Hi, I'm currently running the latest version (Jan. 25th) of Dastin's CM10.1 Wild for the night ROM and I wanted to know if anyone knows of a way to update the PRL without having to flash back to a TW rom.
Sorry f this sounds stupid but it'd be great if there was a way I could flash a zip in recovery or something.
Lol I was just about to ask the same thing, how do you update prl WITH a tw ROM?

You have to either flash a TW ROM, or temp boot into el29 or something, and to the person who asked how to update PRL in a TW ROM, its in the settings->about phone->updates->update prl

Actually, you can update the prl in AOSP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626638
not really the same...that requires you to flash a prl via QPST, which requires you to have a PRL file and access to a PC with QPST installed.
TW roms allow you to automatically update to the most recent official Sprint PRL. The EL29 Tempboot used in the gps fix here will allow you to update PRL and Profile as well. Then just reflash your AOSP rom and you're good to go.
I know it's not the same as updating in TouchWiz but the OP didn't specify what method he was referring to for updating the PRL.

Searched for this and asked in Q&A. It's all GSM people. Haven't found anything for the CDMA version. You guys are the best resource
I'm rooted/unlocked with permanent CWM.
The phone keeps interrupting me with the update notification.
It fails to install because I have CWM.
I don't want to install a new ROM, just want the update. Is there an update for 4.0.2 that can be applied through CWM? ... like an update.zip anything flashable to bring me to 4.0.2?
Thank you all for your hard work.
Just because you don't get an answer to your question doesn't mean you post it in development section.

That wasn't my reasoning. It was a development related question about files that development would likely have. That's why I thought it was the most logical spot for it.
My apologies.

Thank you. That's what I was looking for. Found it in the GSM nexus development area btw.
Here's the link if anyone is looking for it.

Not sure what these numbers and letters mean....
Mine sais EL29, so i only flashed the ROM (Blazer ROM 4.0) that had all the same information as my phone displayed under "About Phone"....
This page http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=716 has a list of ROMs, a few of which i would like to use. Specifically the new ICS leaks (Hurry up SPRINT, release the ICS ALREADY!!)...
My question is... is the "EL29" "EH17" "SRF12" and all those others the firmware versions? Modem Versions? What are these? If a ROM specifies this information anywhere, will i have to upgrade or downgrade to the appropriate files (Or firmware) before flashing the ROM? I have no idea what these are or what they mean.
From what i've read and picked up, i know that some of these things will have to be done through ODIN and I think I read that some other things can be done through CWM, like flashing the ROM itself.
I just need a little more information on how flash ROMs properly concerning what needs to be done BEFORE you flash a new one
Things I already know:
1.) Must install a ROM compatible with your phone (DUH)
2.) Sometimes you gotta use ODIN (Is this only for root? Or do you use this to upgrade/downgrade modem firmware or something, too ?)
Also, what other file exensions should I be familiar with and what do they do? I just want to be able to modify my phone with no problems and a collection of links and bookmarks for me to pull it off. I'm not trying to be a programmer (yet =)
Any links specific to my questions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

WRONG SECTION
your looking for the epic touch this is the one with the keyboard.
But to answer your questions those are firmware versions that the ROM's are based on for our phone anyways.
Hahahaha. Dude typed all this crap just to find out he's in the wrong forum.

Well, we can still help...
EL29:
E = 2011
L = 12
29 = 29
So if this is a ROM, the base version was built on December 29, 2011 (apparently samsung employees worked the holidays...). If this is the modem version, guess what, the modem was built on December 29, 2011.
So to recap, the first letter is for the year, the second for the month and the last two for the day.
SRF1.2 = Syndicate ROM Frozen. This is an older ROM, based off of EC05 (March 5, 2011), and by the name, Android 2.2 (Frozen Yogurt). I don't know if there was an SRF for the Epic touch.

I already petitioned the mods and the big mods refused. That is why Jay posted the Non-Touch stickies but the problem with that is accessing with an app you don't see the stickies unless you click on that subject. Viewing from a PC also has a picture of our phone with keyboard open.

Ok, well here is the million dollar question from me for the day....does this root method- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743780&page=1 work with the latest update for the sprint GS3 SPH-L710?

Actually I can't. That thread requires you to have a certain post count before you can post into it.

No matter what Android version this phone gets updated to, unless the bootloader is locked and no longer allows us to flash custom recoveries, root methods will continue to work.
We don't need to look for exploits in order to root the GS3.
Cmon dude, you shouldve searched because this is probably the 4th / 5th thread asking this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169599
If you're rooted, you can just flash a 4.1.2 rom and update your modem to the 4.1.2 modem by grabbing it from freezas stock rom thread, thats pretty essentially all that changed

I did search and I came across this thread already (as well as a few others). However all were posted before the 4.1.2 update was released OTA so I was not sure. I had a few android devices before and each needed an exploit or tool that varied based on what Android version you had (i.e-unrevoked for evo4g on 2.3.4 that did not work on 2.3.5). My GS3 is still unrooted so I can't just flash the rom. I was asking if I can still root using the posted method on 4.1.2 since I did not come across any posts with that question and this is the first device I have had that does not require an OS based exploit to root it.

Ok ok, wasn't trying to come off in the way you interpreted it. But now you know, and Samsung devices in general are super easy to root
And also, the MB1 update that they talk about in that thread is the latest 4.1.2 OTA, so idk what you're talking about
Updates are referenced by the build number, hence LJ7 being 4.1.1, MA6 was the first 4.1.2, and MB1 was the second 4.1.2 OTA
yes it works
i can confirm for you that yes it works. i did it today.
I JUST got this update too
Thanks a lot. Sorry it took me so long to reply
Hi,
I have been searching and cannot update the PRL to another carrier. All dialer codes are useless, they go nowhere. Used the PRL unhide zip and still a nogo.
Using the latest Liquid smooth Rom. How can you change your PRL's on a custom Rom?
Thanks for looking into this.
As I believe qbking77 said before, you have to be on a touchwiz rom to change your prl. Custom roms wont let you. If changing your prl is a big deal for you, switch over lk8 and just use the lk8unhide.zip so you can change it.

I see. Thank you. Why is it so hard to incorporate even a network selector as in the olden days? (ie. Choose Verizon or Voicestream as preferred carrier.)

Hi,
I just rooted my tmo s4 on my mac using the motochopper. The phone keeps annoying me to update to the UVM update. Is it safe to update to this after rooting, or will i lost the root? Also, how can i disable this update notification? it keeps popping up on my screen
It won't let you update if you're rooted. You can delay the update message at least for a while by saying "remind me in 30 Days" or something similar.
I'd be tempted to flash a custom rom. Then the message would already be blocked

The best way to eliminate the update notification is to flash the best custom rom you can find.
Once you have done that there will be no more notifications about updating the firmware and
you will be able to enjoy all the benefits of having and using a custom rom.
The best & most professional custom rom currently available is the Wicked v3 MDL Samsung Touchwiz 4.2.2 based custom rom.
If you want to check it out here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265998
(the above is my personal opinion)
