyed Havoc AOSP. For now for me nothing beats stock with edge control. I use long squeeze for flashlight which is awesome for overnight piss breaks.
I never use squeeze nor care for the "Now Playing" on the lock screen (actually disabled both on stock).
I have been running stock for about a year with custom kernel, then found Havoc-OS and flashed that about 2 weeks ago. Don't have any complaints and absolutely love the customisation. Probably won't be going back to stock for awhile.
I prefer custom ROMs for minor tweaks such as status bar icon settings, lockscreen stuff and Substratum!
I've bought many themes so I'd rather have a device that has commits to make it work to its max potential (i.e. not having to reboot to enable overlays).
Updating process isn't difficult for custom ROMs either. Developers are usually pretty quick with updates once the Google images release every month. Just need to flash the new ROM zip, TWRP, kernel and root and you're golden!
