help updating hboot - HTC One X

I want to upgrade my hboot so i can run a jb rom. How do i go about doing this? My current hboot is 0.43.00000 and cid is H3G__001. It is also S-ON but unlocked.

First : are you on a custom rom now and do you know how the recovery and fastboot commands work ?
And did you make a nandroid backup of the stock original rom ?

I am on stock 4.0.3 and yes I know how the fastboot commands work. I know how to use clockwork recovery if that counts too.

Oke maybe an easy one, is the rom full stock as in no removed bloatware apps or any other stuff ?

I'm not sure what you mean. It has all my apps on but nothing is custom on it. And i also have a backup of this rom.

Oke lets test it !
Flash back this recovery and start updating
http://db.tt/W5IJ8asG
You will loose root when its updated but you re-root very easily after the update !

It all flashed ok and nothing seems to be different.

No that's correct but to be able to update the phone you have to be on stock recovery, stock Rom and kernel .... Now go into settings - info - software updates (or a similar menu) and start checking for updates. At least an update to android 4.04 sense 4.1 should pop up !

Yup an update came up. Should I install it?

Yes please, then we know if all is stock enough to update

Ok it updated to android 4.0.4 and sense 4.1 what now?

Depends if your carrier has rolled out the JB update yet, but i think not .....

Nope they havent. I'm on three uk btw.

Then you have to options
1 stay on stock untill JB is available
2 flash the custom recovery and perform a new NANDROID BACKUP, and flash a custom rom. Or root this one again

but i need a better hboot for a jb rom. My hboot has changed to 1.12.0000 now.

Yes that's correct, you can't go to JB at this moment. The unofficial firmware is also not released for you .....so you must have patience

Okie, thanks for the help! ^^

No problem

You said this also in another thread. Please correct it. please stop spreading this around you are confusing people !!!
Yes you can go flash back to ics !
OK Thanks so let me get this straight I can upgrade to HBoot 1.31 from 1.12 I can then install JB Roms namely RENOVATE 11.0.0?
If I find I don't like the Renovate ROM can I then go back to Viper ROM by restoring my backup
Thanks Again
Yes that is correct ! Do a nandroid of your existing rom. Try the JB and if you don't like it you perform a full wipe in recovery, flash the boot.img from your nandroid backup and restore the nandroid in recovery
How do you do a nandroid backup I have TWRP Recovery Thanks

Don't know i never used that recovery......
Is there an option that says backup maybe ?
Yes there is a backup option so I use that do a full backup is it OK to backup to the phone or should I save the backup to my laptop then update hboot then flash the boot.img then install the revolution ROM
Is JB revolution rom a worthwhile upgrade from the vViper Rom ..........
DO this!
Do this or u will regret later.
Ur SD card will also be formatted so backup the SD to a safe folder on ur computer and also ur internal Memory(Contacts etc)Using Superbackup app.
Now make a backup using the recovery and copy the backup to ur pc so that next time when u install the recovery u can place the backup in its folder!
Thanks for the help still not done it, don't want to brick my phone when installing the Viper Rom everything went perfectly but not sure about JB Rom with changing HBoot etc is there an "idiots" guide detailing the steps for a noob like me thanks

OK whats to regret with updating HBoot now? Will I get the official update as I'm not on stock
Really don't understand all this
When you update your hboot now you could.....i say could get problems running a ics rom, or problems with GPS . There are still a few bugs around.
When you are on stock you can update with the official OTA from HTC no problem with that.
When you are not on stock you can not update officially updates from HTC. The phone has to be full stock
Stock rom
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
But if you plan to stay on a JB custom rom then you can flash the new hboot, you will have no problems running the JB roms
But that's a choice you have to make for yourself
OK I think I see, right now I'm using the Viper ICS ROM but was thinking of going on the JB ROM revolution
So now I'm using Viper ICS I will not be able to update my phone through HTC's official updates, will I need to go back to stock to get official updates, or do I just wait till I can get HBoot through unofficial sources
Sorry for all these questions .....

[Q] Re-root and Customs Roms after OTA JB Update

Hi everyone,
Hopefully an easy question for those more experienced than I...
I have previously rooted my OneX and installed custom roms on ICS. I restored original rom, re-locked bootloader and flashed original recovery so I could install the JB update over the air. This all went smoothly.
I used over the air update as my CID wasn't on the list here (yet):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
I would like to re-root my device and start installing the custom JB roms. Can I just unlock the bootloader again, install CWM recovery, then start flashing the JB roms (and boot.img) as before, using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592355
Or is there something I need to wait for?
Thanks,
Craig

I'm seeing something about HBoot in some of the custom roms. I can't seem to find a clear explination, but is this something that was updated when I updated OTA, or does it need to be modified again to run the custom roms?
Thanks,
Craig
So what i understand you are on stock JB at the moment ?
If so yes you can unlock, install custom recovery and flash JB roms the same way as you did on ics
You can check the top of the bootloader if it says hboot 1.31 or higher you are good to go

[Q] About Upgrading HBOOT After Installing Custom ROM

Hi,
First time user of an Android device. I have a branded Vodafone HTC One X that I unlocked and flashed Cyanogenmod 10 on. It works wonderful, runs really fast and is overall much better than Sense. Now that Cyanogenmod 10.1 has reached beta stage, I'm intending on trying out JB 4.2.1. In order to do that, I need to update my HBOOT past 1.28.
It is here that I am quite lost. I did a bit of reading around on xda and other forums to figure out the best method and got a lot of different and sometimes conflicting info. I think this FAQ is the most accurate to my situation although I am worried that it is out of date: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
If it helps, the current HBOOT version on my phone is 1.12 and the CID is VODAP021.
It seems the consensus is that I have to (from top to bottom order):
Revert back to stock Sense ROM
Revert back to stock recovery
Relock bootloader (Do I lose root when I do this?)
Run the correct RUU for my phone in order to update HBOOT
Re-unlock bootloader, re-root (if necessary), re-flash custom recovery and flash CM10.1
Are all the above steps correct?
I am aware that there is a collection of stock Nandroid backups somewhere on this forum, but for simplicity's sake can I just restore the Nandroid backup I made prior to flashing Cyanogenmod on my phone? Will restoring the backup also restore the boot.img file? Will the backup also revert my phone back to stock recovery?
Also, I looked on the RUU directory (http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=Endeavor) and found two RUU's that match my phone's CID: 1.26.862.3 and 1.29.862.11. Which one is correct?
Sorry if I seem to be bombarding with questions. I think I get the gist of it, but I'm rather paranoid of screwing up so I just want to triple check my understanding before I do anything. If I am over-complicating things, please let me know.
Yes root is lost on lock ( only remporarily ). When you unlock with fastboot oem unlock_token.bin you get back root.
Has Vodafone released JB update for your phone? If yes , then you dont need RUU. After returning to complete stock ( even recovery ) you cant update with official OTA . This will update the hboot.
You only have to revert to full stock and stock recovery. The bootloader can stay unlocked !
And yes the ota is out for him
The basic steps are :
Flash the boot.img from the nandroid backup
Full wipe in recovery (caches,data,system)
Restore the nandroid backup
Flash the stock recovery
According to your hboot 1.12 you are on 2.17 based android 4.0.4 software .....
This is your stock recovery

[Q] ok to install custom rom on hbbot 0.95.000?

just got a used htc one x optus branded australia, on cid optus001, hboot 0.95.000.
Its currently on ICS and want to update to JB. There is an Optus update to JB available but didnt want to update just in case i needed to be on a lower hbot for some reason
anyway i have read and read and read but its a bit overwhelming. I have rooted and installed cwm and want to flash ARHD Rom.
Here is the question:
THere seem to be a lot of issues with CID, im on CID: Optus001.
Can i just update to the official Optus JB Rom via OTA, then flash ARHD via recovery? or have i missed something?
any help in the right direction is appreciated
Yes if you want to run the latest JB roms you need to update your hboot first ! Is the phone full stock atm ?
You need to be on stock rom, kernel and recovery to be able to update. So if you are, please update.
After you updated you flash a custom recovery and make a NANDROID BACKUP of the stock rom (you need it to be able to update in the future)
Then you can install any rom out here

Yes im on full stock ICS, but custom recovery, can i update now to stock JB and i suppose it will update the hboot too?
If i can flash any rom i want whats the big deal about correct cid?
You need to flash back the stock recovery first. A custom rom is not related to any cid. That's why you can use them all
What's your main version number
Fastboot getvar version-main
I can provide you the stock recovery when i have that number.
Or look in the settings menu - about for the info i need.
It probably starts with 1.28.***.** or 1.29.***.**

great thanks but now i have no wifi and no phone signal when i installed ARHD
Ill search and see what i can find
You updated the phone to JB ? Flashed back a custom recovery ? Made a nandoid backup of the stock rom ?
When you installed the new rom, did you perform a full wipe before installing it ? And did you flash the boot.img from the new rom ?
worked when flashing the boot.img
thanks once again, now just cant get bloody MMS texts to work even though i have input teh correct apn settings
thanks once again
Hmm don't know much about mms on that rom, i never used the rom and also never used mms

directory for HOX official updates

i have HTC one x which is rooted and unlocked boot loader but i checked for updates after i got it unlocked and rooted , there was a new update i downloaded it and tried to install when i restart the update should be installed but every time i click restart to update the device restarts but dose not install the updates instead the device boot into TWRP recovery screen, so my question is how can i install the official updates? or is there is a way to install them manually using TWRP Recovery screen?
Is your rom still stock ? (No apps deleted) then you need the stock recovery.
What software number are you on now
2.17, 3.14 or even higher ?

what would this file do exactly? will it relock the boot or unroot
sorry im new in all of this so basically i know nothing
No you need the stock recovery (HTC) because the custom recovery that we use to flash roms is not capable of handling official update files from htc.
This will not lock the bootloader, it will only replace the custom recovery so that you are able to install the OTA update.
worked and updated thanks for the help
No problem !
