[Q] Wrong HDMI "resolution" on any tv/monitor I tried! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello.
I am using a genuine Samsung HDMI adapter and for some reason I am unable to get a correct "screen resolution". The same happens with my Note1. The image is too big for the screen and the top/bottom parts are always cut. I have tried this in over 8 different monitors/tvs. I am running a stock international rom port. Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Maybe change ur tv resolution from aspect ratio to widescreen or full or ?

Might try different hdmi csbles, if you haven't already. And what mode is it in when you see the screen cutoff ? Ie 1080i instead of 1080p?

The 1080i and 1080p wouldn't make a difference. It only changes the way the image is refreshed on the screen. 1080p is clearer but would not make bars or screw with resolution. The resolution is still 1920x1080 on both.

i just noticed this only happens when u record on 1080p i feels like its more zoomed in.. kinda weird.
Its the 1080p feature. 720p looks perfectly fine or even better.
I do a lot of video recording and at 1080p it looks to be 1:1 ratio.
Most of us are used to recording at lower resolutions which have a different ratio.
It threw me off at first too.

You're right, mine does that as well, and once I change it to 720, it zooms back out.
Anyone think this could be fixed with a rom?

Just noticed this myself!
On 1080p it looks zoomed in.
On 720p depending which way you shoot it it looks good, but when you rotate the phone and it switches to different viewing screen it looks zoomed in.
Hercules, Hercules!!
A review (forgot which) mentioned the 1080p uses another sensor in the lens whereas 720p uses the wide? Totally misquoted but tldr: its hardware based. Just stand back a bit.

Engadget just posted that the Japanese carrier KDDI will be getting it's own SGS II variant with a WiMax radio, very similar to the Sprint Epic 4G Touch, except with a 1280 x 720 display and a 1.4GHz processor. My question is, would it be possible for the display driver from that device be modified and ported over to work with our device? Thanks in advance!

We would need to replace the physical hardware
Why's that? It's the same screen, just different drivers. We have the possibility for a 720p display, with the appropriate drivers.

Or you could "ghetto rig" your "dpi" and do something like "160" as your density. Personally, I prefer 220.

could be the same screen with different VGA adapter

This is embarrassing...
The E4GT only has a 480*800 screen. There are physically only 800 pixels in each column, and 480 in each row. You can set the dpi on the phone to a lower value to simulate a higher resolution, but it's impossible to make the screen any sharper (higher actual resolution).
You can set it up by being rooted and installing BusyBox and LCD Resolution and adjusting the DPI to 160 from 240. Though, in my honest opinion, it doesn't look very good.
Haha ya the japanese version is 4.7" screen for one and #2 our screen has far less physical pixels
EDIT- OP have you given the app "LCD Density" a try? It works best with ADW launcher or GO launcher or else things dont resize correctly. Honestly i have mine all the way down too 160 which is equal too 720p. It took a bit to get used to it but after a few days i cant beleive how ridiculous the stock size font it... I liked 200 better but i couldnt download from Android Market because that setting size doesnt translate into a native android resolution. I cant go back after using my phone for a week+ at 720p (not really 720p but its equivalent)

I just dont see how you thought a 4.5 inch and a 4.7 inch screen were the same exact screen.
*facepalm* sorry about that, thanks for clearing that up

1. remove the 4.5" screen
2. fit in 2 x 1800mAh batteries in that space
3. wire up the 4.7" screen & tape it on top of those batteries
4. double profit...

my personal favorite is 190. then make go launcher do 6 by 4 for your apps. you can fit so many apps on one screen its great! you are going to have to replace the dialer because it wont scale right and some market apps wont install from the market unless you go back to stock resolution.

HD Netflix?

Quality is usually adjusted on the fly but being a phone that in portrait only has 480 lines of resolution I wouldn't expect it to offer streaming 720P plus anyways. Watching on Wifi or good 4G should come up great but bad connections and 3g it will come out overly compressed.
Resolution is one issue and bitrate is another. The bitrate is adjusted based on connection speed to prevent buffering.

You probably won't on such a small screen but its the only solution that I can give to the question. Our screens aren't even HD anyway.

Using tubemate I can notice the difference between 480 all the way to 1080 easily and even on he fastest wifi there's no difference between the settings in android app
A big difference in ps3 app tho
I wish ps3 and android Alps had very own settings for quality like hulu plus apps do

Agreed. I think that netflix looks great on our screen considering the size. Definitely have to stream over wifi, sprint just isn't fast enough otherwise. Perhaps going over 3g is leading to poor display quality

MHL display question

Hello-
I am interested in hooking up my SGS2 to my car display for nav etc. Here is my question: Does the MHL output on the SGS2 automatically force the display to landscape mode regardless of the phone's orientation? In other words does the phone's display stay in portrait and the MHL display go to landscape?
Thanks

Only videos go in landscape, but you could down load rotation control app and set it to what you like

Black border in camera app?

How do I get rid of this? I know there's an easy fix to make it be full screen again but I can't remember it for the life of me.

Actually the 13 MP setting causes that black frame. When you set your resolution from the camera settings to 10MP (Wide) it should be fine.

The reason being is because 13mp has 4:3 ratio and 10mp has a higher ratio (16:9 if I remember correctly) thus the 'view finder' reflects that.

Exactly.
Thanks! It was driving me nuts that I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. I guess I'll stick with the 10mp mode as I really don't like the black borders.

They aren't "borders" those black bars are caused by the different ratio of the image as I mentioned above. This week happen in all camera apps so unfortunately it looks like you will be stuck using 10mp if you don't like the black space.
