Exfat vs fat32 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a class 10 SanDisk SDXC 64gb sd card atm it's on fat32 however I am quite limited with the maximum file size of 4gb.
So what are the advantages of fat32 over Exfat and vice versa?
Currently running wanamlite with perseus kernel btw

Biggest memory card size for a2sd to work?

I remember reading something about 8 gb being the biggest card to not cause problems with a2sd. So I'd like to know whether this is true and if anyone is using a 16 or potentially even 32 gig card just fine?
I'm using a class 4 8 gb card right now and it's too small for my needs. I also wonder how much difference a higher class card would make? I hear a class 6 card is the minimum, but so far my sandisk ultra class 4 was performing ok.

Memory Card

Hello everyone,
I've been reading that a class 10 memory card would make a big difference on Xperia Arc S. What would you recommend?
Class 10, they are fast

You can't really go wrong with a class 10 sd card in my experience. Kingston, Sandisk,....
I have Samsung 16gb class 10 and is very fast!
My 16 gb class 10 is full of music, go for a 32gB better!

Have you made a partition with ext3 on 16Gb? How big it should be... Because right now I have 16Gb Kingston but my ext3 partition for the app2sd is only 1Gb which appears on the phone as 380Mb

I maybe wrong, but unless you're on a custom ROM, if you're on stock Gingerbread, i don't think you will need any partition whatsoever, as you can just use your phone to format it the card.

What format should my MicroSD card be?

As the title says, I googled alot and some say exfat is good and some say fat32 is good too im confused. What format should it be for the note 2? It is kingston 32gb class 10.

FAT32 works with pretty much everything. The big downside is it only supports files smaller than 4GB.
If you only have small files it's smart to use FAT32.
exFAT probably won't work with AOSP ROM's.

[Q] sd card format...

What format is everyone using for this tablet? I have a new SanDisk Ultra 64gb card, and I don't know if I should format to exfat or fat32...
Any advice?
Hello?
Doesn't it have to be FAT32? But in any event, if you put it in the device and it's the wrong format, the device should prompt you to reformat it automatically.
Works with exFAT. You can put larger files on exFAT over FAT32 which has a 4gb limit...
Most 64gb sd cards come pre-formatted exFAT..
Thanks!
mine Keeps rejecting the one I had in my note 2 Exfut should work though

Use your tablet to format the card. I think it will format exfat.

Good to hear. If you get an adaptor you can actually run (theoretically) up to 2 Tb sd cards. I have a 128Gb sd card attached, via a micro sd to sd adaptor, and am waiting for my 256Gb sd cards to arrive...
Got the adaptor here if interested - http://linitx.com/product/sdmicro-to-sd-card-adapter/11922

What the hell are you talking about man? The card reading aspects are not really based on hardware as you think. The larger the card, you'd need to have higher buffer + accessing speed. You can improve those by various software techniques. And most systems that say it supports 32gb can read 64 gb just fine. problem is in some rare cases there is a possibility of the card data getting corrupted and you'd have to format it in extreme cases. Generally what happens is that access is a bit slower that the card may not perform to its class4class6/class10.1 or whatsoever specified seeds.
(As far as I know).
Using 64 GB Strontium .
I ll explain all of it to u........our device , by default (atleast in MiUi 5), does not support exFat format thats generally used in 64 GB cards cuz it shows unsupported format in MiUi...solution is to format it with FAT32 (using a 3rd party tool or in phone if it permits formatting 64 GB card) . Moreover, Windows default tool wont format anything larger than 32 gig with FAT32.
Alternatively, CyanogenMod port for out phones support exFat format.....i highly recommend it over FAT32 because of 4 GB file size limitation of FAT32 . I ve seen a guy using 128 GB card with no issues .
In a nutshell, format with FAT32 for max compatibility, and use exFat if u ll store files larger than 4 GB in the card . Personally, i use exFat .
Finally, here is my card

The Redmi 1s boxes does state 64gb card support on the Chinese wcdma version that I have. But the usual windows format utility cannot format cards/drives >32gb. The workaround is to use 3rd party tools to format 64gb cards. But fat32 is still limited to individual 4gb file sizes.
Search for utilities by googling for "3rd party fat32 format utility" or something similar.
So i got my ans ..!! Thanx for all of users efforts with the images to prove it..!! as i knew that 1s supports 64gb cards but i just wanted to be sure before investing more 2k for card..... thank you :good:
