[Q] GPS problem on my Desire HD Jelly Bean ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
First of all, sorry for my probably bad English. (I'm from Ukraine, Sevastopol)
I installed ROM from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778202 the last release (42_R2)
It works fine, and i surprised of speed of my phone. Thanks people, who make this ROM.
But I have one bug, that I can't fix.
I had no working GPS.
What i tried:
this:
"Use GPS Status and in the menu>tools>manage A-GPS , do a reset. Then check that GPS are fixed." - from here. - not worked for me.
this:
Click - downloaded this link http://derekgordon.com/gps-files/agps.patch.google.build.cwm.v3.1.zip and success install it from recovery. - not worked (or I something did wrong).
How I test:
with program GPS Status and GPS test. In the second the indicator of power of GPS is Yellow (but GPS is ON and coordinates of wireless is on too), but I know, that normally it must be Green. And i have zero satelites founded for a long time ago. I tried to find GPS in a good weather, of course.
My information:
Phone: HTC DESIRE HD
Radio: 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Core Version: 3.0.59_JellyTime_42_R2-g9f22a5f-dirty [email protected]#2 Sat Jan 19 00:05:34 PST 2012
Could Anyone help me with this?

Try another ROM if it still doesn't work you can have problem with firmwire like I. I've wriiten about this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116148

I flashed orginal non-rooted rom and GPS has started work again. Next i've done root and restore rom and GPS work ! But camera still doesn't work

Try to flash the original pd98img.zip and after flash last version of jellytime r4....

[Q] Can't make outgoing calls

When i make a call the call is immediately interrupted (after a short *bleep). Getting called works though.
I have done a full-wipe and using:
- LeeDrOiD V2.3.4 BETA 4 R2
- Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF - HTC WWE 1.72.405.3 R2
After some simple tests i found that wifi was interrupting the call. When disabling wifi i can make calls again.
I think i have the corresponding logfile (using adb logcat).
I am aware that the rom i am using is still a beta, but since i haven't (yet) found any other user having the same issues i decided to create this question thread. Who can give me some advice to fix this problem? Thanks!
When wifi is on, but not connected to a wifi-network i can make phone calls. Only when connected to a wifi-network, the call immediately gets disconnected after a short bleep.
Found only a single user having simular issues, only he runs on another ROM:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2732
E-mailed this person but we both came to the conclusion his problem was different and solved by a ROM update.
Attached is the logcat output. Three lines got my attention:
Code:
D/CallNotifier( 7167): - onDisconnect: cause = ERROR_UNSPECIFIED, incoming = false, date = 1300277007142
D/CallNotifier( 7167): - DisconnectCause is ERROR_UNSPECIFIED: play TONE_CALL_ENDED!
D/InCallScreen( 7167): onDisconnect: incoming: false state: DISCONNECTED post dial state: NOT_STARTED, cause=ERROR_UNSPECIFIED
Full-wiping again and installing LeeDrOid again didn't fix the problem. Installing CoreDroid V4 didn't fix the problem either.
Anyone got some advice how to fix this problem on the Gingerbread beta releases?
Just letting you guys know my issue is resolved, maybe it will help anyone later on experiencing same issues.
I found out not only disabling wifi will make outgoing calls work again, also changing the network settings from 'gsm / wcdma automatic' to 'only gsm' and reverting back again temporarily fixed the problem (outgoing calls were allowed again while wifi was enabled).
I Just flashed a new radio: Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M_Test - HTC Ace Gingerbread S Generic 2.16.0.0
Now everything is working as it should be! I thought it wouldn't be the radio as the issue was solved on an older rom with the same radio.
Edit: The problem persists. At first it seemed to work, but later on the problem came back. It looks like the Gingerbread beta contains a bug, but strange enough not effecting much people... Comparing the dmesg log with a dmesg log of a successful call pointed out that the next few logs are missing on a interrupted call:
Code:
[10894.955902] wds: 0020 @ 01
[10894.956024] qmi: wds: got handle 0x02a73d58
[10894.956542] wds: 0022 @ ff
[10894.956665] qmi: wds: CONNECTED
[10894.957977] wds: 002d @ 01
[10894.958068] qmi: got network profile
[10894.959259] rmnet_open()
Can anyone figure this out?
Isn't there anyone that can help me find out what is wrong or how to troubleshoot this furthermore? Can someone help me analyze the log files. The last thing i want to do is revert to stock and send the phone back for repair . Please advice!
I think it is a kernell/radio issue....
Yes it really looks like a kernell thing, now running excellent on LeeDroiD HD 2.2.2 with LeeDroiD's kernel 2.2.8 using radio 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2. Still find it strange i am one of few experiencing it. That's the only thing that makes me uncertain about this being a kernell issue, as others should then have experienced simular problems wouldn't they?
I think i will just have to wait for a new (major) kernell release of GB.
Hey,
I am using CM7 and get this issue as well.
Sometimes when I call people all I get is a beep and it disconnects.
Switching to 2g works for me but that is not a good solution imo.
Wish I could get this fixed.
I am glad to see I'm not on my own on this one! 2g isn't a fix for me either, its a not-so-pleasant workaround. Temporarily disabling wifi was a faster workaround, maybe this works for you too. I went back to 2.2.1 because of this problem, maybe you should too.
Please keep me updated!
I always have wifi off when out and about.
Did you get stock rom or something? Post a link to the rom please.
I am just about to try cm7 rc3 - out today.
I installed RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26 .03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824357
After that i gained root and ENG S-OFF again, did a full-wipe and installed LeeDroiD HD 2.2.2 with LeeDroiD's kernel 2.2.8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842802) followed by radio 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295)
So what do you think I should do?
Go back to stock and stick with it?
That depends... I am no expert on this as I am on the same boat as you are. If this is disturbing you as much as it disturbed me you could give the ROM I am now using a go, that's LeeDroiD HD 2.2.2.

Well I am using CM7 rc3 for now with the latest radio.
I have also changed to GSM auto (PRL).
Will report back tomorrow.
did you set up an voip-account with your cellphone?
I am imagining a scenario like this: voip-Account set up and the option "use internet calls" set to "for every call" (may be called differently, my rom is set to german).
Now, if you enable Wifi, your phone would try to connect to your voip provider and if that fails for whatever reason you should be getting error messages...
If you have your phone sync your settings through you google account, that would explain the error reappearing after full wipe, new radio software and even on a new rom. Flashing a 2.2 rom would make the issue disappear though, as 2.2 doesn't support voip...
Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately this was not the case. There weren't any SIP-accounts configured. I also tested this by not configuring any synchronization accounts after fully wiping and installing a Gingerbread ROM.

Yesterday-evening i installed CyanogenMod 7.0.0-DesireHD and I did not have any issues. After that i installed CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V5.1 but with that rom the problem came back. How did it go for you, you didn't report back.
So does anyone know what the similarities and differences between those two roms are? Both are running on Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). CM is No-Sense while CoreDroid is Sense. Are both using the same kernel? Could a difference in drivers be causing our problem? How can i find the drivers that are being used?
Have u checked your apn settings? I had to manually enter proxy and port after cm7 stable install for my phone to work.
Sent from my DHD
Yes, checked those too. At the moment happily using CM-7 without any problems, so as long i stick with this rom everything is fine. Not really a solution but at the moment very happy with this ROM.

Read the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106389
But I have no idea what Sense ROM is and what actually I need to do. MSL reader doesnt work on my device.
I wanted to download CyanogenMod7.2 RC3 but upon installing in CMRecovery it said Im missing /system/app/certinstaller.odex (I guess I need higher version of droid, not sure).
So what can I do? If theres a solution to fix gps for cyanogen 7.0 please send me a link. If you know why Im having problems with CyanogenMod7.2 RC3 installation please tell me.

Thanks for this. I did flash the fix but sadly it has made no difference. I'm thinking that I'll try this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uujSsv1xn0k&noredirect=1 as it seems to me that my gps might be broken.

Thanks. I don't really want to go back to 4.1. I'm not convinced my gps works hardware wise, so I'm going to try fixing it.

You must update gps.conf in /system/etc (with adb)
with your region and country

for example for France:

Doesn't this mean I would have to change the gps.conf when I, for example, go to New York in December?
Also I should point out that the gps on my phone does not work AT ALL, it's not just slow or weak. Since flashing custom roms it has never worked,in fact as I had the phone replaced last year when it was stolen, I'm beginning to wonder if it has ever worked. I'm really beginning to think it's a hardware issue.
I too have been struggling to get GPS working on my DHD after rooting it and installing a custom rom last weekend. (Jellytime R11)
The GPS was functional, if slow to connect prior to rooting. Everything else works fine, mobile data, wi-fi, bluetooth etc.
I've tried everything short of flashing a new radio, as I would need S-OFF for that, and can't figure out how to gain S-OFF from a non-stock starting point. That being said, I haven't been able to return to stock rom, as all the RUUs I've tried give me a connection error (170)
Tried methods to fix GPS:
-checked functionality of the receiver, contacts cleaned, not faulty
-different AGPS patches
-made nandroid backup from current custom rom, wiped and installed the rooted stock ROM, and recovered. (This at least got me a notification of "searching GPS" as opposed to nothing at all when using GPS Status.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Especially toward gaining S-OFF.
Unlocked S-ON
HBOOT 2.00.0029
CID: HTC_Y13
Radio: 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M
EDIT: SOLVED!

LG GPad 8.3 V500 running latest AOSP 6.0 (adrianom) won't GFS fix

Hi xda ppl,
My first post and first time I have flashed an android device after following the good info gleaned from these forums.
I'm happy with the new lease of life this ROM provides over the stock 4.4.2, but I can't seem to use any GPS apps. I have the GPS test app loaded and even after 15 mins on the window sill, I only saw 4 sats but no fix. I've tried some other gps.conf files, but to no avail.
I was wondering if any other GPad owners on 6.0 have tested their GPS or are aware of any changes needed to gps.conf to get it working?
Thanks
Stuart.

As you (and I) are using the pure AOSP, there's only limited support for Location. The needed drivers for the hardware are part of the LG originals soft. Hence not really useable... Same goes for all the other LG-gimmicks that need proprietary drivers (IR, DLNA, etc...)
Cheers
Thanks for explaining that. I've just replaced AOSP 6.0 with the 5.0.2 V50030B that includes Fishears 1.0.3 (thanks @aicjofs).
I installed it over the top (is that what you call a dirty flash?) I still can't get any sats in GPS Test and could still see the /etc/gps.conf files I had been playing with. So I did a full wipe of system, cache, data and internal storage and then reflashed V50030B.
The gps.conf from this ROM looks like it needs some localisation (I'm in the UK), so I'll take a copy and make some edits.
As I'm typing, I can see one sat after about 20mins - Am I on the right track as from what I've read, this is LG's LP ROM for Hong Kong and has all the LG apps and should have the code for the sensors & GPS?
(As I'm a a new user (less than 10 posts) I can't ask the dev direct)
Thanks,
Stuart.

Indeed it's called a 'dirty flash'. However, you're lucky it works. Downgrading usually ends up in a mess. And your move to the modified kernel wasn't helping. Most drivers are included in the proprietary blobs of the original kernel.
20 minutes to get a first satelite is long, very long. Even on AOSP with some testing software I get 2-3 sats in less then 5 minutes. But, as drivers are not implemented in AOSP, no fix. Same goes for IR, DLNA etc...
Cheers
Progress update: I wiped everything off the GPad and replaced 5.0.2 V50030B Fishears 1.0.3 with adrianom's AOSP 5.1.1_r24 (LMY48W) whose forum thread mentions GPS is working.
I use the same GPS test app as you and after some edits to gps.conf to localise to the UK, I got a fix after about 1 min so I am a happy bunny :good:
Maybe adrianom will further develop his AOSP 6.x ROM in the future; I will keep an eye on these threads
Thanks
Stuart.

HELP : Get the GPS to work again

Hello community.
For about 3 weeks now the GPS of my Note 2 isn't working anymore. Here's a bit of the story :
I was on latest Marshmallow RR rom (5.7.4) with working GPS and everything, when at one moment the phone crashed. I made a force reboot (holding power button) and when restarting, for no apparent reason, my phone was sim-locked on my previous carrier.
I've contacted the carrier to get a sim-unlock code, but it wasn't accepted. I had to flash an original firmware to unlock by code, then re-flash a custom rom.
I've decided to switch to Nougat RR (5.8.x), everything was working fine, at least that what I thought. When about 1 week and half later I needed to use the GPS, it didn't manage to get a gps fix, and could locate only by the wifi or gsm networks. No very usefull for car navigation ...
Since then, I tried flashing many things to get it work :
- flashing aicp boot.img to fix GPS on RR rom : didn't work
- flashing AICP (12.1) full rom : didn't work
- flashing an original firmware ( tried N7100XXUFND3_N7100OXAFND3_XEF, N7100XXUFPF1_N7100FTMFPE2_FTM and N7100XXUFNI2_N7100BOGFNI1_BOG ) : didn't work
- applying GPS Fixer zip (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455885) to AICP : didn't work
I'm currently running on AICP with FPE2 firmware, and GPS don't fix.
I have no more ideas on what I should do to make the thing work, please help me :crying:
I'm back ...
For the ones who read my post, sorry for wasting your time ... it seams that the GPS was working ...
I gave some tries yesterday and it got a position. Seams like I didn't test in correct areas and it couldn't receive any signal ...
Well, now everything is good
