everything was fine on my rooted sprint S3, until, when I went to connect the USB cord to send over a new mp3 for a ringtone, no new usb storeage device popped up on my computer this time. odd, because i'd connected the phone to my windows7 machine and send files back and forth accross usb before, having installed Sprint_L710_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe and worked around with CDMA workshop etc to great success prior. but for whatever reason, today, the device isn't showing up when plugged into usb.
i've followed some of my own standard debugging, uninstalling & reinstalling the usb drivers etc, other similar threads here recommended taking the phone's battery out a while and retrying, and haven't had any luck. as it is, cdma workshop isn't able to read the basic phone info after connecting to the com port either =s
The device shows in device manager with a com port as it should. The closest thing i can get to an error message instead of a silent failure is, after reinstalling the usb drivers and connecting the device for the first time, it runs though several installations and hangs on "samsung rmnet network driver"
I'm pretty frustrated, as this spontaneous issue and goosechase isn't what i was looking for when i just wanted to send a mp3 from my computer to my phone for the hundredth time =s

Further testing seems to be pointing towards the phone as the issue rather than my computer.
I connected a samsung rant to the original test computer, and was able to query basic phone info with cdma workshop.
I installed the sprint s3 usb drivers on a different computer, connected my device (and it seemed to install correctly, even beyond the samsung rmnet driver step), fired up cdma workshop and I'm still unable to query the basic device info once connected to the com port. cdma workshop says "failed... phone does not answer" and shows 10-12 bad packets.
The phone is otherwise behaving fine, calls, wireless data and all, but it's just not responding well to a usb connection anymore. I'm at a loss for what to try next at this point, can anyone help me think of what more I can do? I've tried connecting both with usb debugging set on and off; and as the only thing I could think of having changed since it last work being the addition of a sdcard, i tried with and without that present in the device.
I had the same problem and it was fixed by just rebooting my PC.
GS3 stopped responding in CDMA Workshop

Just had my third one in a row do the exact same thing...factory reset on the phone straightens it right out.
The situation remained unresolved until I waited for and eventually upgraded to a stock rooted icecream sandwich release. i wouldn't be surprised if the factory reset option would have worked too, but I didn't want to do that.
I've had this phone for about 4 months and it was working perfectly, flashing ROMs left and right. Yesterday I tried connecting my Samsung USB cable into my laptop and tried to hop on that USB storage. What my laptop is telling me when I connect it is strange. It says that it doesn't recognize the USB device. I tried re-installing the drivers, shutting both phone and laptop down and restarting.. nothing seems to work. Please help me, because without being able to connect to the laptop, my phone is going to be boring and unflashable. Thanks!

I've had this happen before with my first sgs2, i'm on my third now. Try it on another PC, with another cable, if that doesn't work I'd just send the unit back for a replacement because the USB port is probably malfunctioning.
I have my One X for like 5 months now. Everything was working just fine and I was able to connect my phone to my MacBook with no problems. I was able to transfer files using HTC Sync Manager as well. However, recently my phone would not connect to any computer. When I connect my phone to the computer it just starts charging, no other notification shows up in the bar. Sync manager would not see the phone as well. I don't know if its the software or my phone. I tried Windows and OSX; I tried different USB cables; Factory Reset did not help; Debugging is on. Its frustrating! It seems like people encounter this problem, but no real solution or answer has been found. Do you guys know something about this?
I hope I posted this in the right subsection.
I used to be able to connect my s3 to my computer just fine. Now When I try to connect it, it randomly connects and then disconnects after a few seconds going back and forth like that. My computer doesn't have enough time to install the drivers for it since it disconnects on its own like that.
This is not my computers problem since it wont connect to my other computers. I even tried reinstalling the os on my pc for new set of drivers, but no luck.
Im sure it has something to do with my phone. My phone is rooted, so if any fixes include being rooted, Im good with that.
I tried changing from mtp to ptp connections, removing the battery, trying different usb ports and cables.Tried with usb debugging on and off too.
Im at my wits end here. please help!
Your usb port may be going bad. Check the port for any built up lint or other crap. Also check the pins, make sure they are all there and straight.
I tried another USB cable and it worked

Had my A70 since July time, no issues so far, except for now. First time I needed to connect to my PC, Win 10 comes up with the 'WIndows didn't recognise the device' error. Have tried 2 different USB cables thinking it might be that but no different. Then I plugged my partners identical phone into the PC and it recognised it straight away so am assuming that there's no issue with the PC itself in terms of drivers etc. USB configuration/connections settings on both phones are identical, i. e. 'Transferrring files'. Tried Developer options with USB debugging on, I get connection sounds but eventually the error message on the PC. Anyone had similar or any ideas what the issue with my phone might be because i'm stumped?
OK, sussed it. With phone connected to PC I turned it OFF. Then turned it on again still connected. PC recognised something as an ADB device and said I needed to restart the PC, which I did. On restart, Device manager showed a Samsung Mobile USB Composite device connected but still didn't show in Windows Explorer. I disconnected the phone from PC and then plugged it back in again, this time I got a message on the phone asking me if I wanted to allow connections, I pressed 'Allow' and there it was.
Didn't have to do this with my partners phone so have no idea why mine should be any different!
