[Q] How do you get miss matched MD5s - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Recently have been having the worst luck.
I haven't ever been able to get CM to work on my SG3.
I've tried downloading stables and nightly. They always seem to be bad no matter how many times I down load them.
Recently everything went bad **** crazy where CWM thought my back up folders were empty.
After I rerooted the phone with odin, I tried to do a restore.
At which point CWM told me all of my original backup were had mismatched MD5s.
So does anyone know what happened here? How I can prevent it from happening again?

I have been having issues with CWM telling me my backup folders are empty.. like i never did a Nandroid backup.. Very strange. So i always keep a few ROMS that work well stored on my SD card.
Make sure your CWM is up to date. Download ROM manager, and flash over the most recent CWM from there. Also from ROM manager you can download and flash over some of the CM's to your phone and ROM manager will install for you.

The install would even fail when I was installing CM 10 stable from Rom Manager.
I'm at a loss of what else to do.

Rename your back ups and remove any spaces in the name. The back ups can be named anything you want, just make sure there aren't any other spaces. I had the md5 checksum error and this was the fix, I removed the spaces and voila it worked

[Q] Problems With Nandroid

Hey guys, ive read every solution to Error: run ' nandroid-mobile.sh restore ' via adb! hero, eris etc whatever phone that has this problem and no solutions work. ive run the restore through adb and restores just fine. but that is a pain in the ass. i wanna restore via recovery. sometimes ill be running a rom and need to switch to run gps or 4g etc. ive partitioned the sd card. ive made a new restore of current rom and flashed a different rom and restored and works just fine. but what about all of my other nandroid back ups i put them back on and get that error. even my original before i started rom flashing. should i unroot and flash it to stock etc and start fresh? sorry if its just ramblings and not really questions but dont now what to ask. i just want my backups to work. ps have over 7 gb free and battery is full and plugged in when tring to restore. ive flashed restores with alot less

I usually got that issue when one of two things happened. The nandroid backup I did was corrupted, or never backed up right. Or two, when I changes the name, and added spaces or certain symbols it borked it.
If you haven't changed it, it may just not have nandroid backedup correctly. If you are able to restore via ADB then do so and renandroid.
Did you use illegal characters in your file name? Did you try to restore a clockwork backup with amon ra or vice versa?
ive only used amon ra from the very beginning. i will try clock just cuz i can. and nope all the backups ive tried are original names. i have renamed some in the past and they have restored fine before. but ones im trying are original. i cant even flash the first nandroid i made and ive gone to that one bunch times?! idk cuz this randomly started happening.

Did you make any changes to system files? The files may be corrupted.

what version of Amon-Ra are you using? If your not using 2.3 go flash it immediately and try again.

[Q]WTF...I could use some advice?

OK, So I have been running Beast MOD just fine using either the bullet or synergy kernel.. and everything has been great..
Then yesterday i flashed over to the latest faux kernel to give it a whirl and for the entire day everything was great..
Then today I WAKE UP TO A MILLION FORCECLOSE WINDOWS AND A FROZEN SCREEN. I was pissed. Rebooted and it went to the same place.. forceclose after force close. So i did a wipe and re-flashed, restored my apps from titanium and boom same problem after a reboot...
So i wipe and install again, this time restored from my nandroid data and it gave me an error that it can't read my data files??
Even if i do a clean install without restoring anything, after a reboot everything seems to be corrupted...
any help would be great.
EDIT: Well i was able to get into download mode but after Odin failed twice on the last step the phone wont even turn on... Sucks too because i am going out of town on the 26th and needed my phone..
I have not installed any new apps or scripts or anything. the only change i made was to flash the faux kernel and thats it.
Are your apps and nandroid from sd card or internal storage?
Titanium restore was from the internal and the nandroid was from the external.
This happened to me once. Your nandroid backup files have become corrupted (million things can cause that.) You'll most likely have to re-install everything from scratch.
One thing you can try is to fix permissions in cwm under advanced. (This will sometimes help with the fc's.)
Good luck.

HELP gs3 not creating any usable backups

Hi guys
I'm having g some weird issues I have a gs3 from bell. I rooted it and been flashing all kinds of Roms and never having any issues going back to restoring stable Roms until I decided to try twrp recovery but I noticed that I couldn't restore anything backed up by cwm so I flashed cwm though Rom manager and since then whenever I try to backup a Rom it finishes then when I try to restore them they say md5 mismatch. So after a lot of research I managed to notice that cwm isn't making any nandroid md5 files.
So my question is have I flashed a bad version of cwm through Rom manager or may I have just screwed my phones files somehow I was thinking of uprooting my phone and rerooting it but I don't know if that will fix this. Please help
*deleted*
Good luck
Just so u know i've read through that 3 times already I don't have that issue ... I dOnt have a nandroid md5 like showing up in any of my backups so thanks for nothing if you would have read my post you would have understood That already

Hi, I am still having the same problem as you, and I bought Cwm touch from rom manager and i created a backup and when i restore it it says md5 mistmatch.. So did you get a different older version of cwm? How did you end up using the backup that you couldn't open? Thanks for your help

All back ups gone, wish this had a SD card

OK, so I'm used to phones with external SD cards where backing up was very easy. With the GN its a pain in the ass. After flashing a rom and factory resetting it, CWM can not find my back ups. I can see them with root explorer on the "sdcard" but CWM doesn't. I tried dragging them to /data/media/, but cwm doesn't see them.
I saved the back up to my pc before resetting as well. Where can I put it so CWM sees it?
I have the same problem with Titanium Back up. I backed up all apps and data, but after the wipe they were gone. I saved the back up on my PC but now I don't see a titanium backup folder to drag them too.
I realize this question has been asked before but all my research points me to dead ends.
Any help would be appreciated.
edit: was able to to drag an old backup to CWM, tried to restore and it failed. Phone is now stuck at Google logo :/. Factory resetting it again did not help.

It doesn't matter, I flashed back to stock and rerooted. How can I avoid this in the future. It seems that if I wipe data I lose my back ups. How can I save my back ups in the future?

If you just put your backup in data/media/ then CWM might not see it. Mine are in data/media/clockworkmod/backup/
This is why I use TWRP now.
I've had a bad CWM backup/restore operation fail. I think the dev of CWM is losing the ball and TWRP is starting to become the better recovery solution now.

I've never once had any errors or failed operations or issues of any kind since using CWM Recovery. Even with my old phone (which was not technically CWM, but based on it). Its hard for me to blame CWM and say that those issues are NOT user error.
If you go from a 4.1.X ROM to a 4.2.X ROM then you will have this problem because it changes the file structure that android uses. Same would occur on TWR. You just need to move the files to the correct location after the fact.

Problem is that I tried moving the backup from the old location to the new. When I tried to restore, it failed and never was able to boot past the google logo. I had to unroot and flash back to stock. A great feature that I wish CWM had would be to direct it to where we keep the backup and just restore from there. Since the change from 4.1 to 4.2 I have read many people having similar issues.
Do you have cwm making a md5 for your backup? If not hat is the only time I've had trouble restoring. I've switched from 4.2 to 4.1 and vice versa multiple times without problems.
Also are you using cwm touch or non touch?

Also, like others have said, make sure you are using the latest CWM. You can easily get it by downloading ROM manager and selecting "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It will also tell you what version you have and what version is the latest.
Thanks for the help. I'm also having problems with titanium back up. I copied the backup folder before the wipe, I dragged the files back to the titanium back up folder but TB doesn't recognize the back ups.

In Titanium Backup, select menu then preferences. Scroll down and select backup folder location. Tap the "detect" button then whole device. It should find it.
Also I'd grab a cheap otg adapter... And a 32gig min flash drive to backup to. I have mine run overnight (otg w/charging port) it's basically like having external just deciding when you need it

an up to date version of CWM or TWRP will 'move' (actually rename with the new path) your file system for you so you don't have to do it manually - that's why peeps keep on telling you to update your recovery...

I have the same exact problem. When I try to move the backup to the main sdcard directory (a 3 gig file) it fails halfway through. No matter if I use adb push or windows/mtp to copy/paste the file.
Any ideas? Please help, I just want to restore my old rom with all my data. I dont care about 4.2 if I dont have my data.
EDIT:
I FIXED IT! This is how I did it. I had backed up my SD card (including clockwork backups) to my computer using adb pull. So I used clockworkmod recovery to format the SD card and /data/media. Then I started up the phone. I used windows to copy the backups to the phone. Now when I went to clockwork and tried to use the restore backup, it worked correctly. I'm now back to my old phone
I have a solution

Reviving this thread
I am reviving this thread because I would like to know if there is any way to preserve CWM backups and Titanium Backup files when wiping data for a new ROM install.
Is it possible to create a symlink using terminal and link to a static directory which could be protected from wiping data? This is granted the shell permits symlinks.
Thoughts?

[Q] Help! Rooted 4.3, Backed up, and now cant restore backup

Hello, I recently rooted my wifes Note 2 that was on the latest OTA 4.3. Was not easy BTW. I did a back up in recovery of boot, system, and data. I figured I was good to go and start trying out other roms.
The first one I flashed was Macks Allstar 5.0 rom. Everything was great. Then my wife informed me that she did not have all of her contacts backed up to google and some were only saved to her phone. So then I figure I could just restore the original backup and extract the contacts and be able to install them to any rom.
Thats when everything went wrong. Everytime I tried restoring the back up,it would crash and recovery would do like a reboot. After many attempts I figured id try another version of recovery. After flashing many earlier versions of twrp and trying to restore, I finally was able to complete a restore from version 2.6. I was ecstatic. But then my heart sank again when boot always hangs on samsung logo. And that is where I'm stuck. I am able to flash other roms no problem but cant restore my original backup.
Needless to say my wife is ready to kill me.
Please if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. I have searched throughout this forum and internet for hours and can not seem to find any help with this issue.
I am thankful to have been able to get this far with the help from the XDA community posts I never needed direct help even with prior phone rootings but this one has got me stumped. Thanks in advance
You need to flash Phil's recovery version 6.0.7.9. If you cant restore your backup with Phil's then I'm thinking you might be sol. Make sure you know where you saved the backup to. It's either on the phone's internal sd or external sd card. Choose the correct location in Phil's recovery and if it isn't corrupt it should work. You may also want to copy your backup onto your pc just in case because that's your only backup and doing a full wipe or odin restore could permanently delete it. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I am at work right now and left the phone with my wife with a working rom. I will try phils recovery when I get home. As far as backups, I have two copies. One on my SD card and the other on PC but if they're both fried I guess that negates my efforts in redundancy. It's hard to believe the backup got corrupt so quickly. I have another backup of the 2nd rom I flashed and that one wont install as well.
Is there something I am doing wrong? If the backup file is corrupt, is there a way to extract contacts seperately out of backup?

Life of a married man. Haha!
Well, as my backup file was done with TWRP, I tried method B with TWRP recovery and it wont work so now I'm in the process of trying method A. Will update once I tried it.
I think my problem has to do with TWRP not playing friendly with 4.3 ROMS. If that is the case method A looks like it will work.:fingers-crossed:

That's exactly right. Bootloader isn't playing well with TWRP recovery. Phil"s 6.0.7.9 seems to be compatible in most ROM vs bootloader situations. Don't use latest version of Phil's recovery as it doesn't work as well and most people recommend this as well.
If Phil's recovery won't flash your restore then Odin all the way back to stock unrooted LK8 ROM then root it with the Toolkit and flash TWRP from the toolkit at the same time. Then see if you can restore at that point.
Looks like this project has come to an end. My wife likes her new rom and doesn't want to let me work on her phone anymore. She was able to get most of her contacts back I will make sure she backs her contacts to google and I will try to convince her to install Titanium backup to backup all her app data.
Unfortunately all I have is a work issued iphone that I have no interest in jailbreaking. I really don't see the point.
I am still confident that I could have eventually restored her backup successfully with the help here.
Thank you tx_dbx_tx and coletrain for your help.
