Got my free Tech Tiles from Sammy and found that I had to turn on and unlock my phone to use them. Well that just wasn't going to do.
All Credit Goes to Mayhemmer on the GS3 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1712024
I included a flashable zip for those who wan't it and the apk itself if you just wanna push it with root explorer or something.
it would be best to make a backup of your NFC.apk, I tested with KillaJoule v.09 but don't see any reason it wouldn't work with other roms with the same base. If not let me know and I will try and make another one from the rom you are using.

Just installed it on Tesh's dll7 rom. After setting permissions and restarting, everything seems to be working normal.
Just an FYI for those trying it. The screen has to be on for it to work.
Thanks for the heads up on this.
Have been trying some many other NFC mods, but experienced random FCs.
But this one is pure gold. Not FC since 18 hours in use. Great! Thanks!
if I posted the Sprint NFC.apk can you mod it to work screen off? I REALLY REALLY miss the screen off NFC from my S3 and want it badly on my Note II
Hi, does it work on stock Note II ? Or it is specific to T-Mobile ?
Thx
FWIW on the Tweaked rom you can choose the behavior - normal, normal + lockscreen, or all that + screen off.

Ah just found it in the T-Mobile Note 2 Section. Shame mine isn't a T-Mobile one, as that would have been a handy feature.
Hello,
My Note 2 is stock with root (4.1.2 XXDLK7). I have a nfc.apk and also nfc.odex on it. what to do with the odex file ?
Thanks for your help
AW: [mod] NFC With the Screen Locked

Use Tasker for that.
They give away Tasker Beta for free, as stated in this article:
http://phandroid.com/2013/01/22/tasker-beta-ui-redesign/
You can delete the odex file or if you made a backup of your nfc.apk you can just rename it to nfc.odex.bak

If you can send me the nfc.apk I could mod it to work from the lock screen. For some reason screen off doesn't work for the Note 2 like it did for the S3. Might try getting screen off to work later when I have some time.

Is it possible to have NFC working while screen is off on stock rom (i've replaced Nfc.apk but it's working only on locked phone)
Any way to mod the CM10.1 NFC? I tried the one in the OP in CM10.1 and the NFC service just can't be started. Below is a link to stock cm10.1 NFC.apk if anyone is kind enough to make it work with screen off

Well as the title say I need some testers. I'm developing an app which one for now works with, Galaxy Nexus Maguro, but I need some SGS3 testers since it suppose to work with the SGS3 also if you have a Galaxy Nexus please try it too.
What you need
Samsung Galaxy Nexus rooted and/or Samsung Galaxy S3 rooted.
What you need to do
Simple, just start the app (App Test) you will see a text that says: ----Notifications---- and under that text other text that says TEST Notification.
1. You need to see a toggle button at the right of the second text.
2. When you turn on the toggle you have to see a notification that says: Notification ONLINE
3. When you turn off the toggle the notification should be clear.
What if I don't see something about the 3 points above?
Post what you see, and tell me what the Toast message says. I will see and try to fix it.
PLEASE POST IF IT WORKS AND IF IT DOESN'T
App is attached.
Can I try this for the arc s? Just curious

Another I'm not sure why in the hell AT&T or Samsung did this. Its pretty annoying, I'm pretty sure we know that we are wifi, and you guys do not need inform us the ENTIRE TIME...anyway...
Flash in recovery. I have tried to test every aspect of the Settings since decompiling to make sure there are no FC's so If you encounter any please let me know.
This should work with or without being de-odedex. However please delete the "SecSettings.odex" file in /system/app after flashing.

On the stock ROM it didn't work until I deleted the secsecurity.odex file. Works like a charm now - thanks so much for solving one of the most irritating minor annoyances on this phone!
Sorry for being a NOOB, But base on the instruction, after flashing it, we are to delete the SecSettings.odex file in system/app.
After flashing it with TWRP, I went into ES File Explorer to look for it and cant find it.....Am I doing something wrong?

Would THIS work for our phone? I am running JediX12 ROM but Im assuming it would work for any ROM and work in general as I poked around inside the apk with ninjamorph and an xml editor and found all the needed things to change. I just cant seem to get it to work and I would really love this mod simply for the SCREEN ON/OFF toggle. I hate that the screen turns on with a text and right now Im using SMS Pop Up to band-aid the problem but this would be a permanent fix! I'm sure other users would love this feature too! Plus there are a bunch of other cool features that could be implemented too, idk why Samsung didn't do this off the bat! Could someone with more experience upload a modified APK for me/all of us?
Thank you
Anyone have any ideas?
Well I know the screen on/off bit works on the T-Mobile UVALL4 4.1.1 SecMms (it's included in Tweaked fwiw), so I would imagine it to work on the international-based ones as well.
I figured it would work but I didn't know for sure. Problem is I can't figure out how to do it...I tried following the directions and I just can't figure it out I can't get the app decompiler to work. I messed with the xml using NinjaMorph on my phone and the things are there to make this work but I don't know how to do it. Maybe I will download Tweaked and just pull the apk out of there.

Hey Guys,
Back when i had my Nokia n95 "great phone", i could download and install a small animation thing that could animate the screen-turn-on and off so that it looked the a CRT screen from the old days?
- Does anyone know if such a thing exists for the Note II, or if its hard to code?

I use Wanam's great ROM. It can be enabled in this ROM. I suppose you don't want to flash a whole new ROM though when you don't want to root though. I think you need at least root to be able to change it.

For non rooted you can use an app.

My apologies, when I read it back it is indeed lousy English. I meant that when you don't actually want to root your device, flashing a whole new rom might be too much. I must say that besides the animation, the rom gives a lot more nice features, yet it stays close to the original Samsung rom, so it would still be interesting to look at maybe. Installing is quite easy and explained in the WanamLite rom thread.
