Koodo T989D custom roms - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

i have a rooted Koodo SG S2X i tried flashing CM9 and CM10 and a couple other roms for the T-mobile version but even following the instructions still leads me to get stuck on boot. i have let it load for like 15 minutes before restarting it. just sits at the boot animation.
is thier anything i could be doing wrong during the flashing process?
i have cwm recovery running 4.0.4 koodo stock rom (of course)

Most of the ROMs requires the latest version of CWM, make sure you update to that.
However I would suggest the TWRP recovery it is pretty solid:

Re koodo T989D stuck on boot
1 - Launch Odin by double clicking the Odin3 v1.85 file. Plug your USB cable to your computer but not your phone.
2 - Power off your phone. Then hold down both volume buttons and plug the USB cable into your phone. (Telus: hold volume down and power button). Press the volume up button You will then go to the download screen.
3 - Wait for the Com port in Odin to turn yellow as in the picture. You do not need to check anything that isn't already. Just be sure that Re-Partition is NOT checked. The default setting is not checked so it should be blank.
4 - Select PDA in Odin and browse to the rom file you downloaded and extracted. Select it. Now press Start and Odin will flash the stock rom. When it is finished you will see a green PASS in the top section. It should take about 7 minutes.
5 - Odin will reboot your phone and you can unplug it. You will probably get some errors and force closes. Its normal. Proceed to step 6.
6 - Power off your phone again. Hold both volume buttons and the power button at the same time. When the phone vibrates, let go of the power button but keep holding both volume buttons. In a few seconds you should be in the recovery menu. Use volume buttons to move up/down and power button to select. *if power button doesn't work, use your home key*. Go to wipe data/factory reset and select it. Next, select format cache partition. Now select reboot. Enjoy your new stock rom.

wipe your phone
did you wipe your phone before installing? if not, it may will cause the boot loop/stuck.

Man I'm seeing a lot of people recommend not to use CWM. I've used CWM 5.0.2.6 exclusively and haven't had any issues so far. Should I be concerned and switch?

Cwm is a great recovery. But it does not get along with the Hercules at all! It took some getting used to because I swore by Cwm on all my other phones. But now that I use twrp, I replaced Cwm with it completely. Never gives me a hard time.
One more thing, don't extract the image file when using odin. Odin looks for zipped files like .tar and stuff so if you extract it you won't be able to find it lol

did You tried another ROM ?
I had this kind of issue in the past when mixed up different kernel, rom and speedmod or something. Just try download stable ROM from XDA and try to flash step by step via ODIN.
I'm sure You be successful.
Calm down it is not bricked it is not working because given above.
HERE You have list of workin ROM list. Now I'm on Debus and recomend it.
Flash Stock Froyo Software with Odin
Flash the XXXJPU again with ODIN.
You have to Press Vol Down + Home + Start Button.
Then open Odin.
Connect Your Samsung Handy to PC
If Odin doesn't recognize your Handy, download the samsung USB driver
If you successfull flashed the XXXJPU, put the MIUI6vxxx File and Samsung EFSBackup data onto your sd card.
and Then you can flash the new MIUI Firmware.
At first flash speedmod 500hz with odin as PDA
then go to recovery and install zip : galaxy efs backup
pull the battery out and start in download mode.
Then Flash cm7 galaxy inital kernel with odin but un tick Auto Restart.
and then wipe data and cache
then install miui6vxx
Didnt work the Vol Down + Home + Start Button. so how can I fix?
try this, plug your phone to your pc, if your phone is detected properly, use this and use the reboot download script. If this doesn't work, I can bet 50000000$ that your phone is not bricked. The fact it's loading make me sure it's aint bricked. Buy a jig on ebay, turn your phone off ( Pull the battery ) plug the jig, and you will be in download mode. Reflash a stock firmware with bootloader. This will mostly fix your problem. Next time, ask in general or Q&A, this place is only for development. Have a nice day.

Pull battery out for 30 secs. Then retry repacing battery and holding the volume down, power and home button until download mode appears. Should get you there no problems.
I would download gti9000b firmware from xda and flash from Odin to get a stock firmware. Remember to repartition and load bootloaders to make sure everything is "as is should be"
From what I see in the video I'm guessing you have gingerbread bootloaders on CM kernel/CWM which don't work at all. you may just get away with flashing a chainfire CWM kernel from download mode with Odin but it may be too screwed up with the cyanogenmod stuff and need a complete Odin firmware flash as above.

You need a GT 9000B ROM/kernel. If you lost your combo, must try with hairdryer or jit tag.
I feel yr pain mate, but I would urge you to post this in the correct section - q&a or general. The stickies are quite clear.
I'm glad so many people have helped you, many such posts in the development section have gone unanswered.

Did I Brick? Stuck at Android Recovery Screen

Rooted...no issue there.
Installed ROM Manger.
Installed Clockwork Recovery from Rom Manager as I wanted to install a new rom.
Now when I boot, no matter what combination I hold down, it goes to the Android System Recovery screen and in the background is the white triangle, yellow exclamation point and little android guy.
I can move between the three ofered choices but pressing the power button (I assume this is the OK button) does nothing.
Thoughts / help?

If you are using an ACS recovery I am pretty sure you need to go down and up with the volume key untill it enables power button for ok. Also I have heard flashing with rom manager is not the best thing to do.
Another one bites the dust. ROM manager is a no no for our phones. You need to get into download mode and do a restore from sfhubs one click, located here.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Also check out his auto root package, which will install cwm via simple on screen directions. It is located in his signature. To get to odin mode hold power + down vol. Then press vol up button when prompted. Have he oneclick open already, then plug in device. If shows com, you are good to go. Ensure only pda button is checked. All of these directions are in the post, so just collow them. Good luck. This is the method I use.

If you are using Rom Manger, there's gonna be none who can help you. Rom manager CWM only worked well until GB ROM. Use Rogue Recovery or ODIN one click method (sfhub's) from the download mode.

May have bricked my GS3

I initially flashed the CM10 JB stable ROM successfully. The only problem I had was that I was unable to transfer files via USB to my computer, so I tried using the toolkit to flash the stock rom, but when it was flashing I got an error message that my phone disconnected.
When I turn my phone on I can only get into download mode. If i just press the power button, I receive a black screen.
I have tried using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687 to flash the stock ROM using ODIN but the phone freezes at the Samsung logo screen after the T-Mobile "4G Android" screen.
Any help is truly appreciated

you cant. You need to boot into recovery. Trust me you can get in it, might take a few tries. Try to boot into recovery without the usb cable plugged in.With the phone completely off, and unplugged do the vol-up, home +power combo til it flashes that first screen, it can be a ***** but youll get in
Try turning the device off, remove the battery and leave it there for 60 secs. Make sure the phone is unplug from computer and the hit vol up, home, power until the phone vibrate then release. This should get the phone into the stock recovery.

I really do not think I will be able to get in. I have tried it so many times and even previously could only get into CWM recovery through the app on my phone to boot into recovery. I could never actually get in holding the vol-up+home+power.
Is it possible to flash CWM recovery through ODIN and download mode?
I'm not sure why this stock rom is freezing after I flash it through odin.

i would suggest trying a different cable and if ur gonna use odin again, wipe everything (especially /system!) in recovery before booting into download mode for the odin flash. would also reccomend tryin the legit stock rom in odin (unrooted) if its still freezing on you.
Flash with Odin again, then after it is successfully completed power down phone you have to hold vol up home and power until you see some blue text appear in the top left corner then factory reset from recovery

If you couldn't get into CWM recovery before you screwed the rom then you just aren't doing it right.with phone off, hold up and home, then hold powered button for like 3 sec then let go of only power... but i think you are right the download mode skips the Samsung logo.the recovery puts up Samsung logo before booting recovery. Why can't you Odin a recovery partition ?

AOKP to STOCK BIG PROBLEMS

i need some help here guys. i was running AOKP for the longest time and loving it. then today i tried to update to the latest version. i downloaded the rom and went to flash the .zip in CWM. i've done this dozens of times. this time things were completely different. i kept getting FCs over and over. so i booted into recovery again to reflash. for whatever reason, it seemed like my file system was corrupted. folders i had never seen were all over the place. it was a big mess. i decided to flash back to stock. i booted into DL mode and did this with odin successfully. then upon reboot, the phone was stuck at the Samsung logo. looking into this i saw that i needed to boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache. i tried doing this but no matter what, my phone will not boot into recovery. i have even used odin to flash CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.0.tar. when i press volume up+home+power i get the first samsung logo with the tiny blue text up at the top saying "recovery booting" but then nothing happens and the phone just goes to a normal boot attempt, which stalls at the samsung logo. please help guys. just for a quick overview. was on [ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.1 )Task & Ktoonsez (12/23) (AT&T/Rogers), potential file system corruption during a routine upgrade, flashed back to stock with odin (meaning i can still boot into DL mode), but CANNOT boot into RECOVERY mode. i'm freaking out

First of all, good job on searching before posting! :good:
Second, if you want help, try using capital letters at the start of a sentence and using paragraphs. It makes it sooo much easier to read that way.
Third, just keep trying. But from what you're saying about a file-system issue, that could be bad? It's not familiar to me anyways. Hope it didn't damage the internal SD.
If nothing else works, then try the USB-JIG to access Recovery mode. They're like $5 on eBay.
Okay, try these things.
1) Odin a non-rooted, stock ROM that comes with a 3E recovery and try to access that recovery.
If that doesn't work, move onto this step:
2) Odin a different recovery. I attached one to this post. Just unzip it and then odin it. :CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar:
Try to get recovery again after a battery pull.
If that doesn't do it, then try this next:
1) Odin a rooted ROM onto the phone.
2) Download the attached "openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-d2att" and unzip it.
3) Download this ADB & Fastboot tool and extract it to your C:/ drive with subfolders using this path: "C:/Android/platform-tools/".
Here is the file to download:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294523275
4) Rename the openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-d2att to "recovery" and place it into the Platform-tools folder.
5) Open the JPEG and follow the EXACT same commands in the pic. This will install TWRP recovery for you.
Then try once again to get into recovery.
If it still doesn't work, then buy a USB Jig.

Thanks so much for the advice.
Regarding the TWRP installation, is the phone connected to the computer in DL mode for this?
I am currently downloading a rooted stock ROM. This might help shed light on what is going on here.... I unzipped the .tar you attached to your first post and stuck it in the PDA slot with the phone connected and in DL mode. ODIN did nothing and the returned a FAIL message saying that it "Failed to Open Serial [COM] Port". Hmmmm. Anyways I am going to try to install the TWRP recovery. If not I will buy the USB jig. The TWRP doesn't use Odin. You have to use ADB/FastBoot like I show in the picture attached with it.
I have yet to find an Odin flashable TWRP.

TWRP boot loop note 2

So i installed the zip via these instructions:
Install using your existing recovery like you would any other zip.
Reboot and select TWRP from the boot menu.
There is NO boot menu and when I do a volume up menu power Teamwin pops up then it restarts and it simply doesn't frickin work at all.... wtf
The Android Market App Install Method (GooManage) worked flawlessly for me. I'd highly recommend that.
Try the Odin method as well if you can't seem to boot to your system.
So for the odin just hold volume down plug it into the pc then run the odin.exe on the pc and its that easy?
Actually, it's run Odin first. Then make sure the phone is completely powered off. (Remove battery if necessary, then put it back in.) Then press and hold the home button, down volume rocker button and power button until it takes you to download mode. Then you can plug it to the PC. Once Odin says "Added!" at the side, you're ready to upload/install (reinstall in your case) custom recovery.
I just updated my TWRP Recovery from 2.3.3.1 to 2.3.3.2 by flashing the 2.3.3.2 openrecovery zip from my 2.3.3.1 Recovery. What is your current Recovery? Go to TeamWIN website and search for appropriate recovery for your device... then download the "zip" file to your ext sd if you wish to flash via your current recovery. You can also download the "tar" and flash via Odin3.
In odin use pda option to load the default stock rom
Easy peasy
Do this http://androidromupdate.com/2012/11...y-note-2-sgh-i317-original-factory-stock-rom/

Yeah I put the correct zip from the twrp site the latest for the note 2 att and when the teamwin pops up it just restarts ....
Okay just flased odin 2.3.3.2 and teamwin pops up and restarts... maybe 2.3.3.2 is COMPLETELY FRICKIN Screwed ill try a different version
This is where im getting the data for my note 2 att
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/124
What exact things DO I need to check in ODIN since I just flashed 2.3.3.1 and getting the same issue just restarts after Teamwin pops up
I FIXED IT ALL BACK TO NORMAL AND TWRP is working thanks everyone
So, what was the final solution you came up with?
Go to play store. Download goo manager.
In goo manager hit menu button and select "install openscriptrecovery" then ensure it says your device name. And if it does hit OK/yes. It will say it installed almost immediately. And you're good to go.
