Sdcard/0

I just flashed the new 4.2 OTA and it really messed up my Sdcard, Can't restore from backup to minco5 because it moved everything from /sdcard to /sdcard/0 . Anyone know how to disable this "feature"?

This is default behaviour now due to the multi user capabilities introduced in 4.2 as far as I can tell.

I also noticed that, I believe this is not related to multiple users feature.. Its kind of first storage.. You can see in all Linux storage are list like 0,1,2,...
To resolve this issue we have to make link in recovery.. So we have to wait clockworkmod release for 4.2

You could be right.. the "emulated" folders I note in the file system are related to how Android 4.2 is handling multi-users. Anyway.. smarter people than me are probably best to comment on this next

Try flashing a 4.1.2 rom and check your backups again..

He flashed an OTA, not AOSP. GN does not "support" multi users. It has to do with the way Google is looking at storage after implementing multi user support. You will not be able to use it on the G-Nexus OTA though. Also, Clockwork needs to be updated.
DONT update to a 4.2 ROM until Koush updates CWM.

And is there a way to remount sdcard back after such update?..

I had the same problem, but i manager to restore my backup, here is what you have to do:
1- install file manager e.g. Es filemanager..
2- go to /sdcard/0 and find clockmodwork folder
3- Long press on CLockmodwork folder then copy or cut.
4- Go back to /sdcard/ and paste.
5- now reboot to recovery and the phone will see the backup
Note that when copy the folder it will take some time, however it depends on how many backups you have.

So...should we move all of our sdcard data to /sdcard/0/...? ES File Explorer doesn't even see the new folder...just the old /sdcard/,

I though the sdcard data is actually located in "/data/media/0/". "/sdcard/" is just symlink from there.

I get an error on restoring system partition...so restoring my cm10 backup is a nonono

The solution is simple, took me forever to copy my backup:

1. Keep the files where they are and increase the number of 0 directories every time we install a new rom.
2. Use the new Twrp and live with folder 0.
3. Move all our file from 0 folder back to sdcard with a file manager.

Hi Guys,
Just notice something in my internal storage of my gnex. When browsing my phone using Root Explorer app
I notice something. I have a folder named "0" and the content of this folder are the same as the content inside /sdcard directory.
Anyone who have notice this in there gnex?

I'd venture to say the tally may even be well over a dozen. It's a wonder that people are caught off guard by it, even on the N7 as well.

they said you need to update your recovery and it will fix the problem. i updated my CWM to the latest 6.0.1.9 but i can still see the duplicate folder.

Actually you have to update CWM "before" installing 4.2 to avoid this problem.
Since you already had it now, then use any file explorer to copy or move the files from /sdcard/0/ back to /sdcard/ location then delete the 0 folder and it should not happen again because now you have the latest CWM as you mentioned
By the way, TWRP also works if using latest version 2.3.2.1

you will have at-least one "0" folder due to the sdcard format change in 4.2, the updated recoveries insure that more "0" folders are not created

[Q] Liquidsmooth ROM

I really want to install this Rom on my s3 was wondering if I download zip file on my phone can I just install it with mobile Odin or cwm install from zip?

Liquid smooth zip is flashable from recovery

While the poster above me provided that answer already. Just by the nature of your question I believe you should stop and wait. Do some more reading and then do more reading. Learn as much as you can. Know what your doing, why your doing it and understand it. You sound u sure and unexperienced. Please Mt advise to you is read the complete thread for that route.. Make sure your reading the Sprint Forums and know all there is to know before attempting anything.

good solid advice. there is alot that can go wrong, ( I speak from experience) but it's pretty easy to get it right with all the correct info before starting

If you're going to AOSP from a Touchwiz ROM, you'll need to create a 0 folder in the root of your internal storage and move all of your files into it. AOSP 4.2+ treats the 0 folder as your root directory and will not see anything outside of it.

Incorrect you do not need to create anything it does it on its own when going from 4.1 to 4.2 it will move everything to the new O folder it creates.

There's been countless times where I've had to manually move all of my files, otherwise my internal storage is empty. For example, when I jump from ROM to ROM, I use ROM Toolbox Pro to backup/restore my apps. If I fail to move my files to a /0 folder prior to flashing an AOSP rom, ROM Toolbox Pro will not find any of my backups. And it's because none of my files move themselves to the /0 folder. And I'm on TWRP 2.5.0.0.

That's an issue with rom toolbox. Not recognizing where things are located when you flash 4.2 over 4.1. The rom flash will create the O folder and move everything. How would a third party app know where to find it?
Also every time you go back to 4.1 and return to 4.2 it creates a folder again there have been individuals with 10 or more O folders.

A Third Party Application will always search for the file it created because it created it. If the 0 folder directory is treated as the root, then it will still search for /App Manager. But I was just using ROM Toolbox Pro as an example. I've had flawless transitions from going to ROM to ROM by moving my files into a newly created 0 folder everytime I go from Touchwiz to AOSP and when I go back, I simply move everything back from 0 folder to root internal and delete the 0 folder. It's a bit tedious - but I'm used to it now.

What did beanstalk do to my phone?

I just installed beanstalk (the exact way it says in the thread) coming from cleanrom AT&T SE 3.0. At first it looked like it wiped my internal SD card, but now it looks like the files are there but somehow hidden/inaccessible. I have roughly the same amount of free space as before my files disappeared, but all I can see are the default android folders that are all empty or very close to empty.
Is there some way to fix that?

If yours is like mine, there's a folder named "0" in the root of your sdcard that has your previous file structure...
In twrp it only sees the "0" folder when flashing and it's really annoying
Maybe there's a way to revert the file structure?

I saw a revert zip a few weeks ago. Someone will post the link.

You went from 4.1 to 4.3 most likely when you do that it changes the structure for multiuser or different accounts on your phone take a file explorer and look at your sd card you should be able to find your stuff
If you do a search there are a ton of threads about it

Download and flash restore sd from link below. Im guessing from beanstalk you downgrade tw rom.

The revert .zip is located at the front of the Cyanogenmod thread ....in the first post I believe .....
However ...I'm uncertain if it can be used while running this or other AOSP roms ...and it may be reserved for going back to TW based builds....so read carefully and flash at your own risk...

[Q] Duplicate Folders in Stock Gallery

I'm using a Bell I317M and recently flashed the official 4.3 update. I have noticed that I see duplicate entries in the gallery and have traced it down to the fact that I have two paths mapped to the SD card: /storage/extSdCard and /mnt/extSdCard
I don't recall this happening prior to the update. I believe it's related to a new way of referencing the external SD cards but is there a way to fix this so that the stock gallery app doesn't think they are completely different locations and show duplicates?
Actually, this is not only restricted to the stock gallery app. I have the stock android gallery app and it's doing the same thing!

Are you using more than one gallery ??
Or more than one camera app?
Both will create and place duplicates...

I have both the Samsung stock gallery app and the Stock JB gallery installed. As for camera, I mainly use the Samsung stock camera app. But how (and why) would it create duplicates? New pics get saved to the DCIM location on the external SD card.
But since I have 2 logical paths to that location (one through /mnt and another through /storage), the gallery shows duplicates....

Have you flashed or dirty flashed roms? I've seen it where this can happen. Most likely the double gallery apps are doing this. Can you delete the non samsung app and see if that worked?

Agreed ....
Use TIBU and freeze one of the apks then delete it's associated duplicate folder...
Then test it...
Also ...make sure that you don't have 2 cameras set as system apps or they will both create folders on boot...g

re: dirty flashing. the only thing I can think of was the in-place upgrade of the official 4.3 upgrade which I flashed through ODIN. I did not wipe prior or after the upgrade.

This is an easy fix that worked for me.... I had a directory that duplicated itself, and two more that wouldn't even show in the gallery.
1. I had a couple of directories duplicate themselves when they were originally created in the emulated directory and I "moved" it to my SD card... then when viewed in gallery it showed two directories "both in SD card"..... all I did was copy this whole directory to a different location on the sd card "copy not move", then went back and deleted the original directory. Then took my copy and moved it back to my original location. Then when viewing gallery only one directory was visible "the right one".
Others recipes may work, but this one did for me...
2. Directories that were invisible were fixed simply by renaming the directory using ES explorer, go to gallery and confirm they now all show then go back in es explorer and rename back to what you had them before "if you wish".......
Now go into Gallery a second time and you should still see the directories with names back to original as you've named them. your fixed!
I think mine got messed up with I created a file called .nomedia inside the directory... while it did remove the directory from view in gallery "like it's supposed to do", when that file was deleted, the directory was still invisible.... Even after hard reboot, clearing system cache and partition cache....but the above fixed it
