Because AdFree is not working on Desire:
I've made hosts file which is compilation of two lists and some manual additions (for correct blocking of admob). So I decided to share with my list. Use it if You want to. Please tell me if this forum is wrong for that list.
Sorry for the n00b question but how do you install this?
Nice one mate. You've just reminded me I needed to redo my hosts file after installing Modaco Froyo, and I might as well use yours as it'll be more up to date than mine.

ditto this, instructions for us noobies?
unzip the host file
than enter recovery
adb-windows shell mount /system
adb-windows shell mv /system/etc/hosts /sdcard/backuphost
adb push c:\hosts /system/etc
that should wrok if you unziped hosts.zip to c:\ and if something goes wrong you have your original hosts file backed up in /sdcard/backuphost
hope this helps
p.s. i didn't try this
did everything, and adfree is still not working in froyo...
Thanks anyway!
Edit: Now, Adfree FCs!
Edit 2: I did it again and it worked!
Could someone please create a zip file, that can be falshed through clockworkmod recovery? This would be fantastic.

Thanks dnlgee I put it in my repo on ROM Manager
This is great, thanks for sharing - it seems to work great. I might go back to a stock hosts though - I like to block ads when browsing, but I feel bad about doing it for ad-supported applications. That's just me though

Yes, trying to do thinks more easy for all people
Thank you. I have been looking for this for a long time
Great work, it worked a charm until I changed to a new rom, went to use it again and it was gone from the downloads in Rom Manager.
Big thanks.
Panic over, It was saved as a download on my SD card, Rom Manager flashed it again from the saved location no problem.
Love it.

Your stuff is gone from Rom Manager it seems mate.
Would I be right in assuming I can put this on my card renamed as update.zip (if I need to?)
Use rom manager to boot into recovery and flash it manually?

You don't need to rename the zip file if you're using ROM Manager, but yes you should be able to install this through the manager.
If you can't download it through the ROM Manager report, my link is always online and will be updated when possible.

Just a confused question;
If we have a rooted device, what's the reason for having to use the recovery menu? Can you not simply overwrite the file?
Thanks
Yea you can, provided you reboot into recovery and mount the system, then pull or push the device back into the system.
Either way you need to boot into recovery as there's no root method that fully allows read/write access for the Desire at the moment.

It should work like this. Unfortunatelly you can't mount system partition as read/write. That is because system is blocking this in some way.

Another quick one:
I used the zip file which people are using in the rom manager. I rebooted into clockwork and selected apply update from zip and selected the file. Appears I broke the system though lol .
Is this not the right way of doing it?
Also how do you type commands in the recovery? :S

Link dead ??!! "File does not exist. Make sure you specified correct file name."
hi guys i extracted the rom from the 2,3 update. and put it thru dsixdas kitchen, added root permissions but when i load rom super user is not there and theres no root.
any ideas what im doing wrong?
Was it option F (Chains DD)? Is superuser.apk in /system/app?
yeah it was option f mate. ill have to check where its kept later, spose i can move it before i build the rom anyway?
It needs to be in system/app which is where dsixda should put it. Check your rom.zip to ensure its there before flashing.
ok mate will do cheers
dont you need su also somewhere?
or isnt there pre-rooted rom on the dev section - i think theres one or two of them which are stock + root
yeah im using teppics but i got it in my head that i want to root my own stock one. i think its just to see if i can!!
my thinking was that if the kitchen inserted root permissions i thought that was it done.

System/bin/su
dsixda adds both of these.
one thing i do find strange that he htc mail widget is disapeard as well when i install the rom
Are you doing a wipe before flashing your ROM?
yeah usually a full wipe, im gunna try it again later must be something im doing cus im sure it never used to
I need help! Can someone of you who have Costum ROM, send me a "wifi" folder from the software that he has?
I'm not sure what you mean by "WiFi Folder". But you can try re-flashing your radio. You will need Clockworkmod Recovery 2 to flash it.
Here's mine in CM7 (if you need one for a Sense based ROM, I can't really help you there)
I found it in /system/etc
Ohh, thats what he meant lol. For some reason my wpa_supplicant.conf is found in a different folder :O

Your link doesn't work. I assume you were using this kernel right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204669
That kernel is just for cm9. There are different kernels for each version.

You still didn't tell what version of cm you were using. As far as I know a wrong kernel flash can brick the phone. Though that stuff is beyond my knowledge so you should wait untill someone more qualified could answer you. I'm not sure if a simple flash rom would solve the problem.

i was not using cm at all ... but i downloaded the CM9 rc9 .. and my phone start working again ... thnx for ur help
ah, so that was the problem. Glad everything worked out : D
Yes, that should fix. Bootloop occurs when our system crash. So, it cant be loaded. It is also called a softbrick. But it is not really dangerous, as we can simply flash back our rom back, as long it is save on your sdcard. Also you can restore nandroid backup. Nandroid backup is a backup for our system if our system crash. It can crash, if the rom we download did not aborted or something, our system should not be crash. That's why after every download, we need to verify the md5sum.

So I've seen the mods for the Vzw M8 and the intl M7, but cannot find a clear answer as to whether these will work on a vzw M7.. Im on 4.4.2 Sense6 s-off bootloader unlocked and rooted, stock rom, anybody know how to get EPS mode? Already enabled normal power saver, but dying to get EPS

You can download NuSense and locate HTCExtremePowerSaver.apk in /system/priv-app and just push to your priv-app and should have it.
R u saying to install the rom to get it or just somehow pull the apk from it and put it in priv-app? I've never installed a custom rom before, been trying to get it on stock rooted rom… although I have been considering NuSense lately.. Forgive me for the dumb question, just not all that experienced with rams n stuff

Basically most custom ROMs have it.
My Bonestock ROM has it as well..
If you don't want to run a custom ROM, I could try and make you a .zip to get it working on your current set-up.
let me know.

I'm really trying to stay on the stock rom so if you had the time and were willing to make a zip for it, I would be forever in debt to you and I'm sure there are some others who would definitely appreciate it as well
I'm really not all that familiar with adb and fastboot (I know I need to learn) the only things I've ever really flashed is in recovery and I didn't really want to flash any of the other mods because they weren't specifically for our phone and I don't really want to screw anything up considering im pretty new to this

is only the .apk needed for it to work? I can't remember if more needed editing.
I know that Messaging.apk will most likely have an issue.
But I can edit the EPS.apk if he has this issue.

That is all he needs. The xml is already edited inside the apk to work with vzw.

It's an apk that has to be pushed to your system priv-app folder. Have root explorer or even terminal can move it if you know the commands.

I made this thread for this very reason.

You want to put it in the priv-app folder.
Then just flash in recovery.
I went ahead and made it for you, I attached it, just flash in recovery.
