So I'm trying to replace some original system apps that i deleted from de-bloating. I basically just copy paste it via ES file explorer to system/app and change permissions to rw- r-- r-- and restart. I've gotten apps working using this method before, but some apps don't seem to want to re-install when I do this. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Which apps are you trying to reinstall?
Do they maybe have dependent libs? If I were u, I'd just do a nandroid backup, reflash the ROM, and maybe restore your data only from the nandroid.

The one's i'm trying to get back are VPN client and the stock music player. They both come with odex files and I'm pulling them straight out of an image so I doubt they're corrupt. I was thinking about starting over, but it's a lot of work redoing my theming. I guess I'll live without the apps for now.

I was wondering if there is an apk available for the ICS Peoe app?

Don't install it, use root explorer or similar, move it to /system, change permissions and then move to apps.

OK thanks, what do permissions need to be set to? Will I be able to remove the stock Sony Contacts app as well? Roland

Using root explorer, it's x x, x, x from top down. Use your file manager to check permissions on another app and use the same.

Use jj's rom its all almost aosp looking and feel it has aosp contacts

And then?
What do I do after setting permissions & moving to /system/app? I can't find any way to open it, and it still won't install ("Parsing Error")
Thanks!
You reboot your phone and it should replace the stock app.
I followed the instructions.
1. Copy Contact.apk inside system/app
2. Changed permission to rw-r-r which is same for other apps
3. Rebooted, I see get my xperia stock contacts.
I am sure I missed something, when I try to install from system/app it does not install.

Great, but some how I can't find the default contact.apk to replace
Perhaps my mistake, using Xperia Pureness rom, possibly its moved somewhere else.
Look in the themes and apps section, I've uploaded the apps folder for situations like this.
Sent from my Phone.
Okay I found out that this rom is using PhoneBook.apk for contacts.
I tried removing PhoneBook.apk and keeping just Contacts.apk reboot
Renamed Contacts to PhoneBook reboot
But in vain.
Permissions are same.
Now restored PhoneBook.apk until I find a solution to get Contacts.apk to run.
I just installed Paranoid Android ROM and I'm really happy with it but I'm missing the stock email as it's the only one which seems to play nicely with my work exchange server.
I've tried Air Droid and K-9 but they just won't connect, and I don't want to have to shell out on Touchdown.
Has anyone got the stock email apk they could upload for me? Thanks
I am on Stock 4.1 Jelly Bean. By mistake i uninstalled the email.apk using titanium backup. Now not able to install using email.apk from different source nor through titanium backup. Also the email.apk from this link also not installing for me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28000240
tried to put the email.apk to system/app. reboot. but still no success.

using a file manager like Root Explorer or EStrongs, browse to the file in system/app, open the properties, and change the permissions as rw- r-- r-- (see screenshot)

Hi there,
My N7100 is troubling me with a weird issue. The phone works absolutely fine except for Gallery. When I open Gallery it slows down, freezes takes forever to zppm etc. I went to app settings, and did a clear data, enable/disable, clear cache for the Gallery app but it didn't help. I've even done a factory data reset from the backup and restore menu but still no joy.
Please help!
You can install the new gallary and camera? Maybe that helps

Thanks that sounds promising but how do I install the new gallery app? Where do I find it? Is it possible my phone's not rooted?
Have u disabled gallery syncing?
You can try this?

I don't think so. As far as I know it has a different version of Android.

Your phone has to be rooted and you need to have any root explorer installed.
1. I'd suggest to back up SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex from the folder /system/app and to think about a recovery plan if something goes wrong.
2. Copy my SystemUI.apk into the folder /system and change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (644).
3. Delete SystemUI.odex from /system/app and move SystemUI.apk file from the folder /system to the folder /system/app with a replacement of the existing file.
4. After a successful replacement you will probably get some errors, all you need is to restart the device.
PS if you don't know or understand anything from the above firstly read about it then act or otherwise you can damage your smartphone.
I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong.
That all makes sense, only thing I don't know how to do is change permissions for the apk. How do I do that?
EDIT: using both es explorer or androzip i'm unable to move the file to the system folder. I have no idea how to get it there. Should I try a different file explorer?

If you are deodexed rty mod from here
Flash it with TWRP
Not deodexed, no idea how to.
I'm fully rooted, bootloader unlocked, cwm recovery and also safestrapped.
I managed to get it into the system folder but not into the app folder. Lucky I backed up in cwm, phone kinda needs a working system ui doesn't it!

To change the permissions you need to go to the file properties. After that just cut-paste it into the app folder. Es file explorer always works for me . However it had a strange behaviour when I tried to use 'copy to' or 'move to', so just cut-paste.
Finally got this going thanks to your patience! I had to leave the permissions to rwe and only copy/paste would work for some reason. Had to reset my wallpaper and turn data back on after reboot.
Otherwise all good, thanks!

I remmber seeing Samsung Camera.apk separately on some thread for the phone. You can try searching.. If not unzip and take off the Samsung camera from the Stock and install and make it a system app, Considering some additional files required to make it usable..
