I have this setup on my Wildfire:
0. BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
1. HBOOT 0.80.0002
2. CWM 2.5.0.1
I've installed RemPuzzle rom. It works OK. I wanted to modify it a bit so decided to install "custom" package from the ROM thread. It doesn't go - I cannot select options in Aroma. I believe it is because of outdated CWM version.
I downloaded PC49IMG.zip file. Put it on sdcard. Turn off, then VolDown+TurnOn. It shows "checking PC49IMG.zip" and then nothing happens.
What is the easiest way to update my CWM? From what I read I have to update my HBOOT, then install a lot of drivers.. Is there easier way?
I tried to install ROM Manager and update CWM from it. It tells that CWM has been isntalled, but when I boot into - it is still old one.
Thanks.

And if you dont have drivers installed, just install htc sync and uninstall it.

I have rooted my branded desire from tmo this morning using the macardo method, I now need to flash the radio required to flash the new rooted froyo rom, but in the instructions it says that you need to run the recovery-windows bat file in r5 rookit, I have used the r6 rootkit because my hboot is 0.80 and I cannot find this file.
Someone has told me to flash radio using the rom manager and fake flash method, so I installed the clockworkmod recovery which I entered rebooted and installed rom manager, but when I reboot it just goes into android recovery even if I manually enter recovery or if I try to reboot to recovery with rom manager.
also I get the message cant open e:/cache/recovery/command but it was doing this before I installed clock and rom manager
What am I doing wrong
Is ther another way to flash radio

inside the R5 rootkit... when you extract the files you will find it together with the rest of the files named recovery-windows.bat file. just double click it when your phone is at the red exclaimation mark and your good to go.
In ROM manager install first the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and it will download the files after that just go to Reboot into Recovery and it should automatically bring you to the Recovery mode where you can flash the ROM from your SD card or wipe the data etc...
Hope this helps. Cheers!

Some time ago i rooted my phone with Unrevoked, at that time it flashed Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 to my phone. Since then i've been upgrading my recovery through ROM Manager, or so i thought anyway. Because using "Reboot into recovery" from ROM Manager, takes me to recovery with version 2.5.0.7 of Clockworkmod, but if i manually go into recovery, by turning the phone off and holding down the volume and the power button, i get to Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 still.
Why is it like this? Almost like there is "different levels" of recovery modes? Do i have two different recoveries installed on the phone or something? And how do i flash my recovery so that when i boot into recovery the manual way, it's the latest as well?
Been doing some thinking, the reason ROM Manager doesn't seem to update the version when am booting into recovery the manual way, is it because of this S-ON thingy?
Did some reading on: http://alpharev.shadowchild.nl/ and there is some kind of security on /system and /recovery(which Alpharev can remove, but i haven't tried it yet), is this the reason why ROM Manager doesn't flash the recovery?
If so, when i click "reboot into recovery" from inside ROM Manager, what kind of recovery does it take me to, since the version obliviously is updated there?
Edit: Maybe it's only doing a "fake-flash" of the recovery from inside ROM Manager? Because of this security thingy on /recovery? If so, how do i permanently update the recovery? Is it only possible through unrevoked? And if i use Alpharev, will ROM Manager then be able to permanently update the recovery?
Yes you are right assuming it has to do with s-off. Koush circumvented this by using fakeflash which is automatic applied when rebooting using Rom manager.
And yes making the phone s-off will make Rom manager able to flash the recovery, but it won't because at the time it was made s-off wasn't available. So it will need an update from koush.
To flash a recovery you download it as an img file to your computer and flash it using fastboot.
Okay, thanks for the answer.
Please I need your help.
I have rooted my HTC desire (not sim locked) with software Unrevoked and work great. The version of Clockworkmod is 2.5.0.7 and I found newer 2.5.1.2-bravo from this site. I can`t put the new version via ROM manager and Unrevoked.
I use custom rom: latest version of MIUI
ROM manager:
tryid with recoveries and select 2.5.1.4 and get error "An error occurred while ndonloading your recovery"
Unrevoked:
Select the .img file and phone boots twice and nothing happens.
Can you maybe tell me what is going wrong....
PS: I can put custom rom and partition my micro sd without problems.
i must have missed something or did something wrong.
i installed visionary, temp root and perm rooted.
ive got my custom ROM in the root of my SD card.
downloaded and installed ROM manager.
through ROM manager i installed clockworkmod recovery.
i installed easyradiotool and selected Rdio S-OFF
running ROM manager i selected "install ROM frm SD card"
selected my ROM and it booted into Recovery, i was given 4 options:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partion
which am i meant to choose to install my ROM, or what have i missed out?
many thanks
Re-Flash recovery from within ROM Manager, some users require it to be flashed twice.
I did exactly the same (except for that Radio S-OFF thing) and I have the exact same problem.
All I get is that mobile phone with the exclamation mark.
Help please..
bangbangparis, you need S-OFF to get ClockworkMod.
I got mine flashed, red triangle with exclamation mean its in recovery mode, press the + volume button and power then go from there.

Ok sorry I'm new to this stuff..
so apparently i did S-OFF because I got the ROM-Manager.
But what do I have to do in Recovery Mode? It gives me only those 4 options you mentioned before.
I'm close to smash my phone against a wall..
You can have Rom manager without S-OFF, too. Go to bootloader and see if it says S-OFF at the top.

Which version of CMW did you install from ROM Manager? I know when I first flashed it to my DHD I had to go to install update.zip to get to the Recovery menu them from there i was able to flash the custom rom
I have a Wildfire as above.
I was given it with 2.2.1 installed and have boot unlocked thru the HTC Dev website. The bootloader shows that the handset is currently S-on.
Can I root from here to install a custom ROM? And if so, how?
all you need its here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 ...you will need to downgrade your HBoot first, but everything its explain in the link, its not very difficult but it takes a while and its a bit scary first time haha.
You can follow that guide posted above, or a far simpler method would be to flash a Custom Recovery (Via Fastboot) and then flash the ROM of your choice.
Custom Recovery flashing steps can be found here:

Once you have Clockworkmod installed, the instructions to install a Custom ROM can be found here:

Good Luck
CWM is now installed and backup complete.
Will be installing ROM soon. Thank you all for your help!!
hi Fedrat,
I have followed 3xeno' instructions and successfuly installed CWM, however I do not see CWM as an app or an option anywhere when I reboot.
It doesn't solve my S-ON problem and doesn't root my phone still showing HBOOT 1.02.0000 and cannot move to flashing a new rom until that gets out of the way.
What did I miss? and did you successfully install a new ROM?
Thanks
Cwm is an advanced recovery, it's written to the recovery partition which is hidden so the average Joe cannot mess with it.
Press volume down + power to get into hboot when the phone is off, then choose recovery and it will take you there.
Unlocking the bootloader doesn't give root access but it does set you up for it, most roms come pre rooted so once you get into Cwm first backup your stock rom then wipe cache, data, dalvik cache and flash your new rom from the install zip from sd menu.
