[Q] Jelly Bean boot image - HTC One V

i just installed cm-10-20120802-UNOFFICIAL-primou.zip on an HTC One V and now it fails to boot.
from what i've seen in other threads and through my own experience, these devices are particularly fussy when it comes to boot.img files... either they don't push out properly during updates or they require manual teasing, etc etc.
there were one or two articles online which mention a special jbboot.img file that someone had created and if any of the links worked, i'd gladly push that onto my device.
i have tried pulling the boot.img out of the zip mentioned above and flashing it to my device using fastboot. that did not work.
does anyone have a link to the proper boot partition image?

i may be on target to fix this myself...
grabbing a HELLBOY kernel here...

... as mentioned in threads like this one here...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967

ah... positive developments.
after flashing boot-HELLBOY-CM10-201212251747.img i am seeing Android booting. strangely, however, it is a CM9 boot animation, but i flashed a CM10 rom. weird! now i get to figure THAT part out.
EDIT: aaaaaaannnnd... stuck at the android boot animation. again, i have NO IDEA why this is a CM9 animation, but that's neither here nor there. i'm more than willing to entertain anyone's notion as to what could be holding up the boot process now.
yes, after installing cm-10-20120802-UNOFFICIAL-primou.zip i did a wipe of all userdata as well as cache and dalvik cache.

i went back into my recovery environment (i use TWRP and have become a total fan of that, but i'm sure that working in ClockworkMod would be just about the same result) and performed another full wipe: data, caches, even system.
then i re-installed the cm-10-20120802-UNOFFICIAL-primou.zip rom and rebooted.
now the phone will stay stuck at the HTC logo. should i try re-flashing the boot image again? i'll take a whack at that.
EDIT: boot-HELLBOY-CM10-201212251747.img flashed. again with the CM9 boot animation and failure to fully boot into an android environment. ugh.

well, if this device wants so badly to run CM9 (the whole boot animation is a mystery to me) i'm going to just let it.
i've wiped yet again, and then flashed CM9PrimoUB3.zip and then used fastboot to push boot-HELLBOY-CM9-201212251747.img onto the device.
i'm at the android boot animation (CM9 animation, of course) and seemingly stuck there. what a goddamn pain in the ass.
EDIT: well, after a LOOOONG boot animation process, it appears that the Android O/S has started. praise jeebus and pass the beer.
EDIT 2: looks like the pDroid patch process was successful, and the phone is booting much faster now, too.

B3 sh!t that's old...... where did you find that? Also seeing your from america im going to assume you have a CDMA device not a GSM device, you should be flashing PRIMOC rom's not PRIMOU if this is the case.

[Q] Stuck with no OS, no emmc access Epic 4g Touch

Hi all,
I'm new to trying to root the E4GT and I've gotten in a bit of a jam. I don't think I'm completely borked because I can still easily get the phone into download mode or Clockwork recovery, but I'm stuck on what to do next and I want to proceed carefully so I don't accidentally turn this into a hard brick.
Because I'm on Linux, not Windows, after reading up on rooting the E4GT I installed heimdall. It's not the most intuitive program in the world but I eventually worked out rooting it using "heimdall flash --kernel ~/path/to/zImage" where the "zImage" in question belonged to Zedomax v3 as linked from epic4gtouchroot.com. That seemed to work brilliantly as I was able to boot into what appeared to be a reset phone, now with a generic Android boot animation rather than the default Sprint advert, and I had the Superuser app.
From there, I decided to try Strongsteve's Odex blue and I booted into Clockwork. Without even thinking about it I wiped the factory data and cache partition, and then started looking into what I needed to do, only to learn that my external SD was going to be inaccessible from here so I had the .zip file in the wrong place. I proceeded to reboot my phone to set things right but I was shocked when the phone simply appeared to turn off after the (new, rooted) boot animation played. The phone then becomes unresponsive until the battery is pulled, at which point it becomes responsive again.
Because it boots the Samsung logo (with the yellow warning triangle) and part of the boot animation, I have plenty of time to get it into download mode or Clockwork, but I don't know what my next move is. I guess (based on a bad experience with trying to root a Kindle Fire) that this is still recoverable, though. Should I just flash a stock/stock rooted ROM? Reflashing the Zedomax kernel doesn't seem to work like it did before. Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone have a link to a recovery method that should be reliable in this situation? Thanks in advance and please remember LINUX -- i.e., no Odin.
[[ PS - I pretty much described the whole process above, but in case anyone was wondering, let me explicitly state I do not have a working nandroid backup. I only got Clockwork after rooting successfully, and I didn't think wipe data/cache was potentially a brick! :\ ]]
UPDATE: Solved! I was able to successfully flash the zImage from the stock rooted kernel here. Phone is working (and rooted) once again!

[Q] Change Boot Logo? (without Logo Me)

Hey, I've done some reading up around here, and I'm looking to change my boot logo (Boot logo. Not the animation). So far, it doesn't look like anyone other than the developer of Logo Me has any method to do so.
From what I understand, "fastboot flash logo.bin logo.bin" doesn't work as it does on most other devices.
Now, I'm no professional, but I've got some of what many don't have: time and dedication.
It boils down to this: To change the boot logo, I'd need (1) a way to get the boot.img off of the phone, (2) a way to reliably edit the boot.img without corrupting it or messing with the format, (3) a way to figure out which file is the boot logo, and (4) a way to get the modified boot.img back onto the phone (again without messing it up in the process).
I'm fairly sure (4) is solved with "fastboot flash boot.img boot.img", but the others, not so easily dismissed.
When I make a nandroid backup in TWRP, the boot backup is an 8MB "boot.emmc.win". I'm fairly sure that this might be of some use, even if it's only for opening and exploring the contents of the partition.
I'm not sure if anybody has any remarkable leads that they've kept to themselves, but I'd figure this would be a good place to start.
Boot.img = ramdisk+kernel
Nothing to do with boot splash

the image that youre looking for is somehow connected to the bootloader. so far only ezekeel has figured out a way to do it safely. key word is safely. it appears as its very easy to brick the device if a mistake is made. now, that said, ezekeel isnt your ordinary app developer. hes also one of the smartest, most creative kernel developers that the android has(that doesnt work for google). youve probably even used one of his many kernel mods in one or more custom roms/kernels that youve tried, across varying devices.

[Q] Unable to fix bootloop - even tried STOCK flash in fastboot. No luck.

Hey guys,
Long time lurker, ROM user since the Galaxy S days.
Weird, intractable bootloop problem here. Gets to boot animation sometimes gets to the "upgrading android" screen, then bootloops in a few seconds after upgrading a few apps. Usually bootloops during the boot animation (doesn't matter what ROM or Stock ROM I try). Ocassionally gets to my "SIM PIN" screen, then reboots before I have a chance to enter anything.
Normal State have Cyanogenmod and Franco Kernel running buttery smooth. (CM10.1M3 Snapshot + Franco 376 when problem started)
Problem Started When I tried to update CM to the new RC1 from the Cyanogenmod upgrade button in "settings". I had SuperSU installed overtop the built-in superuser. Everything was working fine.
What I have tried:
Have latest CWM: Have flashed, reflashed, wiped and re-wiped everything imaginable through CWM. All Caches, system sdcard, you name it, if it's an option in CWM I have tried formatting or wiping it and reflashing a ROM.
ROMs I have tried - CM10.1M3 Snapshot, CM10.1RC1 CM10.1RC2, ParanoidAndroid 3.5+ (Latest), Bigxie Maguro Latest.
Finally I got fed up and decided to go back to STOCK, unrooted, unlocked using fastboot.
I did:
> fastboot erase boot
> fastboot erase cache
> fastboot erase recovery
> fastboot erase system
> fastboot erase userdata
> fastboot flash bootloader magurobootloader.img
> fastboot reboot-bootloader
> fastboot flash radio radioxxlj1.img
> fastboot reboot-bootloader
> fastboot -w update image-maguro-jdq39.zip
And after booting back into the STOCK google recovery (man I haven't seen that screen in AGES) and resetting factory clearing cache. Low and behold -
STILL BOOT LOOPS!!!! What the hell!?!
I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions would be great. What am I forgetting here?! I am absolutely desperate.
What is in the update image and where did you get it? I'd flash everything manually, skip the update command.

Ok good idea, I'll try. The update image was the stock image from google (can't post link - low post count) I just didn't remember the filenames when I was making the original post - but they are the official STOCK images - for the radio, the bootloader and the ROM.

Okay I tried flashing boot, system, userdata, and recovery manually with fastboot flash and after that I STILL get the rebootloop from google logo to boot animation to google logo. So weird.
Any other ideas?

So decided to try TWRP just to see...well I dunno.
Interstingly enough when I got to hit "reboot" in TWRP it says "OS not installed!!" which is weird because I basically flashed the stock everything 4.2.2 (bootloader recovery, system, boot, everything) from fastboot. Then JUST flashed the TWRP recovery.
I really don't know what to make of this. I just tried keeping the battery out for like 2 minutes, then going back into fastboot and manually flashing:
bootloader
boot
radio
recovery
system
userdata
relocked bootloader
of the STOCK google maguro 4.2.2 (MD5 sum is good. It checked out)
And I still get a continuous reboot loop that doesn't even get past the "X" animation screen. Very ocassionally (1/10) it does get past that screen and I get to the screen where you choose your language, but right when I choose my language, the phone reboots and then continues the loop.
Honestly...Unless someone has another idea, I think I'm going to get another phone tomorrow and pray I'm under warranty. I hate to do it, because I've never had to do that before through all my flashing/ROM adventures...but I don't know what else to do. I've been using sideload for everything (except of course the fastboot flashing back to stock), but I doubt that has anything to do with it...I dunno crap.
anyone have any words of advice?
One thing I thought i might work was redoing the partition table in Odin. So I tried this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065470 (Thanks to Samersh72)
ODIN worked perfectly, download mode worked well, installed fine, and...
still bootloops!
Sometimes gets to "updating android" does a few apps, then bootloops. Once got to the screen where I select language, and before I could select anything - bootloop!
Do you guys think this is hardware? Right now I've installed stock 4.2.2 through ODIN and locked the bootloader in anticipation of returning the phone...

I looked into the OMAP flash method - that's some hardcore stuff. It looks like it's more for phones that can't access recovery, or hard seemingly bootbricked. I can actually do all of those things with my phone - I can write a new recovery no problem, I have fastboot access (Works well), I can even seemingly install ROMs - for instance the cyanogenmod boot animation plays fine - but everything boot loops.
I'm a bit worried to try OMAP Flash because it seems from the thread that some people are having their IMEI numbers erased or set to generic and I don't want that to happen since I'm actually still under warranty right now...
Do you think it's worth it to try?

you tried almost everything.... still on warranty:good:, everything is stock, so what are you waiting for, take it to service center

Yeah you're right. OK done.
While I agree that the safest route is to return the device to warranty, omapflash is a tool which communicates with omap chip before even fastboot/bootloader is installed.
Have you tried viewing logcat/dmesg while device is booting to see why and/or its bootlooping?

I can't seem to get at logcat from this state. even if I try adb -d logcat or something similar it doesn't work. It doesn't pick up the log from the boot. Is it because USB debugging is disabled by default on the stock OS?

Yes, but There's a build.prop property that enables ADB debugging.. Since you have access to a custom recovery, you can mount /system rw and make your changes there.

Similar issue
Hey guys,
I am having a similar issue with my Nexus. It is running Phandroid 3 and one day just locked up, rebooted, and shortly after reboot (15-30 sec. after the OS loads) it freezes. I can still boot into CWM recovery and into fastboot mode, and have tried to flash it with the stock rom and bootloader. I also tried an OMAP flash, but that did not change anything as well. The odd thing is that when I try to flash a new rom (I have tried stock and other custom roms) it flashes as if everything is fine, but when I reboot it still has the phandroid rom on it. Another odd note is that when phandroid boots it notifies me that I have an incoming text message, but I removed the SIM card over a month ago. I have been struggling with this and would love any thoughts or opinions anyone has to offer. Thanks a lot!

[HELP] I think I screwed up, factory image/bootloader help

EDIT: SOLVED. After some hours at work I was able to boot back to the bootloader and flash the images individually.
TL;DR at the bottom.
Hi, I've been rooting and ROMming for a while now, and last night I made a mistake that set forth a chain of depressing events. I have a N7 2013 LTE, and was running AOKP up until last night. I wanted to flash the 9001 L preview, despite having no access to data. Simple right? Wrong, you forget to realize I'm a tired idiot last night. I downloaded the zip no problem, rebooted to TWRP and commenced my advanced wipe. Some how, I mistakenly checked off "wipe internal storage" during the process. So I go back to the Install screen, and my heart sinks. F***. At this point I decide to let it lie in recovery until tomorrow (today) and keep it charged.
Fast forward to this morning, I'm at the office. My device is charged and waiting in recovery. I decide I'm just going to flash the factory image to stock 4.4 and start with a clean slate, wiping all (even though it's wiped). Reason for factory image and not just adb push the ROM is that I'm having a seemingly-unsolvable issue of incorrect storage. It tells me my 32gb device only has 11.6 gb total storage. This has persisted through multiple clean-wiped installs of various ROMs, but I don't know if it started out like that when I bought it, since I didn't think to check before unlocking and putting a ROM on it.
So I get the SDK and images on my work PC, and commence flash-all.bat. Working great until it gets to system.img, then it fails. Try again twice, same thing. Open the image zip and extract the files, then try to flash one by one, now it's saying the commands are invalid (fastboot flash system system.img, etc). So I wonder, because sometimes these devices are wonky in ADB, maybe it installed and just said it failed? F*** it, I'll try to boot. Google logo for an hour. Ok, cool, I'll go back to the bootloader. NOPE. The device either won't power on at all, or it will get stuck at the splash screen and hang there. Any idea where to begin to fix this?
TL;DR: No OS on phone, failed flashing system.img in flash-all.bat, now device won't boot to bootloader or (missing) OS. Any ideas?

*noob* Flash Assist- boot stalled | list of actions taken |

This has been resolved!!!
I honestly can't recreate my solution other than fiddling with the system partition and after many failed attempts of stock recovery
===================
Greetings fellow modders.
For whatver the reason, I can't seem to load up the beanstalk 7 rom. I followed the directions:
Flash instructions:
Download the ROM
Download ARM64 OpenGApps for Android 7.1: Download
Push the files to your SD-Card
Reboot to TWRP
Wipe system, data, cache and ART cache
Flash the ROM
Flash the GApps
Reboot to your system
Unfortunately for me, the system gets suck at the loading screen. [BeanStalk 7]
I've went back into TWRP, restarted the instructions... same result. I have the distinct feeling that I'm doing something wrong here, and I'm too retarded to figure it out.
However, I win the golden retard award for not making a backup prior to flashing.
The bootloader confirms Unlocked and S-Off
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I attempted to deploy a stock image, but TWRP is telling me it's corrupt. If it's relevant, I'm on a Verizon Device.
I figure the only solution is finding a path forward. Oh esteemed peers of the modding community, will you take pity?
=====
Actions taken
- 1st round as instructed; boot stalled; went into download mode then recovery mode
-2nd round; wiped then reinstalled; boot stalled; rebooted into bootloader then recovery mode;
- 3rd round; went into format data, typed yes; went into advanced wipe, selected Dalvik / ART Cache, system, cache, data, internal storage; proceeded with reinstall; boot stalled; went back to recovery mode
- 4th round same as 3rd round, just installed beanstalk; boot stalled, decided to leave it running for at least a few hours hoping it would finally load; boot still stuck; loaded into bootloader and powered off device.
- 5th round; same as 4th round, however removed SD Card during initial system boot.
- 6th round; awaiting instruction before potentially causing more damage

How long does it get stuck? Did you give it a good 10 minutes without interrupting the process?

Yes, I was flashing from Marshmallow
Prior to flashing, I did review the ROM thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/rom-beanstalk-7-t3522224 and while there were some hiccups, the majority of others was able to successfully flash (speculative from their comments on bugs etc); due to my "junior member status", I am unable to post to that thread.
