[Q] Are there any major differences between an R800a and R800i? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using AT&T (USA)... my phone upgrade is here, but I'm waiting to use that on the Xperia Z... so I figured in the meantime I want to sell my black Xperia Play and get a white one.
I'd like to stick to R800a just out of having so many great experiences with it, but the only white one I can find that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is an R800i.
Will any complication arise in trying to flash THIS ROM to it? Any spec differences?

You can flash R800i stock firmware (ftf) on the R800a if you want. Other than that no. The bands will still be different even flashing R800i ftf. No 3g on R800a or R800i only edge.

I'm not completely sure what you're saying about that last statement. I have an R800a now and definitely do have 3G. Does that mean that I'll get it with the R800i as well?

No the R800i will not get 3G in America whatsoever. It only support HSPA 900/2100.

Well you could just buy the white housing for your play

Well I believe that the r800i is for Europe so flashing it on a r800a will cause loss of Service

[Q] R800a vs R800i Hardware

Hi guys!
Have any diference on Hardware between R800a and R800i? Because I have one R800a and I install a R800i firmware and in Device Info, show me R800i (but I changed again). I can use Firmware to R800i or only R800a? Have much more thinks about R800i. For example, is hard to search a .62 to R800a.
Thanks and sorry for my bad english

[Q] Arc or Arc S?

I'm back to SE after three years of "HTCing", and already have a problem. I've bougt second-hand SE Arc (?), the box says that it's LT15i (Arc), but the phone info says that it's LT18i (Arc S). How can I know what do I have?
Sent from nowhere
It's probably just the Arc that has had a Arc S ROM flashed to it.
It really doesn't matter Arc/Arc S are practically the same, if you have rooted phone you can edit the build.prob and change what model the phone is if you like

Yup, but it does matter when you flash baseband.

As far as i know Arc S should have a 1.4GHz procesor, when ARC has 1.0Ghz. But this is true with their official Rom`s, and it could be just a software limitation for ARC (back when i was having Gingerbread i have read a discussion where it was saying just that (that the CPU for ARC is software limited to 1 GHz).
So i believe that the only difference is that ARC is black (midnight Blue or something like that) and ARC S is white/silver.
About changing the model inside software is very easy, If rooted you can access the internal memory with a browser like Root browser and modify text inside file "/system/build.prop" from LT15i to LT18i on every line you encounter ... actually you can type anything you want there
P.S. (baseband) : Actualy it does not matter that much, at least with the .ftf`s you find here. The CDMA Cip is the same in both phones and it work no matter what baseband you put in it (i have a LT15i and installed BB70 for ARC S and it worked perfectly, and including the developer who released those base-bands answered that it does not matter, when i asked for BB for LT15i)

Arc: midnight blue and silver
Arc S: midnight blue, silver, black, white and pink
I think arc / arc s is the same, just have a different processor. so it will be difficult to distinguish

I heard that arc will not be getting jelly bean! I do.believe that all phone company's will not give more then 3 updates per model! Stop and think if they did no-one would buy new phones! That's my theory I could be wrong ? And in just not saying Sony, I'm saying Samsung,HTC, also

Whatever that thing is, chage the prop file and make it an LT18i. and then just overlcock the hell out of it.

Jelly Bean Update for the ION

Sony has announced that the Xperia ION will be updated to Jelly Bean in Q1 of 2013!
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/product...rades-jelly-bean-for-2012-xperia-smartphones/
.. Ion still an unknown, hopefully by then we can unclock bootloader for custom rom or port from those official update.
Sent from my LT28i using Tapatalk 2
I'm banking on summer 2013. The first round in Q1 are the new phones that just came out, second round at some undefined time shortly after that included the international ion. No word on any of the ATT phones. I'm betting we'll get it, but like in July.

What do you mean "Ion still an unknown"? That article says,
"Next up, we can confirm the global versions of Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1* – we will be back with detailed timings for these in due course."

Don't hold your breath for AT&T to release the update. So far it sounds like they don't plan on releasing JB for the ion. At least we can run the international version.

I meant time frame is an unknown - Spec is right - ATT doesn't seem like they care much about Ion, so getting update is far beyond the thinkable. I am too don't like ATT fw, so happy with any other options

Interesting but with rogers I would hold your breath on aswell. They took 5 months extra for the arc to get ics.

I still can't believe att ion saw ics really. A bit surprising to me especially taking into account what little interest they've shown with the device so far. Or Sony in general for that matter. There all about Samsung & HTC, Sony tends to fall through the cracks.
They could at least allow us to unlock the damn bootloader though, but I'm not holding my breath on that either.
X10a suffered same fate however most of us were eventually able to unlock BL. There were still certain serial #'s that remained unlockable, mine was one of the lucky one's. Don't get your hopes up.

will we still be able to use AT&T LTE if we use the international release? i dont give a **** about the 40Mbps speeds i dont need that much but the low latency has been fantastic for SIP calls and IRC

Nope. That's the only one. And it's a WIP. A little buggy as of now, but should be ironed out. But thanks to CM/FXP, at least we have JB for our phones.

Not exactly. You get more internal memory with the Arc S firmware.

Froyo?

Is Froyo (Android 2.2) Possible on our Plays?

Seriously, it's probably very doable, but if you've got all that time an energy....
Why do you want froyo? Im pretty sure froyo is slower than gb and has less features.

It will be lot of work because you must make drivers for our HW and make/edit whole new framework. Maybe it will have more RAM but with cost of porformance.. But on the other side it would be very interesting to try Froyo.
Well, good luck with googling
