Cannot connect to network - - have tried all suggestions on forums - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey everyone, I have a T-mobile T989 being used on the AWS 1700 Mobilicity network in Canada. I just purchased the phone from ebay and I am having difficulty getting any signal. I can connect for about 10 seconds and then it drops signal. I went to a location right by a mobi tower and I did get some signal there, so something is causing my phone to have a VERY weak signal.
It's not a Mobilicity signal issue as my other phones have perfect reception and signal with the same sim put into them. A lot of the time I can't even find the mobi network.
Things I've tried:
1) Installed all radios listed on the forum
2) Checked APN
3) Rooted and tried CM10 plus Jedi knight roms
4) tried a bunch of little random tidbits I've found over searching the forums for the past week (permissions, wipes etc)
5) WCDMA 1700 band selected
Nothing seems to work at all, could this be a hardware issue?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I've spent day and night over the past week attacking every software related tip I could find, but no luck so far so I'm starting to think hardware. The phone does not have warranty

I have a quick question; did you buy the phone already rooted? When you said you unrooted the phone, you mean you brought the phone to factory stock? Well anyway I have Jedi jelly also, what version are you running, I know 3 doesn't work. All Jedi for me at least won't give me signal for the first five minutes.

Sorry that was a typing error, I meant I rooted the phone, the phone arrived to me in stock form and wasn't getting signal.
Jedi Mind Trick X3
CM10 4.0 stable
T-mobile 4.04
Those are the ROM's I tried, it's the same for all of them, I have tried to leave the phone overnight to see if it picks up signal eventually, but no luck so far with that either.
Thanks for your response.

did you try to odin to stock and go from there yet?

I'm sorry to say you might have to clam a false item description with eBay and PayPal to get your money back. It sounds like it stopped working before you received it.

It arrived to me stock so I didn't try to odin back to stock. Would it have any effect flashing a stock phone with stock again?
I will try it out anyway since there's no harm in trying.

I got signal in the public library parking lot and could access data aswell at super slow speeds. As soon as I move positions it drops signal.
Looks like my best bet is to just buy another one and avoid the headaches, my only concern is if someone knowingly sold a defective phone they will probably put up a fight when I try to return it.

does the same sim card work fine in other phones?
Can you get a new sim card and try that? If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to try next. Maybe install TWRP and run the superwipe script and flash a new radio and stock rom.

Yup the simcard works totally fine in my blackberry. I tried my friends Rogers simcard in the T989 and it did not work either.
I am going to flash an older ROM onto the phone 2.x.x next to see how it goes and then back to stock if that doesn't work.
I caught 3G using UVLE1, but that only lasted about 30 seconds haha.

3G PROBLEMS (donate for help if i have too)

So i have rooted my phone a while back, and been flashing new roms back and fourth , but not sure why recently after a couple of weeks, i have seen my 3g signal drop without me doing anything, on the same places were i usually get perfect 3g signal,
i updated the radios to recent ones, update the profile , PRL profile etc so see if these was the problem that 3g drops all the time,
so i have flash myths , cya mods roms, MIUI , and evry other sense roms like HD SACS and fresh evo etc and i even try AOSP roms to see if the sense roms was the problem, but with AOSP Roms it even drops more,
example of what i mean:
i will be using the internet were it takes forevr to load cuz 3g dont kick in,
than out of no where 3g works perfectly for like 5 to 10 mins,
than after a while i try to use any application that uses internet like facebook, pandora, youtube etc, the 3g starts acting up and doesnt kick in , does this evry other 10 mins which its annoying the crap out of me.
PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME I WILL EVEN DONATE $20 TO 30 BUCKS FOR YOUR TIME BY PAYPAL.
NOT SURE WHAT OTHER OPTIONS I HAVE, AND I REALLY DONT WANT TO REPLACE MY PHONE AND IM PRETTY SURE I CANT BRING IT TO SPRINT TO FIX IT CUZ ITS ROOTED, OR CAN I?
THANKS
Here is the best thing to try for starters.
Start completely fresh.
Download this zip
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ikylelx99c49133/Calkulin's_FORMAT_ALL.zip
flash that zip from recovery and it will format everything without a doubt.
Then flash a rom like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=874251
stock rooted ruu - simple and no modifications.
If you are still having issues after this, then it is possible that you are having hardware issues.
It wouldn't hurt to try updating your radios as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 - the combo one at the top should get them all.
+1 those are the best suggestions than I think can be given to help with your situation. I had the same problem on my hwd 003 evo sent it in and got a hwd 004 speeds were better I think it was a hwd problem cause I couldn't find a fix.

so i use it over the weekend, and after a day it starting acting up again, i was happy when it work almost for a full day and than it starting acting up where 3g wasnt kicking in, thanks for ur advise and i guess i have to replace this evo.
you might wanna try going to a Sprint store with service center, maybe they can figure it out there, as you've basically tried everything one can do at home to try and fix it, and are still having problems.

Here's one to accompany that. It may not even be your phone. Call *2 and ask if they are having network issues in your area. Mine was doing the same thing after a storm (we had tornaders...yes, tornaders...live with it). It was back up withing 48 hours, then again, I reported the issue.
I'm sure they have some pretty good monitoring systems in place; however, if the guys behind the NOC are anything like the guys here at my work...well I won't say anything, but you can piece together the picture.

nobody else i know have 3g issues, because i have ask my friends with evo's and my roommate to let me see there evo and check if the sprint network just acting up, but is not cuz there phone is running good. but it seems like i start getting normal 3g signal when i first flash a rom, than after a couple of hours or a day it start acting up, its annoying as hell cuz i could be in the middle of doing something during the day and when i need my phone to work with 3g, it start acting up,
thanks though for the suggestion, not sure if rooting the phone would effect the signal problem,

Just because you see it drop to 1x doesn't mean anything. That means that sense doesn't want you to know about it. so there is no icon for 1x since aosp is different and doesn't lie it tells you the truth. I thought things like this from time to time until I did this. Flashed stock. Speedtest... sat in the same spot flashed CM, speedtest. Both were about the same.. some tests were faster on CM then sense and some were faster on sense then CM. I get my email... and my market downloads never fail... So I can't really complain.

Help me, Signal Problems - 3 UK

I got a 3 PAYG sim last month for the all you can eat data plan. It was working perfectly for 3 weeks, full signal. I used CM7 RC1 for a while however after a smooth start the number of forced closes began driving me mad.
My 3 signal indoors just disappeared all together one day this week. I decided to change ROM and did a full clean install of JokerDroid 4.2. (not because I thought CM7 was causing any signal issues, just the force closes and thought I'd try something new)
I have Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband version 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10
Kernel Version 2.6.32.39-nFinity
Build number 2.37.415.1
My problem is my signal and I don't know whether it's 3 or the phone. Indoors I have nothing, occasionally 1 bar at best. Outside, it works fine. My phone randomly decides I am roaming and gives me a full signal with a little R sign indoors.
I have also noticed that where previously in CM7 it said I was connected to 3, in JokerDroid 4.2 it says 3G-3.
My Girlfriend also got a 3 sim card at the same time as me and she has a nokia 6303c, She has experienced no problems and continues to have full signal everywhere. I switched sims between phones, mine works perfectly in her phone and hers doesn't work in mine.
Can anyone suggest what is happening here? Is my phone broken? is it a 3 problem? is there a simple fix?
I have searched a forum for 3 and there seems to be a lot of compaints about 3 switching off 2g coverage, could this be the problem? The threads where a few months ago and I don't know if this explains the difference between the wildfire and the nokia either.
Any help much obliged.

Done that.
I searched the forum and someone had suggested that but nothing changed.
I am thinking of wiping everything again in recovery, flashing the radio and then flashing the rom.
I just wish I knew for sure it was the phone and not 3. I will try a different network provider asap.

I thought so to but I was really pleased with it. It has only just happened in the past week that it is not working however it works great on an older nokia phone.
Going to try a clean install again even though I'm not convinced it will help.
Any luck?

[Q] Having Signal Issues with UK GSM Galaxy Nexus on TMO Network

I've been reading this forum for the past two days trying to see if there is a similar thread with this issue. Please point me in the right direction if there is a similar thread resolving this issue (this forum is colossal!).
I recently bought a UK version GSM Galaxy Nexus running Modaco 4.0.2 Ir8. I'm using it on T-Mobile's network (The GN is replacing my HTC Sensation).
The gentleman that sold it to me had already unlocked, rooted, and flashed it with Modaco. It works blazing fast. The only thing is that when ever I make a phone call it literally drops in less than 5 minutes. The signal seems to be switching like crazy from 3G to HSPA+ as well.
I've called TMO and they have no clue what the issue is (4 different reps told me 4 different things from needing to factory reset to the towers being down etc.).
Again the phone works great besides the fact that I can't make a phone call for more than a couple of minutes before it drops.
Has anyone seen this with their GN? Is it the phone? The Mod? Are T-Mobile's towers not able to pick up this phone's radios because it's from the UK?
How can I go about fixing this (Factory reset? etc.)? I'm literally about to factory reset this thing this morning when I get home from work.
I don't really have too much experience as far as rooting goes but willing to learn and get this issue resolved.
What radio version are you using?
I'm on T-Mobile and xxkk6 works well for me.
If you don't know what you have, I suggest u go to the dev section and start reading for a while
xxkk6 at the least should be on there. i think there is xxkl7 possibly. the xxkk6 is the stock radio, but if there is a kk7 or kl7 might want to try that as it would be a later version.
How can I tell which radio version I'm on and does it give me the option to switch it?

Thanks for sending me that link. Which baseband set up would be good for the US (NYC specifically). They all look like they are designed for European areas.
And once I put in my Sim card, why didn't the phone just figure out with Radioband to attach itself to?

Basebands beginning with UG are for north America. I think there are a couple of threads in the dev section about UG basebands, it might be worth have a look at those.

Thanks for the link. After reading through a couple of pages I'm starting to realize that I have no idea what the hell is going on with switching radio bands. Even worse, I have not read about any instances where one or the other will work very well in NYC (my area).
Is there a grid which shows which radio band is for which area? Anyone know of anywhere that shows the step by way to do this?

I appreciate that. Will be looking into it later this morning when I get off work.
For anyone who had to do this process: Is this a normal thing when rooting and flashing, to have to find a better baseband etc.? Is it because my phone is a UK version that TMO is having an issue dropping my calls?
And lastly, anyone know what the best baseband/radio is suitable for NYC? And why doesn't the phone just figure out which is the best baseband?

the baseband should work. it's gsm, the world standard. but i'm guessing since i don't know exactly what is tweaked, but that the specific baseband for your region will bias your phone for the known networks. ugkk7 works great for me. atnt. i think there is a ugkl6 or 7. sometimes you have to test them. some will work better for others. some will work great and not eat battery. if it eats battery, try another one. i think samsung is decent about releasing different radios for different regions. it can be confusing. now when it's comes to updating their roms, that is a different story.
Ok,
The baseband def has to be affecting my battery. I'm getting not even 10 hours on a full charge from moderate use.
I don't really know exactly what the first owner did to it, only what he told me.
My plan is to bring it back to factory settings (found an article about how to restore the GSM version, but have yet to find any youtube videos abou it....I only see LTE videos on rooting and unrooting, and I'm not sure if it's the same process so I'm not touching those).
If that doesn't help it then I'll go about flashing and changing the baseband.
Again this whole baseband business is really new to me. The input you guys have been giving so far is much appreciated.

Update:
Ended up coming home early from work and staying up all morning trying to figure this out. I decided on using this link first: (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/restore-galaxy-nexus-to-stock-how-to/)
to re-lock. That took about 4 hours of troubleshooting and getting to know the lingo and terminology. Then from a combination of other youtube videos I spent another 4 hours trying to figure out how to lock the bootloader. Believe it or not the Xda link about this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) saved me from losing my mind. I literally didn't go to sleep until I made sure I brought the phone back to factory settings.
After I finally got the phone back to factory settings (believe me, it wasn't fun figuring this out especially when I've never rooted before) I noticed the wifi wasn't working, or had a very weak signal. Content with the phone at least being back on factory settings and locked, I go to sleep and wake up today seeing the same issue with the wifi (mean while, I now have good signal/service...didn't even have to mess with the baseband radio config).
I restart the router in our house and power down the phone and restart. Problem fixed.
Not really sure why or how, but bringing the phone back to factory settings seems to make it work just as fast as it worked when Modaco Ir8 4.0.2 was on it. Except now I have amazing Service signal.
I can honestly state that rooting really isn't for me especially with the notion that with every new mod that comes out you have to be flashing on a constant basis. Even though I almost lost my mind trying to figure this out, I would still rather have this approach vs Apple's walled garden approach though. Any day.
One of the reasons I like the Nexus line of phones is that it's pretty much the only Android phone that gets all the updates first and on a constant basis. Which makes it such an awesome phone in that it's also the phone that Google allows any and all capabilities to be customized. I have true respect for all the devs out there who attack this stuff daily.
Just be sure to get enough exercise in and healthy meals along with rest lol.

some people actually recommend factory resetting your device from the get go. i would, but i always just run with the hardware just to make sure the hardware and stress i throw at it will handle all the roms and stuff. and to exchange my phone if finding there is a problem.
Good to hear that you got it sorted out in the end

Rooting/Flashing is great IMO for people who will never have the luxury of getting updates like Nexus phones get. Take control in your own hands on when you decide you want to update(s) etc.
I'm sure any Devs out there (like on this forum) also love tinkering. To each his own.

Indeed. I def learned a lesson: Never let anyone ever root your phone for you. The guy who rooted it for me was nice enough to say I could email him for questions but the more I kept emailing him the more I could tell he was probably getting frustrated at all my worrisome questions ("I'm dropping calls", "Is it because of the rooting?", "My wifi isn't working", "is it because of the rooting?..." etc.).
Just glad to know there are tons of available options for one to seek out help when issues like this arise.

No Network Signal After Flash to 4.1 on Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Thanks.

Was this an OTA uprade? If you did an manual upgrade, you should make a backup before going forward.
Are you sure you used the correct ROM? Cross-flashing between a Toro/Maguro/Toro+ will often have the phone but up but with the radios not working
did you check your apn?
I just bought this phone on Thursday and the bestbuy rep had the same problem on two different phones and had to call the Verizon help desk. She managed to get it working and of course my signal went in and out as soon as I left the parking lot. I went home and immediately rooted and flashed 4.1 and had the same issue. I was on the phone with tech support and they couldn't find the problem.
I then did a quick search online and found that this is a common issue. The problem is that when updating to 4.0.4 the galaxy nexus has a hard time with the 4g connection. It then drops to 3g and then it realizes 4g is available and switches back just to start this never ending cycle. This causes a signal to be held for seconds at a time before dropping completely until it switches to the other.
The temp fix is to disable LTE and run your phone on CDMA full time. This worked for me and I have constant signal everywhere. Eventually I know a patch will arrive so I'm content with 3g for the time being.
What puzzles me is how come this doesn't happen to everyone? Its a big enough issue that I found the solution within 3min of searching for a fix but not big enough for Verizon to be aware of.

I have the same issue. it burns your battery as well by switching back and forth. I used to leave my nexus uncharged at night and the sleep mode would allow it to only lose a a few percentages but now if i leave 4g on with 50 percent battery.. Its almost alway dead when I wake up
Sad to say I have the same experience
The story told by mclaughlin47 is almost exactly what happened with me. Even rooted and running BAMF Paradigm 2.1, I still have the same problem. If anyone knows of a way to fix this, please let us know.
I can't believe Verizon isn't aware of this problem. I actually had better battery life and signal with my Thunderbolt running Vicious ROM. I may just be returning mine if I don't hear of a solution soon.
Thanks for any help, cause this is ridiculous!
I am rooted now, but even on stock ICS I was getting a problem where my radios just die. Requires a reboot to fix. But when I was seeing it, they always looked fine. You don't know they died until you try to use data or make a call.
Do you still have your imei

I saw the same issue with ics and jb roms. Tried several radios but always dropped data and voice when using 4g. From what I've been reading, it's a hardware defect.
Mine also works great and stays connected all the time when I leave it in cdma mode. Went back to my rezound since 3g mode there at least still let's me use data while talking on the phone. I like showering in as much radiation as I can

Reflash the radio and the cdma radio. Samsung and Verizon Wireless both claim that hardware defects are not known issues.
Which hardware revision do you have? (looks on the label on the back should be 11.11, 11.12, or 12.0.)
i have 12.01
will try reflashing the latest radios

Have the same exact issue...just upgraded to a jelly bean Rom and my data drops completely and I barely have a signal, did a super wipe (radio-rom-Gnapps)...and went to my old rom of ICS and I still have the same problem...but for the most part I barely have any type of signal and calls are dropping, called Verizon and they told me something about a switch, and that there is no problem in ur area....I just called last night, I'm gonna call back today...wish there was a solution ...also tried that 3G switch I just read earlier and I still have a poor signal
Any updates? I'm having the same problem
Hi,
I'm having the same issue. I've had my Nexus for about a month now and have had nothing but horrible signal issues, while my old Droid 2 gets fantastic signal.
I'm using the latest Bugless Beast 4.1.1 with the latest radios that were released today.
People have mentioned it being a hardware defect. I'm assuming I should just go back to stock ICS and go into Verizon and exchange it for a different Nexus?
It may very well be a hardware problem, but my thought was a SIM card problem for the reason that rebooting often does not solve the problem for me. I have a passcode on my SIM card, so if my phone doesn't ask me to enter the code then I can assume it doesn't see the card. This often happens when I encounter the loss of data problem and reboot, and I usually have to remove the SIM card and fiddle with it a bit and put it back in and then it reconnects.
So I went to the Verizon store to try and swap my SIM card and they wouldn't give me a new card, saying that it's a known software issue that Samsung has already attempted to fix twice and they are working on another OTA update. I obviously made a ruckus about how I'm paying for service I can't access and I want a different device, blah, blah, blah. Basically he was incredibly unhelpful.
I've been on ICS AOKP and recently switched over the CM10 JB and that's when the problems started for me, but I switched because some type of battery issue (it lasted about 3 hours for a few days) caused my phone to reset itself and erase everything so it seemed like a good time to upgrade. So I may have unique hardware issues going on but according to vzw it is software-based. I'm not sure if this is something that can/will be addressed in a new nightly if that's the case.
PEOPLE, IT'S NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM! IT'S SIMPLY A RADIO.IMG PROBLEM! A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO IS ON ICS, BUT FLASHED LATEST RADIO ARE SUFFERING FROM THIS!
What you can do is just flash to a older radio image. Not that hard. Will this stop the OTA? Probably, but you can either flash the latest version back or just manually flash it.
Have a good day.
I got mine the first week of Aug at Best Buy. The first one I got had all the problems described above. Radios dropping out and dropping every call I made. I returned it the next day, and the sales guy told me he was 100% sure it wasn't the phone. I asked him to exchange the phone and the card because I couldn't use a phone that couldn't make calls. He did the exchange, and the second phone was actually worse. Most of the time, I could not even make a call. So, the next day I took that one back. They gave me a third one that worked great for a week, then I started getting a no SIM card error message. The phone would reboot and work again for about 3 hours, then repeat error message. I took the card out, wiped down all the contacts with a soft cloth, and I have had no problems since. Great reception, no dropped calls. Great phone. I don't know if it is hardware or software, but I would keep returning the phone until you get one that works!
Once again, what is the point of having a phone that can't make calls.

Silly me not sure what I did

So today I bought a new Note 2 (SGH-i317M) on Bell Mobility Canada, as I was having issues with my first one. The first one had been rooted, and had a couple different roms on it. The last week or so my reception has been atrocious and constantly in "emergency calls only" mode, so I said "forget it" get a new one, send in the old one and sell it to my buddy when it gets back.
I managed to get a stock recovery and a stock rom on the old Note 2 using Samsung Galaxy Note2 Toolkit. Now, this is where it goes wonky and not sure what happened.
Upon initially getting the stock rom (4.1.1) on it, I noticed another update in the notification tray. At this point my SIM card has been pulled and I am using only wifi on it. I jumped on the update thinking cool my device isn't "modified" anymore, so I will take this update ( to 4.1.2)
After doing that update, I looked in my app drawer and it has 6 or 7 Roger's bloat apps in it, and the kernel version was different. Otherwise baseband, build and Android version are the same Not sure if it happened when I installed the stock rom from the Toolkit process or if the Roger's apps came with the OTA update to 4.1.2.
The problem is, this makes it hard to take a phone back to Bell for repairs with Roger's system apps in it. I've tried flashing the stock rom from the Toolkit via Odin again but there is still Roger's bloat there.
I have no idea what to do now. I pretty much used up all my brain power today getting this far. Could someone point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it greatly.
Thanks ahead of time for any responses, I've been at this most of the day now and I am just out of ideas now. :silly:
If you are getting rogers apps in a fresh flash via Odin...then you likely have the wrong rom being flashed....(it happens)
Look in the "Everything thread" in the development section for the stock bell firmware. this is the bell stock firmware from the thread...I pulled it for you...http://www.hotfile.com/dl/180165074/47da708/I317MVLALJ2_I317MOYAALJ2_RWC.zip.html
That rom is the link from the everything thread...
You are the second user this week that has flashed a mis-labeled rom from the kit...
Once bell is flashed, your rogers apps will go away...
Remember to wipe all data and caches in the stock recovery before booting the new rom....g
U need to change ur csc, all stock Canadian fw is the same... it will show bell bloat till u enter the proper csc.

Thanks so much guys. This experience has really stumped me.
I did however manage to get this sorted in the mean time. I installed a custom recovery back in, did a full system wipe the put in a rom that supports Canadian variants (tell ya the truth can't even remember it's name) and in that install process it had an aroma installer. One of the options was to adjust CSC for your desired carrier. After I set it up, I started the intitial process of wiping, and flashing and such over and voila I had all Bell apps and no Rogers apps.
But, in the meantime, the wifi decided to do its hanging thing again and for the last 3 hours or so I have been trying to get Triangle Away running on it. The app requires more data to work with my phone, but as this phone doesn't have a registered SIM and the wifi wont start now I have to manage a way to get it working, reset my binary count, unroot and verify and be done with it.
I greatly appreciate your guys input and will be reading as much as possible. Generally I can go flash crazy with custom roms but Odin messes me up.
I hope others see this thread and don't do what I did, and learn about CSC before they get hung up. Thanks again guys.
p.s. my brain hurts
OK. I officially give up. This 5 month old phone is going in the garbage. If it isn't one thing, it's another. Managed to get the wifi (and BT which I didn't know at first wasnt working) by inserting my new phones SIM. Blam, both worked. Great, now I can install Triangle Away, do my thing, reflash the stock firmware and I'm good.
And now.............the Toolkit won't recognize ADB enabled. I have been at this for over 24 hours now and it's been one roadblock after another.
I am officially McGyver'ed out :crying:
Idk what ur doing wrong but, doing a freash install should fix ur issues..

Right on. Ya I kinda gathered my thoughts and buckled down and started over. So, now I have what appears be the proper firmware on my older Note 2.
Version: 4.1.1
baseband: i317MVLAJ2
kernel: 3.0.31-262790 / [email protected] #1 / SMP PREEMPT wed Oct 3 ........2012
build: JRO03C.I317MVLAJ2
Device Status: Normal
It seems like the exact same software as when I first cracked my new one out the box. After I updated it, the newer one now has:
Version: 4.1.2
baseband: I317MVLBMA3
kernel: 3.0.31-262790 / [email protected] #1 / SMP PREEMPT wed Oct 3..........2012
build: JZ054K.I317MVLBMA3
Pretty sure I got all the numbers right lol.
Still trying to figure out what to do now for Triangle Away, and making this phone seem like it's never been touched. Thanks for your help so far.

CF Root. OK I will check it out. Thank you ! I will let ya know how it goes. I appreciate this as it just seems like there is just way too much Note 2 info out there. Thanks for the filter lol !
Update. Well that did it. In the "Download" screen it is saying;
-Custom binary download: No
-Current Binary: Samsung Official
-System Status: Official
In Settings, the device status is Normal
As far as my research has gotten me, my understanding is that I should now be able to send it in with out any warranty issues. My wifi and BT are acting hinky again but I may try my SIM swap again and see if that helps, before I send it away.
Thank you so much for your help. That suggestion of CF Auto-Root helped big time!!!!!
No problem. . Get some rest and hit it up in the morning. .

Next time you are flashing stock rom for your phone just use rom from link below so you dont need to worry about rooting after. Roms are root injected already and good to go.

Nice ! Ya I found the same root injected bell rom but unfortunately it was after I wanted to uninstall and unroot. I will be taking this approach from now on. Thank you good sir!!
I appreciate everyone's patience because I was certainly runnIngl out of it . Going to get the old Note 2 packed up and shipped off sometime today. Again all help greatly appreciated guys .
To add to my ordeal going on now, I did notice that my first Note 2 was made in China, and feels sloppy. Like the battery is slightly loose, and like the assembly just doesn't feel tight. I had to slip a piece of folded paper in behind the battery as the phone always rebooted even just gently dropping it on the table.
My brand new Note 2 I noticed was made in Korea. The battery is seated much, much better, and the phone itself feels like it was put together in a factory, not a car garage.
I am wondering if this is what is going on, because today after messing with the old one (which is now OTA'd to 4.1.2 *thanks again guys!*), and having the same persistent wifi hanging issue (not turning on and not really turning off, just suspended) and BT not wanting to turn on, alongside its original problem of poor cell reception......I thought I wonder if something is just hinky/loose or whatever. So I picked the phone up, dropped it flat on its back (in a case lol) from about 8 inches in the air, onto my coffee table. Opened the notification tray, and tapped the wifi toggle and it instantly turn on, bright lime and I was able to see available networks. The BT turned on immediately after pressing it too. Can't speak on cell signal, and it may well just be coincidence, but after several wipe/flash processes and BT and wifi acting hinky across several factory resets etc, then immediately working after the drop.......strange indeed.
More convinced now than ever that I have had somewhat of a lemon the whole time as I have had weird issues with reception for a long time from in the house to out in the world. The phone has never been seriously dropped and anytime it did slip it was in an Urban Armor Gear case, screen is near mint (didnt have protector first week) , and should be absolutely zero water damage.

Well, I was thinking that, but seeing it's under warranty, I am going to see what happens at Samsung. Hopefully they don't have some new way of seeing its been customed *face palm* lol and just replace it, even if its with a working factory rebuild or whatever. As I had to purchase both devices out right, and I live in Canada, I may be able to buy a car with the money.......holy crap its expensive up here.
Nearly $800 for each one. Ridiculous lol
EDIT: It would be a crappy car, but a car none the less
Ya , im up in canada also.. mine was 840 when it first came out. I payed it right out and unlocked it.
Mind u my build quality is excellent, maybe except for the sqeeky back.
But no problems none the less.

Ya it is just ridiculous the costs up here, and I live up in northern BC so everything is just a little more than everywher else as expensive at it is already, UGH !
I wonder if there is a new batch shipped because like I said, the one I bought 5 months ago was made in China, and like you say "squeeky". Loose. And big difference in at least mobile data / cell radio performance between my two devices.
This new one made in Korea, even the older battery slides in nice and tight. No squeaky back. Just feels tighter, even the S-Pen. It was always kind of loose on the older Note and even tossing the phone onto the table sometimes dislodged it. Even my camera lense on my older one seemed like it was mounted weird. I'd prefer stuff domestic if possible but I sure notice a difference between the Korean manufactured and the Chinese manufactured.
But I have a feeling I may be sending it back right away if service is as useless as it is everywhere else nowadays. I noticed after getting home on the work order it says
Wifi not connecting
BT not connecting
etc
Well, it was not that BT or wifi wouldn't connect. They connect to my devces/network immediately, BUT if and only if they actually turn on. The toggle stays half lit, and the wifi would say "turning on" then simply shut off a minute later. And the BT just wouldn't turn on at all, UNTIL I "dropped fixed" them this morning.
She also forgot to add that the S-Pen is totally haywire. I think that may be simply a sensitivy calibration issue I could maybe fix myself from YouTube vids I've seen. Just never got to it with other issues. I just hope the tech that checks it isnt as useless as I am picturing them in my mind and they show initiative and actually check the whole phone. Dream on I'm thinking HA !

I have to agree Valkillmore, northern BC has horrible pricing. I have had mine since January on Telus and also had strange problems with the radios.
My wireless randomly drops my home wifi signal, regardless of which frequency it uses. This started just the other day and I actually hadn't done any flashing or updates in a few days. Seems strange that it would start now.
