[Q] How to extract my Theme? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys i have made some sort of theme just combined ALOT ALOT ALOT of stuff together you can check it out in my signature i wanted to know if there is some where to just pull it all out, i dont want to make a nandroid or some sort of backup to get my apps back i just want some apk or zip that i can move from galaxy nexus to another galaxy nexus and that it will just change the theme so i thought about pulling out my theme and just changing files in another theme that is already ready.
Will be happy for a guide if someone know or for some direction, i have no knowledge in android software only in java.
Thank You
EDIT: already made 3 themes but it takes me around a day to make each perfect but i cant save them so im just wasting alot of time on changing it back to the previous one. still needs help! how to just copy all the shortcuts/wallpaper/widgets etc. TY!

BUMP ?

If you're not de-compiling and recompiling the apk's on your computer then I wouldn't really call what you have a "theme" because at that point you would have the edited apk's i.e. systemUI, framework-res and others on your computer. But from your link it looks like you have a couple "customizable" apps and you changed 3 of the navbar images. Have you done anything to mms, email, calculator, phone, contacts, settings to make a "complete" theme? You can adb pull the apk's you edited from your device and package them in a zip to flash on another device. But that device needs to be running the same exact rom.
Why you're not using and working with the theme engine is beyond me.
good day.

I have most of the stuff you said inverted with different mods, so how about make it more simple just export the home screen? how do i do that?
all the rest i can adjust each apk and recompile it then flash it and have the right color/theme for stuff like contracts/phone etc.
what is theme engine? i am using aokp and its abit them-able and also some launchers can give 1 color theme to most of the stuff my base was Holo Green btw i just customized it, so what exactly do you mean when you say theme engine?
TY

You need to download a theme template and edit it by decompiling it.
This is the Theme Chooser engine being referred to. Its used in CyanogenMod and AOKP, PA.. etc

thank you for your answer but none of the above are including what im trying to do, i already know what is theme manager and i know i can tweak themes to change them but again my problem is themes i already made i want to export them, i dont know how to re edit a full team and add inverted stuff and change homescreen with 10 widgets on it from code that doesnt even make sense all i want to do is to save the way my screen looks like to be able to upload it on any rom on same device later on in the future that way i can also export to people my themes and use them myself. the guide you gave me is not about editing themes its just about how to change folders and files in an already exist theme which i cant do becouse i have no idea where all my widgets icons shortcuts that i use implanted in the phone so i cant really copy paste them. thank you for trying tho.

Widgets/Shortcuts are launcher items, Try and find the export option in your launcher settings. You can then copy these exported setting files to another phone and import them there (the apps/widgets need to be installed though)

Restore Original G1 theme and fonts!

Not liking any of the themes or fonts and want to go back to the way things originally were on your G1 without wiping?
Well, good news, I have four updates that will do just that. Same as before, just rename it to update.zip, put on sdcard, boot into recovery, press alt s, and let the magic begin!
I have versions for Haykuru(G), ADP1.1(JF 1.4), ADP1.1H(Holiday), RC8, RC30 and RC33.
Thanks to mannyb for getting me the files I needed to make ADP1.1 update, he also kind of gave me a kick to get working on it. Thanks.
To restore only the fonts download the last link. not that these themes do not restore the fonts, so if you want to restore the fonts along with the theme then flash the font update.zip as well.
Links:
RC8: http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/update_rc8.zip
RC9: http://rapidshare.com/files/216685878/update_rc9-jf.signed.zip
RC30: http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/update_RC30.zip
RC33: http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/RC33-update.zip
ADP1: http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/update_ADP1.zip
Fonts: http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/update-fonts.zip
Note! If you are going to use this as a template for your own theme, do NOT remove any files from the update as it will cause a looped phone.
The updates below wipe out /system/app so that a clean install can be ensured.
ADP1.1 (JF1.4): http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/ADP1.1-update.zip
ADP1.1H(Holiday): http://www.fightforthepits.com/Androidstuff/ADP1.4H-update.zip
These theme templates are to be considered *BETA* This is because with all the changes that are being made to these builds, meaning the daily and nightly builds, something could possibly change that would render this theme template unusable. Mind you this template has the apps, framework, and the fonts included. This has been confirmed to work on the build created by THEDUDEOFLIFE. This will WIPE out /system/app! So any additional apps stored therein will be gone. The apps available in his build is what will be present upon using this theme template as is. Remove apps from this update as needed to accomodate your needs.
I highly suggest using TheDudeOfLifes build with this theme template. I do not know how it will work on other (G) builds. Be forewarned!
I make no promises, guarantees or anything else of the like by making this file available, you assume all risk that might be incurred by putting this on your phone.

Great post thanks and i agree this is wiki material. Honestly though with these new themes coming out I'm never gonna go back
i think icons wrong
sorri wrong place
sweeet, thanks alot worked like a charm, so being a noob like me, should I revert back to this before switching themes? i also signed this zip archive with the signature keys that was included with the AndroidMod kit that i used to revert from OTA rc30 to RC29...is this also the correct thing to do? you dudes are awesome thank you!
Thanks
You shouldn't need to resign this, I did it myself, but it never hurts to sign again.
I would recommend flashing to this before flashing to another theme just to make sure that everything is flushed out from the previous themes.
Stericson
Hey, Mr Stericson, would it be possible for you to add the default theme for ADP1.1 too?
I sure will do that. Will, have it up tonight.

How would I incorporate this into my theme's update.zip in order to use a different font throughout android? I want to replace the digital clock font, but I don't mind if it changes that specific font throughout android.

just replace the font sansdroid with your own and flash the update again. just make sure it has the same name. It will however change the fonts througout the entire phone.
Also guys sorry for the delay I will have a compatible update available today. I promise.
Stericson
Thanks for the reply Stericson. I guess I should have been more specific with my question. I am releasing a beta tonight, for a theme I have been working on for a while. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, how would I "merge" your font update.zip into my theme update.zip? I want to release my theme with a custom font built in. Can I just find the sansdroid font in my theme zip and change it, or do I need to include some modified files to do that?
check out my adp1 update for trial by fire. Replace my files with your own.

[SKETCH] Dialer Tab for Galaxy. Need some help!

Hello to all XDA-Developers members,
I've made today a dialer layout, which is almost done. I must start to cutt-off the pngs for dialer app, but while i was working I started wondering if is there any way to make the tab bar of the dialer transparent.
Can you tell me if that is possible?
here is the design:

Please help me
EDIT
This is how I would like to look like with transparency
Hi
You'll need to modify some files in twframework-res.apk to change the tabs. Look for "tw_tab... .png". Unfortunately it's not controlled by the dialer.
but theoretically it is possible to make them transparent, am I right?
Theoretical its possible to theme anything in Android!
I have another question for you guys.
After I replaced some images in the dialertabactivity.apk and repacked it, replaced it in apps, my phone is not showing the app anymore. I even tryed to clean up the caches but useless. How am I suppose to proceed, so my app can be recognized by the phone.

Did you resign it? I know it's not the same app but it happens with Widgetlocker if it's not been resigned... Use APK Manager should do the trick
can i somehow to test the apps in a virtual android emulator? because at my last try something went wrong and I needed to reflash all system. don;t know why.
Hey man.
If you've already got this dialer, can you optimize this dialer for multi-dpi resolutions? It isnt that hard if you know some basics It looks awesome!
I will try boys. It's not ready yet, I still have a lot of work to do and a lot to read, because I haven;t modified other apps before.
This is how I decided to look. Maybe in the future I will change it a bit.
i don't know a finish date, because I have many exams at school right now and my free time is very limited.
I hope you like it.
Awesome Style
i I to am looking for a better dialer app for he galaxy tab and this well looks awesome.

Just decompile the app and compile it after you are done.
Not unpack and repack because you lose the sign. Resign it won't work.

I don't think Signing is required for System apps.

I thougt that all android system apps are already signed by google
Hey buddy, nice design. I think you deleted AndroidManifest.xml from /keep folder (if you use apk manager). That and META-INF folder need to remain untouched and always kept.
So, basically, use apktool 1.3.1, when compiling answer yes to both questions, delete everything from /keep folder except META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml and thats it. In worse case scenario, even if you kept AndroidManifest and META-INF and the app still doesnt show up, unpack it with some archive manager and pack it back using zero compression. Must work.
As well, if you use adb push, make sure you always delete from the phone the app/file which you wanna replace.

System applications in our case (Samsung users) are signed by Samsung using their own private key and almost all system apps share a specific UID - and we cannot sign the app with samsung's private key as we do not have it (is encrypted in CERT.RSA)
What signing does is basically creating a SHA1 checksum of all the files in the specific application. One file - MANIFEST.MF - contains simple checksums (you can generate them with any SHA1 checksum utility) and the other - CERT.SF - has "certificate aligned" (cant find a better term) checksums.
These checksums can be bypassed for all the files inside the application except for AndroidManifest.xml as this is the file which gives information to the Android system on how the app works, what permissions it needs and other specifications. No AndroidManifest/bad checksum for it (because of modification..) = no application in the launcher.
Now, you can try resigning the app but as it requires resources from different files in the system which share that ID, the chances that it will work are limited.
wow amazing explanation... never knew what the MANIFEST.MF and CERT.SF files are for?... Thank you so much Cezar

Let us know how it goes. I tried using that kitchen and it would make the apk fine, but when I'd install it and apply it in theme manager, I would get an error box saying it's missing assetts and button options to apply anyway or bummer. I applied anyway and it works, but that error bugs me.

I tried it, and it sorta works (for now).. I didn't upload anything, I just selected CM7.0.2 ROM, and then let it generate.. I didn't use all the options in the kitchen.. but the battery icon worked (sometimes goes back to the theme's (Honeybread) battery icon for some reason).. the new boot animation worked.. but the status bar icons didn't change, they stayed the same .. and I noticed the systemUI didn't install when I flashed the .zip.. I went to the kitchens thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829) and a few (i only read two pages so far) said that most worked except for the status bar icons for the Honeybread theme.. I gotta read more, but the creator(s) of the kitchen was looking in to it.
I didn't fully understand how u can make it into a theme.. can u give me some steps on how to do that? thx.
Basically what this kitchen does is replaces the original CM7's framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk, there is also a option in the upload tab to upload a theme that you want to change. I haven't really used the kitchen for CM7, as I'm a MIUI user (easier to theme). But when I used CM6 and Sense Roms, everything worked fine. My guess is that you should try uploading the files YOU have along with your theme apk where it asks you to, and not use preuploaded ones. Seeing how you're using a theme apk for your phone, and when you chose CM7 preuploaded, it doesn't include the theme you're using.

Installation instructions
You may need to rename the app.
You can install Mms.apk like a regular apk, but if you reboot your message will look like the regular mms. To make it stay: install it, move it into system/app (it will ask you to override current one so touch yes) and reboot.
I have only been able to install Phone.apk adding it to the flashable ROM
You can add them to your ROM zip so when you flash it you will have the app installed. Add them to system/app
I will make a flashable .zip soon since some app can't be installed other way.
I'm not responsible if you break your phone, install at your own risk!!

Does anyone know if these mods play well with BAMF 2.2 JB Rom? Also, is there anyway to incorporate these or some of them into Dustin's theme? Say the Cobalt theme? Reason I'm asking is because if you apply a theme, you lose all the changes and only get what's in the theme. I love his Cobalt theme and would like to have these in it as well. Is this possible?

If you install the cobalt one you won't have any problem. Since my icons are bassed on that one, the only one I noticed that have problem was the play atore one (but I'm still testing it so I will try to solve this one).
Just install the Mods and apply the theme. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP, just in case, if you notice aomething wrong report ut and I will check it.

CM10.1 Changed recents app window

Ok after a request here i decide to give it a try to create this as i wanted too and also as i see that many asked it...this is created using as base a CM10.1 custom rom i think it will work unchanged with official CM10.1 rom but i dont think it will work with any other roms like AOKP or PA,Pacman...you need to edit it a bit to make it work...
I choose chrome based windows cause pretty like that what i wanted..you can try by changing a single .png file but you may having problems with application title..cause its coded to show in the place that chrome window have space...
Anyway this is my 2nd "Theme" called it what ever you liked

The distortion on the recent apps may caused by two reasons...
1)I have changed my dpi to 268 by editing build.prop
2)I have put wrong pixels size to thumbnails

Thanks @vicino for his tutorial
Thanks @evilisto for his tutorial too
I needed both tutorials to make this work!!
Ok to make this work...
1)Follow everything on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116735
1a)6. Go to framework-res\es\values\dimens.xml and change thumbnail height and width size to:
Here it ask you to change this two values to 160 and 240 as i do but as you can see it stretces my images so you may need to play with those values a bit!!
2)After this you need to have the two files a post...and you need to take YOUR APK same xml's and compare them with mine...for this i use this, i myself only edit what different on "MINE" xmls only..i left the APK'S xmls extra stuff as it is...
3)Do the same with the 2nd xml i have upload
4)Compile your apk and check your log if you had errors on compiling..
Its not extremly difficult the key part is to compare the two xml's and edit the right stuff...its not hard but need 40-45minutes to double check all the time the code on xmls!!
Have fun!
Will this work for Xylon?
[DEVICENEXUS⁴] [ROMXYLON] [KERNELFRANCO] [RECOVERYTWRP]
Nice work
Which tool you used for compilation/decompilation?
coz mine is corrupting the apk I guess :/
Can't you just make a zip we can just flash? I'm running cm10.1 as well

Systemui is the most editable file in the rom..so all the new tweaks devs add to their roms pass through this file....my base rom is a cm10.1 with a bit of tweaks..so my systemui is a way smaller than systemui from PA and all this features are missing from PA's systemui...
